...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

DesperateHousewife21 · 21/03/2010 14:03

God trying I didnt act realise you were due next month! I feel like Im getting things ready really early now lol. I suppose its always good to be prepared. Only trouble is Ill have a load of baby stuff all set up in the nursery and will have to wait ages for the baby to act use any of it. Then again it takes me ages to get round to doing the things Ill say Im going to.

Ho hum...

Trying4Baby1 · 21/03/2010 14:20

November not quite at that milestone yet but getting there.

lol desperate yeah I know I keep forgetting that my due date's getting closer and closer! Nothing wrong with being organised! My friend gave us her pram before Christmas as she needed the space and I have bought bits and pieces as I've recently become addicted to ebay and I also visited an NCT sale.

Nothing wrong with being organised early it's just that I really haven't had time to get some done as until this week I was still working full time. All finished now though so I can get on with things. Finally got round to decorating the baby's room this weekend. I'd actually started decorating it at Christmas but then had a car accident and so was told to take it easy for a while and lost the motivation. Really hoping the whole nesting thing kicks in as the house is a tip and I need to get my arse in gear!

Hermya321 · 21/03/2010 15:38

Hello Frolickers, gosh I leave you alone for a day and a half and you have a good old chin wag. We've had our friends up this weekend, we managed not to spill the beans to them but I've horribly guilty all weekend. I mean they should be enjoying this time as well, not grieving. They seem to be ok, but I think it'll take a bit of time before they're back to normal again.

My tummy is starting become slightly rounded now, I normally have a flat tummy (years and years of ballet, gymnastics and pilaties) and it's now starting to curve a bit. Which is nice, but at the same time I keep being a bit sad that I'm going to just keep expanding from now on. Its a bit vain I know, at least it's a baby causing the expansion .

I also went to the zoo this weekend and I got chased by an Emu. Actually there was a pack of them and they seemed to be working together to try and surround me. I got away just in time though, it was pretty freaky though.

Bunny Yeah so did I, maybe we're part of the uninformed masses. If it makes you feel better, my Mum didn't react well to mine and Dh's engagement and tried to convince me to call it off for some odd reason. She soon got over it. Maybe your DH should try being pregnant for a while, he'd probably change his tune fast.

White I don't really get offended by much tbh, I tend not to take anything they say seriously anyway. Plus if I started poking my colleage back they'd probaby just laugh at me. Which actually would be pretty funny. No you're right to be mad at ebay, you do often take a bit of a risk when you buy stuff off of them. I suppose I've had mostly good luck with them, I guess a part of it is to do with what you buy. I use it to get cheap Benefit products. They're the real deal, but often ten quid cheaper than in the shops. Works for me.

Pixie You can find out what it is at the twelve week scan? I never knew that! Yeah I think she's wrong as well, but who knows what her experience has been. She didn't tell me about her two until she was about four months, who knows. Thats great about you being pushed forward, I'm hoping that happens with me as well to be honest. We can't always get what we want though can we, how exciting!!!

Trying How exciting!!! A fellow bargin hunter!!!

NovemberAli I'm going to go with a friend to one of those, she's quite pushy and a force to be reckoned with. I expect she'll see me right.

DesperateHousewife21 · 21/03/2010 16:20

trying yeah your due 4 days after my birthday! I also love a good bargain on ebay etc. Might try and get the car seat base from ebay to save a few quid.
We've had confirmation from 3 family members as to what they will be giving us so at least I can make a start on what we need to buy.

We havent started the baby's room yet but then that would be more down to money issues. Im not working atm and havent been since xmas and its a struggle on DP's wage alone, so much so that I am having to apply for housing benefit. So once that is sorted and I know how much is coming in I can start on the baby's room.

Trying4Baby1 · 21/03/2010 16:31

Desperate we haven't spent loads on doing up the baby's room, it's money issues with us too as well as being practical. We just put up lining paper and then painted over the top. Haven't got a set of curtains or lampshade yet but going to just buy plain ones rather than buying overpriced ones with characters on them.

Like I said earlier our cot was nearly half price but haven't got round to buying a mattress yet and we're using chest of drawers that were given to us by my husbands aunty. Getting a new carpet but father in law is paying for that as his present to the baby, which is really appreciated!

Don't see the point in spending loads of money and as the baby will be in our room for first few months we'll be looking out for sales for the rest of the stuff we need. It was more that I wanted the walls painted and carpet down early so there's no fumes by the time the baby goes into the room.

DesperateHousewife21 · 21/03/2010 18:47

trying yeah thats the sort of thing im going to do. Keep curtains, walls and carpet the same and put up pics and have toys etc in there, the baby wont even know they are there anyway!

