...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Chance - missed your last post there.

Pixie's getting her early scan cause she was getting a lot of pain last week. (I think it was last week?) I got mine cause I was in hospital, very sick. I think the others paid privitely for theirs. But I'd say it's worth you asking your doctor yourself, cause it sounds like you have grounds to be more concerned than most. Lay it on thick - tell them how much you're stressing about it. They might have sympathy!

addie81 · 02/02/2010 21:25

thanks whiteroses - pleased to hear that you are on the mend. I too am eating in the middle of the night - its ginger biscuits for me! I agree that not eating is definitely the worse thing to do - its crucial to keep eating even though the thought of it is so hideous!!
Chance - I have booked in for an early private scan on 22 February. Unless you can persuade the NHS to give you one then you will have to pay. The earliest they can scan you is 7 weeks - I don't think there is anything much they can see before you get to about 7 weeks. Although we are having to pay, I have found a place to get it done for £65, which seems to me to be a total bargain given how much worry it might save! I cheered myself up today by hammering my credit card on seraphine.com - gorgeous maternity wear. I won't need any of it for weeks, but it was nice to spend some time thinking about having a bump and then a baby, instead of whether or not I am going to vomit!

addie81 · 02/02/2010 21:30

I just thought of another thing I have been meaning to ask you all - have you guys had the swine flu vaccine?

Ozziegirly · 02/02/2010 21:57

whiteroses - that's the problem, I have no idea what I would do if there is a problem with the baby. Before I was pregnant I always assumed that it would be an easy decision; something wrong, terminate and try again. But now there is a baby here, inside me, it really is so much more difficult.

I don't know what DH would want us to do - he is catholic as well (although fairly lapsed, but that guilt is still there!) which also complicates things.

I guess I will just have to hope that all is ok. Trying to be upbeat and not dwell on it too much!

Sorry to hear about all of you with morning sickness, and having to eat in the middle of the night, it sounds awful.

addie I haven't had the swine flu vaccine. I was actually going to have it the month I got pregnant but I didn't want to have it in the first trimester.

It seems fairly rare over here (Australia) especially as we are in summer here, but I may have it as we get towards winter. I'm in two minds. I've only ever had flu once in my life, when I was 4, but on the other hand, I"ve had the normal winter flu shot for the last 5 years with no side effects at all.

Tricky! There are lots of tricky decisions around pregnany aren't there?!

Welcome to the thread chancewouldbeafinething !

Hobnob76 · 03/02/2010 15:59

Wow! So much to catch up on! Sorry I've been awol for a while, have been feeling vile! Morning sickness should be renamed all bloody day sickness in my case, feel queasy all day long, my boobs have grown to epic proportions(need some mat bras desperately) and I've been spotting on and off since last Friday . I rang the docs this morning and the lady at the epu has booked me a scan for tomorrow morning, the word 'threatened miscarriage' was used a lot

Anyhow hope everyone is fine, congrats to all the new BFP's!

pixiestix · 03/02/2010 18:22

Oh HobNob - fingers crossed for tomorrow. For what its worth, I went to the EPU for abdomen pain last week and when I was leaving the nurse said "Don't worry if you start spotting, we see it all the time and its usually fine". So hopefully your nurse is a scare-monger and my nurse is right!! Hope it goes ok. [hugs]

chancewouldbeafinething · 03/02/2010 18:22

Oh hobnob I hope everything is ok and the scan goes well. Sorry to hear about the MS I still have that to look forward to

addie I havent had a flu shot but I did have swine flu in august, at the time they told me if I got it again it would only be a mild case, so I think i might just hope it doesnt happen. I am pretty fanatical about antiseptic gel & wipes now though.
Thanks for the info on the scan, £65 sounds like a total bargain! I was envisaging it to be more like hundreds. I will wait to see if the Doc recommends it first if not i might be asking you for names!

Ozzie Whereabouts in Oz are you? I am originally from Sydney, we are planning to move back before the baby is born, so we had better get moving! Its really hard to say what to do, I think when things like that happen you will just know what is the best thing to do for you. But I am sure that you are worrying about nothing, and your scan will be fine

whiteroses hope you are feeling better. Thanks for the info. I think i am only a few weeks along, I know they wont be able to see anything yet, but i just dont think i could wait 12 weeks and have the thought of an EP for all that time. I will take your advice and lay it on as thick as possible - if they dont agree i will just do a private one.

