Morning girls

First off I'd just like to say one thing:

Pickled Onion Monster Munch

Oh boy, did they hit the spot yesterday morning!

Welcome nervous and soontobefat - my top tips for coping at work are:

  1. Early nights
  2. Super early nights
  3. Going to bed as soon as you get home from work aka an extremely early night!

Seriously, I have also found that drinking lots of fluids and trying to keep lots of healthy snacks by my desk help a lot. Particularly melon slices, apples etc or anything refreshing. Lemon and ginger tea has also been a life-saver for me, along with trying to walk from the train station to my office instead of taking the tube or bus. That dose of fresh air really works wonders.

bunnybaby that is so funny - I need meat! You can't beat a good roast sometimes.

liaghen I think you may just have started a lime jelly craze. Damn you!

We pigged out on lemon meringue pie last night and it was divine! It was the first time I'd made it and usually I avoid making my own pastry, but it didn't turn out too bad. Threw some raspberries in with the lemon curd filling which made it taste almost like lemon sherbet - divine!

Just been on the phone to find out where my scan date is and spoke to a lovely lady. In fact, she agreed to make sure my appointment was the very next one she booked in. So I feel a little reassured that I will be scanned on time. 11 weeks today, so time is ticking on. Just need to make sure I can work my day off around it without attracting too much attention.

Anyway, sorry for the mammoth post! Hope everyone has a good day with access to lime jelly!

bouncingblueberries · 11/01/2010 08:59

One last thing: Anyone else cry their eyes out at Cheaper by the Dozen last night? I was sobbing! (and now want 12 children!! )

nervousandexcited · 11/01/2010 10:04

Morning girls

Thanks heaps bouncingblueberries! I had just made myself a lemon and ginger tea before I sat down to check this site and can whole-heartedly agree with you! I am telling my office mate that I am switching from tea because of "detox January". I also found chocolate ginger a complete life saver this morning - I remembered we had a new box left over from Christmas and although I have to admit to thinking that ginger was an old wives' tale it really worked! I had 2 pieces before I got in the shower and within half hour I could manage a bowl of crunchy nut! Result!

I have also been doing the train not tube thing in the morning because I am finding a crowded tube just beyond my capabilities. Even before I got the BFP I was finding the movement of tubes too much to bear (which sort of made me think I could be preggers)but now it's just out of the question. The train does mean a 15 min walk over ice which is a whole different dilemma but thank God for DH who bought me new wellies with adorable and snuggly welly socks!!!

Have a good Monday everyone.

x

Doodleydoo · 11/01/2010 10:08

Bouncingblueberries - good tips although there maybe some who have a large aversion to fruit (remember last pregnancy projectiling a pear - got it was awful and then had the same thing with a boiled egg 2 months later) although at the moment I can't get enough of some amazing satsuma's. They are amazing, amazing, amazing. That being said just ordered a bacon sarnie so am not being good at all!

Can't be as bad as me blubbing to Notting Hill the other night - lots of tears there. Hope you hear about your scan, am waiting for my midwife to call for a booking in session as am 9 weeks tomorrow so am keen to get the ball rolling too.

Hope you have a lovely day and actually thinking about melon slices now...............

neenz · 11/01/2010 10:14

Talking of crying - I cried during Gavin & Stacey on NYD when Nessa told Gwen she though of her as her mum! Now that's hormones for you

Doodleydoo · 11/01/2010 10:20

Ooh sky plussed it so haven't seen them, inspired me to watch it tonight! How exciting!!!!

nervousandexcited - buses did it for me, the smell, the movement and the crowds BOAK!

Tubes also gave me the feeling of being trapped - horrid.

Another thing ladies to bear in mind - last pregnancy I went to an airshow and completely flipped my lid, don't know why but kept thinking they were going to hit us (depth perception anyone?). Sorry a bit random for a monday morning!

Am so excited just found an uneaten satsuma at the bottom of my handbag........

neenz · 11/01/2010 10:25

Doodley, during my first pregnancy I started thinking every car was going to run me over!

mrsZaC · 11/01/2010 11:39

hey ladies, hope you had a nice weekend.

so sorry to hear about your loss tiany take care of yourself darlin'.

Got my booking in appointment date through for the 23rd of Feb!! excited I got my appointment but it's rubbish, AGES away i'll be over 13 weeks then and it says that I won't get a scan on that date but will get booked in...

Sooo jealous, my friend just got her 9 week scan (paid for at a private centre) all is dandy and strong little heartbeat. Have a wobbily every so often and think I'm gunna book in for a scan, it's £99... not sure though, cuz what will be will be and I think i should just hold out but I almost can't face the thought of a whole 6 weeks until I get some sort of peace of mind!

Not in a grand-old place the last couple of days, been feeling quite down for some reason...had quite a lot of twinges and abdomen discomfort so quite worried and it seems soooo long before I can know everything is ok, man time is gunna draaaaaaaaag.

