So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

kateyjane - you have my sympathies, I am on essential journies only now as well. Yes we have had the "how does the baby get out?" I have been quite honest with my two and told them there is a special passageway the baby comes through and the Mummy has to push it out and it hurts, DD2 then said "eugh does the baby come out covered in pee pee?" I said no. If I do end up with a HB they may hear things and I want to pre-empt them not to be scared.

hormonalmum - sorry you are in a lot of pain as well, it's a long 8-12 weeks ahead of us all but take it one day at a time, cross it off in your head thats what I am doing one day less of being pregnant.

Must dash off hope everyone else is OK

kateyjane · 11/03/2010 09:03

Twentiethcentury - A holiday sounds lovely, where are you going? I am 29+1 so still ages to go, but at the moment the consultant said they would probably induce me at 36 weeks, depending on my bile acid levels. So it probably won't be as long as it feels. Thank you for asking.

SK - I'm so sorry I meant to ask how you were doing. You completely have my sympathies, it is so hard to keep things going with 3 other little children when you feel so rough isn't it. Somebody on the pregnancy thread asked whether it was harder with a newborn or being pregnant when you have other children - I would say being pregnant is harder every time. Thank goodness it is so worth it You have explained the 'how does it come out?' question much better than me! Have you decided about a HB yet? I saw your thread about being induced. I have to admit that I'm glad in one sense that I will now definately be induced, purely from a planning point of view. I was induced with DD2 at 40+12 and it wasn't too bad an experience. Anyway, hope you have a good day

pigleychez · 11/03/2010 09:16

Kateyjane- DD is too young to ask about that yet (19mths) but I did catch her brain whirring the other day. An advert came on for OBEM and it was lots of shots of women screaming in labour then the babies crying and lots of shots of newborns. She watched it with interest, then turned and looked at my tummy, turned back to the Tv, then looked at me with a very concerned face.. It was classic!
Shes gets upset at others crying, even George from Peppa pig!

Hormonalmum- your in so much pain.

Feel sick here this morning, but think its more anxiety related for my appointment later.
DD was up at 1.30 this morning too so im shattered. Hope im not coming down with something too as ive a sore throat and come up with a coldsore which I get when im run down.

mustbemad- Hope the test results come back ok.

My SIL and BIL had a scare with thier baby at the weekend and had an emergency scan. Thankfully everything is fine Shes now 12 weeks and funnily enough their next scan is a few days before im due, so this one could already be here by then.

Rachel- Yay on the new pram

Hollyoaks · 11/03/2010 09:36

Hi all

Again thanks for the kind messages. Abs are containing infection but still no better. May have to take another week off work which actually makes me more stressed.

ML - hope it goes well at the hospital.

SK, Katey & Hormonal - sorry your in so much pain. I have no experience of spd but SK's suggestion of taking a day at a time seems like good advice.

Littleowls - good news on the scan

Mustbemad - hope your results give you some good news, I had swabs taken recently when I had the early contractions and their not nice.

30ish - hope your feeling ok and your appointment next week goes well.

Angel - what an awful experience , have you contacted the police?

On another note, I've been looking for a reasonably priced wardrobe for the nursery. It needs to be quite small as its a box room and preferably white or beech. Anyone got any ideas of a shop or online where we might get one?

Sorry if I've missed anyone.

kateyjane · 11/03/2010 10:07

Pigley - hope your appointment goes well, will be thinking about you.

Hollyoaks - sorry things are not getting any better. Just remember to put yourself first. I know how hard it is being off school - especially when you have to send all the lesson plans in anyway! Try not to be stressed about it and have a good rest. Take care.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 11/03/2010 10:18

Hollyoaks - we spent ages looking for wardrobes, you could try one of these: this or this from Ikea or this from Argos.

No time to post more now, hope all those in pain aren't suffering too much today. Will check in at lunchtime to read all the posts properly.

