Morning girls!

I had my first crisis of confidence watching One Born Every Minute last night. I actually had a full on wobble about giving birth - it looks really scary whichever way you do it, or whichever way it happens in the end (C-Sec or Natural). I don't do pain very well at the best of times and for some reason last night I had the full on realisation that this will be the worst physical pain I will ever experience in my life!!

Come on ladies on #2 plus, tell me that it isn't that bad otherwise you would never have done it again!!!!

Anyway, I'm sure I'll get over it again, every other week I've been watching it I have been thinking how wonderful and miraculous it is that women are able to do that, don't know why I had the wobble this week! Maybe I'm more hormonal and emotional this week!!

Glad that we've reached half way through the week again! Hooray for Wednesday! Busy day today - Ive got an annual review meeting for one of my pupils this morning (combined education and health meeting; so Dr's, physio, nurses, OT etc etc involved too), and then after school I have parents evening!

Hope everyone else is planning a lovely day! x x

Rubena · 17/03/2010 07:19

Hello, just wanted to say thanks to Blueberries and Cherry as I have just been over to that thread of the title haters, and I brought my girls from Post natal Dec 08 with me! I think we have chased them away My group from Dec 08 is still going strong - 2 years now, and they are much the same as you all here which is why I am trying hard to keep up here too! Anyway, will catch up and come back

girlsyearapart · 17/03/2010 07:41

morning officially half way through today wooo hooo!!

caz no it's not as bad as you think- you're pretty much in an altered reality during the 'bad' bits so easy to forget about really. Well I was pg with dd2 when dd1 was 3 months (yes it was planned) so it can't be that bad can it??

I was watching OBEM when dd1 came downstairs this morning- cue lots of questions 'Mummy why is that lady crying?' 'Mummy that lady has taken off her knickers- why Mummy?' etc etc... think I need to be a bit more careful what I watch

rubena I'm totally clueless as to what has been going on re people talking about this thread?? someone pleeeease enlighten me!

jennycomelately · 17/03/2010 07:50

It's less scary and painful if you're in an environment you're comfortable in , Caz [homebirth militant emoticon] . But in my experience it does always hurt. But it's manageable pain, my labours have always been like period pains that just get progressively worse, but with breaks in between. Relaxation is the key IME, so maybe look at hypnobirthing?

pamplem0usse · 17/03/2010 08:09

Morning all!

It's my third wedding anniversary today! Yay! Hubby is away but has already called. A definite improvement on our first wedding anniversary. I had a silly Charlie and Lola calendar with stickers, and had put a heart shape on 17th March. Cue husband 'why have you put a heart shaped sticker on St. Patricks Day?'
Me 'Think about it'
Husband 'Is it because you're half irish?'
!!!!

Bubba I'm a bit scared my midwife is going to comment on the weight i've put on, although I don't have a discernible bump (just look chubby!!!)......

Rubena · 17/03/2010 09:02

Girls - someone started a thread complaining about the titles of the Ante-natal / Post-Natal threads being offensive to them!! Hilarious!

Caz- can't comment on the natural - but my section was absolutely fine - nothing to worry about - truly.

Happy anniversay Pample!

Good luck on the scans all - I also have one on Friday so think there's 3 of us? Nichynoo? Yummy?

LilyPad72 · 17/03/2010 09:04

Hello. I don't post very often, but read your stuff almost daily and find it very encouraging - certainly not clique-ish at all! Don't know what they are talking about.

Can't remember if I'm on the list or not, so will introduce myself: I'm 37, and this is a long awaited #1 for me. Due 29th August. Don't know which team yet - due to find out in April.

Can I ask a question? Was wandering around town yesterday looking for maternity clothes just to get an idea - having not done this before and finding a large proportion of my wardrobe won't do up any more... - and couldn't find ANY! Where can you go on the high street to have a look at stuff and get ideas? The woman in M&S who I asked looked at me like I'd asked for trousers with 3 legs or something 'Oh, we don't sell that here' What do you mean you don't - you're M&S!

