Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AbFabT · 07/04/2010 16:36

Ha ha, Elsa (or should that be: the Elsa!?), I do know what you mean, but it's more the lack of correct grammar that bugs me, more than the impersonal nature of it, I think! However, I think I've probably done it myself, seems a lot like it's the done thing, much like here referring to my husband as 'DH' - I have to stop myself referring to him as DH in RL now!

Great news, shieldbug! Woo hoo.

KSal · 07/04/2010 17:11

Hi, just back. All good at scan, baby a bit awkward about getting in position for the NT measurement, which was fine in the end. Got blood test tomorrow so won't receive risk result until that is done and analysed.

huge relief though and glad to hear yours went well too sheildbug

I had to leg it out of the scan room to get to the toilet... crikey i was bursting and the sonographer was pressing quite hard to get baby in position! Got some good pics tho.

AbFabT · 07/04/2010 17:30

Congratulations, Ksal. Good luck with the bloods.

Ivytheterrible · 07/04/2010 17:42

Abother one just back from the scan! I have a 13 week baby with heartbeat so all good. Also very hard to get NT measurement due to positioning and they also said I had a retroverted uterus which was making it difficult to get baby in the right position.

NT measurement was 1.2 - Is this OK? Also dated at about 5 days behind what dates had said but this fits in with what I thought in terms of a late ovulation in Jan.

Feels like a great weight off my mind!

Good luck to those going in the next couple of weeks.

AbFabT · 07/04/2010 18:04

Good news, Ivy.
I can't advise on measurements, am sure someone will be along soon who knows better.

abigailsparty · 07/04/2010 20:32

Congratulations Ivy, Hermya, Shieldbug, KSal and all other recent happy scanners, I've not been on for a while and my pregnancy brain is having trouble remembering everyone!

So sad to hear about Norfolk too, if you're checking in I hope you and DH make speedy recoveries and are back on one of these threads very soon.

Tiny I have been keeping my fingers crossed for you, sending you lots of positive thoughts.

Ivy 1.2mm is a great measurement, I think anything under 3mm is considered low risk.

MummyLovesSadie So sorry to read about your results, have you made a decision yet? I had a CVS with DD, if you need any info please just ask. FWIW, I had already made the decision to have another one this time if I wasn't happy with my results. I would just need to know, we hadn't made up our minds at all about what we'd do if it was positive but felt we needed to know the facts in order to make informed decisions and plans for the future. Although I had my nuchal done this time on the NHS, last time we had to go private as it wasn't offered in this area on the NHS. I did say to DH that if I wasn't happy with the results I would go back to the same consultant for another CVS, he was amazing and had very low miscarriage rates. It's maybe worth looking in to if this is the route you choose. Good luck and big hugs, it's a tough one.

I hope everyone else is well and all sickness is slowly ebbing away. On the whole I feel 100% better than a few weeks ago but I still have the odd moment

I've also been very naughty and eaten rather a lot of things on the 'banned' list, at the weekend I had a runny poached egg, 2 glasses of wine (at different times!) some stilton and some peanuts. I wouldn't have dreamed of doing this first time round, I feel awful as I'm treating this one differently! Has anyone else been a bit slack in this area or is just me??

MummyLovesSadie · 07/04/2010 20:58

Congrats everyone on your great scans!

Yes I do have a bit of progress actually, I spoke to a lovely lady in the lab where they tested my blood & she suggested that I have another test next week - the quadruple test. This only involves them taking some blood so at least I should know more one way or the other by next Friday.

AbigailsParty I'm interested to hear that you had a cvs & would consider having another one. I'm like you in that I just have to know so that I can make a decision knowing all the facts. I can't bear the thought of the next six months with this big shadow of doubt hanging over me. I think even if my odds went up to 1 on 200 I'd be happy with that. Yay for eating & drinking naughty things! I did that all the time when I was pregnant with dd (who is perfectly healthy), it's only this time around that I've turned into a super-paranoid-pregnant-person!

Ivy a nuchal measurement of 1.2mm is absolutely perfect. Mine measures good too at 1.3mm - oh God please let my baby be ok.

floozietoozie · 07/04/2010 21:07

Abigailsparty I was eyeing up the brie baguette with longing this afternoon...Ooh runny eggs, that's what I missed most last time round.

Lilmiss Hermya Shieldbug KSal and Ivy - great news on the good scans. Hope I didn't miss anyone.

Tiny, sorry you are still having to wait to find out more. Good luck in Liverpool tomorrow.

Elsa if you think 'baby' is annoying, wait until you have 'baby' and you become 'mum'. You will have no other identity to medical staff after that! When DS was in special care, it took me ages to not want to turn around and look over my shoulder, wondering who they were addressing as mum.

Seashells and Tiredfeet, DP's brother and partner live on Southampton Water and have a motor boat so I know that area a bit (have never gone on it, he's a mental driver on land, wouldn't trust him with my life or stomach on sea!).