OP posts:
MarquiseDeMerteuil · 11/03/2010 10:21

Oops, meant to include this bargain Ikea one too.

itshappenedagain · 11/03/2010 11:35

morning all! can just about say that.

hormonalmum- surely they can send you to an obstitrician as an emergancy...i would just call up your antinatal clinic and book yourself in for appointment with medical disorders team.

hope everyone else is doing better this morning, if you have been feeling down/ill.

i had another sleepless night last night and feel awful this morning,k but have so much i want to get done, so cant just go back to bed when DS goes to nursery.

hollyoaks- ive just ordered Ds this wardrobe, buth they do so many and come and put it where you want it. not sure about colurs
also try mothercare, they do a very narrow one, or if short of space try a tall boy, least you have draw space too then.

Hobnobfanatic · 11/03/2010 11:40

Hi All
Sorry to hear that some of you are having a rough time. Not long now and we can all be back to normal once more!

A quickie - I think I'm going to try a sling (a wrap-around type one - wrap) this time round but have zilch experience. Can anyone recommend a good one? I can't get my head around how the hell the different positions work, but I'm sure practice will help.

Has anyone used one before? They look so much more comfy than the traditional Bjorn-type carriers.

Hobnobfanatic · 11/03/2010 11:43

Oh, and another question. There's a great, arty circus that we go to every two years. Baby will be about four weeks old - she'll just sleep or feed through it, wouldn't she? I'd hate to stay at home and miss it, and part of me thinks it will be good socialisation for the baby! Another part thinks it will be too noisy and I might spend most of the performance outside the tent, trying to calm her down.

What would you do?

pamelat · 11/03/2010 12:52

Hello all

MDM - I now feel HUGE! I looked like you at about 4 months preg.

Feeling quite hormonal today. DD been ill for most of the week so not been sleeping. She is on the mend but we are all catching up. Today she is quite fretful and my morning plans were cancelled at short notice. I thought we would have a nice day in together. Anyway she got grouchy and she scratched my face which is quite unlike her. This topped off a bad morning/week and I burst in to tears . I know you shouldnt let your children see you cry about silly things

She then cried and asked for her "daddy" so I gave her a big hug but feel guilty now about it. Feel like not coping very well with a toddler and being pregnant, so how on earth will I cope with a newborn and DD?!

DH has started a new job at work last week (after being made redundant 3 times in 3 years) so he cant be quite as supportive as he normally is, which I understand etc.

Baby wise (poor mite, he hardly gets a look in at the moment) no bags packed, cant even find my maternity notes! Am being kicked a lot and trying to remember when braxton hicks start? My tummy is going very hard in the evenings and much bigger somehow?!

mustbemadno3 · 11/03/2010 12:53

hobnobfanatic I would go, baby will be fine if it dos get too noisy you can always leave.

holyoaks swabs arent nice, but I never felt a thing this time....dos that mean its getting bigger down there!!! Hope it returns to normal hehe!

Just to say what an a...hole my dh was on the day I went to MAU. I called him to say they wanted me in and he said 'oh ring me when youve done' that was at 12p.m. At 4.30 I got a text from him telling me about his new website for his business Then at 6p.m I had one saying 'can you answer your phone as I dont know where the kids are?' Even though I told him the day before that they were at friends etc and wouldnt be home til 8 p.m.
Finally at 7p.m 'are you o.k and y are you not answering' My reply - I had a torch and metal rod up there and was bit difficult to reach my phone!

What a plonker, thinking of changing my birthing partner!

pigleychez · 11/03/2010 13:26

Hollyoaks- We have the Ikea Hensvik wardrobe for DD. Its surprisingly roomy.

Hobnob- Go to the circus but be prepared to wath from the back. We took DD to a big BBQ at a friends house at 4 weeks. It was far to busy and noisey for her, she was sooo craby! Nothing would settle her as she was over stimulated that we only lasted a few hours there.

Pamlet- Dont feel bad. In some ways its good for her to know that she hurt you.

