Hi everyone and welcome newbies.

Gutted to hear Tiany's news . I'm glad your DH is taking good care of you.

Had my booking in appointment. I was so hoping that they'd be able to listen for a heartbeat with a doppler but the midwife said it was too early to try . Had a bit of a chat about birth options, whether I smoke crack or have psyschiatric problems and that was about it. I just want a medical professional to tell me that I'm pregnant! Is that SO much to ask?? Went home in a sulk and and POAS and up shot the preggers line straight away so I am officially mad and paranoid. Only 3 more weeks till the scan so I am going to think positive and wait.

I am feeling a bit nervous about our ski trip next week. It was all arranged before we got the BFP and we are taking 4 friends with us so couldn't cancel. I am a good skier so as long as I stick to easy runs and away from the crowds I should be fine but I'm wondering if I'm mad to ski at all. Surely the bean is cushioned enough that even if I fall on my bum a couple of times it will be ok? I have seen so many different opinions on Mumsnet that I dare not fire up the debate but its so hard to be confident in your decisions sometimes.

I have just been out for a client lunch and ate a huge bowl of crab linguine. I am wondering if anyone will notice if I sneak off to the sick room for a snooze

Nikalah · 11/01/2010 15:41

Hey vix206 I'm a veggie too! Suffering bad all day MS and have gone off pretty much all food. I usually eat quite healthily but can't even look at a vegetable at the moment.

Fortunately I am eating some fruit, at least an apple a day & yesterday managed a handful of nuts. I did buy some solgar prenatal vits as was worried about not getting enough nutrients but they were making me feel worse.

I have my scan, bloods etc. on Thursday so hopefully if there is an iron deficiency it will get picked up then.

neenz · 11/01/2010 15:46

Hi Sam, I'm near Liverpool - Formby . I haven't had my scan date through or even my booking in appt yet! Very frustrating, but hopefully it will come through for the end of the month.

I am also very thirsty and I have to take a sandwich to bed with me for first thing in the morning, but I find if I have a piece of toast before bed that I don't wake up so hungry.

Monster Munch sounds for me!

sam86 · 11/01/2010 15:56

hey neenz, where will you be going for your scans etc? im going to have the baby at the womens, but am having my scans at aintree coz its a bit closer to where we live. i had my appt with the midwife on the 5th (tuesday) and then got the phone call on the friday from the hospital with the appt- was amazed it was so quick! i think it took longer with my DD as we had all the scans at the womens.

my MIL passed away unexpectedly last Monday, she was only 51 and wasnt sick or anything so its been a total shock. the bump and DD are our only bits of happiness at the moment, so i am really loooking forward to the scan as it should lift DH's spirits a little. our DD is actually having a heart scan 3 days before it, as she has two problems with her heart so hoping that has some good news too.

im not wakin up too hungry but dont seem to stop throughout the day!

does anyone know any really small folic acid tablets? i took the pregnacare multivits too and they made me feel sick also, but im really struggling to swallow the damn things too! x

driedapricots · 11/01/2010 16:03

hi sam86 welcome...sounds like our situations are similar... our little girl was 2 a few weeks back and is VERY jealous....i'm praying for a miracle too
i'm really quite worried about coping with 2 actually...: KayloHalo I see this is your third - any tips??!

KayloHalo · 11/01/2010 16:27

Hello and welcome Sam

isn't it strange the things are bodies make us crave?

I'm really loving jacket potatoes at the moment with chilli, mmmmmm

Well so much for keeping babies on the low. DD announced at nursery that "mummy has 2 chocolate babies in her tummy and im going to be the daddy"

No idea where she has got this facination for the colour of peoples skin but trying not to make an issue out of it.

KayloHalo · 11/01/2010 16:45

Apricots My 2 are only 15 months apart so my tips would be always have a piece of fruit handy for the older and a jar of puree or a bottle of milk for the younger.

