...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Good luck today fudge, try not to let your work get to you, right now your little bean is def the most important thing right now and thats what you should be focusing on.

Ive just come on to have a little moan so please bear with me. Ive had a sodding cold for over a week, Ive tried drinking hot lemon and honey, smothered myself in Vicks and almost permanently have a Vicks inhaler stuffed up my nose, now its all focused on my throat, its blocked up with phlegm (sorry tmi) I dont know whether to go to docs, is there anything they can even do? LO seems to be fine, hes frolicking around in there just fine!

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 08/03/2010 12:06

Morning all,

Fudge and Hermya really sorry to hear about your anxiety. Although hearing that you (and ozziegirly are experiencing pain that could be ligament pain is a bit reassuring, as I am in exactly the same boat. I've had a pokey sort of ache on the left hand side of my lower abdomen for about a week now (pretty much since I got my BFP) and I'm starting to panic about a possible ectopic. I know its probably all v normal and nothing to worry about (I have no bleeding, so nothing to worry about there at least) but it doesn't stop me feeling anxious. The eleation of the BFP soon subsides, to be replaced by incredulity, anxiety and, at times, blind panic!

I'm feeling very pleased that I've got my booking appointment with the midwife brought forward. Have now only to get to 8+5 before seing a health professional. Just 3 1/2 weeks to worry through.

Here's hoping all our little beans are going to stick and make it safely through to delivery.

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 08/03/2010 12:19

fudge after that shitty email work don't deserve to have you in today. Take the day off, put your feet up and look after you and your bean.

DesperateHousewife I don't think there's much your GP can do about your cold. They can't do much at the best of times, even less when you are pregnant. Might be better to go to a pharmacy and see if they can reccommend any decongestants that are suitable for pregnant women.

Have you tried the head over a bowl of hot water solution? NHS Choices advise:

"Inhaling steam from a bowl of hot (but not boiling water) may help to soften, and loosen, the build up of mucus in your nose. You may also find that adding some menthol crystals, or eucalyptus oil, to the water, helps to ease your symptoms of catarrh."

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 08/03/2010 12:21

Actually Desperate you might be best talking to your GP - you're not supposed to use decongestants for more than a week!

Hermya321 · 08/03/2010 12:53

Fudge Personally, I'd take the day off work if you can. Don't let them pressure you. I went into work yesterday ONLY because I knew I was going to be doing very little yesterday (not because I'm lazy, it was just going to be that type of day). It was very quiet and I was able to sit and just get on with a few things. How did it go anyway?

Yorkshire To be honest, I'm trying not to be too worried. Although the thought that I can't physically influence this situation bugs me, I know that I've done everything that I can to make sure I'm happy and stress free. At the moment I'm sat at home watching mindless television and am drinking decaff tea.

Desperate They might be able to help with some decongestants free on perscription, it sounds like you at the end of your tether. I hope you get some joy there.

I'm finding a lot of peace from my faith at the moment. I've been praying a lot for this little bean. It makes me feel that I'm actively doing something to try and help things along. I know this may not be everybodies cup of tea and I respect that. I just wanted to share what was helping me not to freak out at the moment.

Oh and my Mothercare catalodge arrived this morning.

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/03/2010 12:58

Thanks yorkshire and hermya I will check with my mw on Wed as Ive got my 22 week app then anyway and see what she recommends. Ive been using the Vicks inhaler for more than a week! I doubt ill get a docs app before Wed anyway so may as well wait til then and see mw.

DrewsGirl · 08/03/2010 18:48

Hey Ladies,

Just a quick update, i havent been on for so long, busy with work and so on ... I made it onto the MIA list in the TTC thread. I just wanted to let you know i got my BFP on 4th March !! So thank you to everyone who gave me advice whilst i was on here.

There were a few names i recognised from over there Hermya, Fudge & Yorkshire congratulations Sorry if there is anyone else from over there that have had BFPs since i went awol. Congrats to you all to x x x

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/03/2010 19:25

Hello drewsgirl! congrats on your BFP thats great news

fudge how did your app at the docs go earlier?

fudgecat · 08/03/2010 20:14

Evening all

desperate so sorry to hear about your cold, the only thing i can suggest is to reduce the amount of dairy you are eating at the moment. I once read that dairy products can increase the amount of mucus that your body produces, may be worth a go for a day or so.

yorkshire and hermya i went in to work this afternoon, i must be a sucker for punishment

drewsgirl Hello stranger you are forgiven for being MIA thanks so much for letting us know your news, has it started sinking in yet?

