...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Ozzie, for most parishes only one Godparent will need to be Catholic for the Christening to take place. As long as you have one Catholic Godparent, you can then have as many non-Catholic Godparents as you want.

There are likely some really strict parishes out there that insist on all Catholics, but most have realised if they didn't ease up then the baby wouldn't get Christened - and they want as many new Roman Catholics as they can get!

Most of the people I'm thinking of asking to be Godparents aren't Catholic, but I have just enough that are to make sure that I can fill the necessary requirement.

fulhamgirl · 19/03/2010 08:38

Hermya321 · 19/03/2010 10:19

I got into work yesterday afternoon and was practically assaulted as I was walked into the office by one of my colleages who grabbed me, turned me around, looked at my tummy and then poked me. They looked at me with a very forelorn expression on their face and said 'where's your bump?'. I said 'I haven't got one yet.' They looked so heartbroken and they then walked off without another word. I think I have found my main bump poker for the next several months .

I then walked into the main office and for the next however long I had people discussing (right in front of me) how fat I was going to get and how long it would be before I would have to get into pregnancy pants . I'm wondering if theres a betting chart somewhere, maybe I should get in on that one.

They also told me that I couldn't use pregnancy as an excuse to eat all the biscuits. Mind you this was told to me by the one person who everytime he walked into the room, used it as an excuse to eat another biscuit from the packet.

The people I work with are very special and I love them.

Bunny Oh it's a bit of a shame about your Mum. If it makes you feel any better, I knew some people who were in the same position as your Mum. Their daughter and Grandchildren were in Oz and they were over here in Blighty. They said although it was hard, they were able to make it work with Skype and the like. They also used to go over about twice a year to see everybody and I think they really looked forward to those times. Thanks about the nurse thing, I seriously am starting to think that my Docs are a load of rubbish. My Docs back in my Uni town were fantastic.

Ozzie Oh don't, I started crying when I was listening to 'All by myself' on the radio the other day. It was a bit Bridget Jones apart from no vodka or wine. It can be hard to start thinking of disaster clauses for wills and who kids will go to. My Mum said we would all go to our God parents. Now at the time (I was about ten) I wasn't that impressed as I didn't like my God parents. I made my Mum promise not to die. So far so good!

Fulham I bet you can't wait to meet your LO. It must be getting very exciting for you now (also a bit uncomfy).

fudgecat · 19/03/2010 13:46

Hi all

First of all I want to send a huge apology for not posting in a while ? I have just been so knackered by the time I get home from work that dozing off on the sofa is about as much as I can manage

hermya you must be quite annoyed with your mum but I guess its just because she is so excited for you. Will this be her 1st grandchild?. We still haven?t told anyone that we are expecting, well DP did have to tell his boss to change his hours for my scan last week but he has promised to keep it to himself. From what you have said it sounds like your work will have a sweepstake going for when you have the baby

bunnygirl Congratulation on being an official pregnant person your private health insurance sounds good its nice that you get to make a lot of choices about the care you will receive and who will be looking after you and your bump Can you request a minibar?

pixie i have taken to eating Nutella on toast i have convinced myself that it is good for me as it contains milk and therefore calcium and therefore must be beneficial to the babys development
I?m not surprised you were cross with your friend for saying that, I had something similar down the pub the other week. The nosey-old-bat-in-residence spotted I was on lemonade and just came out with ?are you pregnant?? complete with making bump shapes with her hands. Oh and she was right over the other side of the room at the time, so this was at the top of her voice, I could of punched her for that. Grrrr

spirael glad to hear you are feeling better now

whiteroses I don?t think I have seen and photos of my mum when she was expecting me, I will have to ask her when we have told them. LOL as you boss laughing at your bump We are not religious either so won?t be doing the christening\godparent thing either.

fulham enjoy your last full week at work how much maternity leave are you taking?

pepperoni your massage sounds great, I think I will have to treat myself at some point

chance how are you feeling today? Sorry about your MIL, it?s good that they have caught it early tho. Let us know how she gets on.

bunnygirl ozziegirl and pepperoni my DP is coming to Sydney tomorrow on business for a few weeks so if you see a lost looking English chap give him a hug for me This will be the longest we have been apart in 13 years

Anyway I went for the private scan this morning and it was really good, the little bean is twice the size it was last week and we saw and heard the heartbeat. It was much more thorough that the emergency scan last week, she checked the yolk sac and the womb lining and seemed happy with how everything looked. She has dated me as 8+1 which would fit if it was going to be a 30 day cycle. She also said that the chances of anything going wrong from this stage were very small

Have updated the stats with my new EDD

CurlyCasperReturns · 19/03/2010 14:23

sorry lovely ladies - I've been rubbish and now it will only get worse. Just agreed sale of house and now I have to find somewhere to live. I'm going to stop making empty promises and just say that I'll pop on now and then, try to catch up, and let you know how things are going. Reckon I'll be back properly come the end of May when I finish work.