Just had my second breakfast of the yummiest pret croissant ever - TASTY!

driedapricots · 11/01/2010 11:53

hi ladies
ugh, tips for getting through a day at work please.... am exhausted after waking at 4.30am (as usual with full bladder...) and then just could not get back to sleep before DD awoke at the unearthly hour of 5.20am...my eyes are closing!
i'm finding nibbling cornish wafers is helping but complete adversion to coffee means i can't rely on my usual caffeine fix ...help!
also just realised my scan clashes with major meeting at work, how do i get out of that one??!!

NichyNoo · 11/01/2010 12:12

So sorry to hear about your loss tiany

I'm 10+2 today. Had a doctors appointment last week and got my bloods back on Friday. Dr says all is OK except that I have a slightly high white blood cell count. She said this shouldn't be a problem although I did make the mistake of Googling...must remember to stay away from Google!

Still no symptoms - bit sicky, sore boobs. Keep getting some twinges on my left hand side. On and off for a few days now. Am also not sure if the bottom of my belly is slightly harder than usual and ever so slightly protruding...although I might just be imagining it

Am literally counting down the hours till my scan on the 19th...8 days to go. Am just hoping beyond hope that we see a strong heartbeat and healthy baby.

Am slightly jealous of all your food cravings I've gone off meat and veg (and other 'healthy' food which is strange as I norally love healthy stuff) but overall still eating less than usual. Although the thought of pickled onion monstermunch does make my mouth water...mmmmm....

KayloHalo · 11/01/2010 12:30

Hello guys,

Tiany so sorry to hear your news, take care honey xx

welcome to the rollercoaster Nervous and soontobefat

Have been reading all your posts since 10:30!! Can't believe it's taken me this long - you chatty bunch you

Found out a couple of days ago that my friend is pregnant too - due 5th September!! So excited, we share the same birthday and for some reason it felt inevitable to share another life experience as well - I have no idea, methinks the hormones are making me all sentimental and all that mushy stuff

Still not heard from my midwife so I rang the surgery this morning and they said they'll pass another message on to her, apparently the receptionist before only passed on my house number - even though I gave my mobile , anyway the house phone does not work, well the anwermachine anyway. I have no way of knowing if she's rung or not. I'm getting quite concerned now tho cos I'm 11+2 today and worried that I'll miss the dating scan. The receptionist today sounded in a tizz as well.

Ah well...

Still craving cherryade. Who was it that mentioned Monster Munch??? I want some now (NOW dammit) and the vending machines at work only do seabrook crisps. So have had to settle for some very stinky, very yummy cheese and onion crisps yum yum!

xxx

Hellooooooooo can I join you lot. Am jumping over here from the july lot. Had my scan and am now due on 5/08/10

Aussieng · 11/01/2010 12:41

Hello everyone & welcome to nervous and soontobe. Hope everyone has a good week.

Tiany - I'm so sorry honey. I'm glad your DH is taking good care of you.

Nichy I'm also lacking in the food cravings dept. In fact for a complete foodie, I'm starting to wonder if anything will ever be truly appealing again. Nervous some very good advice from Bouncingblueberries there on the ms front. I'd also say that if you wake up at 4 am and feel the least bit hungry do eat something. I've found it quite hard to do that but it does seem to help and agree with someone posting a while ago that not getting enough sleep makes everything so much worse. I've been having a hob nob with a cup of tea before going to bed (some suggested that they are quite good slow release energy) and they have helped with the 4 am waking up hungry side of things.

I'm investing in a teasmade so that I can have a cup of tea made right next to the bed if I do wake up at 4 am so that I don;t have to get up at all. Mum and dad used to have one of those when I was little - I thought they had been consigned tohistory but they are alive and well [nostalgic smile]

Anyway off to she sandwich shop to find the least unappealing sandwich they can offer - is anyone observing the "no deli meats during pregnancy" guidance? I'm a bit concerned but just do not have the time or energy to not rely on a deli sandwich for lunch.

Aussieng · 11/01/2010 12:42

& Kinnies too

driedapricots · 11/01/2010 12:59

oh no, not another rule! i've not heard of the no deli meat guidance...i lived on processed ham last time round
i'm off to wasabi for a lovely warming noodle soup...mmm comfort food!

Love the teasmaid idea..perfect for when BF thru the night too ;-)

bouncingblueberries · 11/01/2010 13:14

What an inspired idea aussieng! Brilliant!

I've been waking up at 4am not from hunger but from thirst. I know I'm not drinking enough during the day, but drinking before bed doubles the number of night-time toilet trips!

Only thought last night to put a glass of water by my bed to save making the trip to the kitchen - doh!