Right today... Went to the docs and she was lovely she poked my in the tummy to make sure there was no pain and made me pee in a jar to check for urine infections (all clear). She has booked me in for a scan on Thursday morning so not too long to wait to find out what going on. Went into work after the appointment and they soon shut up when i said i would need time off on Thursday for a hospital appointment. I think at that point they may have realised that i wasnÃ?Â?t just pulling a fast one
Good luck for tomorrow Hermya

chancewouldbeafinething · 08/03/2010 21:42

Hi All,

Sorry have been MIA - ridiculous work schedlue has died off now. But aussie visitors arrived on sat, so have been busy being tour guide.

Not feeling the best, been to the docs today think i have a UTI, got some antibiotics which i am a bit worried about taking - they seem to be working though so maybe i wont need the full 7 days.

Sorry to hear i am not the only one under the weather. fudge good to hear you got a scan booked quickly, my fingers are crossed it will be ok.
yorkshire I think we all had a fair amount of those types of pain early on, i imagined it was the bean getting stuck in there. If you are not bleeding then that is a good sign.

hermya good luck tomorrow, you are taking good care of yourself and getting plenty of rest so i am sure it will all be fine, will be thinking of you and the bean xx

drewsgirl great news! Congrats

Sorry if a missed someone (i havent read back too far) but i hope everyone else is fine as well.
Still didnt tell you about my MW apt last week - she was lovely and |I still havent had a chance to read all the stuff she gave me. Or look at my bounty pack. will update later.

Take care - sending out lots of sticky thoughts xxxx

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 08/03/2010 22:01

Congratulations Drewsgirl that's fab news!

Pidgin · 09/03/2010 06:49

Congratulations on your bfp drewsgirl!

Glad to hear your doc was nice, fudge, and that you can have a scan soon. Hope you are feeling OK.

Desperate, sorry to hear about your cold, that sounds rotten. Pregnant immune systems are rubbish by all accounts! Hope you feel better soon.

Hermya hope all goes well with your appointment today - let us know how you get on.

And ozzie practically everything I read in a pregnancy book has the potential to make me think that! I went for dinner last week with some friends who don't know we're pg (no-one knows yet in fact) and the first course had poached very runny egg in it, and the second soft goat's cheese ... and the weekend we got the bfp I ate a very bloody steak without realising IYSWIM. I suppose you have to take some 'risks' and trust your body to be OK (within limits, I guess!).

I have a huge long day at work today and would love to stay in bed ... definitely getting the pregnancy tiredness!

Pidgin · 09/03/2010 06:51

and Yorkshire glad to hear your appointment has been brought forward - I'm not sure when I'm seeing a midwife, I seem to have left the doctor's without finding out. She was sending off my hospital booking form and I guess I'll hear from a midwife when that's sorted. Would quite like to have it settled though!

DrewsGirl · 09/03/2010 07:27

Chance, sorry i missed you out on my hellos and congrats!

Fudge, It kind of has im not sure, i have to ring the doctors today as i only registered Friday as i hadnt had one since i moved so they couldnt book me in straight away, so i havent officially been told in pg yet. My SIL is about 2 weeks in front of me and she said it wont start sinking in until i start being sick.

Pidgin, its hard having restrictions on food, i had to buy lunch yesteday at work and all sandwiches had egg or mayo in them, those are the 2 things everyone has said not to eat but its so hard you would think asda would make at least one sandwich for pg women!

Desperate, i came down with a cold & sore throat last night and all medicines/tablets in my cupboard say dont take when pg! Can the doctor give anything?

Hope you are all well! x

Hermya321 · 09/03/2010 07:52

Congrtulations Drewsgirl I had wondered what had happened to you. With regards to mayo and egg, as long as the egg is fully cooked you're fine, mayo is also fine unless you get homemade stuff because the egg in shop bought stuff is pasturised. So tbh I think you'll be ok with a shop bought sandwich.

Fugde I'm glad you've got a scan on Thursday, fingers crossed everything will be fine.

I know that pregnant people have vivid dreams and I've heard lots of reports of people dreaming of fantastical adventures and some rather naughty ones.

You know what I dreamt about last night, well I dreamt I was at work. I think I need to get out more.

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/03/2010 10:01

fudge its good the doc managed to get a scan for you, not too long now then. Thanks for letting me know about dairy! I had no idea and have been drinking milk by the pint and yoghurts etc as I read dairy is good for the baby! I think (fingers crossed) the cold is on its way out as I dont feel as bad as yesterday and hopefully some fresh air will do me good today as I stayed in all day and slept in the afternoon as I just felt so rough.

