Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 02/02/2010 14:19

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

Just a quick link to another thread to anyone pg with #2 and worrying how they will love the 2nd as much as the 1st. Brings a tear to your eye though if your a little hormonal link

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 10/03/2010 09:50

Pigley - sorry you're feeling upset about GD and birth options When do you find out if you have it? You might be able to talk to a consultant to see if there any alternatives or a way of managing the birth better?

MDM - your hospital sounds lovely

MoggMum - remember Supernanny only shows the worst cases and probably edits it to make it look worse than it is.

Hospital bag stuff - I was in for a few days and got quite bored as I was too hyped up to sleep when DD was sleeping so I was awake a lot of the time and hadn't taken anything to read or do (DH was only allowed in during the day) so I would recommend having a stash of magazines or something.

I also printed off birth announcements in advance and took stamped addressed envelopes to hospital so that when I could write them out in hospital and get them sent out quickly. It was one less thing to worry about when I got home which was nice.

memorylapse · 10/03/2010 09:51

pigley...you wont neccesarily end up on a drip etc confined to bed..dont panic..Im diabetic and will be induced but I was with my last 3. With DD2..I had pessaries which kicked in in the early hours of the morning and labour was just an hour and a half from start to finish.

also if you are diagnosed with GD they will try diet control first and if you stay diet controlled and your sugars are fine..they are usually happy to leave you to term (well they are at our hospital)..they usually only induce if on insulin or sugars spiral out of control...its not over till the fat lady sings!

sorry for the quick post..its DS 2's birthday so Ive got heaps to do today before we take him and his friends to laser quest for his birthday this evening..then Im off to hospital tomorrow for further monitoring, bloods etc..if diagnosed with Obstetric cholesatasis it can be dangerous to the baby and cause still birth if baby is left past 37 weeks

AnAngelWithin · 10/03/2010 10:12

hi all. wow lots to catch up on as usual!!

ML hope ds2 has a nice birthday. I am waiting for my blood test results for OC too

Lizzie glad placenta has moved for you

Hollyoaks, they are painful. I have got one ahem somewhere i dont want one!! Sitting down is very uncomfortable at the moment!

MDM your bump is tiny!!!! I feel like a whale!!

Tomlin I am glad you have reached a decision about what to do about BIL. Hope you are ok.

Got dd2 home from nursery today with diarrhoea and I am waiting for the police to ring me back as I was attacked by a neighbours dog last night I was very scared. Not hurt, but shaken up. It pushed me over and was snarling at me and i had dog snot all over my arm, I just thank god it was muzzled and that it wasn't one of my children it got to

Duvet day methinks!!!

memorylapse · 10/03/2010 11:04

just looked at your profile pics MDM ..am officially sulking now..you look fab..what a neat little bump

cupcakefairy · 10/03/2010 12:37

Marquise seriously, how can you still look like that?! I am v My Mum just posted a pic of me on facebook and my BIL commented 'is that actually a pillow up your top?' I feel massive!

30 weeks today, can't believe it!

I'm glad I've been religiously reading my baby books as most of that list didn't surprise me (though the first time I heard about the 'mini period' thing that the baby has, and apparently leakages from their nipples, I was really )
I seriously need to make a hospital bag list though, so many good tips about the fruit and stuff to make first post-birth poo easier
TCh you were so organised with the birth announcements! I think we'll just send text messages I was thinking of starting to make some thank you cards now though as I know I'll be needing a lot of those and won't have time to hand make them after baby!

Hobnobfanatic · 10/03/2010 13:03

Good heavens MDM - you have a smaller, neater bump than Claudia Schiffer!

Wow!

I don't think my tum looked like that before I conceived!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 10/03/2010 13:52

Wow MDM, that's such a tidy bump! I look absolutely gigantic already.

Angel - that sounds terrifying Glad you're OK, hope you manage to have a quiet day today.

ML - happy birthday for your DS2. I hope the monitoring goes OK.

Cupcakefairy - having thank you cards ready is very handy. I got a bit obsessive about the whole thing

30ish · 10/03/2010 13:52

Kaffacakes I finish on the 23rd too! Somedays it seems like only a short time to go, but today it feels like eternity!

The lsist and suggestions about what to take to hospital are really helpful, i'm ashamed to admit it but I wasn't very well prepared for DD's birth! I forgot to take a towel and didn't take any nappies - I honestly thought they would be provided!

RE clots, I didn't have any heavy bleeding after DD's birth - is this because I had a section and perhaps they sort of hoovered me out? Perhaps it will be different this time!

Lizzie great news!

