Still here.... Only 39+4 so shouldn't be complaining by rights.

We have some quite heavy snow this morning. Probably about a couple of inches lying in the garden. It will be enough for the traffic to grind to a halt, so hopefully I won't go into labour today as the 15min journey to hospital will probably take an hour.

I have started reading one of Ina May's childbirth books. Have to speed read to get it all in before I go into labour!! I tried reading birth books before, but couldn't really concentrate as had no idea if I was going to have another cs or not. Anybody read any of her stuff? It sounds great, but sadly, I don't think the midwives here are going to be telling me they love me and massaging my perenium with oil as the baby crowns. But I have found some stuff in there that I will store in my brain for the labour when the time comes.

TheOldestCat · 24/02/2010 13:37

Sorry to hear that Fluffy - sending you good labour vibes!

Just back from an attempted sweep - unfortunately the lovely midwife couldn't really do it as my cervix points backwards and in on itself. This may be why I had such a long labour with DD. So I'm booked in for induction next Tuesday. Still a chance of a homebirth then - c'mon body, get contracting...

Mawbroon - have also read some Ina May. A lot of it is great (love the bit about sphincter muscles, not being tense in your jaw etc) but the bit about orgasmic birth had me It's all interesting stuff though!

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 24/02/2010 15:09

hello ladies!

Baby Henry 7lb 14oz arrived 40weeks +5 on Friday.

First contraction at 3pm, needed to push at 3:30pm, got in a panic, called DH and mum, pushed in the car, head crowning in the reception of anti natal, waters all over the floor, made it to the 3rd floor where he popped out at 4:08pm!

Pain was horrible, no chance of pain relief or antibiotics for step b, but after a 4 day stay in nicu we are home and coping! Toddler a bit intense but Henry is sooooooooooooo ease! Give me 3 newborns anyday, toddlers are HARD!!!

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 24/02/2010 15:12

oh and just a tip.....get your after birth clothes ready in a separate bag, pads/towels stuck in your pants, I fainted afterwards and taking a shower was hard work! Make life as easy as you can!

mawbroon · 24/02/2010 16:24

OMG no wonder you fainted marypoppins!!! Just over and hour from start to finish

Congratulations

stoofadoof · 24/02/2010 18:43

marypoppins congratulations! looks like you'll be taking the 'speediest delivery' title for Feb! blimey

well? i'm still here, so have just had brekkie and now nil by mouth before section this afternoon? mw has just texted to say she'll see us at the hosp later - been up all night delivering, so off for some sleep before round 2 with me!

am now 41+4 and should have a baby later! (one way or another, though it looks more likely to be the section!)

mawbroon i read IM's guide to childbirth too - really helped me get my head in a more positive place after last time.. i was dubious, but it did actually help me, though like theoldestcat there are a few bits i'm about!

well, good luck all - it seems unlikely i'll be around to post for a few days! hope theres lots of good, positive news for me to catch up on when i get back!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/02/2010 19:53

Congratulations marypoppins

and

Good Luck stoofa

TheOldestCat · 24/02/2010 19:58

Congrats marypoppins! What a speedy type Henry proved to be.

Good luck to you stoofadoof; hope to hear some news soon.

bethylou · 24/02/2010 22:02

Just popping over to say well done to all the new mummies and babies since I mosied on over to the postnatal thread last week and good luck ot those of you still waiting. Look forward to seeing you all over there soon. If any of you end up delivering in March can we keep you on our thread as we've all got to know you? Good luck!

mawbroon · 25/02/2010 08:56

Just before bed last night, I had a teeny pink show then I had lots of BHs during the night.

DS is predicting that the baby will be born by 8pm tonight.

I think it could still be days and days yet....

FluffyCoo · 25/02/2010 09:39

Best of luck Stoof and congratulations to marypoppins - sounds like a crazy delivery, glad you're OK!

Mawbroon! Although these little monsters do like to tease us don't they? Thought I was going into labour spontaneously last night, but no such luck unfortunately - am heading into hospital after lunch. Hopefully the next time I post it will be a birth announcement!

Lots of good labour vibes to all others still waiting!