I never left home without making sure I had a bag full of good goodies. Not so keen on giving them milky bar etc to keep them quiet but it seems the rest of my family is they don't listen to me!!

Not really sure on other tips, think I tended to muddle through it!

Have to admit, I remember being pregnant with ds when dd was crawling/toddling around and that was tough cos I had no energy and SPD/Sciatica so moving any amount was painful - never mind chasing/huntin down an active dd.

sam86, if you just buy the Folic Acid tablets on their own they are tiny! I take the ones from Sainsburys but I know the Boots ones are miniscule too.

KayloHalo · 11/01/2010 17:10

I take the ones from Tesco and they're not huge either

Hi everyone,

Was after a bit of advice if poss please as this is tge first pregnancy for me.

When I was sick this am (within 2 mins of getting up) there was a bit of blood in it. Is this anything to be concerned about or just too much wretching?

Also.... I would have been on my second period this wed, today I have a pain not dissimilar to a period pain but it goes as far as my bum (sorry if TMI) and my bum and bits are sore for a few seconds (not really bad pain - just there).

When I went to loo after work I have pinky/brown discharge.

Is everything okay?

I am awaiting booking in with the midwide (another 2-3 weeks.)

driedapricots · 11/01/2010 17:15

Thanks KayloHalo ...and sleep deprivation??!! I must say i am in awe of you, 2 15 months apart and another on the way..wow!

Bewler you have my sympathy, i remember my booking in apt for DD1 - they seemed more concerned about warning me how domestic violence is common in pregnant women than congratulating me.... some maternity staff have a really patronising way of dismissing you as one of the trillions of pregnant women they've seen. Then, others are just wonderful.
Re the ski-ing i'd be really careful. i'm not a skier so you know the risks more than me, but personally i'd give it a miss this time..why not put your feet up, drink hot chocolate and enjoy the views this time!
Hurrah, almost made it thru the day...again with v little work done as concentration limited to MN chat, oops

Aussieng · 11/01/2010 17:19

Bewler I'm with the cold so am not skiing this year - going to Lanzarote instead . However, I can't go on holiday anyway until the end of feb by which time I will be 18/19 weeks anyway and poss showing.

At this stage, if not fed up with the cold I would happily ski. I had a few reactions to this from relative but none of them ski so they don't know what they are talking about - too much of their info is based on soap opera storylines imo. As you say the bean is well cushioned at this stage, plus there is the extra padding of the skiwear and I think the main thing is that you relax and stick to your capabilities on the slopes. If you get on the snow and actually find that you are tense then perhaps an early hot chocolate but other than that - have a fab time!

Aussieng · 11/01/2010 17:36

Oops - didn't realise someone (hello apricots) had already posted re the skiing. Like you say Bewler - not a topic to open a debate on on here so apologies.

I guess everyone has to make their own decision. I personally would happily ski up to about 15 weeks but I know that if smething went wrong I wouldn't rush to blame myself for skiing and make 2+2=5.

I'm jealous of anyone going on holiday right now!

KayloHalo · 11/01/2010 17:39

Hey Sparkle - from what I've heard this sounds normal as some women can still have period style cramps and some coloured discharge. It's not happened to me but I know a couple of other mums who've experienced it.

If you're worried - is it an option to request an early can for reassurance? If you ring the Early Pregnancy Unit they may be able to arrange an early scan for you.

Apricots It was bloody hard work!!! DD luckily was a good sleeper so wasn't really up in the night all that much, (different story when she was a newborn!!) Twas definitely hard work with ds as I breastfed him and was a hungry baby! he was up A LOT!!!

wasn't bad enough to stop me doing it again (although dd and ds are now 3 and 4)

BunnyBaby · 11/01/2010 17:40

driedapricots and sam86 were either of you on the Dec 2007 antenatal thread? My DS was 2 also on 21st Dec, I still say hello but not active on post-natal threads.