Hope you can share the benefits of your knowledge with me, ladies.

bouncingblueberries · 17/03/2010 09:06

cazzybabs have a manly punch on the shoulder [ooof] we can see your posts, so don't worry.

missus people get really funny about names so dh and I have decided not to reveal any of our favourites this time round. So when baby is born and introduced as Myrtle Wallflower Fanny or Richard Lionheart Dickie people will just have to accept it (not that there's anything wrong with those names of course [ducks to avoid pillows and inflatables still flying around from last night])

CazEm it is a pain like no other pain you've ever experienced. BUT it doesn't last forever and is over and forgotten the moment you hold your gorgeous baby in your arms for the first time. jenny is right though, relaxation is the key, along with trusting your body to do what it needs to do. I can't recommend antenatal yoga highly enough. It really teaches you to listen to what your body is telling you and trust your instincts. Also, I found that watching as many birth videos and reading as many birth stories as possible made sure I knew what could happen - so OBEM is brilliant for showing you how bloody hard it is to push a baby out when you're lying flat on your back

Happy anniversary pample are you going to do anything special?

Well, I've got a stinking cold today and really don't want to be at work. Plus could really have done with a seat on the train and every bugger pretended to be asleep as soon as they saw me i know I should just ask for a seat if I'm that desperate, but I don't want to have to ask! I want to be offered! Grrrrr.

Choccie biscuit anyone? [passes round plate and hopes no-one thinks it's too early]

bouncingblueberries · 17/03/2010 09:10

Welcome LilyPad have you tried Next or H&M? Pumpkin Patch also have some nice maternity. I'm lucky I work on Regent Street in London, so I'm a regular at the Mamas&Papas store

Blooming Marvellous have some lovely dresses though and there are some stores, but I tend to just order online. Or you can always try Mothercare.

HTH

LilyPad72 · 17/03/2010 09:22

Blueberries - thanks - am going past a Next out-of-town today, so will give it a go - would never have thought of them. And will look out for the others.

Thanks!

Chulita · 17/03/2010 09:25

Hello lilypad, I get my stuff off ebay cos it's so much cheaper and is never very worn. Next is brilliant for trousers but I find the tops get too short by the end. Dorothy Perkins/TopShop/New Look have good tops, H&M have a lot of stuff. (Most Next stores don't have maternity in stock so you have to buy online)
cazEm, it is very painful and for several months I dreaded getting pregnant again but having a little one is so lovely and the pain gets a bit lost in the sleepless fuzz of the first few weeks! It's not pain you can't cope with and there are lots of ways to manage pain, the MWs are there to help us get through it!

soontobefatnat · 17/03/2010 09:29

Morning all! Happy St Patricks Day! (or wedding anniversary pample- my DH struggles with such things too!) I had an explosively horrible nosebleed this morning, which was lovely. Never really had one before in my life. Quite disconcerting, but I gather normal? (Sorry if TMI/people still having brekkie). Now feel well paranoid it'll happen at work. Pregnancy = weird.

Oh, and I found OBEM a little scary last night too!

Chulita · 17/03/2010 09:39

soontobefatnat, that sounds horrible, fingers crossed you don't get another one!
I'm trying to summon the energy to take DD into town and find a dentist. I haven't been for years and I've got toothache

CherryPie3 · 17/03/2010 09:41

Morning Girls It's my dd's 5th birthday today, this time 5 yrs ago she was 5 and a half hours old

Happy Anniversary pample, was your dh serious on your first anniversary

LilyPad Welcome to thread!! Have added you to the list xx

caz It really isn't so bad - honestly!! Watching on tv even makes me wince because it's someone else's experience. I rather enjoyed my labours with dd and ds, more so with ds as I was more awake and energised (dd was born 03:24, ds was born 13:54). With dd I slept between contractions, waking to push then falling asleep again. With ds I had no pain relief until 8cms, and that was gas and air. I didn't have an epidural with either. You'll be fine, because you can find your own way to cope