Mustbemad- Loving your reply back to DH

Just returned from the hospital. The nurse tested my sample before the appointment and instantly read 4+ of glucose. My heart sank... this week ive been trying really hard to cut right down on my sugar. Felt like I could cry!
Anyway waited for ages to see the consultant convienced it def meant GD and id have to have Insulin.
Consultant agreed that Yes, I have been getting very high levels in my sample but she personally wasnt concerned about the GTT results. Said shes happy if they are under 9.
She has said if my samples keep coming back high then they would repeat the GTT at 34 weeks and re-assess.
Ive just had a large glass of milkshake. Its been a craving and its killed me seeing it in the cupboard not being allowed to have it!
I get 3.5 weeks off now before i start stressing again!

LuckyC · 11/03/2010 13:52

Hi all

Sorry to just drop in with a question - have been lurking though so just about keeping up.

Posted this on pregnancy thread too but definitely would like your expert opinions:

I am 32 weeks and my bump (sometimes also lower back) is really sore, achey: like indigestion sore. Also hurts when the baby moves. Ow.

Has been going on for a couple of days and was bad enough to wake me up last night.

I have flu and am coughing and sneezing - so maybe that has done something? I definitely have pulled a muscle in belly, but the achey/sore feeling is different to that. Could of course be indigestion (as a reaction to the antibiotics? Erythramyacin (sp.)).

Can't think what else it could be. Anyone know about this, had this, have any thoughts?

Thanks v much.

kateyjane · 11/03/2010 14:36

Good afternoon everyone

Hobnob - About slings. This is the only thing I have bought so far. Having never had one before, my friend came to visit with her 5 month old. (She lives in Italy) and I loved her sling. Her DD looked so comfortable in it. Basically it is a long piece of very supportive and soft material that can be used in various positions, both on your front, then on your back when they are a lot older. I asked where she had got it and she'd ordered it from a lady who had her in business in Huddersfield! I ordered one on Saturday and it arrived yesterday. I love it! It only cost £24.95 (£28 with P+P) compared to the £50+ ones I'd looked at in the shops. I'm really happy with it and it's much softer and more adaptable than some of the shop ones I've seen. It comes with instructions, but I think it will take me a while to get my head round it. Sorry I'm not good with computers but will try to do a link - hope it works. It's www.sabebabywear.com I think there are various e-bay companies as well. Sorry I sound like I work for them don't I. Was just very excited to get my first baby purchase

Pigley - Glad it went well today - enjoy your milkshake

Pamelat - Sorry you've had a bad day. I think it's much easier with a newborn and a toddler than it is being pregnant. Hope you have a better afternoon.

Mustbemad - Fantastic response to your Dh, hope he was suitably apologetic.

LuckyC - I'm sorry I have no experience to tell you about, but you have my sympathy and I really hope you start to feel better soon.

ML - Hope your appointment has gone well.

Have a good Thursday everyone else - remember it is Friday Eve

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 11/03/2010 14:43

Den - I know the curtains you mean! We nearly got those but decided at the last minute to change to different ones in the same range.

Pigley - glad they were happy with your glucose results and that you get a few weeks' reprieve!

MBM love your reply to your DH! Poor guy was probably worried sick when you weren't answering your phone. Think I need to give mine a bit of a scare like that - he's so rubbish at checking his phone and charging it - yesterday he called and said he'd had a missed call from me and was I ok? I pointed out that the missed call was actually from Monday evening. Can't believe he hadn't checked his phone since then! I could probably go into labour while he's out and about and him not realise for about 2 days!

Pamelat, Hormonal and others coping with toddlers while pregnant, I don't know how you do it, you all deserve a medal or a holiday or something.

Thanks Heffa, Happenedagain and others for your comments about the hospital bag. Think I will start getting some bits and pieces together this weekend, buy some nappies, pads, nipple cream etc. and maybe go on the hunt for a nice changing bag, which I can use to put the baby stuff in for the hospital, as haven't got one of those yet. I'm so fussy about bags, though, am bound to have trouble finding one I like!

Happenedagain - great news about getting the pram crossed off the list at last - even if LO's dad did call at 2am to tell you!

Nursing Bras - was planning to go and get measured when i'm on maternity leave (will be 38 weeks then, which is when our ante-natal teacher suggested is the best time) as apparently they tend to put on a growth spurt in the last couple of weeks.

