Cosmosis · 04/03/2010 21:10

I know I'm kind of late to the party, but please can I come and play?

Expecting #1 on 22nd Agust.

cakeywakey · 04/03/2010 21:13

My DD wears a lot of purple, burgundy, red and brown at the moment Chulita (and I love her in a very cute black wool dress and polo combo I ordered from Verbaudet) but her favourite item is one of her Batman tshirts so that she can look like Daddy at the weekends

Chulita · 04/03/2010 21:29

Ooh! I love purple and burgandy on DD too - trouble is MIL got her this truly hideous outfit, the top is burgandy and reasonable but the leggings are horrendous. She asks about it too when she comes round (I have a Batman tshirt)
It's never too last cosmosis, welcome to the group!

CazEM · 04/03/2010 21:55

Welcome cosmosis

Oh and DH has calmed down from his big girls strop now! Harmony has resumed! lol

Anyone else experiencing itchy nipples?! Driving me nuts tonight!!!!

Nikalah · 04/03/2010 22:04

Hi Cosmosis & welcome!

After doing some research seems I did just get a stroppy witch of a receptionist! No one seems to have heard of such a short window for the 20 wk scan!

Dibbydab I LOVE the matching outfit.... not available online anymore... argh! Will be heading to my nearest mothercare tomorrow..... must be the hormones!!

cakeywakey · 04/03/2010 22:10

Couldn't the hideous leggings have an 'accident' Chulita, like being caught in the buckles of the car seat and ripping? Then you'll just have the nice top to match with something else instead.

ElusiveMoose · 04/03/2010 22:22

Hi everyone! Gosh, what a lot to catch up on in two days!! I have read the thread, but I'm on my way to bed after a series of late nights, so I'm afraid I won't be hanging around long.

Having a good week, actually. After two days of feeling really rough, my cold suddenly disappeared yesterday. And, contrary to all expectations, my residents' association meeting went brilliantly last night - they voted to approve our loft conversion without a single objection . All we need now is to get the planning permission (oh, and somehow find about 40 grand ).

Totally agree on the gender clothing stuff. It's definitely easier to buy neutrals for a boy, and I always try to avoid dressing DS in too much blue - luckily he suits greens and browns much better. Sadly, though, it's almost always the case that the more tasteful/neutral the clothes, the more expensive they are. If you can afford to do all your shopping in JoJo and Gap, you're laughing! My one recommendation is H&M, actually. They do have a lot of chavvy crap in there, but they also do a really good line in no-logo basics - tops and babygros in nice primary colours or simple patterns - particularly for younger babies. And they're pretty cheap.

Aussieng · 04/03/2010 22:29

Evening all - Hi Cosmosis & Welcome to the Aug thread - I have not popped into the BESH thread for a while - how is everyone>

DH is also managing to irritate the hell out of me tonight! We are in the (long drawn out) process of re-doing our ensuite. He is using my bathroom at the moment which now has an air of blokey "ick" about it. So the deal is he can "man-up" the en-suite so long as I get my girlie bathroom back soon. So.... he has decided that he want to put in a urinal [hmmm]. AIBU> Is this a really great hygenic idea or is it as gross as I think it is (and if the latter can you help me with some reasoned arguments as to why it is a really bad idea - other than "it's MY house" which when he moved in here I swore I would never say).

Also, I had a package delivered today but since I was at work the delivery driver left it with next door. The package included a cheapie changing mat from Matalan and a couple of cheapie bits for my holiday next week (bring it on). Anyway the cheapie changing mat is just wrapped in clear plastic with a huge sticker on it saying £7. So when I pop round to collect it the neighbours say "oh yes we have some packages but I don't think this one is for you...." Now call me a snob but that was not exactly the way I had hoped to announce to the neighbours that I am pregnant

So I get the packages home and DH tells me off for spending money on the baby already!!!! . So far I have purchased for this baby, a pack of 3 white vests, a pack of 3 white baby-grows all from Asda (so exactly baby prada), the changing mat and 3 pairs of scratch mits (£1). I say that I have been remarkably restrained (mainly waiting to see what variety we are getting before I start spending) but he says I should wait until things are on "special". Special!!!! How much more "special" than £1 does he think these things are going to get!!!!

So we popped to Asda tonight - amazingly he let me buy 2 packs of the newborn disposable nappies for £1 without flinching (I want to use reusables but figured some disposables for those early weeks would be useful).

DH is not usually tight so I'm not sure what is going on.

Anyway - sorry for ranting again. I'm going to call up my pensions people tomorrow and whinge about that whole situation but I will try not to take it out on you lovely ladies again.

So glad the scans and MW appointments went well today.

girlsyearapart · 05/03/2010 08:25

morning all.
So glad it has decided not to rain this week- was getting very sick of the constant staring out at miserable weather..

