...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Sorry to hear about your SIL Worrisome, I think you are doing the right thing in concentrating on yourself for a while, it must be a very stressful time for you all.

Hoping everything goes well for you today Fulham, will be thinking of you.

Good news about your scan Chance, that must have taken a load off your mind.

Have my 12 week scan next Friday - very paranoid and nervous. Trying to let myself get excited about it but just so worried something will be wrong, the next week can't go fast enough!

WhiteRoses · 12/02/2010 12:58

Hi Curly - glad you're back!

Ozzie - can't believe you've just described that Egg McMuffin. I logged in first thing, feeling queasy, and that was NOT good to read! Actually, I think Egg McMuffins are haunting me! There's an ad every morning on the radio about them when I'm driving to work, and I keep having to switch the radio off. This was my morning off (working late shift today) and there you are, describing them! Lol! Anyway, hope you enjoyed it!

Worrisome - sorry to hear about your SIL. How awful. And your cold. Still, passing the 6wk milestone is a big step forwards. Not so good about the nausea. I don't seem to have the hunger symptom, but I think that's because I'm eating constantly, "just in case". Though it's not really "just in case". Fall asleep for a couple of hours, wake up, and if my stomach's empty, I'm really sick... Oh, roll on 12wks for SO many reasons!

Fulham - that's shocking over how work's treating you. Good on you for hanging in though. Horrible!

Ugh, sorry to hear about you having to go into hospital... But, as you say, you've felt her move. That's the main thing. Good luck and let us know how you get on. x

OP posts:
chancewouldbeafinething · 12/02/2010 23:20

Hi All,

fulham I hope you are at home resting, and everything went well at the hospital.

Worrisome Sorry to hear about SIL, make sure you take time for yourself, and hope you are over the cold soon.

November I hope this week goes really fast for you, fingers crossed it will all be grand

I was only just telling mum that i am PG roses, we just wanted to wait to make sure it was real before we told anyone (i think we also enjoyed just us knowing for a while). Also my mum is a bit mental when grandchildren are involved - this will be her 10th! She is really excited, her words were 'I have been waiting for this' in fact I have told 2 of my brothers and my sister now as well, and they all said much the same thing. I feel like i have spent hours on the phone. We are going to see the in-laws this weekend to tell them in person. Its going to be bitter sweet for them because we still plan to move back to Oz in August, and this will be their 1st grandchild. That is going to be tough all round i think! but we will just have to organise holidays for them.

I should probably bet trying to get some sleep, strangely not tired tonight. Have been eating like a horse all day though.

Hope everyone has a good weekend xxx

WhiteRoses · 13/02/2010 11:21

Hi Chance,

Wow! Ten grandchildren and this is your first! You must come from a big family!

I can understand why you wanted to keep things to yourselves for a while. We told my parents and sister immediately. Held off telling MIL because she'll broadcast it, but we were going to tell her after the scan two weeks ago. However, she's just had too much on since then, so is still none the wiser. We'll tell her now whenever we get a chance, maybe next week, and will hope that she practises some level of discretion. If not, it can't be helped, and we'll have learned our lesson for next time! It's a bit awkward really. Feels like we're favouring my family, but it really isn't that... Oh well. She need never know that they knew first anyway. They ARE good at keeping quiet when asked!

So does your DH have any siblings? As you say, I'm sure your in-laws will be over for plenty of holidays. Meanwhile, it'll be nice for your LO to have so many cousins to grow up with.

Hermya - cross posted there! Glad to see you've found us! So how're you feeling?

OP posts:
WorrisomeHeart · 13/02/2010 16:20

Congrats Hermya that's brilliant news! I had my suspicions reading your symptom-laden posts on the other thread!

Well, seems like SIL is now getting the psyche help she needs so crossed fingers all will calm down there. My cold is still horrible and I seem to have developed sciatica (I think) - horrible pain in my hip and thigh. Ended up calling NHS Direct last night but they weren't worried, just told me to ice it, take some panadol and rest up. I'm going to take myself off to the docs this week if it doesn't get better as I think I may need some physio. Surely it's way too early for all this carry-on!!

On the plus side, we had someone around to look at our bathroom this morning which is exciting - we're having the whole thing ripped out and replaced - I think it's extreme nesting! Is anyone else undertaking major renovations before their EDD's?