Cant wait to get the buggy/car seat, its so nice and I want to start practising the folding and fiddling about with it

chancewouldbeafinething · 21/03/2010 21:19

trying how exciting! Glad you have a chance to rest and not worry about going to work, just getting ready now. Good luck with the nesting

hermya emus are evil! I can remember being pecked by one when i was little - you did well to escape

November this must be the weekend of NCT sales, I drove past one today, and was tempted to stop...much too early for me though. It must feel good to be getting ready.

despo talk of making lists inspired me to start to list all the things we need to sell before we move....i felt better before i saw how long it is, but at least i can figure out if any family want things and not sell them off now.

bunny i noticed that the other day when i was lurking on the ttc thread, I have only been gone for such a short time and already there are so many new people, and i didnt see some of the older ones...I am guessing that they all know they are welcome here, but you do pose a good question. Although it is interesting to see when the list gets shorter...i really dont know

Exciting news - i bought my first maternity trousers today. I can go back to work tomorrow and be comfortable Have been so tired this weekend, not sure how i will survive a full day of work...we will see.

Hope everyone had a good weekend xxxx

Hermya321 · 21/03/2010 21:36

Has anyone seen Drewsgirl around, she's not been on here in a little while and I'm hoping she's ok.

pepperonipizza · 22/03/2010 00:36

Hi All,

You're all very chatty! Hope you've had a good weekend. We've been busy doing bits and pieces and seeing friends, etc.

Bunny - thanks for the invite to the Sydney meet, that sounds lovely but I'm away for a friends birthday this weekend. Love the Opera Bar though, my favourite Sunday spot with the live jazz and a nice big bottle of wine (no wine at the moment though, obviously!!). Let me know how it goes and maybe I can come along to the next one? Oh, and were you annoyed with your DH for asking if it was all psychological?! I would have been, but my DP says it's quite hard to imagine the baby as a real thing, even now (when I have a big bump that kicks his hand and moves around!!). He says until it comes out, it won't be 'real' for him - though he's super-supportive of the pregnancy. So maybe your DH is just saying that in a roundabout way? I am sure I speak for millions of pregnant women when I say that the sickness and tiredness of the first trimester is 100% actual symptom, not imagined!!!!

Trying - very exciting that you're so far along!! I (and all of us, I'm sure) am facinated to hear how those last few weeks feel, and expect a full report on the birth, life at home with the new LO, etc. etc. you're almost exactly a month ahead of me and I am so jealous about you finishing work and not having to wait very long now for all the exciting things to happen!!

I agree that maybe it would be best to take the list of future grads off, it's hard to keep up to date with all the new TTC people when we're not on the conception threads all the time anymore. Then maybe when we start the next continuing thread of this one, we can just make it really clear that anyone is welcome?

All this talk of pushchairs and baby things is so exciting, I love it. We pretty much have everything we need now, and I'm planning a big sort out and put away over Easter hols (for now everything's just shoved in a pile!!). Really looking forward to doing that, and packing my hospital bag, etc.

DesperateHousewife21 · 22/03/2010 10:33

chance yeah lists def make things easier, I made a list when we moved into our first flat together, a list of things to ask estate agent, a list of our outgoings, a list of things to buy etc etc lol.

pepperoni think idea about taking future grads off is a good idea as I was looking at the conception threads yesterday and there are ALOT of new people who are TTC.

Can someone who is further along than me (Im 23 weeks now) tell me what week is normal to start taking note of fetal movements. Some days I really dont think I can feel him very much but dont want to worry unnecessarily. Thanks!

fudgecat · 22/03/2010 11:33

curly good luck house hunting

desperate wow it must be amazing to feel little Dylan kicking

chance glad to hear you are feeling better

bunny I did have the option of coming to Sydney but it was too short notice for me and I would of had to take it as unpaid leave from my job. DP landed 7am your time yesterday and called me- he sounded so tired as he didn?t get much sleep on the flight and was going to have a shower and then head into the office.

whiteroses sorry you are feeling sick again, hopefully it won?t last too long. [crossed fingers]

pixie well done on sticking to your guns and not caving in when they offered to tell you the sex

trying enjoy the next 5 weeks any yes, please keep us updated

november the NCT sale sounds interesting ? I will have to keep an eye out and see if there are any in my area in the future

hermya lol at the emu maybe it could tell you were pregnant? They say dolphins can so maybe it?s the same with emus

Not much news from me, DP has been away for 2 days now so I?m moping about the house on my own . I have a hairdresser?s appointment this afternoon so at least that will get me out of the house for a bit and I?m back at work tomorrow.