Not much to report from my side - you wont want to know this but i felt pretty good today, i wasnt too tired or anything. I guess i should enjoy this while it lasts

Hope everyone is feeling better xxxx

WorrisomeHeart · 03/02/2010 18:43

Hi guys

Just a really short one - had some bad stuff happening in the WH household over the last couple of days. Me and bean are fine but my SIL tried to commit suicide yesterday so we're (obviously) all a bit shook up. It's so hard and I feel terrible for her, but every so often I go off into an 'I'm having a baby stupor' and forget that there's everything else going on. So just wanted to touch base with you all. Hope the week is going ok for you.

NovemberAli · 03/02/2010 19:53

Oh no Worrisome - how upsetting, best wishes to you and your family.

Hope all goes well tomorrow Hobnob, will be thinking of you. Everyone always says feeling sick is a good sign too - although it doesn't feel like it at the time.

Congratulations chance! Yay to more graduates soon!

Ozziegirly · 03/02/2010 22:19

hobnob will keep everything crossed that you're ok, and the bleeding is nothing. Lots of people seem to have some early bleeding and then go on to have perfectly normal pregnancies though - I guess that's not so reassuring when it's you that it's happening to.

chance I'm in Adelaide. I lived in Sydney for a year and we've been here for just over a year. I love Sydney, but we moved here as my DH was offered a promotion down here (and also because his whole team in Sydney were being laid off!). I do like it, but it is a bit quiet for me. It has its pluses though - nice affordable houses and easy to get out of the city.

Worrisome I"m so sorry to hear about your sister, that must be terrible and I hope she can get some help to assist her through this really hard time.

pixiestix · 04/02/2010 11:47

Hi HobNob, any news?
It looks like I might have to start taking my own advice to you - have been having pink CM this morning Im telling myself that its nothing and that other women have a lot worse, but after the pains of last week I am feeling miserable
Hope that everything went well for you.

addie81 · 04/02/2010 12:15

Thinking of you hobnob. x

Hobnob76 · 04/02/2010 13:18

Hiya ladies, thanks for your lovely messages! We saw mini Hobnob's heartbeat flickering away madly this morning! I'm so relieved! I'm only one day out on my dates too, so I'm now 6+4 today!

Pixiestix I hope all is ok with you, if in doubt ring your doc, that's what I did. Fingers crossed for you

Well I threw up good and proper this morning, not sure if some of it was nerves too.

pixiestix · 04/02/2010 14:04

That's lovely news!
Mini-hobnob, mmmmmm!

I have an early scan at the EPU on Monday so I guess I will just sit it out until then. If things are bad there is nothing they will be able to do anyway. But our dates are nearly the same Hob (I'm 6+1 today) so hopefully I'm just having a bit of whatever you are having!

MadameG · 04/02/2010 15:17

I'm on the exact same day as you, Hobnob! I'm 6+4 too! Had my dating scan yesterday and we could see the heartbeat flickering! Good news. Hope things continue well for everybody.

Worrisome- I'm sorry about what you're going through.

I feel so rough- nauseous, exhausted, floppy- I just want to go to bed.

Hermya321 · 04/02/2010 20:30

Hello everyone,

Just lurking,

Worrisome I'm so sorry about your SIL, I hope things get better for you guys soon. Are you all getting support?

Pixie Wow, let us know how the scan goes.

Hobnob Great news about your scan!

Whiteroses Glad to see that you're doing well!!

It's all very exciting round these parts.

Ozziegirly · 05/02/2010 23:23

Had my nuchal scan yesterday - which was fine, measurement was in normal range (1.4mm I think he said).

So just waiting for the results of the blood test now and I should be able to properly enjoy the pregnancy.

Lovely to see the baby again, it gave us a wave and we saw tiny fingers and also have a scan picture. I'll post it as soon as I have the final results (who knew I was so superstitious!)

chancewouldbeafinething · 06/02/2010 17:08

Great news ozziegirl glad you were worried about nothing! look forward to see the pciture.

My what to expect when your expecting arrived yesterday - so i have been boring DH with it all day. He is off to Finland tomorrow so i think i will try to get stuck in then.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for books? this one seems quite good so far though.

Hope you are all having a good weekend!