Hobnob before bed also a great idea. I've resorted to my childhood habit of having some "supper" before bed. A slice of toast and a glass of milk yum yum

ElusiveMoose · 11/01/2010 13:32

MUST HAVE CRISPS! MUST HAVE CRISPS! Curse you all with your talk of Monster Munch. I can see that I'm now going to be obsessed until I can lay my hands on some. Today has not been a healthy eating day. So far I have had:

One bowl of chopped fruit with full fat Greek yoghurt, honey and granola
One piece of toast with butter, cream cheese and marmite
Two slices of Victoria Sponge
An entire carton of cream of tomato soup with bread and hummus.

My excuse for the cake is that I went for coffee with a German friend this morning, and she bakes like a demon. Oh well, at least I've resisted having a slice of the banana and chocolate cake I made yesterday.

Re the deli meats, I'm only avoiding ones that are actually raw, like parma ham and so on. Have you found the FSA's site on eating in pregnancy? It's here, and I think it's really sensible. Here's what it says about cold meat:

"Some countries advise pregnant women not to eat cold meats or smoked fish because of the risk of listeria. In the UK, we don't advise women to avoid these products because the risk is very low. The risk of listeria is much higher with cheeses such as Camembert, Brie or chevre (a type of goats' cheese), and others that have a similar rind, or pâté, which you shouldn't eat during pregnancy. However, if you are concerned, you might also choose to avoid cold meats and smoked fish while you are pregnant."

Really feel for those of you with late scan dates. mrsZaC, are you planning on having the nuchal scan or just a dating one? TBH if it were me and I was wanting the nuchal, I'd consider paying to have it earlier just in case I needed an amnio or CVS, so that I could start the process as soon as poss. Whereas if you're just having a dating scan, then there's less urgency (though still very irritating and I'd be if it were me).

KayloHalo · 11/01/2010 14:30

Hey moose, great info on deli meats there - thanks!

I'm not a big fan of them myself, lately anyway, seem to be right off meats and stuff. Not like me at all!

Welcome kinnies

starting to regret those cheese and onion crisps now - daren't get too close to anybody at work in case they can smell my breath . Never Mind.

Is it hometime yet....

Oooh, on a brighter note - have booked a holiday today for 12th-19th June. I'll be 33/34 weeks so daren't go abroad but have booked a caravan in Ingoldmells, Skegness. Cann't wait - soooo excited. Should give me a rest before maternity leave starts as well since I'm planning on using a couple weeks holiday at about 37 weeks and having mat leave start at 39 weeks. Thats the plan anyway,

xxxx

mrsZac - I had my scan today but still haven't had my booking in appointment...could you be going that way round maybe?
I updated the stats because they knocked a few days off - I know it says July but DD was 2 weeks late and I just can't see this one squeezing out on time. The scan went well, I was relieved to see a LO in there, wriggling around
Just found out one of my friend had an mc at 6 weeks. Found out through another friend so I don't know whether to email her or not...

Anything good in the Bounty packs this time? Have no idea when I'll get mine!

mrsZaC · 11/01/2010 15:17

bouncingberries I've been super thirsty too, will drink a full pint of water over the night and still be de-hydrated in the morning!

elusivemoose your food diary sounds amazing - yum! especially the victoria sponge I'm slightly peeved too that I'm just being left to my own devices till 13 wks, not sure about the nuchal scan, not really super-clued up about all that stuff but I would think I'm lower risk since I'm 26, so hopefully shouldn't be a problem but like I say, not totally clued up. Thank goodness I've got mumsnet to keep my informed!

finally feeling stuffed -yey!

8:30am cereal flakes & blueberries
11:00am croissant with nutella
13:00pm lunch with hubby, minestrone soup (just veg) and 3/4 chicken pizza - yum!

lets hope that's me until dinner!

Just wondering if there are any other veggie mums to be on the August thread? Being veggie I always have meat aversion but I have found that I am starting to go off really good things like tofu now. Which is a fab source of nutrients, so I'm trying to force some own a few times every week.

I'm still eating for England, just polished off an apple and a cheese straw!

sam86 · 11/01/2010 15:29

hiya everyone, can i join in?!
im due 18th august, and live in Liverpool. am booked in for my first scan on 25th jan - v impatient tho, cant wait to see him or her, and really want to know what im having!

weve got a gorgeous little girl also who has just turned two in December. shes very jealous when i hold her baby cousin so im hopin by august she will be ok!!?

im obsessed with cheese at the moment, and was the same with Raimee - cheese pasties, cheese butties, cheese on toast lol. is it any wonder i already have a bump? (although it is more fat than baby i think!) xx

neenz · 11/01/2010 15:38

I think if you don't have a scan date through by the time you are 10wks ring the hospital direct and ask if the appt has been made. It may be the post has been held up cos of the weather or there may have been a mistake and you are not in their records. They will not mind you ringing. Just ask for the antenatal clinic.

If you are offered a nuchal scan then it has to be done at a certain time, before 14 wks I think, so you should definitely have your date through by then.

The scan date and booking in appt come through separately in this area.