Pigleychez try not to worry!

Memorylapse hope everything goes well at the hospital tomorrow. I am sick of the sight of them! With midwife appointments, scans, painful hernias and my forthcoming visit to the breast unit a week tomorrow I will be glad when this baby is delivered!

Gils · 10/03/2010 13:57

Pigley ? thanks for nursing top tip. Was in Matalan last night and found a vest for sleeping at night that had poppers down the front so bought that for hospital
Hollyoaks ? fingers crossed ab?s work. I had a lump removed from top of my head (some sort of blocked gland) now have another 2 that seem to keep getting bigger, will get them removed once recovered from this pregnancy
Rachel ? Agree about half hearted attempts at DIY but also housework. I am by no means a perfectionist but it really annoys me what he classes as a job done
Lizzie ? Congrats on scan amd placenta moving. I still haven?t convinced DH to go for another scan, I do not need it on medical grounds but would love to see lo again
MDM ? hospital sounds great. Stirling where I am going is v basic. New hospital will be opening up in next village later this year ? bad timing I think!! Will need to have a look at this bump pic
Schipo ? congrats on house
Angel ? Terrible experience to have, horrible to think what could have happened had that been a child

DH found DD giving her baby mummy milk last night. I was in stitches. My SIL is doing really well with BF and DD has also seen a friends BF and surprised how well she has accepted it. Fingers crossed it works this time

Has anyone heard that a jaundice baby is very tired baby. I remember my DD slept for hours and hours after birth. Wish I had woken her after a couple of hours, felt like I was playing catch up after that. She was very hungry baby and first couple times she latched on I didn?t do it right so was left very bruised. Determined to get more help this time, think thought of washing all those bottles is spurring me on too

Re mothers day my DH will be away, comes home on Sunday night so we might just put it of a week and do it them. I am only interested in a long lie oh and maybe some chocolate!!!!

Noticed on discussions of the day thread there is one about what is and isn?t needed in hospital bag

Oh one more thing. Matalan does sleepsuits with wee turn up sleeves, its like a built in scratch mitt. Thought that was a great idea

MoggMum · 10/03/2010 15:30

Gils .. where do I find 'discussions of the day thread'??

memorylapse · 10/03/2010 16:13

moggmum..look to the right of your screen..it shows discussions of the day..top one is ..hospital bag

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 10/03/2010 17:00

Hospital bag discussion thread is quite interesting. Our NCT teacher gave us quite a good list, so am pretty happy about what to take. My only issue is when to pack it!?

I don't want to leave it too late (I know a few people who have had their first babies at 30, 32, 35 and 36 weeks), but also don't want to be ridiculously early. Also, if you pack early to be on the safe side in case of a premature labour, should you buy and pack nappies and clothes for a premature baby, or just pack normal size ones and hope that the hospital will have enough mini ones for the first few hours to give DH time to pop out and get some? Am I thinking about this too much?

Hobnob - LOL at claudia schiffer comment, if only I had her legs - I am a complete hobbit with short stubby legs and a long torso!

Rachel DH and I are have the opposite characteristics to you and your DH with diy! We shared out some tasks early last year - I had to paint the walls in the hall (which is 12 metres long, so not a small job!), up the stairs, the landing, up the next stairs and the top landing (which is admittedly tiny, about 1m x 1m!), also the walls in the living room, dining room and one of the spare bedrooms. He had to paint the skirting boards, bannisters, and window & door frames in all those same rooms. I finished all mine back in the Autumn, whereas he is still going with his - he insists on sanding it all down first before re-painting! I have to admit it does look good, but it's taking waay too long!

Angel - shocked at your run-in with the dog, that must have been really traumatic. I hope you're ok now and not too shaken up by it. Thank goodness it was wearing a muzzle.

OP posts:
itshappenedagain · 10/03/2010 18:59

hello all!
just had a quick scan through all the post as i havent been on in a couple of days. loving the list/s and tips

angel glad your ok...where the hell was the owner when this was all happening?
MDM- ive packed my babg and am thinking about repacking it again, but am slightly strange about things like this. if you pack it now, just put in normal size baby stuff, dont worry about going early...my friend packed hers whilst in labour, she forgot lots!
*schipo- congrats on house move...very jealous of being able to oragnise everything for a certain time.
Lizzie- graet news that the placenta has moved, does that give you more birthing options?
hollyoaks- hope it turns out that these antibios work...i had a chest infection that wouldnt shift, was threatened with hospitl admition if last course didnt work...luckly they did...hope the same for you.

im half functioning today as i couldnt sleep last night, i was so restless, not helped by the fact LO's dad called at 2am ( he is in another country), to inform me he will be home next week, so should be able to cross the last item to buy (pram) off my list! just need the landlord to do the painting and i think i will be set. Ds wardrobe and bookcase arrive next friday a so can have lots of fun putting all baby clothes into the baby wardrobe, since i have washed and dryed them all, including all cot an moses basket bedding! and new cot mattress arrives on saturday. im now starting to enjoy things now that life is settling down. just have to get LO's dad to decide what he is dong regarding being involved, but dont want to get my heart set on anything yet.but if i think about things i get all worried and upset..no use to me really so just have to get on!