Ooh and more exciting news - got my scan date through the post today - 29th March, so very excited about that. And we got the forms through for the NCT course too (can you tell I'm hyper organised?!) So I'm really starting to to feel excited about this.

God sorry, this has turned out to be really me, me, me! Enjoy the rest of your Saturday everyone!

CurlyCasper · 13/02/2010 19:00

fulham I hope your hospital appointment went ok. I really don't get how they can take away your chair. I've had a whole load of H&S audits and am getting a new chair. On trial at first, but if I like it they will buy me one for permanent use. I supposed the fact that I now have confirmed SPD helps.

SPD aside I'm doing ok. Had planned to work until three weeks before baby is due, but I guess it will all depend on my health.
I finally met my community midwife this week - took long enough! My Downs risk factor was 1 in 11,000 - so I'm pretty happy about that. Though I'm all to aware, through the experiences of a close friend, that any one of us can be that "one".

welcome and congrats hermya! Love that we are half and half now.

Worrisome - if it helps I have been through the same with my own SIL. Several attempts. She got the help she needed and I am glad to say she a few years later she is now happy, healthy and living a full, independent life. If you need someone to talk to about this just CAT me.

I know I've still got more catching up to do - I will try, I promise.

Hermya321 · 13/02/2010 20:36

Thank you for all your congratulations, I can't beleive that we're half and half now.

At least now I have a reason as to why I've been inhaling pringles at an rate of knots. I'm still feeling sicky, but thats to be expected isn't it.

I went out and bought some more victimins today, was quite exciting in a weird way.

I've got a question, now I know that people still experienced AF type cramps in the first few weeks. I just want to ask that if along with that if people got sharp pokey pains as well. I've been getting these on and off today. I had a big temp spike today as well. So am wondering if the LO is still digging its way in there. Anybody experience similar?

Oh yeah according to Fertility Friend my EDD is 24th October.

Worrisome I'm getting over my shock and am starting to feel quite excited but at the same time a little bit scared that it'll all go a bit Pete Tong. I'm sorry about your SIL, at least she is getting the help that she needs.

Hobnob76 · 13/02/2010 21:47

Huge congrats Hermya!

Well hi ladies,

I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow! Sorry I've been absent, my sickness has been horrendous this week, I've been throwing up serveral times a day and feeling sick all day. I feel so tired all the time too, but I'm now on half term hols for the next week, thank goodness. I've got my 1st midwife appt on Tues, not quite sure what to expect though.

Unfortunately because of my sickness, most of my work colleagues now know I'm pregnant as I've been very 'green around the gills' but everyone is thrilled for us.

Ozziegirly · 13/02/2010 22:59

Whiteroses sorry for the food description - I promise not to post any more!!

Hermya massive congratulations, that's wonderful news, really great. Welcome to the thread!

fulhm hope you're doing ok, and it's just growing pains?

Worrisome I"m so sorry to hear about your sister and hope she can get the help she needs.

Well I went and had a look at maternity clothes yesterday! I don't really need anything yet, but my work skirt is getting a bit tight, as are my gym trousers, so I was really looking for a replacement for them. Came back without them, but with a new top though

I have found one shop with loads of lovely things, so I'll be going back there once I have a bit more of a bump. I'm coping fine at the moment - things are a bit tight around the waist but I get by with a " belly band" on my jeans. I don't want to buy loads but equally I do want to be comfortable.

Luckily it will be winter here when I am further down the road, and I have quite a lot of vaguely baggy winter clothes anyway, so hopefully won't have to spend too much.

pepperonipizza · 14/02/2010 05:30

Hi All,

Just checking in. Glad you're all doing well and congratulations to Hermya! Hi Fulham!!

Hermya - I did have periody-type pains and some sharp stabby pains (especially when I stood up quickly, I still get those occasionally now) in v early pg. I think it's stomach muscles starting to stretch and relax, etc.

Not much to report from me, all fine. Re. maternity clothes, I've had to buy more this week as I optimistically thought I could get away with only buying a few bits and wearing my normal tops, etc. Not to be! My belly's starting to get too big and there's a gap between most of my bottoms and tops. Not a good look! I have a bump band thingy to cover up the gap, but it's been so hot here that I haven't fancied wearing extra layers! Ozzie - I have ordered from UK websites (ASOS has a brilliant maternity section, and Blooming Marvellous, which you can get a mumsnet discount for too). It seemed to work out cheaper to get things shipped from the UK than to buy things from any of the nicer shops here (have bought a few basics from BigW and Target but wanted some nicer stuff also. I've found Pumpkin Patch to be okay too).