I love the Pret Avocado wrap, but didn't have Parmesan so made my own dodgy version with brown pitta and dairylea. It still tasted good enough for seconds though sounds awful. Ha ha

contemplating telling work this Wednesday as have scan and midwife check a week on Wednesday, so want to work from home. they're really good and I am a quasi civil servant so they will make it really easy for me. One good thing about leaving an investment bank!

PlantHasABabyBean · 11/01/2010 18:11

Liahgen will e-mail you tomorrow. What do DOula's offer? Apart from being at the birth?

This thread is moving so quickly today.

sparkle101 if I were you I would speak to your doctor/midwife or call NHS dircet. Probably nothing to worry about, but it's better to ask to put your mind at rest. It's ttaken me sooo long to read all the posts that you probably have already had replies by now!

Sam I bought my folic acid from asda and they are very small. The multivits made me feel really ill too, I am in the process of trying to find some chewable multivitamins to see if they are any better. I will let you know how I get on!

Good luck to those of you going away, we are hoping to get away in April, just a small break before the baby comes, as we didn't have a hoilday last year DP would love to go skiing, he usually goes a couple of times a year, and really wants me to try it, so maybe once the baby is a bit older I will have to try it!

Still feeling really ill, the bands are working, because if I don't wear them I am actually sick, whereas with them I just wretch a lot and feel constantly nauseas.

Hello to all the newbies!

It has taken me so long to write this that I will probably spend the next half hour reading all the catch up posts

Hollyoaks · 11/01/2010 18:47

kaylo just wanted to pop in and say hello from the May 2010 thread. Glad to see everything is going well. How are you feeling? Hopefully not as sick as I was and hopefully full of energy, its much harder when you've already got dc.

Hope you had a nice xmas and new year. Sorry to hijack the thread.

acatcalledfidget · 11/01/2010 19:20

Story to amuse {tho i apologise for TMI}...went to the loo at work earlier and as usual did the knicker check only to find a discoloured streak....raised heartbeat until i realised that the colour was BLUE and it was the fluff from washing my knickers with a dressing gown! Also am glad to say MS is back now that I am back at work.

BigMomma3 · 11/01/2010 19:38

Hi All. Anyone know how long it takes to get the results of the blood tests?? I had my 12 wk nuchal scan and bloods taken last week. I was told that I would get a letter with the results of the nuchal (combined with the triple blood test) but did not ask how long it would take (duh)!. Also been breathless so GP wondered if I am anaemic (am a veggie as well) so need the other blood results. It's a nightmare trying to get though to my midwife as no one ever answers the phones!!

I currently have cravings for carrots dipped in houmous and also french bread spread with Philadephia and green pesto, Quorn chicken slices, and sliced avocados. Absolute heaven and I quite often have seconds . Trying to cut out carbs has been a total disaster. Have cut out most dairy now (except for Philly!) and switched to soya milk which seems to have improved the terrible sour milk taste I have had which was driving me insane. Strangely I had cravings for mashed potatoes in my previous pregnancies which I now can't stomach at all!

girlsyearapart · 11/01/2010 19:56

hi everyone

keyboard driving me mad so am going now

TwinkleToes76 · 11/01/2010 20:08

Hi all, I haven't posted for weeks because I've been expecting bad news. Follow up scan today confirmed embryo but no heartbeat .

I really hope you all have trouble free pregnancies, pain free labours and beautiful babies to show for all your hard work in 7 months time!

SmileyMylee · 11/01/2010 20:09

I've read a couple of threads on multi vitamins. Does anyone have any idea whose are the smallest? I bought the Pregnacare ones and they were so huge I kept gagging on them.

I only took folic acid with my others but because I've been on a strict diet (obviously stopped now) I was just a bit worried I might be lacking in a few things.

Thanks

bouncingblueberries · 11/01/2010 20:10

I'm so sorry twinkletoes that is so sad. Take care of yourself. Do you have someone with you?

TwinkleToes76 · 11/01/2010 20:22

Yes I do BBB - my other half and my daughter and a large bottle of red wine so I'll be fine . Thanks for your kind words.
