I'll take some pictures once I have washed up!! It has cupboards on the floor and wall on 2 walls. Then we have freestanding cupboards on one wall.

Diege · 24/02/2010 15:29

Oh no TINKS how annoying, you must be cross
NAT I think you are totally in tune with my ideas/thoughts on decor. I have been cooling towards feature walls for a while (they feel a little 60 minute makeover now and very dateable)plus the question of 'what wall'. Our bedroom doesn't have uniform sized walls, plus a ceiling that curves down to the outer wall, fireplace shoved towards one end, very higgledy piggledy sloped floor...Like the idea of one colour walls and then maybe a large splashy print (love the hot pink/lime combo you mentioned to KAYZ). Now I have a question about skirting boards and ceilings . Read in Elle Decoration that, contrary to popular opinion, skirting boards should be a shade darker than walls, and the ceiling a shade lighter, to avoid the 'picture frame effect'. I can see how that makes sense, but wondered what you thought? And what do you do with the skirting boards and ceiling on walls that are wallpapered with a print? Pick out the background colour and then darken/lighten accordingly? Another more pressing issue is curtain length. I've given in some measurements to an online curtain place that seem really good (a real shop but with on-line service). Anyway, they're for dd3's room and I measured them so that they are a few inches lower than the window sill, mainly becuse I don't want full length becuse of the bedhead, but measuring them to the sill seemed a bit 'risky' in light of possible shrinkage/my measuring etc, and they'd look a bit dolls-housey. Does it look ok for them them to be longer than sill or is it is no no? . Sorry to have rambled...
Bloody meeting has gone over time, so have the high risk strategy of getting the late train, hoping to make the 2 min connection or I won't make nursery!!

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 15:54

Tink, do you mean you got two new punctures, or are they slow ones from this morning? Doesn't sound like you've had a good day either way. You got chocolate supplies?!

TBH Diege, I am bit 'bend the rules' type, I don't like having the same as next door, and the one next to them, oh and the one next to them... I tend to stick to white woodwork downstairs (or stipped), but there are so many options. Again I'd need to see the room, the light, the size etc.

Higgledy bedrooms are the easiest to deal with (much easier than a higgledy kitchen - had one of them!) everyone speaks of letting the lovely light into the master bedroom etc. I go the other way, I go there to sleep and have sex I want romance and warmth. Lot's go for reds, I like teals (again), french navy, deep purple, even black and gold (Never black with white, not in the bedroom). Lavish and truely scrumptious!

And ceilings, if it really could do with a new ceiling/skimming always stick to white till it's been done, I personally would only consider a different colour either in an old house with big high ceilings, or in a childrens bedroom. Never ever colour on anything below 8ft, it really brings the ceiling down (except the bedrooms - kids bedrooms doesn't matter if it brings the ceiling lower, kids are short and it can be a really eye catching feature. Master bedroom, it adds to the romantic snug feel). BTW if I were doing a proper grown up guest bedroom, I wouldn't go for the dark colours, would stick to bright/light/pale/boring colours

Curtains, I actually don't like the look of them sitting ont he sill, curtains not really my thing though and is going to be the big learning curve part of my courses I think though so don't know the rules. I always either go full length, slightly under sill, or if just shop bought ones - where ever they end up!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 24/02/2010 16:10

again just popping on... it's like i've entered the wrong topic- good housekeeping-ish!! haha!!

Tink- on your behalf- hope they find the twunt that did it.

have a headache so hope to get a nice relaxing bath and an early night after tea.

LaTourEiffel · 24/02/2010 17:10

Hi all,

Sorry for punctures Tink - how you sound chirpy after that lot I don't know, but you do! Hope you've got some choc in, like NJ said.

Diege / NJ - am loving the housey talk, makes a change from dribble, poo and tantrums! Personally, i prefer my woodwork and coving to be white, but we do our coving and skirting in brilliant white, and the ceiling in sail white. Its just slightly duller and it makes more of a feature of the coving. In my mind, coving is the modern alternative to plaster moulding - and that was always white...so to have anything different seems odd.

My nan's house is very old, not sure what period [ignorant emoticon] but it has beautiful high ceilings, enormous windows, huge rooms - wide staircase etc. The living room is fab, a kind of mustard yellow carpet, a sort of dark aqua / turquoise blue curtains, pale blue walls with white plaster detailings, ornate plaster ceiling with glass / crystal chandelier and the sofas are pale blue / cream floral.

What colour is teal [insert another ignorant emoticon right here!]

