I loe it dibbydab

sayanything · 04/03/2010 14:31

Missus on chickenpox, have your immunity checked by a blood test, even if your parents tell you that you had the vaccine when you were little. I'm one of those who can't develop an immunity, despite being vaccinated twice , once when little and once a couple of years ago (when I found out I had no immunity and was convinced that my mother couldn't remember my vaccinations properly). Still not immune, so I have to be careful now I'm pg.

Alicetheinvisible · 04/03/2010 14:35

Nikalah i bet it was just some grumpy receptionist trying to be powerful. My 12wk scan (and nuchal) put me at 13+4 (which i had pretty much thought i would be, but Dr changed it) and there was no problem, despite the nuchal supposedly being done as near to 12+5 as humanly possible.

Dibbydab will be fine as long as you don't both wear it at the same time or you may look like Santas elves

Dibbydab · 04/03/2010 14:47

Don't give me ideas Alice, now where did I put those green pointy shoes...

'Tis about the most colourful thing I've bought so far - as we aren't finding out the make of this baby, the poor thing is going to be lost in a sea of beige and cream, even the pram is beige - it might be a case of spot the baby!

pamplem0usse · 04/03/2010 15:03

Dibbydab you made me giggle with the 'spot the baby'. We're not finding out either -- have you noticed that it seems to be much harder now than it was a few years ago to buy neutral baby stuff. Find this a bit sad, especially as if we have a girl I categorically refuse to cover her in various shades of pink from the start of her life. There'll be enough in the way of gender stereotyping later!

pamplem0usse · 04/03/2010 15:03

And crikey Jamie and Jools Oliver are expecting number 4 --- wonder how desperate he is for a boy this time?!

Dibbydab · 04/03/2010 15:19

Pamplemousee I nipped into our big Next yesterday - (3 floors), and there were no neutral clothes in the baby section - all blue or pink. Think online might have a better selection, but I like to pick things up and go "aw that's so diddy" and check it for scratchy labels/poppers in odd places that will be like a Krypton Factor challenge at 3am.

vix206 · 04/03/2010 15:20

Midwife appt went fine, she rang up the hospital to find out what on earth was going on with my 20 wk scan (remember they told me they had no availability and that I should ring at 20 weeks for a cancellation...). Turns out 2 of the sonographers are on maternity leave! She assured me that we'll get a scan but didn't mention anything about a 6 day window - I didn't realise it was that tight

Also must be feeling really tetchy today. I am on twitter a lot and I tweeted that I was really starting to feel the baby move now and itw as lovely. One of my male friends who recently had a son (2 years ago) replied that ' are you sure you don't have wind??? Because that's very early'. And its really peed me off! I'm obviously grumpy.... but I hate it how people say stuff like that. I replied and said, 'Yes I'm sure thanks Its quite early but midwife said its normal when you're slim - can be as early as 14 weeks.'

Got back from midwife to find a beautiful bouquet of flowers on my desk from one of our suppliers to say congratulations on the pregnancy so that was lovely

Hope everyone is having a nice day!

Dibbydab · 04/03/2010 15:21

pamplem0usse even

CherryPie3 · 04/03/2010 15:34

Awwww Dibby Thats cute - they have grey stripey ones as well in the Wakefield store.

Alicetheinvisible · 04/03/2010 15:45

If i didn't know what we were having i would go for red, yellow, blue, green, stripes, polka dots etc. And a million (cheap) white baby grows and vests. I bought my friend some baby socks in Boots as a little pg present and there were literally one pack of first size socks that weren't blue or pink.

Missus84 · 04/03/2010 15:50

Thanks everyone, I'll have a look into getting my immunity checked.

pamplem0usse · 04/03/2010 16:04

Dibby very sensible, I went into M&P to look at baby towels and found they were all really scratchy.... yuk. But I hadn't really thought about labels and stuff.... I saw the mothercare baby and mum top in a magazine a while ago, they're lovely.
vix yay for the flowers, and boo at the wind comment!
Alice even some of the white socks seem to have frills that count them out for a little boy! M&S either seem to have coloured (gender specific) ones or white with frills!

I almost got to the point of thinking we'd find out to make the shopping easier!! We won't though...

mrsZaC · 04/03/2010 16:53

hey ladies, sorry just got 5 min to spare to haven't checked up on what I've missed, just thought I'd pop on to tell you that scan went very well today, few probs with my allergies n' stuff to consider but baby is fine which is the main thing will fill you in properly tomorrow

Date pretty much the same @ 2nd September - yippeeee!

xxx

NichyNoo · 04/03/2010 17:03

pamplem0usse - made me laugh that you don't want gender stereotyping with pink or blue but think that the presence of frills automatically means that boys can't wear the socks!

I agree about the prevalence of pink/blue everywhere. Have been trying to convince DH that putting a boy in yellow or (God forbid) pink is not a bad thing. Didn't realise he had such strange ideas especially being married to a raving feminist like me

CherryPie3 · 04/03/2010 17:25

I intend to go proper boy/girl shopping shortly after baby arrives so in the meantime I have oceans and oceans of white babygros, vests, socks, scratch mittens, blankets, sheets.....

Fantstic news about the scan MrsZac

cakeywakey · 04/03/2010 17:26

I hate it when DD wears blue and people automatically assume that she's a boy. I really hate the fact that everything only seems to come in blue or pink - it's spreading from clothes, to shoes to nursery and bedroom bedding and furniture. Drives me mad! Especially as I fecking hate pink!

CazEM · 04/03/2010 17:33

cakey I'm the complete opposite to you! Such a pinky type girl myself I will enjoy the pink tidal wave if baby is a girl!

Though I will admit, baby blue is not my favourite colour - so will be trying hard to find a range of coloured clothes if baby is a boy!

Just over two weeks till we find out which way we're going! ooo so excited!!!

soontobefatnat · 04/03/2010 17:47

Second you Cakey - I fear the pink!

Found out that American Apparel do baby gros etc - in lots of solid plain colours like red, yellow, green, etc. Probably stupidly overpriced, like all their stuff, but I might invest in a couple to break free from the pink/blue opressors!

babyducky · 04/03/2010 17:53

Hi all,

good news mrszac

My appointment went well, ds got to hear the heartbeat, he looked a bit confused! ha

We have got loads of clothes from when ds was a baby still, we knew what we were having but he still had loads of bright coloured stuff which will be fine for a boy or girl, have got a few white vests scratch mits etc aswell so we are sorted.

Agree that next have a crap choice of unisex stuff, online is not much better, I do like next clothes though, I've got a pack of white vests & a 'i love mummy' sleepsuit from there.

babyducky · 04/03/2010 17:54

CazEm- me too, I love pink!!

pamplem0usse · 04/03/2010 18:12

Nichy so I didn't explain myself very well.... cakeywakey did much better! The issue with frills is that everyone starts assuming your child is a girl.... so I'd rather stick with gender neutral stuff. As a sports fanatic though I'll be dragging my little girl (or boy!) to the latest cricket/rugby/football.....

Chulita · 04/03/2010 19:08

cakey, my DH hates pink so DD wears lots of stripey things, spots and green tops with big flowers on You have to hunt around for them though!

DD's still feverish at the mo, making life hard work because I can't help but worry about her

I'm looking for a gift for my best friend who's ttc, I'd like it to be sort of baby orientated like a baby ornament or something cutesy...any ideas?

CazEM · 04/03/2010 19:14

bloody men! And apparently I'm the one with the pregnancy hormones, he has just had a big girls strop. He's worse than me. Grrrrr.

Chulita · 04/03/2010 19:19

Hmm...DH had one of them the other night, must be all the hormones in the air