Ds is so excited and cannot wait for baby's arrival, have to wrap the present up from the baby and hide it ready to take to the hospital. and we are going to town at the weekend so he can choose a pressie for the baby.

sorry that post is all bout me!
hope i didnt miss anyone.

itshappenedagain · 10/03/2010 19:01

oh..meant to ask when are you meant to get measured for nursing bras? think i went to early last time and suffered for the first few weeks.

sweetkitty · 10/03/2010 20:35

Evening everyone, all this talk of washing baby clothes and packing hospital bags, I have done nothing, is it because I am a fourth timer?

re size of newborn clothes, I would just pack normal newborn sized ones, God forbid if you did deliver very early the baby would be in the SCBU so wouldn't need clothes. Newborn size will do for 5-6lbs plus.

Bawled my eyes out at OBEM last night as well, didn't that 17yo do really well?

hollyoaks - missed your thread about the cyst - ouch poor you, try not to worry (easy said I know). I read that ttc#2 thread as well and it is so true what everyone says your love doubes the minute the baby is born, I remember feeling the same about DD2 would I love her as much as DD1, and I did and the best thing I did was giving them each other they do adore each other (most of the time) and they are fab with DD3 too, DD2 was telling "boy baby" that she loves him tonight and he is to hurry up and come out

Lizzie - great news about the moving placenta

schipo - do you know why you cannot have a homebirth?

pigley - secondbirths nearly always easier and better than firsts try not to worry about it too much

MDM - what a lovely tiny bump you must have good abs (mine moved out for good about 4 years ago)

anangelwithin - what a terrifying experience hope you are not too shaken on your behalf]

30ish - I have heard with a CS you do bleed less, love the hoovering you out thing though I think it all depends where you deliver a friend was saying she got provided with everything at her hospital, ours you have to take everything in.

Gils - Love the Mummy milk story, my DDs give their dollies boobs too. You are right jaundice makes babies very sleepy, that's why I had such a hard time BFing DD1 at the start, she wouldn't wake up enough to feed. Even changing nappies/bathing her didn't work, the first night after she was born everyone else's babies were crying she was sleeping, we got out the next day and had to go back in for phototherapy and they were threatening to tube feed her at one point, I had to express and bottle feed her every 2h. Wasn't a great time.

itshappenedagain - you sound so organised, hope you get some decent sleep soon though, lack of sleep is a killer

littleowls · 10/03/2010 20:53

Just catching up on all messages for a couple of days has taken almost an hour! I do enjoy the conversations though.

The list is interesting, a few things that I wouldn't expect either. Enjoyed the discussion re clots and am a bit shocked that you have to 'save' them. I just hope i don't have any huge ones as I too won't know what to do with them.

MDM - neat bump!

angel - how horrible with the dog attack. I would get in touch with the RSPCA too, it is obviously a dangerous animal.

Can't properly remember everything...
scratching head.

Lizzie - good news about the placenta. It must be a relief.

Rachel - my DH is a painter and decorator so he has full control over this domain. The only problem is that he doesn't want to get in from work and do more decorating so things take longer to decorate usually. We need to start on our front room, which will need done soon.

Thanks for the suggestion re: dried fruit. I bought some packets of dried fruit today to put in my hospital bag.

Had another scan today. Doppler flow was fine, BP was normal (for me) and LO is head down, and has been for a few weeks now. Hopefully that is where it has decided to stay! I feel more positive this week about this and just think that if the growth scan was right, then it's just gonna be mini like me! Another growth scan is booked for next weds so I shall see then.

Have a good evening everyone. This has put in a couple of hours whilst DH watches the football. Think I'll go to bed and have a read x

pigleychez · 10/03/2010 21:06

Gills- re Jaundice. DD suffered from jaundice ans was very sleepy. Had lots of trouble trying to get her to feed and even when she did latch on she would only suck once before deciding she was too tired! She was under the phototherapy light for a couple of days and had to top her up with formula to get her better.

