...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Hello all,

Sorry I've been a bit AWOL. Been having a rubbish time of it. (Arthritis has flared and I have suspected SPD - fun!). Anyway, I just wanted to say congrats to ads and worry! Hope I haven't missed anyone. Excellent new.

And anyone with period like cramps - do not worry. I had them for weeks.

On a positive note, I'm almost 16 weeks and think I've felt the baby move!

WhiteRoses · 01/02/2010 12:02

Hi everyone,

Well, the mad vomitting and not holding anthing down has gone and I'm now back to just feeling queasy when hungry, like I did at the beginning of last week, so I'm really hoping that I did just have a bug for those few days. Think I must have done.

Unfortunately though, things did get worse for me before they got better. I ended up being taken into hospital on Friday and have been on a drip all weekend, trying to get my body rehydrated and back to how it should have been. I was only let out this morning, but have been off the drip since yesterday. It was all pretty dangerous, but the one plus side was that I got given an early scan on Saturday. Thankfully, all was well. They dated me at 6+5 (7wks today) and, as it was so early, there wasn't a lot to see. Just a yolk sac, and a little blob beside it, not much bigger than it! In the middle of the blob, you could see a flickering. That was the heart! As I say, you couldn't see much, but it really was a relief to be told all was well. Mind you, being me, I'm already back to knicker-checking, thinking of all that could have gone wrong in the past 48hrs!

Spireal - lol at "they do let babies into Canada"!

See when I was in hospital, I was on the maternity ward and the woman in the next bed had a baby boy while I was there - he was soooo gorgeous! I was dead jealous actually! I want mine now too! Lol!

Desperate - I got my date for my next scan too (the 11-12wks one) - I'm also having it on the 2nd of March! Snap!

Pixie - glad to hear you're feeling better now too. (And I know what you mean about moving up the list!)

Addie and Worrisome - glad you found your way over! I'm updating the list with my new (post-scan) EDD, so am also moving you from future to current graduates as well, although I don't know your due dates so can't put them in.

Worrisome - I had an appointment with a (very nasty) midwife, where we filled out a form. (She filled it out, actually, guessing lots of information about me, and getting it totally wrong.) DH was working so couldn't come to that. Obviously I've just done the stint in hospital - DH was there for most of that, seeing as it was the weekend. I've now got another appointment on Wednesday (2wks after my original one). No idea what that's for but DH can't make it. After that, dunno if I have anything else but I do have a scan and "booking" appointment on the 2nd of March. He's going to phone in sick to work so he can be at that with me. Apparently employers don't have to give dads time off to attend these things, so we're not asking and running the risk of them saying no. It's too important. Hope that helps!

Addie - I had the very same thing - as others have said, it's just all your bits stretching and getting themselves ready. Try not worry about it! x

ceebs - you have my sympathy! [hug] Hope it passes quickly!

Curly - sorry to hear about the arthritis... Is that something you've always had? And what's an SPD? Doesn't sound good either, but I can't for the life of me work out what it is!

Excellent to hear about the baby moving though! Must be so exciting! I think that's when I'll finally relax - when I start to be able to actually feel that it's all going well!

Okay - updated list to round off what's already a marathon post! (My new EDD and Addie and Worrisome bumped up to Current Graduates.)

Oh, and I still don't know what a booking appointment is... I've already been asked about family history, etc, already been weighed and had BP, etc. checked... Seemingly this is something different though!

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 01/02/2010 12:19

whiteroses so sorry to hear you've had such a bad time of it and very glad you are feeling better now. Well, your pregnancy diary will certainly be eventful!

I have had rheumatoid arthritis half my life and had to come off meds to TTC. about 80 per cent of RA women go into remission in pregnancy, but I've gone the other way. Now waiting to see a consultant to see what we do next. SPD is a pelvic problem in pregnancy symphysis pubis dysfunction. I have to see a physio to see what's going on.

Booking in - you'll chat to a midwife about your general health, rough plans for pregnancy and birth, find out who your personal midwife is (community midwife), get loads of phone numbers and your maternity record - the green book that you need to take pretty much everywhere from now on! You should also get a bounty pack and loads of other info specific to your local NHS Trust. I think the content varies greatly. You'll get a voucher in the bounty pack for a proper Bounty Pack - full of freebies! Some people get their 12-week scan at booking in.

