we piut dd1 into a forward facing car seat before she reached 9kg to
thats what we have decided
she is over 8kg now

NatalieJane · 18/03/2010 11:36

Correction to my last post, the sentence was supposed to say 'I am dissapointed.....but* it was on the pricey side for what it was' we're not looking for a pricey house!!

Thanks for all of DS1's birthday wishes

Playing, glad you had a nice evening You might be supprised how long the test stays pos, it could be days, it could be weeks, always different.

Diege, there are loads of reasons why we're not looking to buy, main one being that we are priced well out of the market here, until we have two wages coming in, we've not a prayer, we'd probably be able to get one of the small 3 bed new builds but it'd be smaller than here, it'd cost us more to live there, and TBH, we're really liking the feeling of having no mortgage to pay. Sound's ridiculous because we're paying double the rent here of what we were paying mortgage on our old house, but it just doesn't seem as... not sure what the word is, held down/stuck/stuffed! As it was, we just hit so lucky with our old house, there are houses over there that were on the market before we put ours on and they are still on the market now, our's sold in 5 days for more than we were asking for it, we could have still been waiting to move in the first place if it hadn't just happened that the first 4 people who saw it didn't want to buy it and kept bdding against each other. Never want to be in that sort posistion again!

Hi everyone I've missed, am in a rush, got something very exciting to do next...

Tesco was empty, the pond was cold (it's out in the open, flat as a pancake all around it, wind was chilly) and there were only 2 ducks, usually swarming down there, so all over with nice and quickly. It is so nice to be able to drive that car! The Mondeo was awful, I felt so unsafe in it, hence why I never drove with the kids in the car and only drove when I absolutely had to! Really nice to be enjoying it again! Was worried I would be one of the wussy drivers that wouldn't go anywhere (My sister will not turn right, she will drive all around their large town just to avoid a right turn, SIL won't drive on roads she doesn't know, and says she doesn't know any roads outside of her village so won't drive out of the village - madness in both cases!)

Right, the exciting thing, since pond/Tesco didn't take half the time I thought it would, I am going to celebrate by cracking The Box open See told you it was exciting!

See you in 6 days!

NatalieJane · 18/03/2010 11:50

Bloody refresh, grrrrr....

Hi Kayz, how is it going?

Tink, I do 100% agree with the others I'm afraid, but obviously it's your call. I've never really had the problem of wanting to go to a bigger seat but can't because of their weight, they've all been big heavy lumps and been ready for the next seat up before most would be. DS3, bearing in mind he was tiddler when he was born, was out of his cabrio around 9 months, seem to remember DS2 being out of his cabrio at 8 months, they just get too heavy for them, and that can be as much of a problem as being too small. DS1 was out of his baby carrier thingy quite early, but that was because DH, at the time, had a van for work with 6 seats in it, we decided to get rid of our car and use the van, thought it would be fine, we had to buy a special Britax seat (had to go all the way to Milton Keynes for it as well) because of the shape of the van seat and we still wanted the rearwards facing option, the car seat was great lasted him till he was 4, but, the idea of just using the van lasted about 2 weeks before we got a new car, so we did all that messing about (and £250 on the seat) for nothing!

Sorry, I went on a bit didn't I?!

Am going now, to The Box, first time I've been excited about a box that isn't full of wine for a long time, maybe ever actually!

Playingatmotherhood · 18/03/2010 12:08

Kay- Hi, hope you are doing ok.

Nat - enjoy "the box"

The car seat debate is interesting. I do side with the rest of the Wagoners. My DS is still too light for the next stage at 12.5 months (8.78kg, 19lbs 6ozs). He is a bit squashed in it, as although he is small weight wise he's exactly average for height at 76cm. But as GBL said the key is not what happens to their feet its their head. According to Which a child has not outgrown a car seat until their eyes are level with the top of the seat. This means that DS still has an inch or even 2 spare and is just going to have to put up with slightly squashed feet as I will not be putting him into the next stage till I have too.