Angel-Hope your OK after the dog attack. What did the police say?

MDM- just pack newborn size. My friend was rushed in 3 weeks early and just put on newborn size and sent DH off to mothercare for tiny baby stuff. Her DD was 5lbs.
I have a tiny baby vest and sleepsuit that a friend sent me. She was given them by her friend. They are brand new as all our babies were born too big for them. ie 6-7lbs. As with DD, I will pack them just in case but doubt ill need them again.

Thanks for the replies- especially Memory. Think I just read too many horror stories last night. Not looking forward to the consultant tomorrow but hope to clear a few things up anyway.

Den26 · 10/03/2010 21:23

Evening all.

Pigley - thanks for the list - very helpful

Lizzie - Yey! re placenta moving!

MDM - the curtains are green and white with coloured felt dots and shapes on them?? Do you know the ones i mean? (possibly not a very good description!

hormonalmum · 10/03/2010 21:28

Just a quick update from me. Have been to the docs (well practice nurse) to see what they could give me for the pain. She would not give me anything as apparently everything causes the baby to possibly have problems with breathing.
I really do not know what to do as I cannot manage for the next 8 (possibly 10) weeks as I am. We do not have much help in the form of family / friends at the moment due to various reasons so cannot ask for help.

I have been in tears again tonight as my poor ds (only 2) kicked me when I was putting him in bed and I shouted at him as it hurt so much and the realisation I had that I am going to get even worse over the next few weeks. I feel awful for shouting at him.

I hope everyone else is doing better and sorry for the lack of personal responses.

rachelfruitloop · 10/03/2010 21:42

I have been sewing curtains for DS's bedroom whilst DH watches the footy tonight but I'm knackered now!

Lizzie I'm so glad to hear the placenta has moved, that is great news!

Angel how utterly terrifying about the dog attack!! I hope you got some relaxation today.

MDM you must have abs of steel, what a nice little bump! I am so amazed! I'm about ten times your size! Also, about the decorating, yes, I think I can have a similar tendency as your DH! I'm trying to adopt a new mantra: "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly" as I tend to take ages to even start projects if I can't do it thoroughly! Parenthood certainly changes that but I found it a very tough adjustment! But my version of "badly" is still better than what I was getting with the painting the other day!

Gils I love the story about your DD feeding the dollies! My mum tells a story about me taking one side of my dungarees down to "breast" my baby when I was 2 and she was expecting my DB. Used to embarrass me before I was a mum!

SK (and Gils) My DS was really sleepy with the jaundice too, especially after having the phototherapy. The night I had to keep him under the lamp and try to feed him every two hours was a really difficult time for me as well. The overnight midwives on the ward were most unhelpful. SK, how cute your DD is talking to the baby and telling him to hurry up and come out! My DS painted a picture of his baby brother at pre-school today and when I went to pick him up his key worker wondered if the baby had been born (!) and I explained that we'd been getting the nursery ready.

Itshappenedagain I think the advice I got last time was to wait until 36 weeks to be fitted for nursing bras, but I think I'll throw caution to the wind and try to get fitted soon, I am busting out of my current bras! I never went bigger than a C cup last time (but I have bug bites instead of boobs when not pregnant so that seemed huge to me!)

Littleowls glad to hear your scan went well today and that you're feeling positive about it! ISWYM about your DH not wanting to tackle the decorating at home!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has issues with the quality of work from DPs around the house! I have to say that my DH has redeemed himself somewhat today! The nursery is looking great, the carpet is fitted and DH put up the cot! Out of the blue he said "do you want to get a pram for the baby?" and I said "YES!" and he said "I've been looking at the Quinny Buzz ..." and we had a look to see if anyone is selling a second-hand one in our area and everything! We'll probably do a bit more research in the next few days. We were just going to use our Maclaren Techno XT for the baby as we did with DS, but I am so relieved he was thinking about it as well. DS just seemed too small in it at first. I am really that DH not only had an opinion but a definite preference about a pram!

I hope that everyone is feeling better/well and not too uncomfortable!

mustbemadno3 · 10/03/2010 21:50

hormonalmum so sorry your in pain, hope they can give you something, you cant carry on like that for 10 weeks. Im sure you didnt mean to shout at ds (we r all guilty of doing that!) Its just because you are in pain, hormonal and fed up no doubt. Try and sleep on it and im sure you will feel bit better in the morning.

thank you everyone for advise - spent 5 hrs down mau yesterday. Had lots of white bits in urine but apparently it was clear? But had internal and they have sent swabs off as I apparently have unusual amounts of white discharge ( sorry to be graphic) dr said thats y I feel leaky? Got to wait 5 days now see if its infection.
Feel really awful today, been shopping for dh birthday nearly all day. Think I may have over done it. I am struggling to walk properly everything is so low. Think I need to slow down abit, just feel its too early to put my feet up.... mind you I am 12 years older than I was with ds1!!!

hormonalmum · 10/03/2010 22:19

Meant to add, the Practice Nurse, said she would have to refer me to an obstetecian (sp??) for anything else and if I saw him / her then it is highly unlikely I would be able to have baby at home or even at the midwife led centre.