Take care all

DesperateHousewife21 · 19/03/2010 14:38

Hi all, havent been on in a while, just stopping by quickly to say everything is fine with me and baby Dylan, hes kicking so much every day its so nice!

Trying to arrange finances and whos getting us what and things we need to buy and looking through the thousands of car seats, prams etc. Makes my mind boggle and I just want to sleep

chancewouldbeafinething · 19/03/2010 16:47

Thanks so much for your positive thoughts - pains are fading mw says not to worry as still no bleeding. I still have all other pregnancy symptoms, smells making me feel like hurling, sore boobs etc. So i am just keeping my feet up, and it seems to be working!

curly you must be nuts - i hope you have some good packers to help you move I will be moving countries at 30 weeks, but have already started to pack things now (we have too much stuff)

fudge so glad your scan went well, and you could see hear the heartbeat and great to be told that it is all looking good in there

Hermya how funny are your work mates...at least they are not saying it all behind your back. everything is fair game in the cops isnt it?

roses oooh proper maternity pants, you must feel so much comfier now. That is one thing the midwife did say i should do, buy new clothes and make sure they roomy.

Sorry if i missed anyone, my brain is fried from daytime tv! have a great weekend xxxx

Hermya321 · 19/03/2010 17:22

I've just been speaking with one of the informed people who my family have managed to spread the news to, and I was saying 'oh we wanted to keep it quiet until after the first scan' and she was like 'oh get off no one does that anymore!' I don't know who she has been speaking to, but in my (limited) experience people do tend to keep it to themselves until after the first scan just in case. Hmmmm well there you go.

Sorry I've been a bit ranty lately.

On a lighter note, I cleaned my house today from top to bottom. I can see now why people become houseproud and literally have the hoover out everyday, and I do drool over the dyson adverts when I see them. I do admire people who keep a clean house, especially with kids. My Mum made sure our house was immaculate when I was younger. I wish I was like that, I just don't have that kind of dedication.

Desperate It's always nice to hear from you and little Dylan. How are you doing the whole buying baby stuff? I'm thinking the majority of my stuff will be bought off of ebay and the like.

Fudge I am annoyed with her, but am also annoyed with my sister who has been in on the act as well. I have random thoughts that I should just not tell anyone that I'm pregnant from now on and just wait for them to start wondering if I'm just fat or preggers. I might even just wait until the baby is born and then just shove a picture on facebook of the LO. It will be her first grandchild in fact. She's really excited, in fact she told me over the phone that she's already got some toys for it . In fact you've given me an idea, maybe closer to the time I might set up a betting pool for charity to guess the birth date of LO.

DesperateHousewife21 · 19/03/2010 17:45

Hi hermya well apart from things other people have given me (bodysuits, little outfits, bumper pack of wet wipes!) Ive got nothing haha!
We've had promises from DP's side of the family that they will give us their old stuff/ buy us something new but I need them to say for def if they are going to just so I can make a mental list of who's getting us what.
I know for a fact I will be buying the car seat so have been doing a bit of research on that.
I like to think Im houseproud, I dont like mess and I hoover regularly and keep the kitchen clean and tidy as I feel thats my space seeing as I do all the cooking , I have to be in the right frame of mind to do a really big spring clean though!

bunnygirl80 · 19/03/2010 21:33

pepperoni I hadn't realised you were in Sydney too! I don't know if you'd be interested but there is a Sydney MN meet-up on the 27th March. I think there will only be 3 or 4 of us, so it should be reasonably civilised! This is the thread if you want a look.

I doubt it will matter what notes DH writes for himself as he is always inexplicably drawn to the wrong lane on the bridge

The waiting period for pregnancy on our health insurance ended the day before I got my BFP - excellent timing by me I think!

fudge now you have mentioned it there will be a "small bar fridge" in my room!! Not sure if it's stocked though

Great news about your scan - I can't wait till I get to see my LO

I'll keep an eye out for your DP! Couldn't you have persuaded him to bring you over here with him? You could have had a nice time relaxing and sightseeing while he worked hard

Hermya You should poke the bump poker back and see how much they like it!!

As for your family - I thought it was still pretty much the norm to wait until after the first scan to make an announcement.

curly and chance all this talk of house moving only serves to remind me that the lease on our house is up 3 weeks after my due date. We will need to move to a bigger place as there is barely enough room for our stuff without all the equipment that a baby will need as well.