WorrisomeHeart · 06/02/2010 18:41

Hi all

Sorry for the silence, as you can expect it's been a tough few days. SIL is doing much better now and she and BIL are working things through (it was them splitting that triggered the upset). We told them and the in-laws and my folks today and I think it's helped for everyone to have a new focus - cue much crying (and not just from me!). I'm glad things are calming down as (perhaps selfishly) I want to focus on the baby!

Me and Mr Teeny are doing fine - am now over 5 weeks - it's so nice to start getting the weekly milestones done isn't it? Mind you, I think the next 7 weeks will go sooooo slowly.

hobnob so pleased everything has turned out well and you were able to see the baby! (or at least the heartbeat!)

ozzie fab news about the nuchal scan being clear and how cute is it about the wave!!

chance My what to expect arrived yesterday too! I'm loving it so far - very comprehensive. I also have The Pregnancy Bible which is good for pictures, The Rough Guide to Pregnancy which is a bit of a laugh, and the Best Friend's Guide to pregnancy which is funny but not too useful... I'm a bit of a bookaholic!!

Anyway, hope you are all having a good weekend!

DesperateHousewife21 · 06/02/2010 19:18

Hi all havent been on here in a while, just updating you all, am now 17 weeks and have a bump so my mum bought me some maternity jeans yesterday which are fab.

Hope everyone is doing well and good luck to those who have scans coming up. Exciting times!

addie81 · 06/02/2010 19:21

Chance - I have "conception, pregnancy and birth" by miriam stoppard which is really good, and I also have the dorking kindersly "your pregnancy week by week" book which is also really good. The most useful book I have though is a tiny little paperback called the pregnancy instruction manual. They have it on amazon for about £6, and it has a bright pink cover. its an american book - it has lots of information in it, which isn't in the other books and I was amazed by how helpful it is.

sparklyrainbow · 06/02/2010 19:26

Evening

Thought I'd drop by as I haven't been on here for a while... Glad Ozzie and Hobnob have had positive news, and that a new focus has imrpoved the situation Worrisome. Congrats Chance and hope everyone else is doing well

I have nothing of note to report really, am waiting for midwife to contact me. Learning to live with the tiredness now so it's not so bad and keep wanting to eat hula hoops and cheddar, and have milky drinks... stodge and protein I suppose

NovemberAli · 08/02/2010 18:50

Glad to hear things are well with the beans Hobnob and MadameG

Great news about the scan Ozzie, that must be a load off you mind. It seems this pregnancy thing is just one one big worry after another!

Can't wait till I'm at the maternity wear stage desperate, so exciting! I've bought a few things from Vertbaudet in anticipation but they'll have to stay in the wardrobe for now!

Glad to hear your SIL is doing a bit better Worrisome, how nice for your happy news to distract them all.

I'm still waiting for my scan date and I'll be 11 weeks on Wed , will be hassling the midwife if I've not heard anything by then!

chancewouldbeafinething · 08/02/2010 22:07

Hi All

worrisome & Addie Thanks for the book ideas...I ordered the pink book should arrive tomorrow I am also a bit of a book addict, i am gutted that borders closed down (my idea of heaven:books& starbucks under one roof)

worrisome I am not sure how I missed your SIL situation, I am glad it has calmed down, that is horrible. I work in hotels and have had people do that many times, i always wish someone could say to them there are important things to stay alive for...maybe your news will do the trick.

with DH away i have been compulsively alternating between looking at www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/fetaldevelopment/05weeks/ (and every other week), and baby clothes on gap.com. At least when he was here i had to pretend I wasnt completely nuts...now there is no stopping me

Oh and strangely i have discovered i really like fizzy vimto!?! (i have been here for 6 years and only just discovered it)

I cant wait to see the doc this week - Are there any questions (other than the obvious) that i should ask? I guess what i am asking is there anything any of you wished you had of asked but didnt at your first appointment?

Hope everyone has a good week xx

Ozziegirly · 08/02/2010 22:57

My main symptom at the moment seems to be endless hunger!

It's 9.30am here, and I had breakfast 2 hours ago - a decent sized bowl of bran flakes with fruit and seeds, and yet my tummy is rumbling and I am hungry again!

It's far too early for my morning snack though but I have cheese sandwiches in my bag for lunch and I could happily eat them right now.

I cannot start having two breakfasts or two lunches though, I will be the size of a house.

Interestingly though, I am now 12 weeks and despite eating whatever I fancy for the last 7 weeks and only doing really mild exercise, I have only put on 1 lb. Normally if I eased off at the gym I would put this on in a week!