Thanks pidgin I am feeling slightly better today

chancewouldbeafinething · 09/03/2010 14:00

Hi all...was looking in to see if Hermya posed..fingers are still crossed xx

I am having a horrible day today - cant keep my head out of the toilet. i managed to drag myself to work, only to spend most of the morning in the toilet...i actually had someone follow me to the toilet wait for me to throw up and then continue to ask me questions when i got out...that was the last straw...i went home. now with my feet up watching phil and kirsty!

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/03/2010 14:39

drewsgirl Im seeing my mw 2mo morning for my 22 week app so ill ask her then, tbh I think the cold is on its way out, it seemed to be at its worst yesterday and now its just a cough to get all the nasty stuff out my throat.

pixiestix · 09/03/2010 15:52

Chance Thats so gross! You poor thing!

Congrats DrewsGirl - I think we crossed over a little bit on the Frolickers thread. How are you feeling?

Glad you are feeling better Desp Hermya - hope that you are alright and that today went well. Thinking about you.

I'm soooooo tired today, I could just cry

Hermya321 · 09/03/2010 15:58

Hello all,

Well just to let you know, I am indeed pregnant, there is a baby in there that has a little heartbeat and kind of looks like a jellybean. The midwife at the EPU was very nice and they examined me and basically they can't find any reason for the bleed. On the whole though everything looks as it should do. It was very strange seeing that little blob that has taken up possession of my uterus with it's little heartbeat flickering away. Strange but kind of cool. The sonograhper was lovely and gave me a picture. Although at this point it just looks like a blob within a blob. I'm really relieved though and to celebrate me and my friend went shopping which was lovely.

chance Thank you for popping in, how are you feeling now? Good job you went home, I hope you have an easy day and evening.

Desperate I'm glad you're feeling better!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/03/2010 17:19

hermya glad everything is ok for you, must be such a relief and seeing a heartbeat is the best thing in the world! Congrats

fudgecat · 09/03/2010 20:23

drewsgirl you are fine with the mayo in supermarket sarnies and stuff in jars like hellmans Ã?Â? its only the homemade stuff that you should avoid

desperate im glad to hear you are feeling a bit better today

chance they followed you to the toilet?!?!? Thats shocking

pixie early night for you i think with a nice cup of hot chocolate

hermya im so happy to hear your news did they just scan you or did they also do an internal exam? Sorry for the personal question, im just wondering what to expect on Thursday

I have had an ok day, my boobs are aching like mad and have been feeling queasy on and off all day so that can only be a good sign. DP has managed to change his hours on thursday so he can come to the scan with me which is good

Hermya321 · 09/03/2010 20:29

Fudge They just did a scan on me, I was dreading being offered the dildo scan tbh. But, after six weeks they can see things with the external thingy ma bob. It was really cool seeing the flutter on the screen of the jellybeans heart. I'm still smiling now. I hope everything goes well for you on Thursday.

NovemberAli · 09/03/2010 20:55

Great news Hermya, fingers crossed it's all plain sailing now, good luck for Thursday Fudge, I'm sure all will be fine

Big congratulations to Drewsgirl and Yorkshire - yay for more graduates!

Ah, it's a girl Grumpy congratulations!

Have been totally thrown by my manager today, she came in for a nice chat and then casually dropped in,"you might want to think about not having too long off after the baby's born because I will find it hard to justify that you are indispensable if you are off for too long and keep funding your contract, but it's entirely up to you", - is it just me or is this thinly veiled blackmail?!

Ozziegirly · 09/03/2010 22:18

Well, November I think that's not very thinly veiled! I would say, if she mentions it again "well luckily the legislation in place protects my employment rights, and I haven't made any decisions about when I might return to work yet" and leave it at that.

No one has asked me yet, but I plan just to say that i will decide closer to the time. They have to hold my job open for a year here (with no pay!) so I don't have to decide earlier.

Hermya that's great news that you have seen a heartbeat - my Obs has said that once you have a little heartbeat confirmed in there the risk of miscarriage decreases significantly, so that's excellent. Oh and at dildo scan. I haven't had one of those yet, thank goodness, but that is how I shall refer to them from now on.

chance - I can't believe someone followed you in to chat between vomits! It would be funny if it wasn't grossly innapropriate.

All fine with me, nothing new really. DH is being extra lovely at the moment, I think now that I have a small bump it seems more real, and he is constantly asking Pip (which is what we have called the baby) how s/he's doing, whether s/he enjoyed his dinner, or generally hugging me and the bump specifically - he's become a right soppy fool, it's really nice.