Hope that helps

WhiteRoses · 01/02/2010 14:05

Curly - sorry to hear about your arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis runs in my family so I know quite a bit about it. It's such an awful thing. See, what I don't get, with arthritis generally, is why they can't really treat it properly. When you think of all the people who have it and the misery it causes, you'd think they'd have found a cure by now.

God, SPD... Ugh! Poor you! I've just had a bit of a read about it. You're just having the worst luck. Still... It'll all be worth it in the end!

See, think I've already done a lot of the booking in stuff... I've talked general health, family history, had BP, weight, height, etc. checked, decided where I'll give birth (had it decided for me!), I met the midwife who would have been mine (had she not been such a bitch) - on Wednesday, I'm meeting the new one. I was given a maternity record to cart about with me... I didn't get a Bounty pack but that's about it! The card that came through the door is for a twelve week scan and booking in though, so I guess maybe they've to go into everything in more depth? Suppose I'll find out soon enough!

Oh, Spireal - remember we were talking about water births? Seemingly I can't have one. Apparently, being consultant-led means that you can't. Found that out at the hospital over the weekend.

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 01/02/2010 14:17

Cheers roses - yes, I had already gone through it all at earlier apps, but not everyone has them, I suppose. My choice was made for me (consultant-led) - but at booking-in the midwife gave me more options and vowed to back me in whatever I want to push for. You will get used to repeating your health history, I'm afraid. Even the midwife was moaning about that

WorrisomeHeart · 01/02/2010 18:45

whiteroses so sorry to hear you've been ill, but glad to hear you're feeling better now!

Curly so so so excitng about feeling the baby move!! I bet it all feels so real now.

Thanks guys for the 'booking in' info too - I don't know where I'd be without the crazybabyladies to explain all to me!

I called the doctors today to find out about getting on the midwife roster. What is it about GP receptionists?! The woman I spoke to asked me how PG I was and when I said 4.5 weeksish said 'oh thats still very early, well I suppose we can book you in if you like' Ok, so otherwise I should ignore the NHS guidelines to contact your GP asap then?? Long story short, I have an appt with the GP next week where they'll get me started.

Have been very OCDish today too and instead of working I've been looking up the company maternity policy and working out dates and budgets etc.. Hope everyone else has had a good Monday!

WorrisomeHeart · 01/02/2010 18:47

Oh, I've updated the list with what I think will end up being my EDD too (happens to be 2 days after my mums birthday!)

Huge congratulations to Chance! That's the first of our February graduates!

Worrisome - your EDD is my favourite aunt's birthday!

Your GP's receptionist sounds like a right idiot! Did you read my rant post about what my horribly insensitive bitch midwife said to me?! These people shouldn't be let talk to other human beings!

Curly - that's interesting to hear that there's scope to possibly push to have the ruls bent a bit.

Eurgh - morning sickness has arrived big time, except that it lasts all day! Nauseous the whole time, and keep having to run to the loo to retch, but don't actually bring anything up. Revolting. I have lost 2 pounds over the weekend! I am incredibly bloated and (TMI - gassy) as well, I feel like my stomach has been inflated. It's vile. If this is going to last for the next 8 weeks I am going to be in bits by then! Did anyone else have MS this early? how long did it stick around? I went to the GP this morning, who has given me two different prescriptions for it, cylclizine and metaclopromide, but I really don't to take anything if I can possible avoid it. The ginger capsules, morningwell CD, seabands, and vitamin B6 don't bloody work!!
I hope everyone else is on cheerier form than me. Sorry for the moan!

addie81 · 01/02/2010 21:22

I have updated the list with the EDD my GP gave me. Its 8 October which will be my maternal grandparents 61st wedding anniversary - a special date. There is always the possibility of a 10.10.10 birthdate for those of us with BFP's over the last week or so though!

Oo, a 10.10.10 date would be really cool.

Whiteroses and addie, sorry to hear you're having a horrid time of the morning sickness. Hope that goes off for you soon.