DesperateHousewife21 · 22/03/2010 11:37

fudgecat yeah it is lovely feeling him kick, but then it does come with another set of problems, worrying he's not kicking enough!

pepperonipizza · 23/03/2010 07:06

Desperate - don't worry, some days I get loads of kicks, other days it's a lot more quiet. Have you heard of the 10 kicks a day rule? Once you are getting more kicky feelings (ie. not just bubble popping feelings), count the kicks and as long as you feel at least 10 kicks or movements within 24 hours, it's fine. If I'm not feeling much, I have something really cold to drink and lie down on the bed, that seems to get him moving! Know what you mean though, it's a bit worrying if when you don't feel anything for a while! I'm sure it's fine though!!

fulhamgirl · 23/03/2010 08:27

Morning guys.

Trying- it is so nice to hear from you. I'm one month and 6 days behind u lol. I would love to hear on your progress and pain relife but could u leave the bit about how painful it is out please im proper shitting myself about that bit.
My last day is next wednesday only because my house is a tip and I still need to do loads of baby prep. My boss is an absoulte cow as well so at least im geting some holiday leave outta her before I go on maternity. I will nearly be 32 weeks anyway so I will enjoy not being to heavily pregnant whilst still going shopping and getting the nursery sorted.

des- I think I posted on here a few weeks ago saying about how worried I was that I didnt feel her move or kick. its horrible but your find the next day or two the bubba will give u a proper kick in lol.
I lay on my left side that seems to work. What I find really lovely is when OH gets in from work or football my LO kicks and moves like mad. Defo going to be a daddy's girl I think. pepper is right it is really worrying but honestly their is nothing to worry about I promise I went to the doctors and made out that I was getting bad back pain lol just so they could check her heartbeat. (really naughty I know I just wanted reasurance I worry to much).

her-lmao emu hahahahaha!! Oh I hate them things I hate big birds like swans emus gease etc hate them always have done so u were very brave. It is true some animals can pick a sent up that your pregnant so maybe thats why they were drawn to u more. Still wish I was there to have seen that.

pix A whole 9 days forward thats brlliant news I bet u were over the moon. No the OH's dont understand do they how excited that makes u feel when they are necking the beers back eating Mr Whippy ice cream and have so much engery lolololol.
Will u give in next week and find out the sex? I asked at my 12 week scan but they said it was far to early u have a much better hospital.

fudge- hey hun. aww I bet getting your hair done has made u feel so much better. I got mine done last saturday and I felt really good. As for your DH being away that must be hard especially when your hormones are racing. I hate it when mine goes to football or if we get back from work and I fall asleep straight away and I dont spend any time with him.

pepper- Have you pack your hospital bag yet? I have done a few bits. Ive got all the nighties breast pads sanitry towels etc. Ive still gotta put my towels and own personal bits in like comfort bits, lip balm, sweets juice loads of books because when LO is sleeping I wont have anything to do.
We are going to pack her bag in a few weeks. My lovely mum has washed and ironed all her clothes for me so they look and smell lovely. good old mum.
We have started the nursery but feel there is no rush as she will be in with us for a few months but I want it done asap now. Im starting to get tired and moody again so doing the nursery at the weekends really cheers me up !!

white- hey how u feeling now? Is the sickness kinda easing off yet? Mine did around 14 weeks thats y I had such a strong feeling I was having a girl cause it lasted for so long.
Have your work been really kind to you letting u have breaks and time off?

bunny give your DH a slap lol. Oh dear some men are great others are clueless.
Just give him the look that normally works for me and they will walk away and come back 5 minutes later and say "do u want anything babe" lol it works.

chance- so glad to hear u are feeling better. I cant go back a page or I will lose this but was it u that said u had got your first pair of maternity trousers !! How exciting. U will notice a slight bump soon defo as soon as u past 12 weeks u normally start growing!! They say at 16 weeks thats when u really grow out.

Sorry if ive missed anyone again still on the look out for the witch incase she comes in. !! Oh well one more weeks and a day to go until im free of this place.