MidgetGems · 25/02/2010 11:42

Hello ladies and congratulations to all those who have their little bundles! I'm still waiting (though only due yesterday so can't really complain!) and hope she comes soon as I'm getting bored and far to addicted to online shopping!

AbsB · 25/02/2010 12:05

Due today and really hoping the baby shows up soon... I know I shouldn't complain but I want to meet him/her! Congrats to all the new arrivals and good luck Mawbroon, I dreamt I had a show last night which isn't quite the same thing , you deserve an easy time of it now!

TheOldestCat · 25/02/2010 12:54

Sounds promising Mawbroon - fingers crossed!

Fluffy - hope all goes well this afternoon at the hospital; thinking of you.

MidgetGems and Abs - won't be long, I'm sure.

Well, I had a show this morning and am now having contractions every ten minutes or so. They aren't dreadfully painful but getting more intense. Will give the birth centre a call shortly (am booked in for a homebirth and need to let them know), but with DD it took four days from this stage so I bet it will be a while yet.

Have good days all.

blonde36er · 25/02/2010 13:51

The Oldest Cat - how exciting! Hope all goes well

Am 40 weeks today, don't think I've ever been so popular with emails and texts asking if I've had any twinges, I've pinched the www.haveyouhadthatbabyyet.com link for my own fb status, hopefully people will get the hint soon enough!

Saw the mw yesterday (never seen the same one twice) and discussed sweep next Thursday, she said that we'd book an induction date then for 40+10 or I could push for 40+14...was quite clear that unless there was a problem then 40+14 would be the earliest I'd consider it. She didn't mention anything about expectant management which all being well would be my preferred route, and to wait until maybe 43 weeks for induction...have been planning a HB so induction would put paid to that. If a 'normal' pregnancy can be up to 42 weeks, then I don't understand why they'd induce before that was up?! Will chat with whoever turns up next week...DH won't be here thinking I'm just being bolsy

mawbroon · 25/02/2010 14:25

ooooh, more pink stuff. But no BHs or contractions....

Good luck TheOldestCat.

mawbroon · 25/02/2010 16:01

Hmmm, these "braxton hicks" are happening every 15 mins now....

But they are not sore. Certainly not even as sore as period pains.

So they can't be contractions, right?

Have written my birth plan just in case.

mawbroon · 25/02/2010 16:01

Tried to check my cervix earlier. I am quite familiar with it from ttc.

But I can't bloody reach round my bump!!! LOL

AbsB · 25/02/2010 17:01

Wow Mawbroon Good Luck! Being a first timer I have absolutely NO ADVICE but really wish you all the best...

You too theoldestcat!

DP is making ten tonnes of veggie shepherd's pie to freeze tonight so we have something nice when we get out of hospital! I'm having all sorts of pains but nothing seems like a recognisable contraction so probably nothing...

Feeling positive about the birth though!

mawbroon · 25/02/2010 17:36

My plug has just come out!

It is the size of a slug.

Dh is due home from work soon. I have kept it for him to see. LOL, nice surprise for him eh?

InmaculadaConcepcion · 25/02/2010 17:54
Grin
mawbroon · 25/02/2010 19:49

Still here. Have put ds to bed and warned him that the baby might come in the night, so granny and grandad could be there in the morning....

Having regular tightenings, but they are not sore at all, just a little uncomfortable. Nowhere near as sore as period pains.

I fear I may have got a little excited a bit too soon.

And I have 17 mins to deliver for ds's prediction to come true.....

DH is away out for a chinese takeaway (big treat, we rarely have takeaways) so I had better get to eat the damned thing!!!!

He wasn't overly impressed with the mucus plug btw...

blonde36er · 26/02/2010 09:45

at the thought of a sluggy plug being kept for manly viewing!!

Hopefully things are either in full swing for you now, or even better, all done and dusted and you're holding your lovely new baby

TheOldestCat · 26/02/2010 10:21

Good luck, mawbroon!

Some news here - our baby boy Eoin Neil James arrived last night. He was born at home (god bless you, Faversham and Herne Bay midwives), weighing 9lbs2.5oz. We're all doing well.

Hope to hear good news very soon from those still waiting!

blonde36er · 26/02/2010 10:41

Congratulations TheOldestCat! What a lovely name - and nice healthy weight as well!

Hopefully not too much longer for the rest of us!