And CurleyCasper, that is a huge pain about the SPD and flare up of arthritis.

No news from me. I have my nuchal scan on Friday. She has told me to make sure I drink 500ml by an hour before and then hold it! Now, I don't know about you, but I wee on average every 20 minutes, so I don't know how this is going to work, especially as I have a 30 minute car journey to the clinic....

I am semi dreading the scan - well, more the results coming back saying anything is wrong. I think I could cope with a miscarriage as it would be out of my hands, but honestly, even if there is something wrong, I do not know how I could possibly abort this child.

Sorry, I know it's depressing to think of, but I was thinking about it last night and the thought of having to make that decision....well, I honestly don't know how i could do it, and if I did, I don't know if I could ever bear to get pregnant again.

Updating my EDD as well;

Hi girls - just lurking!

whiteroses I must have psychic abilities as you popped into my thoughts last night and I began to wonder if you'd not been around lately due to your sickness. Glad you're feeling better now and that everything's ok with the baby.

curly sorry to hear your arthritis has flared up. My DH has RA (although pretty mild as it only affects one finger, one thumb and an ankle) and we went to see dr a couple of weeks ago about meds - told me to hurry up and produce a BFP so he can go on proper meds. He also told us that RA usually gets better during pg - not much help for DH as he isn't going to be pg any time soon. Was a bit that dr didn't seem to realsie that it's the woman that gets pg . Hope you get on some decent meds soon.

Right, am going to head back over to the TTC thread. Hope to be here properly soon....

zippys · 02/02/2010 08:49

Hi, I thought I would also just pop my head in and say hi. For those of you not following the TTC board I am having a pretty horrible time at the moment, wont go too much into it but may have something horrible growing on my brain

Anyway reading all about your different stages has cheered me up this morning so thanks

Curly I know someone who had SPD with both of their pregnancys, they had physio early on with the second and was loads better as with the first she ended up on crutches then wheelchair so I would try to get some physio early if you can - its a horrible condition and I really hope you dont develop it.

Addie I would be careful if you try the cylclizine, I tried it for my sickness and felt like not on this planet, couldnt see properly or anything - obviosuly you may not have the same symptoms but make sure you take it when you dont have to drive or function!! Hope you feel better soon.

CurlyCasper · 02/02/2010 09:07

sorry to hear that zippys, I hope there's good news to come for you

Thanks for telling me about your friend - it's encouraging, especially as I see the physio next week.

Bunny, yes, that would be some story, if his RA cleared up during pregnancy! Fingers crossed for you though.

Good luck for the nuchal oz. I am waiting from my triple blood test results...

addie I hope your MS is short-lived, but be prepared for the bloating and wind to continue. It becomes a faithful companion !

NovemberAli · 02/02/2010 11:36

Sorry to hear the bad time you've been having of it Curly and Whiteroses - glad that you both had some good news in the shape of seeing the bean and feeling baby move!

Hope everything turns out okay Zippys, must be a stressful time for you

Good luck with the scan Ozzie!

Hoping the MS isn't too bad Addie

Curly - sorry you are feeling so crap How fantastic to feel the baby move though!

Roses - I can't believe you ended up in hospital!! You must have been so worried Thats great that you saw a little flickering heart though. I have an early scan at the same stage as you - 6+5 - next week because of the pains I was having, and am praying that I will get a little heartbeat too.

Congratulations Chance! Bunny - ROFL at the doctor not realising that its the lady that gets pg!

Good luck with your nuchal on Friday Ozzie. I know what you mean about the whole abortion issue - part of me wants to skip the screenings and just deal with any problems when the LO is born. I am going to be having a serious think about it over the next few weeks.

Addie - Oh no! I cant believe that you have morning sickness already - you were the only one prepared for it, and the one who it would affect the most! That is such shit luck Hope that you are feeling a little better.

addie81 · 02/02/2010 14:53

good luck with your scan Pixie. I started the metaclopromide in desperation at about 4am, and I think it has helped a bit.

