Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
esselle · 26/02/2010 11:09

Hooray to everyone and their lovely babies! I have at last joined the club!

I was finally induced on Tuesday at 41wks. I had my first cx at 10:05 and delivered at 12:01pm. No time for painkillers or epidural! I was mighty loud and shouty!!

My beautiful Sam David weighed 7lb 9oz, 51cm long and absolutely perfect in every way. He is feeding well and very calm. I just need to sort out his time clock which is around the wrong way!!

I am feeling pretty good too - a bit tired thought!

scoobyd00 · 26/02/2010 11:19

Just come back from reflexoology to see if that helps with induction. Still feeling good with no major signs of imminent arrival. I'm 40 + 4 today with a sweep booked in for tomorrow. If it works, no doubt the baby will try and arrive right in the middle of the 6 Nations games!

Congratulations on the new arrivals. The way I'm feeling I think I'll be having a March baby. Thank goodness it's not a leap year this year!

Mawbroon - are things progressing? How's the ankle feeling through all of this?

mawbroon · 26/02/2010 11:41

Things are not progressing at all Scooby.

I had a bit of a disturbed night, thought my waters had broken, but it was just a watery pink show.

Just had a lovely nap while ds is at nursery.

ClimberChick · 26/02/2010 12:37

I hope everyone is holding on O.K. I spent yesterday just watching my due date casually pass me by, though I always thought that the original date of 1 March was more realistic.

LOL at the dreaming about having a show. I woke up in the night thinking i was having contractions, turns out i just needed the loo (for the fifth time) and have a cold/sore throat (hence the pain). Consequently, I'm hoping the baby will be delayed until I'm over the worse of it. As I have asthma, colds always knock me out and I am worried about the whole breathing thing anyway (I struggle when attempting to breather in a regular manner). It also means that I'm not going to the bumps and baby group today as I would feel guilty if I gave a newborn the lurgy.

Well good luck everyone (apologies for the feel sorry for myself rant), we can see who has the latest baby (and how many of those March people have theirs before we do, grrrr)

HappySurfWidow · 26/02/2010 13:36

Congrats esselle on joining the new-mums' club!

Poor you, mawbroon! I hope it's not too much longer for you till things kick off (although enough for you to get a few more refreshing naps in!!). LOL at showing your DH the "slug"... Mine would be FAR from impressed if I did the same!

Just back from 2nd "overdue" hospital appointment (now 41+5) and still got the green light to hang about for LO to decide to make a break for it! Cervix improving but still not enough for a sweep... Boo!

At least I can enjoy the nice sunny weather we have here today & the rugby tomorrow. Got to keep positive, huh?

Due back at hospital for another check-up on Sunday morning. If things still fine, then won't be induced till Tues (will be 42+2.... how pregnant is THAT!???).

I think I might actually be more elephant than human!!

I was pretty down about being so overdue yesterday, but today I'm feeling much butter. Mind you, the zillion texts & FB messages a day asking for news are still so tiresome & annoying!

God, why do people feel it's OK to ask "How dilated are you?"... as if I ask them how many kilos of fat they've lost this week?". Maybe I'm being too sensitive about the fact that I'm still at 1cm... But still!! hmmm

And while I'm having a quick rant... how is it helpful or encouraging to say "OMG, you're STILL pregnant?? My friend was due next weekend/ March and she's had her baby already!!". F**king A for her then!

Some people.....Or is it me & my pregnant hormones?... but grrrrr all the same!

Otherwise, am feeling quite cheery and wish you all a great weekend, babies-in-tow or not! x

InmaculadaConcepcion · 26/02/2010 13:43

Three cheers to TheOldestCat and esselle, well done ladies!

Get well soon, ClimberChick

mawbroon · 26/02/2010 13:51

Thing about my DH happysurfwidow, is that if I told him my plug had come out, he would question me as to what it looked like, and how could I possibly know it was my plug etc etc etc.

So I thought the easiest thing was to keep it for him to see for himself. It happened just 10 mins before he was due home, so it wasn't like a shrivelled old pile of mucus by the time he got home. I also gave him the choice. My plug has come out, and I've put it in this place. If you want to look at then fine, if you don't then I will flush it away. He chose to look and then moaned it was minging. FFS.

There is bugger all happening now. The twinges have stopped and I just feel fed up. I wish I could go for a nice long walk, or do some housework or something, but it's pretty hard with my ankle the way it is just now.