I'm not keen on 'feature walls'. I'm with NJ in thinking that artwork is more effective, classier and more importantly, transferable if you move, so a better investment all round. I've not seen any in real life that I've ever been impressed with - its really hard to get the corners right and people seem to go berserk with the mentalness of the pattern.

I need help with lounge furniture if anyone got any suggestions. Needs to be affordable before you get carried away.

I want a cupboard to go in an alcove, tall to make best storage use of the space. I think, cupboard at bottom with shelves above for books / ornaments / pretty things but not too cluttered. I also want a matching mini side board type thing to go just inside the door. Am fed up of looking online and only finding office furniture that seems to do the job of storing what I want...

DS1 is much better today, he's been to pre-school and played nicely... Sadly, his best friends mum has just called, after we left she fell (she says was pushed but at 3.1 you just don't know) and has split her head open - they are now at a&e waiting to be seen . Am sure she'll be fine but its a bit rubbish.

Am going over later (weds night girly meet up) and will be making flapjacks while there - its becoming a nice little regular and good for me to get out.

I've got a poorly tummy - have had it since Sunday. Had a very rubbish night last night due to it, and went to see the doctor today - he said it could last up to a week but if I have another bout in the next 24 hours to catch a sample (bleurgh) and drop it in so they can check to make sure I haven't got any nasty bugs.

LaTourEiffel · 24/02/2010 17:29

Can't - sorry for headache, bath souns nice idea...

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 17:37

Teal

I think very occasionally the room is crying out for a proper feature wall, they have their place, just not in every single living room in the UK!

What sort of furniture are you after LaTour?

Sorry about your upset tummy, that's no fun at all

essenceofSES · 24/02/2010 17:45

Aaargh!! I've got hiccups!! Keep coming on and off all day and can't get rid of them at the moment! O keeps giving me strange looks as they're the deep noisy type

tink - unbelievable! Glad you've got the tyres sorted now but v on your behalf.

LaTour - poor DS's friend! Hope she gets seen and sorted quickly. Girly meet up sounds good.

Cant - enjoy your bath

MMM - hope M's jabs went ok

Kay - bet you're looking forward to tomorrow night!

OBEM - I watched the first 10mins and then DH wanted to watch something else. Tbh, I was getting all emotional about the woman that had the little boy born with his intestines outside. I wanted to sob when she was trying to hold him.

Decor chat - I'm hopeless as I seem to be unable to envisage how things will look. We're quite lucky that our house didn't need decorating when we moved in. It is all fairly neutral though so we'll probably gradually work out way through. We've done O's room. Next will be the kitchen extension or our bedroom. I keep looking for a curtain/bedding set for our bedroom but no joy so far...

Aaarrgh! Still got hiccups!!

Kayzr · 24/02/2010 18:31

Nat, our front room has a teal feature wall. We also have a teal lampshade and teal patterned curtains. I just love teal. It's a great colour.

I'm trying to find a nice black wallpaper for our bedroom but I can't seem to find the 'one'

tinksbabyis1 · 24/02/2010 19:14

must have been done last nite nat but with a smaller hole in the other tyres - i am still and lots of
only have penguins!!!

oh no latour - tummy problems are horrid - i luv the colour teal

maxxymoosmummy · 24/02/2010 20:22

hi everyone, maxs jabs went ok, only a little wimper. and no more till pre-school booster now
bit annoyed with the doctors, as hadan appointment for M 5.05pm about his eczma flaring up and really irritating him, so hd to drop tea and leave. ( baring in mind i only phoned at 4.50 ) wasnt seen till 5.45 and M was causing havock, with bein itchy / hungry / tired / thirsty and hot. so not a good time there. the good thing is he has been given some diff cream to use for the next week ( twice day ) just hope it clears it up.
TINK thats rubbish and bout the punctures, lucky nothing bad happened. and your all safe.
SES hope ya hickups have left you now.

NatalieJane · 25/02/2010 09:16

Morning

Ses, I heard of a man once who had hiccups for 11 years straight, never stopped, not sure if it's an urban ledgend type thing or not because I can't remember if it was someone someone knew or something, but everytime I think of hiccups I think of him. Hope your's have stopped by now!

Tink, hope they didn't return last night? I don't get people like that, even in my teenage years I can't imagine it being much fun slashing tyres all night?

MMM, glad M's jabs went smoothly V. bad re. delays at the surgery. Hope the new cream helps the itchiness, my friend's DD suffers with it terribly, mainly on her head and face, the poor girl gets beside herself when it's at it's worse, trying to brush her hair is agony for her.

