cheers nat about coat

diege ye for smear going well

mmm - good luck for tea we r having pizza and chips

we enjoyed meeting with mums we take it in turns @ each others houses

hi cant

Diege · 23/02/2010 20:00

Same here CANT, bleedin' snow I too am dreading waking up to a blanket of of the stuff! Thanks for the milk advice SES - you'd think I'd be more relaxed after 4, but if anything I'm worse as I have the other 3 to compare with! Am starting him on weetabix/proper porrideg for breakfast tomorrow, so that should soak in a few ounces! He did take 4oz from a bottle this morning (was v.hungry and that's all I offered) though his face was a picture
NAT, house is early 1800s and has loads of potential. Kitchen and bathroom need ripping out and starting again (think 80s faux farmhouse and avocado bathroon suite) but they will have to wait until we can afford it. As for the other rooms, more cosmetic, though the woman who lived here certainly had a thing for woodchip wallaper
MMM hope you've now got your feet up and ds is asleep
TINKS nice to meet up with other mums - sounds good fun
Right, dh has gone out to get some eggs - we only have a cream one in the fridge I feel bereft without my exam scripts to mark

maxxymoosmummy · 23/02/2010 20:05

DIEGE ye hes been fast asleep for a good 2 hours now really tired myself for some reason, but got things to watch so need to stay awake till 11.

LaTourEiffel · 23/02/2010 21:39

Evening all, see this is why I haven't been on much too, I post a bit, pop off for an afternoon with the kids, come back, and you've all been doing stuff - it takes forever to catch up!

Diege, sorry to hear you had a crap smear experience, but pleased to hear its gone better today. Your house sounds like it will be fab when its finished. We've been in ours 9 years this year (where did the time go!?) and we've still got the bathroom and our bedroom to go. We had woodchip hell too - our previous owner painted over it with silk emulsion too - not just the walls by the way, the ceiling too!

Also, the men earlier, they were def. Jehovah's witnesses, the booklet was written by them...

NJ, course seems fab, now you've said about it I remember you talking about it before - really proud of you! You've done so much, 3 kids, house move, driving test and now the course!

MMM, spag bol sounds nice, perhaps you could ask DS to fling some this way?

Can't - think your DD and my DS1 have been on the same planet today, its been very, very hard work.

Have been trying to type this whilst watching telly, and have flicked over to watch 'one born every minute' and am absolutely bloody horrified - at both the midwife telling the poor girl she can't have gas and air cos she's only 3 cm's - wtf, i didn't get past 2, i had tens, gas and air, pethidine and a bloody epidural! Then a C-section, but that's by the by . On top of that, her husband is an utter arsehole, telling the poor girl if she hadn't rested for a couple of hours, the labour would be progressing quicker so he could get on with his evening . I hope he feels ashamed of himself, and if he doesn't, that someone watching the program that knows him, tells him what a wanker he is.

Sorry, rant over

Diege · 23/02/2010 22:10

Latour. Just finished wathcing it myself - agree about the dad - what is it with the dads on that programme? Did you see Steve in the first one? I also thought that about the gas and air; what was all that about choice then not letting her have it ; very odd. I am enjoying the series, though it is making me extremely UNbroody if there is such a word!
Lol about woodchip - ceilings here too . Am hoping to get away with lining paper and then wallpaper to cover the bedrooms at least, though think it will be a replastering job over it in lounge (we can't strip as the old paper is arsenic-based according to surveyer).
Hope day wasn;t too taxing with ds1!
Right, up to bed I think, 6.30 start in the morning. Night all!