Not much from me really!! Got loads of pillows now as I am aching in the night on my side very uncomfortbale. Lily is doing full u-turns in my tummy where we play guess the body part when we see an elbow, bum or foot comming outta my skin lol. Hours of entertainment. She does not stay still.
My skin has had an outbreak though so it gets me down. !! Ive also got this spot in the corner of my eye kinda where the top of my nose is by the eyebrow but in the corner if that makes sence. Its not a spot spot its not painful its not even noticable been there for 3 weeks now so im kinda getting worried even though people are telling me not to its just pregnancy hormones.
Wohoo managed to post a long post. !!

xxxxxxxxx

DesperateHousewife21 · 23/03/2010 16:15

pepperoni Im def getting proper kicks, Im sure Ive heard from someone else its usually 25 weeks onwards and Im 23. I have felt him moving alot today so its reassured me quite alot.

fulham yeah I do remember you saying about not feeling her move very much. Going to the docs and telling a little fib is something Id do to get reassurance too! Luckily as I said I have felt him quite alot today so feeling much better about it, but yeah it is worrying when you dont feel them for a while, I keep thinking something awful has happened then I tell myself Im being silly, and so does he by giving me a good kicking!

claireinthecommunity · 23/03/2010 21:45

Hello everyone, tis me from the TTC thread

I fancied a quick catch up with you all, being 'stuck' on the TTC thread can get a bit much sometimes. Just reading all your baby preparing talk has really cheered me up! Not long before the first frolickers baby now eh Trying

Best wishes to you all for the next few months, hopefully I will be joining you soon

Hermya321 · 23/03/2010 22:49

Evening all you lovely ladies!!!

I've had such a hectic day today, everytime I sat down someone would come up to me and go 'Oh Hermya could you do so and so for me'. I nearly had a nervy b (nervous breakdown) in the corridor and was this close to throwing the ever expanding pile of papers on the floor.

Is anyone else getting people commenting on their weight as though they're entitled to do so. I've just had my sister ask 'are you fat yet?' What a stupid question, it's like asking someone 'Did all those pies you've been eating make a difference to your pile of lard that you've been carried around'.

I was eating soup yesterday (yes soup) and I had one of the more pervy uncle tubster type tell me 'you should be watching what you're eating.' Well yes I was in fact watching it. I watched it as it went on my spoon and then went into my mouth.

I am surrounded by gibbons. LOL!!!

Fulham Hows the plan to get your boss to a tribunal going. I think you would have had a proper laugh at me as I ran for my life. I did laugh afterwards.

Claire Hello!!! Nice to see you lurking!! You'll be here before you know it.

Chance Your first maternity trousers, how exciting!!

Fudge I think it was more to do with the fact that DH had bought some food to give to the Wallabys that were in the same area as the damn thing. Sorry you're missing DH.

Hermya321 · 23/03/2010 22:51

Sorry that should have been 'lard you've been carrying around'

Ozziegirly · 24/03/2010 00:08

Morning all!

claire hello, I also hope you'll be over here soon xx

All good with me. Still no movement at 18+2, but I think that's ok, but I am hoping it happens soon!

DH will sit there with his hands on the bump saying "was that something??" and I go " no, that was just a tummy rumble. Again"

But bless him for being excited.

We're going to start doing proper buying and planning soon. We're going away over easter and then I come back to my 20 week scan (actually at 21 weeks) and then if all is well we'll get the pram, cot ordered and start working through my list of things to buy.

We got our first present - a friend of ours had actually knitted little booties. I was so touched and they are so cute and tiny.

Obviously I cried.

I also found out that one of my best friends is 12 weeks pregnant so that's very exciting. Hers was not exactly planned, but not not planned IYSWIM. But her and her DP are thrilled and I am thrilled for them.

Just sad not to be back in the UK so we could go through it all together.

Hermya you need to work on a "hard stare" which I find works well if it looks like anyone is going to comment on what I am eating/doing.

I also figure it's good practise for when my baby is a toddler...

bunnygirl80 · 24/03/2010 08:59

Hello everyone

I've been away at work with no internet, so I've just spent an hour catching up on all your posts while stuffing my face with half a pizza!

pixie you were right - I have found the tiredness much more manageable while at work, although by the end of each day I was exhausted. I think my body knew I needed to soldier on through to the end of the day before giving up and collapsing in a heap

pepperoni it's a shame you can't make the meet up, but enjoy your weekend with your friend

hermya emus are pretty evil creatures! You seem to know some quite insensitive people- next time someone comments on your weight perhps you should just respond with something along the lines of "my tummy is due to the human being I'm growing in there, what's your excuse for being fat?!"

chance how exciting to be in maternity trousers - I can't wait, I imagine it'll make it all seem real somehow

fudge how are you getting on without your DP? Hope he's enjoying working out here - my DH's fave thing about his office is the massive beer fridge in the kitchen

ozzie my best friend is about 10 weeks more pg than me, and like you I do wish we were still living down the road from each other so we could go through it all together.