So my HV apt was a real waste of time considering I would have much rather put my feet up with a cup of tea and get some rest! It is nice to know DS's weight is as he hasn't been weighed since he was 8 months but as for the rest of the questions it was a bit OTT. Poor women foolishly asked what contraception I was using and I couldn't help myself saying "well actually I am in the middle of a mc right now but as soon as thats over we won't be using any again". Really rather mean, you should have seen her face but ask a silly personal question get a silly personal answer.

tinkstoddleriswalking · 18/03/2010 12:30

cheers for thoughts ladies

it is a nightmare having slow gaining children. dd1 gains weight so slowly. she is 4.5 years and only 27lbs.4
98 cm tall

dd2 is tall for her age is on 50 centile in red cook for her age think she is 76cms has such long legs

had to give up with dd1 and rear facing she just wasnt growing!! and getting quite old

they will both have the britax evolva 123 dd1 already has thjiso ne it lasts up to age 11 she has harness on and probably will till she is 8 years old!!
it is a great seat though

sorry for hv playing what a pain

tinkstoddleriswalking · 18/03/2010 12:30

i have just bought a snap fish flip book really nice

Diege · 18/03/2010 12:43

Good reasons indeed for not wanting to buy NAT! TBH I've always liked renting (the same points you make) but monthly rents this month way out of our budget for all 6 of us.
PLAYING, for you on behalf of HV - why do they ask about contraception at this stage? . I'm glad you said what you did . My friend's dd has been referred because she wouldn't pick up a screwed up ball of paper from hv hand (ie, pincer grip thingy). Nuts because she had been picking up tiny crumbs off the floor and handing them to her mum in the prescence of the hv during the appointment (my friend was mortified) but refused to take something from the hands of a stranger and is hence 'displaying a developmental lag'. World gone mad! Suffice to say friend won't be attending appointment at development centre!
KAYZ, good to have you back! Re: summary, my mind goes woolly at the prospect, though a few things stick in my mind. NAT's course, Nat's course, and ... ummmm, lots of people gearing up to ttc-ing, Playing's sad news that you might have caught up on , lots of poorlies and work gripes...How are things with you and the ds's? Have been thinking of you x
Just got back from shops, laden with pizzas and smartie cakes as dd2 has a friend round after school - so 5 children to practice on Have also recruited some midwives in my research study to interview, v.exciting as a notoriously difficult group to get, so some real 'blending' going on today as I try to organise that. I don't suppose anyone has any recommendations for a good digital dictaphone? (I can get the money back through work so price not an issue as such).
Right, time for lunch and a tidy while ds in bed.

gingerbreadlatte · 18/03/2010 13:11

Hello everyone

Play- glad you are ok.

Kay- nice to "see" you here. How are things going with the separation arrangements?

Nat- hello

Glad I am not alone on my carseat thoughts here- what i mean is that Im not being PFB about having a RF seat!

Gruff- will send you a FB message with more details but we basically have got the rearfacing version of the britax evolva that TInk has got. I cant remember where its called. Its great and DD is v comfy in it. As Nat said there is a place in Milton Keynes but there are load of other places about that stock RF seats, I will dig out the details that I have somewhere

Unfortunately I have a tiny 3 door car so I couldnt do RF in there but I have got a kiddycare comfort pro that is the next best alternative to RF (according to my research) - it has an impact cushion that is held in place by a normal seatbetl. It doesnt have a 5point harness. There is loads about them on the carseats topic on here. BTW,I had a nice chat on the phone with the lady in a baby shop in peterfield about these seats, we got ours a bit closer to home in the end but she was v helpful! Althought she knew diddly squat about RF car seat safety....

Im a bit of a carseat geek im afraid!

Hi everyone else

tinkstoddleriswalking · 18/03/2010 15:24

hi diege and nat
ye for yummy bit diege good luck with kids after school

giner - you are

Diege · 18/03/2010 17:34

Phew, in the middle of it here - itching to have a really good shout, but somehow my lips remained sealed with dd2's friend being here
Hope everyone is ok - not long till (their) bedtime!

NatalieJane · 18/03/2010 17:36

Diege, well done for tracking the M/W's down! How is the experimental 5 going?

Playing, sorry for rubbish HV visit, good on you for being straight with her though. We've still not met our's yet, DS3 hasn't had his 12m jabs yet, she rang about a week ago to say she is waiting for our notes from the old surgery, don't see why she HAS to wait, the new GP has them. Got a long list I need to go through with her as well...

OK, I know you've all obviously been waiting very quietly for my return from The Box T'is lush, of course all stuff we couldn't afford even if we had 6 wages coming in but I get the next best thing, working with it all! DS1's room is a lot better, you can actually see the carpet, I found a total of 10 boxers, 6 pairs of socks and 8 odd socks, all under his bed, wouldn't mind but he's got his own laundry basket How hard can it be to put something in an open top basket? He doesn't even have to take the lid off, and surely it is easier to put it in the basket, than it is to push them under the bed, the sheet's in the way... Good job it's his birthday else he'd not get off so lightly!