I am shattered, can't get to sleep because I am too excited, can't stop it all going round and round in my head And I wouldn't mind but it's nothing new, it's just the same thoughts over and over again. Can't wait to get the course material, at least I'll have something new to keep me awake!

tinksbabyis1 · 25/02/2010 09:26

cheers mm and nat - well the final tyre went overnight all sortd now!!!
popped to tesco for choccy

NatalieJane · 25/02/2010 09:40

What a PITA Tink? Choccy sounds good though

DS2 spilt a whole cup of tropicana through his toy box, so my kitchen now looks like a Toys R Us, but a wet one. Why couldn't it have just gone on the floor? So much easier to clean up! And my hands are like bloody ice blocks from running the water all over the toys. I remember DS1 doing the same into his tub of train tracks, when I say tub I mean one of those big plastic round ones that people use for gardening etc. it was full of train tracks, stations, engines, bridges etc. took me about two hours to wash them all, DH came home and asked why I didn't just put the tracks at least in the dishwasher

Diege · 25/02/2010 09:45

Morning! Yes I'd heard of the hiccouping thing too NAT, although it was a girl on Record breakers that I saw . I have been having dreams all night about wallpaper, curtains, colour schemes etc etc if it's any consolation Thanks for the advice btw; feeling more settled about my curtains
Back later, ds needs nap

Diege · 25/02/2010 09:47

Oh and what a nightmare about the juice! Could you take it outside and swish it with the garden hose? Though can see how that wouldn't necessarily deal with the stickiness.

NatalieJane · 25/02/2010 10:02

LOL at hiccups, and Record Breakers, they should bring that back!

I've just rinsed them all under the tap, can't do much more with them, the ones with batteries are going to be a bit hit or miss but I figured they were already wet anyway. He was lucky really, if he'd have knocked it in the other direction, his pc would have been drowned in it, not sure I'd rinse that under the tap.

Must do something today, thing is the house could do with a bit of a tidy round, but it's only going to take 10 mins, and then I've nothing to do, so trying to save it for when I get really bored! Was thinking about taking them down to the marina, just to get out and get some fresh air, but, it looks like it's going to rain. In fact it is raining. Don't know what to do with myself.

Diege · 25/02/2010 10:13

Get down to the mariner!!!! I have a friend coming round at 12.30 who is having her hair done here with my hairdresser(long story) so I HAVE to get the place tidied. Thursday is always house in a state day, being in the office mon-wed - in fact if you look carefully I'm sure there's the odd pot or two from Sunday night

maxxymoosmummy · 25/02/2010 10:19

morning everyone.
waiting on M waking up hes such a lazy boy when he wants to be. hpoping the cream works, as starting to use it today, and will use it for the next week as its really strong so any longer and it could damage his skin with the steroids in it.
TINK chocolate does sound god tinks, altho im meant to be cutting down so none in the cupboard here.
nothing planned for today, the only day this week i havent had plans, and now im bored with having a busy week.
thinking of taking M to my auntys then to his nannas

NatalieJane · 25/02/2010 10:29

It is tipping it down now, no way am I going anywhere, it is bad enough getting wet on your own, even worse with 2 under 3! Hope it stops this afternoon though, need to nip to the shop.

Hope your hair goes well

Morning MMM

Diege · 25/02/2010 10:34

Ok, I'll let you off if it's raining..Just started here too.
Hair isn;t mine if that makes sense! I'm pimping out my house as friend is someone I work with in Wales and hairdresser local to my house. The sort of thing that seemed a good idea at the time, but it's every 3 weeks and sort of takes most of my day at home with ds up!
Hi MMM, I know what you mean about quiet days when you've been having busy ones -m often the hardest ones with Los I think. Are you taking ds to x-partner's mums?

afternoon.

Have been busy today, first of all went to a friends to collect a load of clothes i've bought from her, stuff her DD's have outgrown that will fit DD2... in fact some would fit DD1, but she already has too much!!

Then went to next to see if there was anything for DD2 out of bday money, and jeans for DS... there was!! too much choice for DD2, but got 2 lovely leggings & top sets for her for spring/summer, a lovely jumper dress ready for the cooler months later in the jear and a stunning shorts, top & tights set for now. Then managed to get DS 3 pairs of jeans and a pair of cargo sort of joggers.... got all that within my £50 limit!! wuhoo!!

At my course tomorrow, then taking the DC's to my mums on saturday.

been to asda AND tesco today too!! got all our food to last us till payday. And decided on chilli bean buretto's for tea tonight!! Yum Yum!!