Mustbemad - yes you are right, I am fed up due to the pain and feeling hormonal. Just had some chocolate so do feel less cross with myself than I did.
Hope you feel better yourself very soon and that you have not got an infection.

kateyjane · 10/03/2010 22:54

Good evening everyone

Pigley - Hope all goes well tomorrow.

Angel - What an awful experience. I hope you are okay. I don't understand why people keep dogs that are so vicious, it shouldn't be allowed.

Hollyoaks - really feeling for you. I hope the antibiotics work, and that you are managing to get lots of rest.

SK - I am completely with you, I have nothing ready at all. Think it must be a fourth time thing

Littleowls - Glad your scan went well.

hormonalmum - would they not even give you codeine phosphate? As long as you are not taking more than 4 a day it shouldn't be a problem. Hope you are feeling some relief soon.

MDM - lovely neat bump. Am very jealous I don't have a bump at all, I just look a bit fatter - despite having lost a stone

Lizzie - congratulations on your plancenta moving. You must feel really relieved.

rachel - Very impressed with your DH - enjoy pram shopping

ML - I really feel for you. I hope all goes well tomorrow. It's the last thing you need with everything else as well. Have they given you any medication? I don't know how high your bile acids have to be in order to treat it? Anything over 14 is classed as OC. I've been on ursodeoxychloric acid 1000mg for about 4 weeks and my levels are still 38. I don't think it is always effective. Not that I want to get your hopes up because none of it has helped me at all in terms of itching and sleep unfortunately. Make sure they give you vit K tablets as well because OC increases the risk of excessive bleeding. I feel quite reassured that since OC was tested for and monitored the still birth rate in Britain has nearly halved. My consultant said that once identified you are so closely monitored the risks are practically the same as normal. I know you must feel so much more anxious considering your history - I really hope they are looking after you. I am thinking about you. Take care.

Really sorry if I have missed anyone. Also I really hope that Mollybob, Forces and Wibblela are all okay and doing well.

I am still struggling, averaging about 90mins sleep per night and a nap in the morning. Haven't worked for 5 weeks and only been out of the house for hospital appointments. So feeling really strange. Trying to be on form for the morning get up and bedtime routine so that my lovely DC's don't notice what a state I'm in. Feel so guilty. Anyway am not going to witter - am fed up of listening to myself, so goodness knows what everyone must think.
Fortunately my DH is being lovely and really supportive. Also all the scans so far have been fine and it's lovely to see the LO again.

Thinking about everyone - very very impressed with all the decorating and curtain and cushion making going on.

Has anyone had the 'How does the baby come out?' question from their DC's? My girls are fascinated. My 7 year old asked and my 4 year old confidently told her that the doctor puts magic on mummies tummy and the baby comes out. They were briefly happy with that explanation and I'm hoping I don't have to go into it any further

Enjoy the rest of the week - sorry for such a long post!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 11/03/2010 07:36

MDM - I'm 30+3 atm and would have packed my bag already except I'm going on holiday soon so don't want to have to empty out the bags and repack. I keep meaning to get it all in a pile/carrier bag somewhere though so at least I have it if something does happen. I wouldn't worry about packing prem stuff tbh, I'm sure there'd be a chance to get things if they were needed.

re OBEM - we watched it last night and cried at the 17yo old, she did so well! I thought her DP was pretty good as well, actually being useful and supportive unlike some of the others they've shown.

Hollyoaks - I love that thread about DC2, makes me very excited

Hormonalmum - so sorry you're in lots of pain I hope the obstetrician is a bit more helpful, the practice nurse doesn't sound very sympathetic.

Mustbemad - glad everything went OK at the MAU, hope you get the results soon and everything's OK.

Kateykane - you must be so exhausted, how long do you have to go?

Re decorating - DH is actually more careful than me but I get a bit annoyed because he takes so long to do something when it isn't always necessary.

I'm also hoping that Mollybob, Forces and Wibblela are all OK, I think we've been missing JamesandtheGiantBanana for a while as well.