I finally got fed up of uncomfortable boobs and bought a non-wired bra yesterday. I've gone up more than a cup size already I'm definitely more comfortable without wires digging in me, but I'm getting a bit concerned that if this rate of expansion continues my boobs will actually explode

bunnygirl80 · 19/03/2010 22:17

Oh forgot to say before, Yorkshire hasn't posted for a few days. Hope she's OK

WhiteRoses · 20/03/2010 17:47

Hi everyone!

Bunny - I was the same, in that my mum knew before my MIL did. I did feel guilty, but at the same time, we had our reasons (my mum's ability to keep her mouth shut vs. MIL's inability to do the same!). I tried telling myself that there was no point in feeling guilty though, because we had our reasons, and MIL would never need to know that Mum knew first. Still... It's easier said than done, isn't it?! You just have to stick with doing what's best for you though. And while your mum may be a bit upset if she thinks she's been misled, I'm sure it won't take long before the excitement takes over and all she can think about is when/how often she can come and visit you!

Ozzie - you are in a tricky situation over the godparents, but also a very fortunate one, having two couples to choose from! You have a lucky LO!

Unfortuately though, I think I spoke too soon about the sickness clearing up. Back with a vengance! Still more energetic though, which is nice.

Fulham - a week and three days - not long now!

Hermya - at your work colleagues! Still, at least you can laugh!

Lol at you making your mum promise not to die! That was some good thinking!

Fudge - great to hear from you. What an idiot in the pub! What did you say?! I hope you're a good actress anyway! I'm rubbish but luckily folk around me were either less observant or more tactful!

EXCELLENT news about the scan too, and everything looking well! I was in hospital with a woman who had had weekly scans and at first I was a bit jealous. Then she told me she'd had to go through ten miscarriages in order to gain that priviledge, so I figured I'd rather be as I am! Still, she was showing me the differences, week to week, between the scans, and it was fascinating. I'm sure her LO will love looking back at that.

Congratulations on the house sale, Curly!

Desperate - totally sympathise with the mind-boggling pram/car-seat search! We've agreed to put it off for now! Glad to hear Dylan's making his presence known! (Sooo jealous! Lol!)

Chance - my trousers are just plain black ones out of New Look, only £12. Can't recommend them enough. Didn't like the jeans though - they were under bump ones, and when I bent over, a little too much was on show at the back! Lol!

Hermya - I don't know who that woman's been speaking to either!

About the clean house thing... I'm with you! Must be lovely to be so "good"! I've just been doing the bare minimum for the past three months! Lol!

Funny you should mention Ebay in your post... I've fallen out with them today! I bought a doppler, which arrived this morning, worked long enough for us to test it (listening to DH's heartbeat) and as soon as I put it on my stomach, it died! Apparently I can get a replacement now from the seller. BUT I have to pay to post the faulty doppler back to them! Thus waiting longer, and paying more, just to get what I should have got straight off in the first place! Is it me?!

Hmm, hope Yorkshire is okay... The tiredness is probably really hitting her now though, so that'll be why she's not been on! I used to post every day on the Conception thread, and then I started going missing for week-long periods at a time!

OP posts:
YorkshireTeaDrinker · 20/03/2010 19:48

Evening all,

I'm still here Bunny thanks for the concern!
Whiteroses your diagnosis was correct - I am knackered! Have been doing very little but work and sleep at the moment.

Just been catching up with you all. The beige food had me chuckling. I am stuck on a cereal bar, hula hoop and toast diet at the moment. I haven't been sick, but feel tired and nauseous all the time. I've also been really thirsty - anyone else noticed that?

Re Godparents / baptisims, it shouldn't be a problem to have a baptism here whilst living in Australia. My sister lives in Australia and had her youngest DS baptised over here. We haven't discussed it yet (far too soon) but I will be arguing for dedication rather than baptism. My DH is agnostic, I am Christian (currently go to C of E church, but am a denominational tart and will go anywhere! ;)). I think DH would be uncomfortable with a christening and I would rather our child made their own choice when they are old enough, so I think a dedication is a good compromise. I want the opportunity to thank God publically for my LO and a dedication is an opportunity to do this.