Am loving the baby names talk - keep it coming

HI Caz, I am also a first timer and scared about the birth. I actually refused to watch OBEM as the first episode freaked me out so much. I am planning so go wityh the flow with the birth but will definitely request an epidural before the pain gets too bad. As someone told me, there are no prizes for enduring pain and it seems unneccessary to me.
I spoke to my midwife and she said the epidurals mostly tend to be mobile to a certain extent but the more top ups you have, the more immobile you become. I plan to let it wear off a bit towards the end so that i am aware of pushing. I know it will hurt like hell but not for long and i want to be in control when pushing.
I expect loads of mums will come on now and laugh at my naievity. (sp!) I am keeping an open mind and am prepared for nothing to happen as i have described it!

Dibbydab · 17/03/2010 13:53

Hello LilyPad and Carolondon and welcome - we should a waving emoticon or something.

That OBEM has a lot to answer for!!! Just as DH is kind of, very nearly, possibly coming round to the idea of a home birth that woman has to go and have a crash c-section with about 3 million doctors rushing around like something out of ER. I've been telling him for weeks that "things don't happen quickly in labour" and "the midwives can tell if things are starting to go wrong" and "we'll have plently of time to transfer to the hospital if we have to" but after watching last night's episode he's adamant that we have this one in hospital .

Fortunately I have another 19 weeks and 5 days of being a moany old whinge bag to work my womanly wiles on him and get him round to my way of thinking...

Chulita · 17/03/2010 16:29

Share HobNobs?? , I didn't know that was possible!

And don't get left behind, new thread come on over

Emster30 · 17/03/2010 20:37

Thanks cherrypie!

I've got maternity clothes from Dorothy Perkins, New Look and Mamas and Papas (only in the sale...). I also got a bundle from eBay which is good - makes me try stuff I wouldn't normally!

Must go now - I need to install something on the computer which requires me to shut everything down and it will take over an hour! Help! I'll have to watch telly or something (DH is out)!

Dibbydab · 18/03/2010 09:34

Emster, if you haven't see it, we're over here now honey - come on over

New August Thread

AnnaAndBump · 18/03/2010 22:11

Hi,

My name is Anna and I am new to the site. I am 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and he or she is due on the 4th August, which really can't come quick enough as I really can't wait to meet my little one!

I am booked in for my scan tomorrow and am really looking forward to seeing the baby, but am also a quite nervous, so all in all can't wait for the scan so fingers crossed I can be confident that everything is ok. I have only told close family so far as didnt want to tempt fate, but now am desperate to let the cat out of the bag, especially as it is becomming quite obvious now!

I am looking forward to swapping stories with you all over the next few months!

Anna

hildainstant · 19/03/2010 10:46

Hi folks,

I've not been around for a little while as I've had a horrid time of it.....I hope things get better and I can actually enjoy being pg! I think the last time I posted I had an ear infection (about 4 weeks ago) and got really nervous about this precious little baby inside of me. Anyhoo, I bought a doppler and that thing has given me so much reassurance! I've not had a scan since 8 weeks due to spotting so I've not seen the baby since it was a kidney bean!

So, since then I've been generally grotty, and unable to go to the loo (sorry if anyone's eating), then I went the other way on Friday. Was totally off my food (not like me, especially since pregnant) and not drinking much....long story short I was admitted to hospital on Monday to be put on a drip for 2 days!! Felt right as rain when I left, only for my amazing midwife to call to tell me I have a water infection and I need antibiotics but the hospital didn't tell me!!! MW let me listen to baby's heartbeat on Wednesday which reassured me so I know bump is fine, but I can't wait for my 20 week scan . I'm 16 +5 now so 4 weeks to wait .

Right, whinge over....it sounds as though you lot are all doing well, which is great to hear and I've got a couple of due date buddies now (29th August) which is great!!

Going to go now and try to catch up with the rest of the thread....I'll be here all weekend!

Take care and speak soon xxxx