Spirael · 02/02/2010 17:11

Afternoon all, short one from me today () as I'm not feeling great. It's only a common cold that my DH thoughtfully shared with me, but it's causing more problems than usual because I can't just dose myself up on Lemsip and ignore it. Bah!

Oh well, at least DH is being an angel with TLC for me. Bringing me food/drink/hugs on demand and such. Timing was pretty awful though... I've been refreshing my first aid certificate for the last couple of days so unable to take sick leave! Finished that earlier though (passed - woo!) and if I don't sleep again tonight then I'm so having a duvet day tomorrow. [insert dead smiley here]

Hope everything's going ok for everyone. Will catch up properly once my brain defuzzes itself!

chancewouldbeafinething · 02/02/2010 17:42

oooh my first post on the graduates...yipee!

Unlike Bunny I have not been lurking so need to do some catch up reading.

whiteroses thanks for updating me!

Can I ask though - does anyone know if it is possible to get an early scan if you have only 1 ovary& tube left? (lost right side when i was 17 to a MASSIVE cyst that went gangrene...yes i know very nice picture) I am worried about a possible EP. Thanks!!

chancewouldbeafinething · 02/02/2010 18:51

Wow pixie your boss is a bitch! you did well not to tell her so. Can i ask how you managed your early scan, as you can see from my earlier post I am a bit nervous

addie hope the drugs are working. It would not be good to carry a sick bag into court!

Spirael oh your DH sounds lovely to be looking after you so well. hope you are feeling better soon

I am still reading through all of the posts - but i already feel less stressed from all of your appointment updates

WhiteRoses · 02/02/2010 19:16

Hi everyone.

Aww, Addie - how awful for you. At least you're not actually being sick though. That's the main thing. I find the best thing I can do is to keep my stomach from emptying. When it's empty, and I eat, I feel really lousy, whereas if I just pick all day, I'm okay. I've even been holding off going to the toilet before bed, so that I have to get up during the night to go, and then I can have a quick munch on something. Sounds ridiculous, and I'll be the size of a house if I keep going at this rate, but for me, it's better than being queasy. Dread the thought of ending up in hospital again.

10.10.10 - that'd be pretty good! I was thinking I might end up with 8.9.10! But now the due date's been made later, so less likely!

Ozzie - . So would you not keep the baby if there was something wrong? How does DH feel? It would be SUCH a horrible decision but hopefully it'll be one you never have to make. x

Lol Bunny at your doctor! , indeed! Doesn't insprire much faith! That's nice that you were thinking about me! I keep thinking about Sevans, and wondering how she's doing. Hope she's alright and doesn't stay away for too much longer. Would be nice if she even just popped in to say hello and let us know how she's getting on.

I really like when future graduates pop over. Nice to stay in touch, and, as you say, hopefully you will (all!) be here permanently very soon.

Zippys - nice to see you here too. Although I obviously do flit between the two threads pretty regularly! As Curly says, hopefully you'll be getting some nice, happy news soon, to take your mind off things. x

Pixie - how wonderful! See one thing I would say though (and please don't take it the wrong way) is that there won't be much to see. When I went for mine, I fully expected to see a little baby shape, like in Curly's 7+6 scan. In reality, all there was was a round grey blob, which was the yolk sac, and a sort of long, oval shaped blob beside it, that was slightly longer but not as wide. That was the baby! The middle of the oval bit (the baby!) flickered dark and light, and apparently that was the heart beating! It was amazing to catch that first glimpse, but, at the same time, there wasn't much to see and in the beginning, I did start to panic. (Thinking that it was too small and that there must be something wrong!) But that, thankfully, wasn't the case, and it's perfectly normal that, at 6+5, my baby looked nothing like a baby at all! Anyway, you'll probably think I'm daft saying that, but I just know that I would have relaxed more, had I known what to expect! It'll be amazing anyway! x

Addie - just read that you took the tablets and feel better. That's great. hope it continues. x

Aww, Spireal - sorry to hear you're feeling bad. Hope it passes soon, but meanwhile, glad DH is feeling suitably guilty and is taking good care of you. x

Congratulations again Chance and great to see you here. Not sure about the scan... Have you made an appointment with the doctor? How pregnant do you think you are?