Hopefully I'll start feeling better soon and will be able to keep up properly. My lovely DH has just made me some toast and Heinz tomato soup - I couldn't finish the soup. Am worried now - tomato soup is ambrosia and nector to the feeble, how can I be too weak and woosy to plough my was through it? "Pregnancy is not an illness" - like hell it isn't!

pixiestix · 20/03/2010 20:08

Hi everyone,

Well, my scan went well, mostly - I have to go back again next week for another look at the baby as it was so uncooperative that the doctor couldn't do all his tests. I'm trying to convince myself that I just have a really naughty baby and that it doesnt bode ill in any way. I was so looking forward to telling everyone and now I have to wait another week!
It was so fab to see the LO though - and the doctor asked if we wanted to know the sex which amazed me as it was only my 12 week scan. I said "No!" very quickly before I caved in and changed my mind!
It was so sweet! I will try and get a photo up on my profile as soon as I can work out how!

Fudge - I'm glad that your scan went well too

Bunny - well done on being officially a pregnant person. I know how you feel about telling your Mum - I was very worried about what my Mum's reaction would be as well, but she surprised us all and is walking on air about the whole thing. There isn't any risk of your MIL letting it slip to her is there? That would be a real shame.

Chance - good to hear that you are feeling better, keep taking it easy and let everyone pamper you

Hermya - at the nurse saying you were not ill. I have felt more ill than I have for years with this pregnancy! I think your friend is wrong about the 12 week scan too - most pg people I have known have waited until it felt "safe" after the scan to break the news.

Roses - sorry the sickness has returned with a vengeance. I have felt so ill this weekend as well, where is our bloom?!?!

Fulham - you are so nearly out of there! I hope that your horrible boss gets you a decent maternity leave present to make up for being such a cow!

Right, I am off to wrestle with my profile and see if I can get the piccy up!

pixiestix · 20/03/2010 20:12

Cross posts with Yorks - it took me so long to write that! Glad you are ok, if a little green.

I think I have got the photo up on my page, let me know if no-one can see it!

WhiteRoses · 20/03/2010 20:26

Yorkshire - glad to be right! Thought not so good that you're feeling so rubbish... ""Pregnancy is not an illness" - like hell it isn't!" - lol! My thoughts exactly! And Pixie - never mind it being "years" since I've felt this bad - I've NEVER felt this bad! Was only whingingabout-- saying that to DH today! Major operations, severe food poisoning (that nearly killed my brother) - NOTHING compared to pregnancy!

I've just had a look at your scan, Pixie... GREAT picture! My LO stuck his/her arm too, but that's not what the picture shows. Unfortunately, the picture just shows him/her lying on his/her back, and isn't all that clear. Should really put it up, but need to scan it first...

Anyway, really surprised you got asked about the gender - does that mean you know now?

As for the baby not cooperating for measurements, etc. - mine wouldn't either. I just kept thinking "good on you Baby", cause it meant I got scanned for even longer than I normally would have - and you're getting a whole second scan - even better! Well done to our little rebels! I really am sure it's nothing to worry about though! Did they give you a new EDD or anything? Will that be next time? Or were you spot on all along?

OP posts:
pixiestix · 20/03/2010 20:35

Doh! Can't believe I forgot to say - they have moved me a whole NINE days forward!!!! So I am now due on the 24th September (only eight days after my birthday - Roses I think we are both going to have our birthdays ruined forever!)

So I am 13+1 today, and am so unreasonably happy about it - it puts me past the scary twelve week mark, and into my second trimester, and closer to not being sick, and closer to meeting my baby, hooray!!
Needless to say, DH was completely underwhelmed by the date change and couldn't understand at all why I was so happy!

WhiteRoses · 20/03/2010 20:49

Pixie - how funny that you're due 8 days after your birthday - that's EXACTLY the same as me! You and me are only due nine days apart now too - very exciting! You're now the closest-to-me regular poster!

Ugh, men! They just don't get it, do they?! You can pretty safely bank on all of us getting excited for you though, so don't worry! It's SUCH a big deal, a whole nine days! Expecially with what it (hopefully!) means in terms on MS disappearing! HUGE deal! Silly DH! (Mine would be the same!)

And EmsieRo on the July thread, due the 20th! So although they've not been on here, I've added their EDDs, just in case anyone else is interested, like I was!

Yorkshire glad you're ok. I'm still awaiting the onset of only eating beige food. In fact I'm cooking all of my favourite multi-coloured, strong tasting foods in preparation for the possiblity that I will go off them in a couple of weeks.

pixie I've told my MIL that my mum doesn't know, so I doubt she'll blab. They never really speak to one another anyway so I'm pretty sure the secret's safe

roses I think I'll pluck up the courage to tell my mum when I next speak to her. She's just one of these people that doesn't react well to surprises. When I announced that DH and I were engaged her response was "Oh (loooooong pause), well I suppose he seems nice" She got excited in the end but she never has a particularly good reaction to exciting news.