Otherwise I'm just dying with excitment of what's to come!! Only 14 weeks til due date and I can't wait! Have most baby things ready now and our pushchair arrived this week, it's lovely!

Hermya321 · 15/02/2010 09:07

Hello all,

Still feeling very crampy, but no spotting so I assume all is well in baby world.

Pepperonipizza Thank you for your info, it made me feel so much better.

How is everyone else today?

fulhamgirl · 15/02/2010 09:42

Morning guys.

First thing first. I am fine thank u all for your well wishes. She is really tall and im really small if u c what I mean. Her dadddy is tall so she is going to take after him completly. She is really strething my ligarments and my body cant really deal with it causing me the pain. But she is fine her heartbeat is perfect she is now moving loads.
Got midwife on Thursday so hope to get a lot more results in. My pelvis as well seems really small so I might have to have an x ray at 35 weeks to check. If it is to small I will have to have a c section that week which is 10 weeks away not even that. So pretty nervous. At least I know everything is ok though thats the main thing. !!

pepper- OMG 14 weeks youve just entred your last stage now then. U must be getting excited? Im one week behind u ive got 15 weeks well 14 weeks 6 days lol !!
We got a bugaboo I cant wait its pink lol my OH didnt really have much choice. Has your midwife told u to have your bag on standby now? I know its early but they told me to have it by the door now dunno if thats tempting fate because she is not fully cooked yet lol. So excited for u though. I think your the first one due outta everyone on here posting.

ozzie- Oh the clothes thing I dont have much at all clothes wise I have my work uniform I wear 5 days a week and I have 4 t-shirts and 2 pairs of maternity jeans, 1 dress and 1 nice top for parties ect so im really low on clothes. Its a waste of money really the time goes so quick when your at work. Its differnt for u though cause I can get away with jeans and a big coat. My size 16 coat has now decided its not going to do up though very helpful. U will see a massive growth spurt when your around 18-10 weeks all of a sudden u just bloat out over night very strange.

hobnob- Heya hun. Ooooo im with u on the sickness part I suffered so badly within the first 13 weeks was horrible I was sick on the train, all day when I was at work and then at night was like 24/7. I lost alot of weight as well which was a little worrying had to have vitamin supliments. But I know how your feeling. Thats how my work mates guessed I was preggers cause of the way I would have to run to the toilet. !!
Try polos they helped me.

Hermya-heya hun massive congratulations. U must be over the moon. Very excited and nervous feeling. How did u find out? Did u miss a AF or was u having signs? So if your due 24/10/10 how many weeks are u? lol sorry the maths is awful. How u feeling? I did get cramping pains when I ifrst found out I think its all to do with the implantations process because its like having a period. U will probly find u still get them kinda symtons now and again around your due date. Nothing to worry about but always go see your doctor if u are. And also dont worry if at first the midwife takes ages to contact u and in your booking appointment she is not fussed happened to me and I was like oh is that it I was so excited but as the time goes on u will find the more hands on they get!! When I got to around 18 weeks they check the heartbeat etc u can hear it as well amazing feeling.

curly- Hey hun. I know they are trying to get me out but really will not ive lasted all through this cold weather so now we are entring spring I will be so angry with myself if I leave to early. So glad your downs risk was low mine was that as well. But it is true we are in that percentage but its so small. You love them all the same anyway. U cant tell by the heartbeat etc if anything may be worng so u have nothing to worry about. They would pick it up before even if they cant tell the baby has downs they would pick up something was abnormal so your be fine.
weeks hun that is pushing it. I think 4-5 weeks before is ok only because of the tiredness of travel and things. Aprrantly towards the end where your so big u cant sleep and just want them out lol. Good luck though even when my lttlen is here I will be checking up on you all.
So when does your maternity start then?

chance- heya hun wow 10 grandchildren must be mad at xmas lol but at least they have alot of cousins to grow up with. On the other side it will be very hard for the other grandparents if you are moving away if its thier 1st grandchild u will find they spoil the baby rotten. Has your OH got any siblings at all? Or will u only be proving them with grnadchildren? Very hard though.