VMumToBe · 07/04/2010 21:29

Big hugs and thoughts out to Mummyloves and congrats to seashells and all the great test results.

We are still waiting and (I am) worrying. We won't hear anything till next Mon if it's bad news and the Monday after if aok. They won't tell us anything down the phone outside of those times. I can't bear it!

Just watching masterchef and wanting everything they are cooking. Too bad we can't have most of it! x

VMumToBe · 07/04/2010 21:30

ps everything crossed for you tiny too - I must read all the threads propserly before replying!

Hermya321 · 07/04/2010 21:30

Elsa If I'm honest I've never really thought about it, I suppose being new to all of this I just take it as it comes.

Tiny Good luck in Liverpool tomorrow.

Abigailsparty I've been eating brie, I didn't even realise it was banned. I've also given in to my craving for ice cold coronas as well. I figure one or two won't exactly do that much damage.

MLS Thats great news that they're going to do your bloods as well, I hope it all turns out in your favour.

Abfab I thought I was the only one who had to stop themselves doing that .

AbFabT · 07/04/2010 21:59

MLS, good luck with the extra tests then.
VMum, hope things are all ok for you too.

I'm not taking any risks with this child (other than walking up and down the stairs and crossing the road, etc!), but then I've never drunk, so that's a very easy one (also a bonus in the early weeks as my not drinking is normal to everyone!), and I don't eat meat or dairy, so don't have to contend with soft cheese or runny eggs or pâté anyway. I've never been a coffee drinker (the smell makes me want to gag), so the caffeine thing is easy too.

Cutting down on the smack though.

MummyWilliams · 07/04/2010 22:17

LOL! LOL! LOL! AbFab

Nymphadora · 08/04/2010 01:58

Congrats hermya ivy & sheildbug on the good scans.

Today has been the hottest day in NYC in April since 1920 or summat like that! 82 degrees at half 6 according to the taxi.
We have been hiding in museums all day. Just had the best Turkish meal for tea though, just wish we could find one onthe UK.

FingonTheValiant · 08/04/2010 09:30

Hello everyone, I really must stop going away, I miss so much!

Firstly, so sorry to hear your news Norfolk, but I'm so pleased that your dh is recovering.

Tinywelsh I have my fingers crossed for you, good luck today!

MLS sorry to hear that your numbers are worrying, but the measurement is really good

VMum here's hoping you don't hear anything for quite a while.

Congratulations to everyone who has had good scans shieldbug, ivy, hermya and ksal (sorry if I've missed anyone) fab news for all of you

Had my scan on the 1st, the baby is already a troublemaker and refused to turn over, even when poked (dh got very worried that the baby would be hurt by that lol). That did at least mean that I got to spend quite a long time looking at him though He kicked lots, and just when we'd given up he rolled over, thank goodness. The NT was 1.7, I almost had a heart attack, I thought it was so high. I was convinced baby must have terrible odds. After 1 hour of waiting for bloods I got called in and told in a full-of-doom monotone that my calculated risk was... 1 in 19350. I actually laughed, and then the dr asked if I had any concerns about that lol I was practically crying with relief. Although when I got home and told my mother (along with the level for concern so she'd have an idea) she said "oh dear, what are you going to do about it?) I honestly thought I 'd gone mad and completely misunderstood them completely and actually had terrible odds. Anyway, all resolved now and we're very happy

I can't wait to find out the sex, I didn't want to, but now I'm desperate to know!

I haven't signed up for the NCT classes. They don't have any I can do except for a set that end 1 week before my due date, they're during the day so dh won't be able to come with me, and I have to be £290 for the pleasure. Dh earns slightly too much to get a reduction, but it's a lot more than we can afford. I might join afterwards and go to coffee morning etc and maybe do something silly like baby swimming to try to make friends.

Nymph I'm very jealous of your holiday all round, but I'm particularly jealous of your dd2. I would still love to have an American Girl doll, especially one of those lovely historical ones If the baby turns out to be a girl I'm going to try to cultivate a serious doll habit lol.

Oh, and I'm trying to do some research on a good hypnobirth book, so if anyone knows one I'd love to know which it is.

Sorry for the long post!

ps are we still allowed mini eggs post-easter?

KSal · 08/04/2010 10:22

If you're not doing NCT, yor local health authority might run a group for first time mums. I found out about that from my health visitor after DD was born.

can recommend swimming (but locally we had to wait until they'd had all their jabs, so about 16 weeks... think it varies depending on the pool). Another thing you can do, from about 6 weeks, is baby massage. Its a lovely bonding experience and can also be great for babies with colic/digestive probs.

I will stop banging on... now i have seen the baby i am really starting to get excited (and nervous.... and emtional)

great news that you are getting another blood test MLS

KSal · 08/04/2010 10:23

oh an i don't know about mini eggs, but i haved just snaffled a lindor egg.

Elsa123 · 08/04/2010 11:19

Hi all. Just had my first midwife appointment- marathon form filling session. No scan date as the hospital has had someone on leave and everything has ground to a halt- so she was pleased I'd got myself a private scan. Because this booking in appointment is relatively late, its only 2 or 3 weeks until I see her again.