I'm starting to get really tired now - I've been off work this week so I've been able to nap if needed, but I'm working next week and I'm starting to worry how I'll get through each day. Woke up this morning feeling really quite nauseous as well - hopefully it'll stay as nausea and not progress to full MS.

DH actually asked me yesterday if my symptoms were just psychological I just don't think he believes that something that's not even a centimetre long can have such an effect on me. I find it hard to believe too - I wonder if I'd never tested if I would just put the tiredness and sickness down to a bug and soldier on through rather than lying dozing on the sofa by 7:30 every night.

Just as a vague thought - it's nice that we've got the future grads list, but the mix of people on the TTC thread has changed loads, and there are now a reasonable number of regualr posters on there who aren't on our list. I wonder if it makes us look a bit cliquey if we have a list of people we're expecting to join us? So I was wondering whether we should try and update the futures list, or maybe remove it so the newer frolickers don't feel left out? Or am I just being a bit oversensitive about the whole thing?

Roses - I knew you guys would understand!

Bunny - I've thought that about the list too. There are people on our list who haven't posted on the Conception thread for months. I wonder if we should take it off entirely?
As for going back to work next week, I sometimes find that I actually feel better at work than at home. I eat more regularly, and my mind is on a hundred other things so I can't feel quite as crap as I do when I am just lying on the sofa. Hopefully that will be the case for you as well!

Hiya all, it's ages since I've been on so thought I'd pop in and see how everyone's doing. There's loads more graduates now which is great! Hope everyone's well.

I just finished work on Friday as I've got holidays to take and haven't really had time to sort things out for baby due to working full time. Will now have time to get stuff done hopefully! Bit scary finishing work but got loads to keep me occupied. Finally got round to painting the baby's room yesterday and away to head off and give it a second coat. Looks a lot brighter than the picture but will be nice and fresh anyway.

Desperate I know what you mean about sorting out with family if they're planning on buying stuff. You just want to know exactly what you still need to get so you can go out and get it. I'm a bit of a list writter though so I like to make sure I've got everything written down so I can go out and spend.

Hermya We have gotten quite a bit of stuff from ebay as there's certain things I don't see the point in spending loads on if they're only going to use it for a couple of months. We were really lucky that my friend gave us her pram as she was finished with it. It's saved us loads of money and we can just buy a lighter one later on when the wee one's bigger.

And we also waited until after our 12 week scan before telling people! Didn't even tell family more because my MIL and sister wouldn't be able to keep quiet!

Well only 5 weeks left to go until my due date. Bit scary but actually still seems like miles off. Will hopefully be a bit more of a regular poster again now I'm finished work so will keep you all updated if you're interested. Better go for now, just realised how long this post is.

DesperateHousewife21 · 21/03/2010 11:08

trying4baby1 I am a list writer too, I really want to make a list of whos getting us what and then what we need to buy etc!

I have found the pram/car seat I want too. Im getting it off kiddicare website its a graco travel system about £250 and they have a sale on which only lasts another 2 weeks, so really do want to know if MIL is helping us with the cost so I can go ahead and buy it.

Trying4Baby1 · 21/03/2010 12:48

desperate Yeah I know what you mean. With me the problem is my mother who has been buying lots of things for her own house just in case the baby comes round but hasn't offered to help us out with anything. She just keeps telling me not to buy stuff as I'll get gifts, but I don't want to rely on someone maybe buying me things I know I'm definately going to need.

Everyone else has been great and has already asked what we still had to get and have told us what they'll be helping us with. None of it is stuff I need straight away from day one as I don't want to get stressed that I don't have everything I need in the house before I go into the hospital. I know I'm a bit of a control freak but just in case something happened like I needed a section I wouldn't want to have to try and get to shops to get anything. It just gives me piece of mind to know I'm getting organised.

I'm a bit of a bargin hunter too and actually bought my cot two months ago just because I got it nearly half price in the mothercare sale. If it hadn't had so much money off I wouldn't have bought it so early.

Hello all

I braved my first NCT Nearly New sale yesterday - it was madness. About 100 people were queuing up before the doors opened then it was a crazy dash to be first in. Managed to pick up some really cute newborn clothes and a lovely baby shawl, so have now purchased my first babythings .

Trying - the first graduates baby, so exciting! It must be lovely to have reached that milestone of finishing work.

Bunny-can't believe your DH asked if your symptoms were psychological, he should try growing a human being, whilst developing a placenta all with ten tonnes of hormones flooding his system! I found the tiredness was pretty debilitating in the first trimester, if I could get some fresh air at lunch time I could just about last till I got home for my nap .

Hoping all of you suffering with sickness feel better soon.