DS was disappointed to wake up and find he still had no brother this morning.

tinkerbug · 26/02/2010 14:13

Congratulations to all the new mummies and babies

Had a pretty crappy time at the hospital yesterday... had to wait almost 3 hours for the doctor to see me (she was "running behind"). Am hoping this is not an omen for medical attention at Queen Charlotte's... Then she said that my cervix was "not at all soft" and was pointing backwards but she did a bit of a stretch anyway. That hurt a bit. She was really quite sure that I'd have to have an induction, so am booked in for when I'm 40+12, then if it doesn't work I can try again without having to go for a c-section.
After I left the appointment was really upset, she just seemed so convinced that I'll never go into labour naturally. And now am getting lots of texts along the lines of going for walks and eating pineapple...all of which am already doing....

Anyway, sorry for the rant, feels better to talk about it though!

AbsB · 26/02/2010 16:15

Just back from Queen Charlotte's after seeing the consultant. I'm booked in for a sweep next Tuesday, and failing that next Thursday, and if nothing happens then, then inpatient induction booked for the 8th of March, so into the night before. Hope it doesn't come to that though

I also have an early acupuncture appointment tomorrow morning to see if I can get this baby out, although with all that cold wind I can't really blame LO for wanting to stay in .

Good luck to those of you on the verge and BIG CONGRATS to the new arrivals! Well done!

mawbroon · 27/02/2010 08:33

Still here. Feck all happening except more of these annoying short and not sore contractions. Got woken every 15 mins from 3.30am but now they have stopped.

And we have 2" snow here which means it will take ages to get to the hospital unless they have gritted the roads. Ha ha

midnightsun · 27/02/2010 08:38

Quick fly-by update: baby Leo was born 23 Feb, we're doing very well and my DS is a proud big brother. Leo came out shouting and for the first 36 hours would only stop to nurse so BF is already well established and milk supply is good although nipples very sore!

He ended up exiting not by VBAC but 'unplanned' elective section on the day when a 41 week check-up scan (to determine if he was breech or head down) showed worryingly low levels of amniotic fluid and CTG showed an inactive baby. The consultant (my first meeting with a consultant all pregnancy) thought my chances of an unproblematic birth were less than 50/50 on the basis of my history.

Baby perked up with activity on the CTG after the c-section decision was made (typical) so the obstetrician who came on duty tried to persuade me to go for an induced trial of labour. But my cervix was high, hard and unripe and baby's head nowhere near engaged so I said thanks but no thanks and prepared for theatre later that evening.

Am happy with how it turned out. First day post-op was just as hideous as first time (emergency section following long labour) but subsequent recovery is ten times better, I can't even compare how well I feel now (day 4) with how wrecked I was then.

Congrats to everyone with new arrivals and good luck and lots of patience to those on the final waiting home run... Nobody has very long to wait now.

AbsB · 27/02/2010 08:41

Oh Mawbroon was thinking about you just now and wondering if you were still here! I'm sure you're nearly there...

Went all out on the trying to get the baby out yesterday... nipple tweaking, blowjob, comedy night at the Hammersmith Apollo, spicy curry, a beer, more nipple tweaking... and zilch! Nothing! I'm 40 + 3... I really want to avoid that induction!

Oh well, off for a long walk now... will I really have to join the March thread where they've already started having babies

Groundhog day!

AbsB · 27/02/2010 08:43

Sorry our posts crossed...Big CONGRATS midnightsun and welcome LEO!!!

mawbroon · 27/02/2010 09:20

Congratulations midnightsun. Welcome to Leo.

ABs - I've already joined the march thread. There's more of them on there obviously so it doesn't feel like talking to yourself so much.

It is my official due date today, so chances of baby actually arriving are very slim.....

InmaculadaConcepcion · 27/02/2010 09:52

Good news, midnightsun! Congratulations!

just a reminder...

scoobyd00 · 27/02/2010 10:29

40+5 today. had a sweep this morning which wasn't very effective as cervix was too posterior.
Cervix is thinning though so baby at least is getting ready to come out! Booked in for another sweep on Monday. Lots of rugby to watch today to keep me busy and a long walk with the dog.

How's everyone else doing?