LOL about being called mum! I'm quite old fashioned and don't like being called by my first name by strangers unless I've invited them to do so, so being called mum is even worse!! Yes I know I'm a fusspot. Congrats on the scan sheildbug- your baby was probably fast asleep!

Abigail- I'm being fairly relaxed about drinking tea and not getting het up about it. I was also very pleased to see on the FSA website that smoked salmon and sushi is allowed as the smoking kills parasites and for sushi, restaurants have to freeze the fish before working on it to kill parasites, so thats ok too.

I have been really fancying the idea of any alcoholic drink that is ice cold like pimms or a really crisp white wine. I haven't indulged (yet).

AbFabT- at the smack!!

shieldbug · 08/04/2010 11:56

hooray! that's lots of good scan results now. Good luck to those of you who are still waiting for a scan or waiting for other results. I've been busy showing off the pictures of sproglet at uni- they aren't that clear, but they are at least obviously of a baby. Hmmm...about time I found some more victims happy people to show sproglet to.

Re eating habits, I'm afraid I've been super-paranoid just as some of you, but some things have been really hard, like the fried egg dh made me on Monday(!)...I really miss yummy runny yolks. PS sorry for the dreadful pun!

FingonTheValiant · 08/04/2010 12:26

KSal I'd forgotten baby massage, I'll add that to my list of indulgent pfb things to do. I think the hospital runs a class, but i havent signed up yet, I really ought to in case it fills up!

Glad your appointment well Elsa, I was really disappointed that my first one was just paperwork, I wanted exciting baby stuff to happen.

shieldbug I have also been flashing my photo to all and sundry. The day of the scan we texted a version of it to loads of dh's friends in France, who either ignored us or sent us back really sarcastic messages because they thought it was an April Fool (what a weird one to choose if it was). I was so upset that not one of them congratulated us that I was crying some of them still dont know it's real and now that we're in his hometown for a week I look forward to rubbing in how miserable they made a pregnant lady [evil emoticon]

France has proved to be a nightmare for avoiding certain food. Dh's grandad insisted on trying to force feed me alcohol until after about the third day when there was a bit of a barney, as I was getting really hacked off and he thought I was being rude by refusing his hospitality , and it transpired that he actually had no idea that pregnant women were not meant to drink alcohol! He has 4 great-grandchildren and his son-in-law is an obstetrician so I dont know how it passed him by.

I've had a few glasses of fizz (one on any given occasion) as everyone wants to celebrate, and it's so hard to resist the foie gras and unpasteurised cheese - this is my new dinner table face

FingonTheValiant · 08/04/2010 12:27

Should have previewed:

Glad your appointment went well Elsa

Or should that be Ms 123?

DillyDora · 08/04/2010 13:28

HI All

Abigails you made me laugh about naughty foods - had a runny boiled egg this morning - guilty pleasures!

AbFab PMSL at the smack joke!
Thanks to those who are fessing up to the odd alcoholic drink - I feel normal at last! Have only had 1 drink a week (small glass of wine or o so very small beer)and not even every blummen week but didn't dare confess!

So, had my scan this morning. Nuchal fold of 1.9mm, so that's still under 3 and I'll take those odds. Have had the blood test and will only get a call if the risk is high otherwise the risk just gets filed cos it's normal. Fingon your story made me laugh in the end - glad it turned out well! Little Bean-o was lovely though I think she was having a doze and we woke her up, got some good pix but it all took forever and my bladder will never be the same again! She did a somersault at one point and I felt it! Lovely! Finally feeling relieved, but will feel better if those bloods could just come back with a low (for my age) risk.

xxx

Elsa123 · 08/04/2010 13:46

Well done Dillydora! Its great to see isn't it?! My baby was asleep when we first looked, and woke up later and the sonographer was cursing that she should have taken the measurements when he/she was in slumber!

Fingon- I wonder what the French rules are on food in pregnancy? Even though it was a bit of a nightmare for you at times, I'm really jealous you've been in France- I'd love some time away right now. Where abouts in France were you?

LOL at Ms123!!

Elsa123 · 08/04/2010 13:49

ooh- should have asked the mw really, but what week is the start of the 2nd trimester? I googled it and the answers vary between week 13 and week 14. Anyone more knowledgable than me?

tinywelsh · 08/04/2010 14:03

I'm glad that most of us have had great scans so far

I saw a very detailed scan of little one today (amost made up for the sodding huge needle in my stomach) I saw the face, fingers, spine and heart going, finally saw litlle bean move his arms as well.

Professor (moving up each time ) says he wouldn't call baby's fluid a cystic hygroma as it is all round bean and not just around neck but I couldn't see how it makes much difference.

Now got to wait til tues (my f*in birthday! ) until I get the first results and next appointment is 4 weeks time.

Fingers crossed for you VMumToBe hope you get a good result.