Our nursery furniture is meant to be arriving next week, am on tenterhooks waiting for the delivery people to call with a date! Can't wait to get it all put together and arrange it in the room, then tidy all the little sleep suits and vests away.

OP posts:
TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 11/03/2010 16:06

Kateyjane - we're going to the Highlands. We go every year around Easter time but had to move this year's week to being even earlier because otherwise I'd have been about 37 weeks and we thought that might be a bit unwise! Can't wait to go but it is 11 hours in the car which won't be fun. I'm glad you don't have too long to go if they're going to induce you, the OC sounds like hell.

Hobnobfanatic - circus sounds like fun. It should be fine, although you never can predict how they'll react IME. I've ordered myself a Sleepy Wrap after reading some positive comments on MN about it. It was £33.99 or something from b2boutique.com and arrived pretty quickly so happy so far. Haven't had an opportunity to try it though.

Pamelat - sorry you're having such a tough time, I hope things get easier for you soon.

Mustbemad - at your DH! Loving your response.

Pigley - glad your appointment went OK and there's no problem with your glucose results. Enjoy relaxing

sweetkitty · 11/03/2010 16:30

kateyjane - thanks you sound like you are having a harder time than me though. I completely agree being pregnant is much harder than having a newborn IME. OK so you get the sleep deprivation part but for me I'm no longer in pain and can actually move. My mantra just now is "last time ever"

I still don't know what to do re the induction thing, half of me likes the planned thing, half of me thinks no better to go yourself. Driving me crazy.

at all this talk about wardrobes, maybe with a bit of luck this time next year this LO may have a room of his own, have already told DP I am furnishing the new extension rooms entirely from Ikea as we have some nice wooden furniture just now that has been scored, chipped and well wrecked since having the DDs.

Hobnob - I have had a Babybjorm sling, a Coorie and a Close last time, the Close one was quite good but a faff. Am looking at some others this time, haven't quite got round to deciding which one to go for yet. I would go to the circus, newborns sleep through anything IME and you can always take them out if it gets too noisy.

pamelat - hope you and your DD are both feeling better

mustbemad - hope DH is appropriately grovelly today, here's one from my DP the other day, so we are going upstairs to bed and I am in front of him, one stair at a time, leaning on both banisters, taking a while and he says "Oh SK just let me overtake you" I was thanks for the sympathy! He also says things like by the time you get upstairs to bed it will be time to get up! He is very good at doing everything but sometimes the lack of empathy well is lacking.

pigley - try not to worry about things, as you say you have 3 1/2 weeks to wait now.

MDM - don't want to scare you but I thought I would do the same and wait until I was on mat leave before getting my bras, DD1 turned up early and I didn't have any, we had to stop by Mothercare on the way home from hospital to get essentials I kid you not.

I have a couple of these sleeping bras, they only come in back sizes so you can just get a 34, 36 etc and they are great for the first few days when you are huge and don't know your size as well. Remember your back will go abck to your pre-pregnancy size as soon as the bump has gone, with those bras though I would still order the size up as they are quite tight and the last thing you want is anything tight against you http://www.figleaves.com/uk/product.asp?product=Emma-Jane-NursingSleep-bra&product_id=EJ-37100&size= &colour=White sleep bras

sweetkitty · 11/03/2010 16:34

Try that link again

bras

Also check out the nice underwired nursing bras in bigger sizes too

Hollyoaks · 11/03/2010 17:58

Hi all, thanks for the links and tips on wardrobes. We were ideally looking for a three-quarter height one so it doesn't block too much of the window as the room is really small.

Bras - I found my biggest maternity bras were fine for the first few days after birth though I was advised to wear two at a time to minimised the growth. Not sure if it helped but I don't remember being in too much pain with them though they were huge.

Pigley - good news on your results.

heffa - enjoy the highlands, hope you get some decent weather.

LuckyC - water infection? Not sure apart from that, sorry.

myfirstbump · 12/03/2010 08:24

Morning all!

I posted yesterday but now I can't see it

Pigley That's great news. Glad it all went well! Enjoy the next 3 weeks not worrying.