Right am going to do their tea, hotdogs, don't know how they eat them, the smell is enough to put me off, luckily it really is a rarity, think it's the first time since we moved in here, DS2 can't even remember what they are. Don't know what to do for DS3 though, hotdogs are far too salty, even as a one off... am thinking maybe fishfinger on the hotdog buns, they're having my 'Pasta la Vista' (chicken and mushrooms) with it though, doesn't really go with fish, doesn't really go with hotdogs either but they're having something proper along side the hotdogs! Hmmm decisions decisions.

Have a good night everyone x

Just thought, scrap my pasta, they can all have jacket spuds, peppers, cucumber and sweetcorn, goes with hotdogs and fishfingers without a lot of work! Simples!

NatalieJane · 18/03/2010 17:37

... oh well that answered that question then!

It's always different when it's your own...

tinkstoddleriswalking · 18/03/2010 18:44

sounds good nj

GruffaloSoldier · 18/03/2010 22:00

Hello everyone!

Lots of chat on here It's so nice to have the wagon so full again

we have had a busy day today! had DH home this morning and watched "Up" (GC just played, he is not that interested in TV - he's too "busy") Then me and GC went to a local forest place for a long walk with an NCT mum and DD, she and GC are the oldest in the group so it was really nice just us too. Had a good old natter. Got there at 2.30, didn't leave until gone 5pm! Was a lovely afternoon.

Off to Southampton tomorrow to see my BF and 5 month old DD. Then out in the evening to a friend's house locally

Playing - good on you for telling HV how it is. I hate it when they ask that. So nosy, and what's it got to do with them?? I do find that all HV seem to think they are your mother!

NJ - hope DS enjoyed his birthday grub. Hooray for box I'm not sure I have followed what it actually is but it sounds exciting!

Diege - did you manage to fight the urge to shout?? Bedtime is by far the best time of the day

GBL - thanks for car seat info and FB message - really helpful! I will look into it further.

Kayz - lovely to see you on here! I'm afraid a summary is too blinkin' hard as its so busy on here at the mo! How are you anyway??

Hello to any lurkers!/anyone I have missed!

Moosy · 18/03/2010 23:10

Gruff, how about renting out your flat then renting somewhere else for you? Could that be a way around your dilemma?

Loving all the house talk, I'm currently painting manically and trying to tidy up ready for selling our house. The EA is coming on wednesday to take photos and it should be in the local paper on the 1st April. Of course I'll put a link on for you all to have a nose!

Nat, I'm of your Box (does that sound a bit odd??), I'd love to be able to afford (and have the talent) to decorate the barn beautifully but I think to start with it'll be vats of Wickes white everywhere to start with. Maybe once we've been in a while and got used to the house we'll decide to do something a bit more adventurous!

GBL, I thought I was a most obsessive car seat bore, but I'll happily hand the baton over to you , the RF that lasts up to 5 sounds interesting, I might have to find out about that.

Nat, what car have you just got and can you fit all 3 car seats in the back? We've got a skoda octavia and at the moment DD2 sits in the front in a Britax 1st class facing forwards, DD1 sits on one side in the back in a high back booster, DD3 sits on the other side in a handbag type baby seat and I squeeeeeeeze in between! I'd love it if they could all fit in the back and I could be a grown up in the front again.

Tink, DDs 1 & 2 are slow growing too, in fact they both stayed facing backwards until they were nearly 2 as they took that long to reach the max weight! DD1 has only just gone into a high back booster at 4.5 and that was only because if she didn't there'd be no room for me!

Playing, sorry to hear the scan results , hope you're still ok. Good answer to the HV though, that's the kind of thing I'd love to say but am never brave enough!

Well, we had a minor miracle here tonight, Fizzy's always been fed to sleep in the evening but a few times recently she's fed until she's full, but not gone to sleep so I've kept her up until she gets tired, then I boob her for a few minutes until she falls asleep. But tonight I thought I'd give it a go putting her to bed wide awake just to see what happens. She made little noises for about 20 minutes but then she went to sleep all by herself! This is such a big deal as it means I might be able to reclaim some of my evenings again . DH has booked us a table for tomorrow night at our favourite local eatery (pub a couple of miles down the road) so I shall be devouring a very large steak and not worrying about my mum having to feed her (FF, not BF!) to sleep

Moosy · 18/03/2010 23:10

Oooops, what an essay, sorry!

maxxymoosmummy · 19/03/2010 07:45

hope everyone has a great day.