Having kitchen decorated atm so everything is a bit of a mess. Got the family over for roast on Sunday 6 adults and 5 kids so hope it will be more organised by then.

With two girls we have fully embraced the pink.. It will be a bit strange having any blue if it's a boy..

We had some lovely stuff from Next and Gap which was more unisex.

Anyway off to playgroup this morning then waiting in for my online asda shop. Going to my gym classes saturday morning- don't know how long till the next ones as Mum away for 5 weeks after that..

Rubena · 05/03/2010 08:40

I haven't caught up much but did skim through as it's been ages.
A urinal Aussie??????? Is he having a laugh?? Sorry but I'm just picturing those gross stainless steel ones they have in schools - and even if it's a nicer one omg what's the difference to using a toilet when it's in your own house!! It's hardly necessary is it? Sorry to be so opinionated but I can't believe he's serious!! Yuk.

My scans on the 19th can't wait to find out the sex but we're going to try and keep it a secret

Some tips I can think of for what to buy / not to buy if it's your first.... Don't buy many fancy clothes (haard not to I know) ie one or 2 for special occasions but otherwise stay right away from buttons etc or anything that is fussy to get on and off or wash. Buy loads of babygro's etc and keep the tags on them as they'll grow so fast you won't use some of them! Oh and I found all the newborn stuff even really quite big - I had a 7'12 (3.5kg) baby so average I guess and he was swimming in the 0mnth stuff so bought some "tiny baby" vests and babygrows and they fit perfectly

marzipananimal · 05/03/2010 08:59

aussie I'm with Rubena on the urinal! Tell him he's allowed to leave the toilet seat up!
I would have thought as well that a urinal won't help the value of your house - whoever buys it from you whenever you eventually move is unlikely to want one

ElusiveMoose · 05/03/2010 09:16

Aussieng, I'm afraid I feel slightly differently to the others so far. I kind of think that if you have your own bathroom to decorate as you please ( by the way!), then he should be able to have what he wants in his. And I can sort of see that if you got a really fancy urinal it might have a bit of urban industrial cool.... I see what marzipananimal means about house value, but at least your house wouldn't blend in with all the others - no prospective buyer would forget about the one with the urinal .

With regard to shopping for the baby, your DH is clearly being unreasonable. Is it possible that his attitude is hiding any (understandable) anxiety about a) being a father or b) something happening to you/the baby, and not wanting to jinx it? Sorry for the cod psychology - it's just a thought.

Rubena · 05/03/2010 09:24

On a different note though, keeping in mind that I'm not up with the style of urinals these days, do the fancy ones have lids of any description? otherwise he'll have to remember to keep the bathroom door shut as my ds will not leave the toilet alone at the moment! he has discovered how to lift the lid and then tries to play with the toilet water - yuk. You just don't want your LO coming out of the bathroom with one of those cleaning block things that sit in them in his mouth!!
My dh is pretty useless at remembering to shut doors / baby gates etc so maybe you could get a self closer put on the bathroom door like I've had to get him to do with our front door here! Bloody men!

CherryPie3 · 05/03/2010 09:36

Hiya peeps, and welcome cosmosis

I'm afraid I haven't remembered a lot of what I have read (again....) but here goes...

Aussie A URINAL??????? It's YOUR house and urinals are ugly grotesque smelly boy things. Yuk! I agreee with Marzi* Promise him he's allowed to leave the seat up

H&M BABY - Whoever said this I totally agree - they have some lovely simple things in for baby, and are good that they don't go pink pink pink or blue blue blue. When we had ds we got some gorgeous vintage Mickey Mouse sleepsuits and some green dungarees, stripey vests etc - didn't buy any blue at all - the relatives didthat for us Same with dd, (hadn't discovered H&M with her) we bought mint green and lemon yello for her, along with some pretty floral pieces. The family however had other ideas and brought a million and one pink things for us Was grateful in the end tho as she really suited pink, and it went lovely with the minty green

Need to add as well, H&M do fab maternity stuff, especially summer stuff I got some superb things from there when pregnant with ds (july baby) and they nearly always have sale rail too.