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 07:18

Good morning

Oh my goodness me, I was watching OBEM, DH was on pc, and even he pricked his ears up at the dad on there, I couldn't believe what a load of sodding bollocks he was coming out with, first time I have shouted at the telly for ages. And the MW was no better, hated hated hated the way she went and moaned in the staff room, I know it's what people do, and I am sure she isn't the first, but when you know cameras are there...? I wouldn't be supprised if the mum found the whole thing very hard to deal with (think she suffered a pretty nasty tear as well) and then can you imagine watching it back, listening to that twerp poncing on about his ruined evening and then the MW having a dig out of earshot. Grrrrrrrrrr! I love that program! And then when the baby was born, oh my heart was in my mouth, I kept thinking to myself "he'll be OK, two of ours came out like that, and they're fine" and then "but they weren't like it for quite so long" god it looked like he was trying to take a breath and then just couldn't, so gave up. And after Eastenders 'two month old newborn born not breathing' think it was just about enough to finish me off! And I am glad they finished the show with baby Jack and his parents, his mum (and I'm sure his Dad, they just didn't seem to show him very much) were so brave, I had a lump in my throat the size of Africa when she tried to hold him and then just couldn't, and then again when she did actually hold him, her face was just beautiful

Sorry, also watched that Married Single Other before OBEM came on, won't go into that one...!

Diege, bloody hell, that really is old, (house I mean!) Is it listed? Very much off the top of my head, and with what you were saying yesterday about the duck egg blues, (obviously not seen the house but if it's along the sort of lines I'm imagining in my head), the only thing you'd need to be careful of, is it being too fresh, or cold looking. Have you thought about more of a greeny-blue? Will try and find something later to show you what I mean. Obviously to take it back to 1800's you would be looking at very dark heavy colours and furnishings, but IMO, if you do it and get it not quite perfect it will end up looking like a funeral parlour, or like one of the poor peoples houses that used to be on changing rooms. Sorry, again, am sure you'd get it spot on, like I said yesterday you have great taste!

LaTour, thank you I can't wait to get going on it, (just incase you didn't know that!) I keep getting that thing when I think about it too much, you know where your heart pounds like crazy and you're grinning so widely that you can barely breathe, and your tummy goes really tight, just for a couple of seconds?!

And I already have a job lined up for the portfolio, not to start this year but in the next couple, it's a whole farmhouse that has just been (stunningly) completely renovated, it's all just been painted white, and the owner (a MNer) has said they'll be looking at adding colours etc. in a couple of years

Have rambled again, like I said before, feel very free to ignore! Think DH would like to install an off switch on me somewhere, or at least volume control, poor bloke, he puts up with a lot...!

largeginandtonic · 24/02/2010 07:24

Hullo apologies for slackness, have been manic.

Hope you are all ok. Will try and catch up today.

Have not seen that birth prog yet, have it in skyplus. I love it! It's a bit like torture though....

LaTourEiffel · 24/02/2010 12:11

Diege - the 'choices' the midwife gave weren't missed by me either, she was basically saying put up with it or sod off home... what the hell kind of choice is that? I was ranting away at the telly.

Was very, very sad for the mum, who I can't believe managed as well as she did - I didn't see all of it, but not to have shouted, sworn, or even seemed to have gotten mildly frustrated or peed off with either the mental midwife or her bloody prat of a husband was quite frankly, saintly.

Sadly, the service she got from the mw was about the same as I got from mine first time around - I noticed when I scanned the telly addicts thread on OBEM that there were quite a few who seemed to think she was fab - but I know we wouldn't have gotten on at all. Like you NJ, I was utterly gobsmacked when she slagged the mum off in the staff room, in full knowledge the cameras were there - it just smacked of smuggery.

It makes me so, so cross, I wish I could do something to make sure that this didn't happen to women - there's just no need for it.

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 12:26

Tink, really sorry about your tyres, there are some real f*wits out there

LaTour, I think to be fair to the MW, she did do a good job with the mum, she was there supporting her (along with the fake happygoluckyIam voice of hers) and I think she did a really good job of trying to keep the mum calm when the baby was born and her fanjo has just been torn in half, but, I know if I was that mum I would have felt like at least I had the MW compared to the utter dimwit of a DH, so then to see the MW calling her on weeks possibly months down the line, on telly, I would be heartbroken.

And why was she on her back? They said she had back problems, so why on earth wasn't she encouraged to stay upright? TBF she had a long old slog of it, so she was probably cream crackered, but they didn't seem to even try and encourage her to sit/kneel/anything. DS3 was B2B and I couldn't have led down for anything, I suspect DS1 was B2B, and I had to lie down with legs in stirrups, I was like that girl from last week minus the swearing, add a bit of support from DH, and minus the epi (didn't work till after I'd had him and stood up!).