NatalieJane · 19/03/2010 08:23

Morning

Gruff, The Box, it is full of samples of carpets, hard flooring, curtain fabric, sofa fabric, paint swatches, wall paper cuttings, blind samples - wooden and fabric, samples of materials to have custom made furniture made out of, kitchen cupboard and drawer samples.... everything really! It seems RM actually put them in a box, they were all in seperate envelopes/small boxes/etc. all sent from different places, RM must have stuck them in the box so they could drop them more easily, have had things wrapped in elastic bands and in a clear plastic bag before when there are a few of them, but never had them in a box!

Moosy, it's a Zafira, but we've got them all on the middle row of seats, we've got just normal booster, high back booster, and the Britax first class or what ever it is called! It is a bit of a squeeze, but because it's higher it's a lot easier than it was in the Mondeo.

MMM, good going with DS's dad Am sure DS will get used to it if you make his dad do it more often.

Right, don't know when I'll get on next, DH is home till next Thursday, today we shall be clearing house up, putting DS1's trampoline up ready for tomorrow, then his party tonight, Saturday is going to be like his bday, he's having his pressies and Sunday we'll be going into a town to spend his money, then DH has his tiny little op () on Monday so will be running around after him no doubt till he's back at work!

Hope you all have lovely weekends, I will try to get on and at least read even if I don't post, by the time I get back with any luck I'll be ordering the stuff I need for the course - so warning: likely to be very loud, again

Bye for now xxx

NatalieJane · 19/03/2010 08:28

Oh my god, my gran says 'bye for now' Thought you turned into your mum, not your mum's mum? Will try to come back hip and cool, as well as loud!

Laters girlfriends xoxox

(Oh god, that is no better at all!)

essenceofSES · 19/03/2010 08:40

Morning!

Day off work today as I worked Wednesday for a meeting instead. We're off to meet friends at 10am at a nearby pub . It's a v child friendly pub that does coffees and has a "wacky warehouse" for the children. There'll be 6 children there with O being the youngest and the oldest being 3yo!

MMM - well done on getting DS's Dad to help out last night. Hope your headache goes.

Nat - Your box sounds fantastic! Hope DS1 has a good party. Can I come round for a go on the trampoline?!

Moos - ooh yes, do post a link How exciting!
Well done to you and F on self settling at bedtime!

Gruff - sounds like you had a lovvely day yesterday. Enjoy seeing your BF and your trip to Southampton today.

Hello everyone else - GBL, tink, Star, Rugby...

I'm feeling a bit happier about things today although DH is now away until late Sunday (visiting his folks in Ireland). Will try and pop back on later.

Hope the trip goes well SES - wacky warehouse always a 'fun' option
NAT, sounds like a film The Box - in fact, I think there is one, though sadly not about samples...Still waiting for my paint samples here
J super whiney today..not happy at all. Think he's frustrated by his meagre efforts at crawling..
MOOS excellent news at bedtime routine- bet that will make such a difference
MMM poor you with headaches - eye test may well be answer.
Hello to everyone else! Must go, J nightmare!

Playingatmotherhood · 19/03/2010 11:48

Hi all,

HV was actually quite young, think she was just a bit inexperienced tbh. She didn't upset me but I just kinda thought that its really none of her business plus that sort of question phrased like that could really upset someone who was feeling vunerable so I thought I would just say it and maybe she'll think twice next time!

Everyone seems to have busy days planned, how lovely.

One of my friends came round yesterday afternoon which was nice. She'd been worried about me because she hadn't seen me all week, I must go out too much . Was nice to tell her anyhow and have someone for DS to play with as he's obviously missed his friends this week. She'd guessed I was pg as I did have a bit of a bump going on already but had been waiting for me to tell her before saying anything. Was very nice to be able to talk about it with someone who just listened, gave me a hug then we carried on as normal.

Think things are beginning to calm down on the bleeding front so might go out into town today (although its horrible outside) and I have my sister popping in late afternoon for a cup of tea. Feel like getting out of the house now.

Nat - now that does sound like a truly exciting box

Ses- thanks for thinking about me

Moos - sounds like you're heading in the right directiom

MMM - Def get yourself an eye test, recurrent headaches are so draining.

Deige - How nice to have a lovely day but not so good to have workmen spoiling it!

Hi Gruff, GBL and anyone else I have rudely missed.