MDM of your neat bump! I feel like a moose in comparison. We had a photo done at work the other day as we've got three mums-to-be in the office and one has just started her ML. I'll have to crop myself out and post it.

Ooh, and our furniture arrives next week too. Have to decorate though, very quickly. Quick straw poll: what colour for the walls - beigey-brown or pale green? We've been bought bedding from the ziggy range in next and either colour will go, but we can't make a decision about which one!

Hobnob - I tried a sling on at the baby show a couple of weeks ago, but I can't think of the name now. Will dig it out at home later. It was really easy to do though, and I also liked that you can scooch the baby round to breastfeed and they stay hidden in the wrapping. Will come back with the name, but it seemed good value.

Heffa - you've got me thinking now... We've been invited to a wedding in Aberdeen when I'll be 36 weeks. We were going to go, with lots of rest stops, but now I'm thinking it's too close...

Hope everyone has a nice Friday! Weekend's nearly here!

itshappenedagain · 12/03/2010 10:32

morning all!

myfirstbump id say the green, more of a calming colour.

another terrible night...am suspecting that it could be to do with my hayfever tnad the tree pollen, so think i will ask consultant at next appointment if i can take my antihistamines now im past a certain stage. as if i dont get sleep soon i'll be admitted anyway!

anyway the sun is shining...although it's a bit cold, so wil continue the big clean!

hope everyone is well this morning.

memorylapse · 12/03/2010 10:41

luckyc..it sounds like you probably pulled a muscle..but I would speak to your midwife.

Sorry to hear that some of you are in pain/not sleeping etc...same here..the end is in sight though!..I do agree though..having a newborn is easier..at least i can walk properly etc,

went to DAU..CTG fine although baby was asleep so had to drink some cold water to wake her up as they like to see a reactive CTG.
bile acids came back at 6...which is normal..so theyve just told me to keep an eye on the itching and they will re test next weds at clinic....saw the girl who had her baby at 24 weeks last time I was in..hes a month old now and doing great..they are going to take him off the ventilator.

Im having my bump painted today and my photographer friend is doing some pro photos..Im quite excited

LuckyC · 12/03/2010 10:51

Hello all. This is top info about slings and bras - cheers - am keeping it all in a baby file.

My stomach cramps - it IS a reaction to the bloody erythromyocin, which I still cannot spell. Went to see docs and she initially thought I had might be starting labour - D&V, hard, visible cramps, back pain... Had not occurred to me so I was . NEVER taking it again. Three days to bloody go. Feel like I am poisoning self.

To continue litany of complaints, I feel like I am now finally emerging from Worst Month Ever. DH has had some horrific family stuff to cope with, include MIL behaving appallingly (IMO) like calling him and screaming down the phone and sobbing hysterically (!!!) because she wants us to take HER MAIDEN NAME as our surname (!!!) and not him to take my name (but she is also under other strains.) Never seen DH so upset. And I need him too! Have been sick for nearly a month now, housebound when not bedbound, and have been feeling like am at breaking point. But am trying to support him and cannot ask for the support I need while he is under such strain.

Anyway, I wrote a very long and cathartic letter - very much like this one, sorry! - to SIL, saying exactly how I felt. And am simply going to refuse to let them treat DH this way any more - he needs love and support from them now, and we need some good solid time together before the baby comes, some time we can draw on come May when the sleep deprivation is making us want to kill each other. Not putting up with any more crap at this stage of our first pregnancy! So, while I am still ill (and as you can see quite self-obsessed), I am feeling calmer and more together and positive.

whew - right - have good weekends and some sun all, and I am keeping an eye on your news and am sorry not to be more personal.

memorylapse · 12/03/2010 11:34

Luckyc..erythromycin is bloody awful stuff Im violently allergic to it..lots of people are...can they not swap you to amoxycillin..not good for you or baby to have cramps, tummy upset etc..

re your MIL..you use which ever surname you like..if she is giving you grief..can you not scree your calls so you dont have to speak to her at the mo..its an added pressure you could do without