LaTour, you are so right, it shouldn't be like that at all. I have been lucky in that DS2 and 3's births have healed a lot of what went wrong with DS1's birth, but his birth put me off giving birth so much that I didn't even think about having another baby for 4 years, and even then I was bricking it the whole way through. They showed me it wasn't my 'fault', and that what happened with the MW's just shouldn't have. If they'd have done their jobs properly I wouldn't have had that kind of experience. And neither would millions of others.

Kayzr · 24/02/2010 13:02

Hello.

I too watched OBEM, that bloody bloke needed a slap!! I couldn't believe how nasty he was to her. The MW bugged me too. She seemed really really nice until she was slagging the mum off. I was nearly in tears when the baby was born. I just wanted him to cry.

Feeling a bit meh here. I feel like I have no idea what I want in my life right now. I am hoping a night out with my friends tomorrow is going to cheer me up.

Hope everyone is ok.

Diege · 24/02/2010 13:08

Afternoon! Busy here so just a sneaky one from the office.
I agree LATOUR, really felt for the woman with the wanky partner and Dominique the midewife. At first I really liked here (the midwife) but as I saw more thought she was incredibly condescending and downright rude. She would certainly irritate the hell out of me if I was giving birth. I think the whole 'I'm here to serve you' was obviosuly a ruse to get women 'on side', then she just bulldoses you with what she wants to happen..
NAT, interesting to hear your thoughts on the house. I see what you mean about the dugg egg blue - could look very cold, and a more greeny blue may be good, esp in bedroom (love that sort of colour with bright pinks etc). Not into Llewellyn Bowen burgundy/flocked paper/dark woods at all (know what you mean about house programmes), so will probably compromise by going for that sort of medium oak colour, but with heritage colours, so lots of muted blues etc but with bright accessories (fuschia floral print chairs etc) soudns awful, but I know what I mean! Not sure about this ;feauture wall' lark. What d'you think?
TINKS about the car. How annoying for you. Wonder if they'll find the culprits?
MMM sounds like another busy day again!
Right, better go, boss in corridor.

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 13:08

Kay, I've lost your email address, will you send me a quick one please? ([email protected])

Night out sound's fun

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 13:16

Sorry x posts Diege, yes know what you mean about mixing the bright prints Feature wall? It can be good, it can be v.v.v. bad. You need to get the lighting right, and match in the accessories very carefully. Seems like the easiest thing in the world but if it's not quite right, it just looks a mess (or it does to me anyway!) I much prefer same colour walls with big daring prints/pictures if you need to put more colour to bring it all in, again you need to pick the right wall, sometimes it is not always best to go with the wall that seems obvious i.e. the chimney etc.

You'd have to see the layout of our house to understand, but to make a feature wall of the wall with the fire place on, it just wouldn't be right, and there is a perfectly good wall that would be much better for it.

Kayzr · 24/02/2010 13:21

Sent it Nat.

Does anyone want to decorate my kitchen??? I have no idea what I want. Originally wanted yellow walls but now I think I would like red and white. In an American 50's diner style.

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 13:25

Turquoise Kay.

Splash of lime green and maybe a teeny bit of hot sexy pink

Or, obviously anything you want...

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 13:25

Sorry will make that clearer, not turquoise everywhere, white everywhere with the other colours here and there!

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 13:27

Sorry, again, I thought you meant the kitchen was already in an american diner style

What's the kitchen like?

Kayzr · 24/02/2010 13:29

Its long and magnolia. I do like the idea of lime green and pink though.

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 14:07

What colour are the cupboards, worktop, floor, sink, anything else that has to stay in there?

Kayzr · 24/02/2010 14:11

The floor is lino that is meant to look like wood. The worktops and cupboard doors are a beige colour. Sink is just a normal metal one.

NatalieJane · 24/02/2010 14:20

I need to see it I think, with the floor and cupboards being light you could probably do a lovely deep colour like teal or proper deep dark stormy grey, but it would depend on where the cupboards are (floor and/or floor, along 1/2/3/4 walls?) as to where you'd put the colour. Take pics I'll tell you