worry- Hey hun. So sorry to hear about your SIL. Rest up babes. And again the sickness I suffered with as well so I do feel for you !! Just keep your fluids up if u can and take vitmains. I knwo the thought of food turns your tummy as well.

november- Roll on FRIDAY lol. Aww I bet u cant wait cant wait to hear from u. Your be fine is amazing u wont be able to sleep the night before. I was excited on my second scan more I think just because we wanted to find out the sex of the baby and u can see so much more. But when u go for the scan your be so amazed its a baby not a blob lol a baby get the tissues ready lol. Second scan though is so emotional.

white-Heya hun- Hows the sickness with u? Wwhen is your first scan? Have your recieved your letter yet?

xxxxxxxxxxxx

WhiteRoses · 15/02/2010 13:35

Hi everyone,

Worrisome - glad to hear your SIL is doing better. Sorry to hear you're still feeling rotten though. I hate NHS24. I've had two experiences of them. Both bad. Once, in the middlle of the night when DH said he was freezing, the heat was radiating off his body, and his arms and legs were like ice and he was shaking like mad... They said he had a cold and he was to keep warm and drink plenty of fluids. Actually, his temperature was far too high. That's why his limbs were cold - they'd "switched off" and his body was doing its best to look after his torso, where all the important organs are... A warm body and cold limbs is a dangerous sign. Anyway, totally the wrong advice. Then my aunt phoned up not long ago too, because she'd had a really heavy period (if you could call it that - the blood was literally pouring out of her) and she was feeling very unwell. She was weak, had chest pains and pins and needles in her left arm. Was told to take Paracetamol and rest. When she later went to A&E, they immediately checked her heart and she ended up getting an emmergency blood transfusion, tablets to stop the bleeding, and was kept in for nearly a week. I don't think I'd ever bother calling them again. Grr!

Worrisome - we've just had our loft all floored off - going to make a little study up there and create a bit more space downstairs. We're also planning on having the kitchen done. It's really awful. Same as when we moved in and although it's clean and new, it's SO stupidly designed. Loads of wasted space. Anyway, that's something we'll do before September but no rush yet. Other things to save for first! Otherwise, I don't think there's much to do... I'd like a new bedroom carpet, but only cause I don't like the colour of the one we have. And I'd also like new wallpaper in the hall. But they're just little things that we'll get round to eventually. I think the kitchen's the only thing that really bothers us.

What's NCT? Great news about your scan date.

Curly - great news about the Downs test. DH and I are currently disagreeing about whether to get tested. We've both been in agreement from the beginning that we wouldn't terminate, regardless. So DH thinks testing is pointless and that we might end up worrying unnecessarily throughout a healthy pregnancy if we're told there's a high risk. Because it's only that - a high risk, not a definite thing. I, on the other hand, would rather know. Because, when our baby's born, I want it to just be a happy occasion, with nothing to spoil it. And while we'd come to terms with whatever we had to, and would love our baby regardless, it would be quite a shock. I'd rather prepare myself beforehand, deal with the shock, and then, when the baby's born, simply count fingers and toes like any other mum...

Hermya - I had the sharp pains too, especially around 4-6wks. AF style cramps, and then sharp, shooting pains. Now, I seem to have them less, but still get them if I move suddenly, stretch, cough, or maybe sneeze. Not to say I don't still panic when it happens, but I think it is probably pretty normal!

Hobnob - sorry to hear about your sickness. I'm 9wks today. Hopefully it'll soon pass for both of us. Dunno if your midwife appointment will be the same as mine or not, but mine just involved going through forms, mostly. Do I smoke, do I drink, do I do drugs, have I ever done those things, has DH, have I ever had an operation, when, any problems with it, have I had Chicken Pox, do I want the Swine Flu vaccination, do I feel I have someone to support me through the pregnancy, does DH abuse me, am I on Folic Acid, do I have a permenant home, can I read and write okay, etc., etc. Lots of box ticking. Also had my height, weight and blood pressure checked, and was given what seemed like dozens of leaflets away with me, as well as a book and a DVD about breastfeeding. Was also given contact phone numbers and names. I think that was about it, really. Oh, she asked was there any history of problems in pregnancy or with births on either mne or DH's side of the family. I couldn't really answer that properly but she said they'd just fill it in some other time, that it was no problem. Hope that helps! I'm sure it'll be fine anyway. I hope your midwife is nice. My new one seems lovely.