Congratulations midnightsun.

threeplusone · 27/02/2010 22:41

JUstn popping in quickly to say congratulations to the new mammies, and sending lots of goodluck and labour vibes to thiose still waiting xx See you on the postnatal thread soon.. xx

stoofadoof · 28/02/2010 07:54

sorry, just heading for bed but thought i'd check in? congratulations to everyone that's delivered and good luck to those still waiting!

Finlay Brady (after my da) was delivered by semi-acute section on 25th Feb? 8lb10 which stunned all 8 of the theatre staff who all had money on over 9lb! no sleep the last couple of days cos he's been feeding constantly, so hoping milk comes in tonight.. home today which is brill, and like midnightsun recovery going well (better than the emcs last time), apart from i've developed a sensitivity to the dressings so consequently my wound is surrounded by blisters that itch like , i also have a small patch of them on my back where the spinal went in - at least i can't scratch those ones so easily though! ergh? desperately trying to keep it all clean!

hopefully catch up more fully in the next few days! night all!

AbsB · 28/02/2010 08:19

Congrats Stoofadoof, really sweet name! Good weight too! Good luck with your recovery...

Nothing doing. This baby is staying put and it looks like I'm going to have to join the March thread and get to know everyone on there!

Really uncomfortable night, lots of pains and cramps and thought something might be happening at 2 am... went back to sleep and again it's GROUNDHOG DAY!

Hope all you ladies enjoy what looks like a very wet and windy Sunday!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 28/02/2010 09:58

Hoorah for Stoofadoof and little Finlay!

Hope the itching clears up soon, poor you!

Now, now Abs, due Feb is due Feb, even if the baby has other ideas (!)

If you're feeling lonely in late pregnancy, I'm sure we won't mind if you come and chat about it on the pn thread (but you're definitely not the only one still waiting!)

Good luck, ladies still hanging on!

galadriel77 · 28/02/2010 11:05

Congratulations to all the new mummies and sending good luck and labour vibes to those still waiting.

Keep meaning to come on here more since baby was born on the 9th Feb but Elizabeth is a dreadful sleeper at night - I got a grand total of 2 hours sleep last night. And I can't nap during the day as I have other children to look after. It's a nightmare and I am so tired that I would eat my own arm for more than a few hours of sleep at a time!

Anyway - it took us a week to decide on a name but we have gone with Elizabeth Poppy. I'm trying to enjoy the baby times as it's my last one but I'm finding it tough with the lack of sleep - I know it will get better with time but it's so hard at the moment!

MidgetGems · 28/02/2010 16:50

I completely agree with you Abs about groundhog day! Every night I go to bed and truely think that she is on her way then ...nothing. And with each day she just gets bigger...!!! Ah well another week at most - I'm going to bake cakes.

blonde36er · 28/02/2010 18:56

No word from Mawbroon on here or on the March AN thread...

mawbroon · 28/02/2010 19:59

No word from mawbroon because I have been in no fit state I'm afraid.

Late last night (was last night Saturday?) I started having regular contractions. They got to 5 mins apart so we went to the hospital where everything ground to a halt and I was told that i was only dilated enough for a fingertip. We got home around 2am and I managed to get a bit of sleep.

I woke again at 5am and things were going well. I was contracting every 3 mins for over a minute each time. This went on for an hour, so thought we should get back to the hospital. Was monitored, temp, blood pressure etc. Then once again, it all stopped. At least I was 2cm at this stage. We stayed at the hospital for 4.5hrs and nothing. Absolutely bloody nothing, so we decided to go home again because we were both really tired.

I managed to get some sleep this afternoon (under the influence of dihydrocodeine) and then all of a sudden I felt sick, faint, dizzy, shaky, hot, cold. Just awful all over basically, and with a really sore pain in my back. I had something to eat and drink and have just had a sleep, but have had no contractions (just a couple of twinges) for hours and hours now.

DS is with granny tonight, so at least if it all kicks off again then I don't need to worry about him.

I saw the doc at the hospital, and she suggested that if things don't get moving in the next 48hrs then it might be an idea to break my waters. However, once my waters are broken, there is kind of a time limit to get the baby out, so they would do a section if no joy.

So, I have no idea why things are so stop/start. It could well be that this is the best my bi cornuate uterus can do. It's not uncommon for them to be rubbish at contracting.

Sorry for the essay. Hope everyone else is ok.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 28/02/2010 20:06

Congrats, Galadriel on the little addition to your brood! Sorry to hear about the lack of sleep, no wonder you feel so frazzled. Hope it improves soon x