I think I may have figured out what my DH was trying to say when he asked if my symptoms were psychological - I think he was trying to ask whether I was now putting all feelings of discomfort/tiredness down to pregnancy where normally I'd never give them a second thought. I suppose in a round about way he might have a point as I was feeling tired and emotional with sore boobs a few days before my BFP but just put it down to PMT/ not enough sleep..... then I poas'd and suddenly started taking naps etc.

He is trying to be supportive - I think he just misses me a bit as I'm usually ready for bed about an hour and a half after he gets home from work so he's not seeing much of me awake. He does talk to my tummy and then put his ear to it to hear the baby talking back to him

DesperateHousewife21 · 24/03/2010 09:25

Hi all,

I didnt realise how generous people are when your pregnant. We are being given so much stuff, some second hand, some brand new but all very kind and lovely of the people giving it to us

Not much else to report here, LO was kicking alot yesterday and I woke up in the night to go to the toilet (3 times!) and he was kicking me then. Such a lovely feeling knowing hes happy and bouncing around in there!

Getting my Graco travel system soon which DP's mum is helping us pay for which is very nice of her as it isnt cheap but so so worth every penny!

chancewouldbeafinething · 24/03/2010 20:42

Hi All,

Just a quick post....

Feeling much better this week, except for having a dizzy spell on the way to work - why cant there ever be enough room on the trains?
New trousers make a big difference 1 week to go until the my scan next Thursday (not that i am counting down or anything)

Will catch up with all the posts tomorrow, hope everyone is well

bunnygirl80 · 25/03/2010 07:04

chance glad to hear you're feeling better.

desperate it's good that people are being so generous to you. My SIL was getting ready to send me all of her DS's winter baby clothes, then realised that as the seasons are the other way round down here I'm having a late spring/summer baby. It's a shame as her DS has some super cute snowsuits, but there not really going to be appropriate when it's 36degrees outside

I got all of my booking in paperwork from the obs and the hospital today - there is so much stuff to read through I think I'll only just have finished it all by the time my due date arrives

I'm supposed to book into a first trimester antenatal class for first time mums but I don't know if I can be bothered - the brochure makes it sound like it just covers the kind of thing I'll learn off MN anyway. I suppose it'll be a good way of meeting other mums to be though.

WhiteRoses · 25/03/2010 11:08

Hi all,

Just a quick message cause I'm so rubbish at keeping up lately, but thought I'd let you know I'm okay.

Have suddenly developed quite a decent bump. Everyone's been talking about it and how it just appeared out of nowhere. One person at work, who had been off on holiday and didn't know I was pregnant, actually asked me if I was, so I guess that must mean I'm not "just fat" any more!

Tiredness isn't as bad as it was, which is just as well, cause I haven't had a minute to relax, having to rush out and buy new clothes, and then MIL's not been too well either.

Sickness isn't great today, but haven't been sick (yet) and if I can keep it that way, that'll be three days in a row without throwing up - haven't gone that long since January! Still, I'm worse today than the past two days so not holding out much hope.

Okay, I think that's it...

Oh, the "futures" list... Yeh, there are lots of new people on the conception thread... Dunno about removing everyone though - do you think we could maybe try adding others on instead? Purely because having their name here while ttc sort of says "yeh, you belong here and will be here soon", and getting rid of it might be a bit "nah, you're taking too long, come back to us when you've succeeded." ??? Is that just me being really over-sensitive? Agree that the first post of the next thread should be worded better though, so that all first-timers know they're welcome. (Hopefully they know that anyway. )

Hermya321 · 25/03/2010 17:17

Hello everybody,

Not much to tell on my side of things at the moment, just plodding along. I've got a day off today and have spent most of it asleep, oh the joys.

I'm still up and down on the old nausea front, it tends to come and go. I'll have a few bad days and then a few good days where I feel normal. I'm getting shooting pains in my boobs a lot more now, I suppose it's all change in there at the moment. I've also been getting sort of pressure behind my tummy muscles. It gets bad if I leave it to go to the loo too long.

Is anyone else having fun pregnancy dreams? Mine are really vivid but they're about really mudane things like being at work or getting bills through the post.

Saying that though, last night I dreamt I was having twins and I was carrying them around in a jar in my bag and showing them to everyone. They also looked like teeny tiny cabbage patch dolls. I remember getting really stressed about how I was supposed to get them back in the womb.

Desperate How did you decide what pram to get? It really befuddles me tbh. Mind you, any pram will be subject to what we can get into our micra as we won't be getting a newer car till after baby is born. We can't afford it at the moment.

Ozzie I've got my hard stare all sorted, actually it's more of a 'you're being really stupid and if you don't go away I will do something which will ruin your day' stare. It really works.