Lol, Ozzie - I'll forgive you! I'm just ridiculous when it comes to anything remotely food-related. I know it's all in my head but I just can't help it!

Lol at you going out for gym trousers and coming back with a top too! I'm quite looking forward to shopping for maternity clothes. I'd been holding off buying anything new for a few months while ttc, because I kept thinking I might not get the wear out of it! So, as a result, I feel like everything I own is all old and shabby. Not REALLY the case, but still... I'll enjoy my new stuff when I get it!

Fullham and Peperoni - so soon! How exciting! Whoever's first will need to start a "First Time Frolickers And Their Babies" thread, so we don't lose touch again!

Fullham - I'm delighted to hear all's well with you. How do you feel about a C-section? Are you disappointed or do you care? You'll still have your little Lilly in your arms at the end of it all, and that's the most important thing.

I notice a few people seem to be going for Bugaboos. Why is that? I'm still clueless. Feels too early to be thinking about prams when I'm not even past 12wks yet!

I think I'm lucky with work, in that I always seem to be with different people, and, if I'm feeling particularly bad, I can go and be on my own. So I don't think anyone's guessed yet. And there was that bug doing the rounds too, so loads of people were a bit off-colour anyway. Fingers crossed I won't be "outed" till I'm ready!

My scan is two weeks tomorrow. I can't wait! I'll only be 11+1 though, so am really hoping there'll be something to see. The 6+5 scan was very blurry. Mind you, I don't really care. I just want it all to be okay.

I was reading somewhere that sometimes a heartbeat can be heard on a Doppler at 9wks. I'm seeing the midwife on Saturday, at 9+5. Do you reckon there's a chance she might try and have a listen? When did you all get to hear the heartbeats? I soooo want to know it's all alright!

Also, when did you get proper, recognisable little bumps? I seem to get fat at night, but don't think anyone else would notice.

Hermya's updated EDD...

Oh, and did everyone have a nice day yesterday? As my DH said, that's the last time for a long time that we'll have the chance of a nice romantic day - unless we ship our LOs off to their grandparents'!

Haha white thats what my OH said as well but nanny and grandad im sure would love to her her on 14th feb next year and the year after that and the year after that !!
Mine went a bit bad. I cooked a lovely meal for when he got home from playing football for him to be stuck in bed all day with a tummy bug !! He still aint to well bless him I did mother him a bit yesterday though so I bet he is acting onit now.
I got a nice bunch of pink flowers though!! Last year I got a massive bunch with a balloon this year the romance has seem to have disapeared a little lol.

I am disapointed about the c section to be honest with you but its a waiting game for me, I dunno wether or not its going ahead. I do have to be careful slipping and things cause she is in an akward position apprantly but her head has always been down which is a good sign she will come easy to me and on time. I have to wait 10 weeks before I find out wether or not that will happen unless I go into labour early.

U can hear the heatbeat at 9 weeks but they are so small sometimes can be hard to detect and they dont want to scare u if they cant find it if u c what I mean cause just because they cant detect it doesnt mean there is n e thing wrong so they wont wanna scare u. Im sure if u request though they will tell u this but happy to give it ago. When I went to the hospital on friday they put a tracking device on her but she was still to small for it to work properly they said u shouldnt really use one until 28 weeks so just goes to show u how much fun they have playing hide and seek up until 28 weeks lol.

The bugaboo I think there are 3 kinds. Ive got the carlia bugaboo (spelt very wrong lol). Its like got different functions etc worth having a look at it to be honest. Nar its not to early to be thinking like that as soon as I had my 20 week scan I went out and brought the cot and pram lol !!! Thats not that long away from u now. The time is going to quick 2 weeks will be here before u know it and then youve got a shorter time to wait for your second scan only 8-9 weeks

xxxxx

Hey Fulham, no bag ready just yet, but I probably need to think about it soon! I need to get a couple of nighties with buttons down, cheap pairs of pants, etc.!

fulhamgirl · 16/02/2010 10:15

Awww im really excited for u pepper- are u getting a little nervous?

xxxx

WhiteRoses · 16/02/2010 18:39

Hi Fullham,

So do Nanny and Grandad live nearby? That's nice. Our furthest immediate family live 40mins away and we all drive, so it's not really a problem. Incidently, how did you decide On "Nanny" and "Grandad"? I don't know what our LO will call its grandparents yet. Seems dead hard to decide!