OP posts:
Aussieng · 05/03/2010 11:14

LOL at the urinal responses. Rubena - don't worry about being opinionated my reaction last night was pretty much like yours and Cherry's "ugly, smelly, boy" comments. He said he would listen to me when I had something rational to say So I tried to calm down and made the point about women generally having the last word on house purchasing decisions and I didn't think a urinal would go down very well with women (Rubena - I'm not sure I want my house to be remembered for all the wrong reasons, thanks!!) but he said that we could just buy extra wall tiles and take it out when we come to selling. I said it would make the en-suite cluttered and he already wants to put a laundry chute in there , the extra plumbing is unreasonable additional cost but basically it still comes down to "ugly smelly boy stuff". I dunno - I think it is just that they are so functional. He pointed out that when idoor toilets were first considered people had similar reactions. I hate rational. Why is my footstamping instinctive response less valid? (Rhetoric)

You can get urinals with lids. He is fixated on the "more hygenic" aspect (but then he never troubles himself to clean the toilet on that score) but when I read some of your comments out to him this morning he took it all with good humour so hopefully that is an end to it (except I think the toilet seat will be left up now)!. He also confessed that given my PG related lack of libido the effects of his frustration are causing his aim to be slightly off when he goes to the loo at the moment (with it being so low down and all) . I suggested that if he did not want the frustration to become a permanent fixture, he might want to rethink the urinal idea!

Elusive he is usually a PMA person, look on the brght side, expect the best etc etc and has never worried about the LO even when I have had the odd moment of panic. We will see if he chills out after the 20 week scan next week.

Have a good Friday everyone - it is beautiful here in sunny Notts.

ElusiveMoose · 05/03/2010 12:31

Aussie, it was me who said your house would be remembered (wanted to let Rubena off the hook ). And I actually meant it as a good thing. I just think there are so many metaphorically 'beige' houses around these days, that it's good to have some more striking features. In our house in London, I agreed to let DH make a unilateral choice about the decoration of the study, as he's actually much more creative than me. Anyway, he decided to paint the walls in a kind of burnt orange/umber colour, with all the woodwork and the radiator in a really bold blue. I was , but in the end it looked stunning. And when people came round, it was the only room they ever complimented (the rest were in tasteful 'magnolia'). And, when we came to sell the house, it was a real talking point (and we had loads of offers). When we come to have the loft done, I think I'll let him choose the colour scheme again .

thecoffeelady · 05/03/2010 20:35

evening ladies.
had my ante natal visit yesterday I am fine, DC2 is all good too. The consultant really p**sed me off though, because I had a GTT with my last pregnancy I have to have one this time round too, because I am having a GTT test I have to have a 34 week scan, I also have to see the consultant at 38 & 40 weeks oh and because of an underlying medical condition (which I was born with) I have to see the anaesthetist incase I need an epidural. I had an epidural with DD and nothing has changed so it just seems like a huge waste of NHS time and money . I know it is all for the good of DC2 but it is also a major pain in the back side.

Apologies for whining

CherryPie3 · 06/03/2010 09:32

morning all, I havent been on in over a week so have lots to catch up on! How is everyone today?
cherrypie my husband also finally felt baby move on thursday evening he was really happy
Im full up with a cold at the moment and wish it would hurry up and go
Counting down the days for my scan, we cant decide if we are going to find out the sex both sons want a girl, I would like a surprise and wait to find out but then again its nice to know. Think I will decide on the day.

pamplem0usse · 06/03/2010 10:40

coffeelady that's properly rubbish! Can't you refuse? They're trying to get me to have a GTT because I'm very marginally over the weight cut-off line (by 1lb) but they got very confused with my dates and so failled to take account of the fact that it was my weight at 13 and a bit weeks!
Anyway after it requiring five attempts and three different staff to take my blood last time I'm not submitting myself to that again. Besides BMI isn't that accurate if you're heavily muscled.

On a positive note I just got my combined screening result (which really confused me as I was told they would only write if there was a problem - letter panicked me slightly!!!) and my risk for age is 1:1300 and for my results is 1:100,000 so think I can relax about that one!

Congrats to cherrypie and kcoffin on having movements that their husbands' can feel. I'm very jealous I haven't even felt anything myself yet! Well I might have, or it might have been wind!

I've still not felt the baby move - very jealous of those of you that have! Still it is my first though so maybe it's not unusual to have felt nothing yet? My mum reckons she never felt any of her babies more til at least 25 weeks.

Chulita · 06/03/2010 12:31

missus I didn't feel DD for a looooong time but with this one I felt it very early on. I'm 20 wks now and it definitely pokes me a lot esp when I'm sitting down!
DD finally has shaken off the fever that been dogging her for 4 days, yesterday it was up at 104.9 Thankfully today she's just very sad and whingey but not feverish so hopefully she'll be all fine by Wednesday so DH can come to the scan with me (I wouldn't leave her at my friend's if she was ill)
In other news, my best friend told me yesterday that she's pregnant I'm soooo excited for her, she lives in California though so not much chance of a quick visit when it gets here but it's so cool that she's having a baby!! (sorry, I'm just uber excited for her!)
Right, I'm off to make lentil soup before the footie starts, I'm feeling a bit off today and just want to veg!
