babyducky · 16/01/2010 11:46

starshaker

I have been eating loads of fruit aswell, i went off it completely when I was pregnant with ds.

I had 2 mangos for breakfast yesterday, going to tescos in a bit to stock up on more, think I will get a pineapple aswell & maybe a watermelon, yum!

KayloHalo · 16/01/2010 11:55

Mmmmm, pineapple.....

I don't have any of that - good job Asda/Tesco's are 24hr - I can nip in after work!!

think ill make some spicy red pepper and lentil soup tomorrow mmmmmm.

Does anybody know if i need more folic acid since its twins or is the usual amount enough?

Chulita · 16/01/2010 13:40

I've been craving fruit too, not as impressive as starshaker though, mostly oranges, grapes and plums but they taste so good!
Red pepper and lentil soup sounds delish

Chulita · 16/01/2010 13:46

I take it as pregnant ladies we shouldn't eat Hollandaise sauce?

neenz · 16/01/2010 13:57

Hollandaise - if it has raw egg in it then no, but anything out of a jar will be fine. Just be careful with home-made stuff.

Alice, that is great about the home scan! Lucky you. You know once you see a heartbeat you have a 95%+ chance of successful pregnancy .

Liaghen, that made me laugh about the mw, that she thinks you know the drill by now. I should think you do.

Star, I just took the normal amount of folic acid with my twins, it never occured to me to have any more. Impressive fruit haul! I am making sure I have at least three portions of fruit a day but can't say I am particularly enjoying it. Pineapple sounds yummy though, might get some of that this week.

Had a little lie-in this morning. I feel so much better when I am not so tired.

Chulita · 16/01/2010 14:04

I've never actually tasted it, just fancied trying it after seeing some cookery programme yesterday. But raw eggs...I guess it'll wait til July/August then

girlsyearapart · 16/01/2010 14:18

fwiw I majorly craved fruit with both the dds but not as much this time. Maybe it's a having a girl thing?? [oh what will I do with a boy baby emotcion]

Heathcliffscathy · 16/01/2010 14:21

could I please join you ladies...due August 14th with my second (ds is 6)?

I am really really grooving on green grapes! big fat firm ones.

pointysaysrelax · 16/01/2010 14:36

congrats, soph!

ElusiveMoose · 16/01/2010 15:04

Hi Sophable, come on in!

Re the folic acid, don't know anything about twins, but I do know that we're nearly at the end of the time we need to take it anyway. They say 12 weeks to be on the safe side, but I think the relevant bits are pretty much developed by the end of 10 weeks. So I'm sure you're fine, because hardly anyone would know they were having twins by 10 weeks, so the recommended dose probably takes into account the possibility of twins. (Hope that makes sense.)

aendr · 16/01/2010 15:50

Well, having chased up my lack of a booking appointment yesterday - well, left a message on the midwives' answering machine - just got a phone call now (Saturday!) and have appointment for Tuesday, and she's faxing the hospital about the scans. Apparently the paperwork the doctor gave me should have gone to them and the paperwork I should have got, he forgot, so I have to nip to the clinic on Monday to pick up the form to fill in ahead of Tuesday. At least, having gone through this once before, I knew I needed to prod.

Welcome sophable.

KayloHalo · 16/01/2010 16:07

Hello and welcome sophable aendr - Good news about your appointment.

Re FOLIC ACID I would imagine that the normal suggested dose would be fine even if you're expecting twins - not many people find out prior to 12 weeks how many babies they're carrying. I took my last one today as I am 12 weeks today - woohoo.

Girlsyearapart Interesting theory there with the cravings for fruit - it actually rings true to me too - with dd (1st pg) I craved satsumas and fresh tomatoes. With ds I craved cheese and onion crisps and pickled onions
Craving fruit this time so I wonder...

What is hollandaise sauce

Hi All

I had my booking in appt this week as well which wasn't particularly exciting and only lasted 20 minutes - my pregnancy book advised it would be 2 hours?! Have a few issues with hereditary essential hypertension, so although my BP was normal at the time the MW still wants me to be overseen by a consultant. Oh well - Better safe than sorry! At least they're watching me.

MW couldn't get a vein up to take blood from me so will have to have the blood tests when i go to the hosital for the scan. Had my scan date confirmed for 1st feb which i'm pleased about tho will be 13 wks by then.

I too have been having fruit cravings, can't resist strawberries and blackberries at the moment! i also think i'm eating far too much bread but i can't seem to get enough of it at the moment. very odd.

bouncingblueberries · 16/01/2010 16:53

Oh interesting theory on the fruit cravings girls. I've been having a fair few fruit craving this time but with ds it was mainly curry. However, I've also had curry cravings this time and I did crave tinned pears with ds. Hmmm. Might need to work on that theory a bit!

aendr · 16/01/2010 17:08

Hmm, well I craved fruit smoothies and ice lollies with DS and was put off chocolate and with this one, so far curry and lemon cake.

Chulita · 16/01/2010 17:10

kaylo it's a sauce with eggs, butter and lemon juice - I watched someone make poached eggs on english muffins with bacon and hollandaise, looked delicious
tasty nums
I craved salt&vinegar with DD, fruit this time but s&v does it too...I also loved, loved, loved cleaning sponges

Aussieng · 16/01/2010 17:14

Mmmm eggs benedict. This is when I feel very glad that we have our own chickens. All vaccinated so soft yokes etc still on the menu mm mm mm

Chulita · 16/01/2010 17:16

I'm not giving up soft yokes cos I love 'em. I'd also love having my own chooks but hey ho, all in good time

Aussieng · 16/01/2010 17:18

Chulita I have a slightly different POV in May-June when they are eating all my bedding plants but other than that love them.

bouncingblueberries · 16/01/2010 17:58

Our very good friends have chooks and we live chook-sitting them - except that morning sickness and chicken poop really don't mix all that well! Amazing eggs though and a fair few double-yokers!

Alicetheinvisible · 16/01/2010 18:00

Neenz that is very comforting to know

I have gone off eggs entirely.

This pg is different to my last. With DD i just didn't ever fancy anything, would only pick at stuff and only if it got put in front of me. Completely went off meat, gravy, chocolate and used to eat yoghurt, apples and salt and vinegar squares.

This time i have a very healthy appetite, have been sick a lot more but feel less queasy, and crave something different every few days. I can also go food shopping which i just couldn't do last time.

I am also shattered this time, but last pg i was working as a waitress, still competing one horse and mucking out 3 every day. I'm sure it is because i was fitter then.