Aww, your poor DH! I hope he's feeling better now?

It's frustrating having to wait to find out about the C-section. But at least you're being well monitored and they know exactly what's going on, eh? And, as you say, head down's a good sign.

See, I think with the heartbeat thing, I wouldn't be surprised not to hear it, but if I did hear it, it would be really amazing and a real weight off, so for that reason, I'd love for her to give it a go... Can totally see why she'd be reluctant though. And I've also since read that the skinnier you are, the more likely you are to hear it. My BMI is within the normal range, but I wouldn't say I was at all skinny! So another reason she mightn't want to try. Suppose we'll soon see.

Pepperoni and Fullham - you must both be getting really nervous and excited! It's nice that you're due so close together. I wonder how Trying's doing - she's not been on here in a while... She should be first up!

Hi guys, just popping in quickly between pancake batches!

Am pleased to report that SIL is doing much much better and has started talking to a solicitor about the situation, so really pleased about that. Thanks so much for all you support over the last couple of weeks all! Curly thanks so much for the CAT offer too.

Cold is on it's way out which is good too although I did have a call from the m/w today saying they'd had the referral from the GP and were a bit worried about my BP. I've got to go in and get it tested twice over the next week or so and give them a call back with the results so they can see if there is actually something to worry about. I was really impressed actually - I've not even had my booking in appt yet, so I'm glad they're so on the ball about stuff.

roses NCT - National Childbirth Trust - they run antenatal courses. Apparently they are a great place to meet other mums and as I don't really know anyone in the area let alone any other mums here, it seemed like a great idea! I think we'll probably go to the NHS classes too.

Also, glad I'm not the only one embarking on major renovations before bump arrives - must be all those nesting hormones!

Oh and am about you and your aunts NHS direct experiences, that's awful!!! I found them ok actually, but I think thats because I was being paranoid mummy-to-be rather than having something really serious wrong.

hermya I also had all the poking cramping pains too - especially over the week when I should have been on AF. It's not been so bad recently - more like sharp poking every so often. Nothing to worry about I think, especially if there's no bleeding.

hobs Sorry to hear you've been so unwell, but exciting to get to 8 weeks!

ozzie am very about you buying materity clothes! I was drooling over the Mama's and Papa's site yesterday and trying to convince myself that it was sensible to buy stuff now because it was on sale.. even though there's no semblance of a bump yet!!

pepperoni what pushchair did you get? How exciting! I think we're going to get a M&P Sola, but still need to go and look at it in RL.

fulham glad to hear that the baby is strong and moving well - and at least even if you have to have a cs then you'll be mentally prepared for it, rather than having an emergency one. Hope the appt on Thurs goes well.

We had a very unromantic Valentines Day - visited SIL and then went to McDonalds!! Actually, that was great - I really fancied some chips!!

Anyway, hope everyone is having a great week!

Hello all on this lovely rainy day.

Firstly Hermya CONGRATULATIONS!!! So happy to have you and your fabulous mascara over here! I knew it after all of the symptoms you had. I have had some pains too, hopefully it just means that it is really getting stuck in there.

fulham glad to hear you are both ok, hope she stays in there until she is until she is fully baked!

worrisome hope you are feeling better

November I just found out I have to wait until Friday for my scan too. So I know how you feel...cant come soon enough, I am just worried about how I am going to keep a full bladder when I have to go to the loo every half hour Only all I am going to see is a blob, you are going to see so much more...very jealous

Curly great news on the results!

Hobnob hope you are getting over the dreaded MS

Well I had a fairly awful weekend, telling the in-laws was not as wonderful as it could have been. At first I wasnt sure if they were just in shock, but we actually think it might just be they are upset with us about moving away. We brought champagne and made a big deal of it, there was lot of tears and of course they were happy. But I just felt bad for DH that they were not more excited about it all. I understand they are upset, we both expected that. But tbh it felt like his aunty was more excited than MIL&FIL were, BIL said he is not sure if he is ready to be an uncle (he is almost 31)!
I think i feel bad because my family were the opposite (my dad was singing on the phone when he found out), but then again its not the first time it has happened on my side. We are the first to do everything on his side, even though he has older cousins none of them got married, a couple have kids but they are quite far away and dont have a lot to do with them. I feel quite meh at the moment.

I am looking forward to the scan on Friday, cant wait to see the lentil!

Hope everyone is has a good week xxxx

Ozziegirly · 16/02/2010 22:15

chance that's a real shame about the in-laws. And sorry, but "not ready to be an uncle" is just rather pathetic!

When we told my parents, both were thrilled, but DH's parents started planning their trip over here straight away. My parents on the other hand, who had already booked a trip out for November (3 months after the baby is due), although they said they would be happy to come for the birth, said that they didn't really want to change their holiday to come out here earlier as it was nice to miss the English winter!

Now, obviously I don't expect them to come twice, but I thought it would have been sensible to change their holiday to, say, early October so that they can see their grandchild - but no, apparently having a nice weather holiday is more important

And I am their only daughter, and this is their first grandchild!

Mainly I am a bit sad for them as I think when the baby is born they will really regret that they are not coming for 3 more months.

Right first things first, hello everyone!!!

Secondly, Peter Kay at the brits, did anyone see it? Personally I'm glad someone said what we've all (at least in my mind) been thinking for years. Then again, I love Peter Kay he's a man after my own heart.

So catch up time, I've now done six pregnancy tests and they were all positive. I don't think I'm hallucinating and I've ruled out the drugs aspect, so I must be actually pregnant. The feelings of shock have worn off and it's now been replaced with a sureal kind of fear that it will all go a bit Pete Tong. I'm constantly knicker checking at the moment, I must look like I have a weak bladder although I am peeing all the blinking time. I'm going to install a telly in the loo just to pass the time better.

Also nausea is kicking up a gear and I've been forced to resort to eating stem ginger cookies and drinking bottlegreen lemongrass and ginger squash all day. It seems to be helping at the moment, but the nausea is getting worse so I expect full on MS to kick in within the next few weeks. I've also had some crazy cramps, but talking to others (and you lovely people) that seems to be normal. My boobs are made of glass at the moment as well, so not so much fun on that score.

Also my hand has been forced and I've had to come clean to work today. It wasn't as bad as I expected, it just now means that I have a big health and safety cotton wool blanket protecting me and LO now. I know you may be wondering why, but my job has aspects to it that could be harmful to expectant Mums. I was going to keep quiet but I spent all day Monday worrying to death. So I took some advice and came clean. But, as my work place is the answer to Heat when it comes to gossip I've had to come clean to family as well so they wouldn't find out over facebook. Although I love FB, it's a tool for evil in the wrong hands (mainly mine).

My MIL cried when she heard the news, I haven't actually told my Mum yet as she didn't have her phone switched on. I ask you what is the point of having a mobile if you can't be contacted on it. So that is a job for tomorrow morning. Ah well! Such is life.

Has anyone ventured onto any of the more monthly antenatel threads as well as this one?

Fulham Ow, that doesn't sound nice for you and your pelvis.

Whiteroses Awww I bet you can't wait for your scan, are you going to pop the piccies up so we can all be nosy?? I bet you're well excited. I had a great valentines day, I sat and did nothing and watched DVD's with DH. Always a good thing? How was yours?

Pepper How exciting!!!

Worrisome Your midwife sounds great!! I'm glad they've got moving on the situation with your SIL.

Chance Me and my fabby mascara are glad to be here, if you haven't guessed it. I have a make up obsession. I follow the make up muse on the internet and was very excited this week to hear that benefit were going to launch a Concealerholic set. I'm already looking for a place I can purchase it. So far not so good, but I shall persevere!!! I'm sorry your in laws didn't react the way you expected. Being pregnant is a time for celebration and sometimes people can't look past the implications on their lives to really key into the simple joy of those who are expecting. I'm sure they will come around though, be paitent with them. If you still feel angry with them (and you are pretty justified to, it was a big let down for you as you had built it up in your head for them to be as excited as you are. It's never nice when things don't happen as we want them to) you know you can always talk to us or your parents. Also on the other hand your BIL isn't ready to be an Uncle, what in the name of all randomnosity is he going on about? [confussed]

Ozzie I'm glad your parents were thrilled, it's a difficult situation they're in isn't it. I hope it all works out.
