Hi everyone.

Haven't posted for a while, so just catching up! Had my booking appointment for the midwife yesterday - how long does that take??!

Other than that not too much to report. AM going to be telling my work tomorrow - which I am not exactly looking forward to, but figure I can't keep this quiet for much longer as I feeling like I am bursting out of all my work clothes, and some one is bound to guess soon anyway!

On the plus side, the sickness seems to be finally getting better, so there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Chulita · 06/01/2010 07:46

glaston the pool holds the heat in pretty well and you can buy a thermal cover which stops it from cooling down even more. We just topped up with a kettle every now and then. I was worried about that but it worked out fine, and made DH feel he was doing something
Good luck stac!
We've not got a single flake of snow here, not even a frost makes it worse that we were promised heavy snow last night...
I'm trying to decide whether to take a lovely friend to my scan or my brother. DH can't come and I can't decide who I'd rather have if it's bad news. I haven't known the friend long but she's lovely, and my brother is fab but he'd be holding DD whereas if he stays home he can babysit but then again he's seen me through some pretty tricky times...what to do, what to do...

GibbonInARibbon · 06/01/2010 08:13

Hello all and welcome Charltonette and Jbro

Wonderful news on recent scans! and enjoy yours today Stac

Some lovely names there, DH and I finding it hard to find boys names we both love rather than 'meh, it's ok'

Not sure if I mentioned but at our private 12 week scan the consultant was able to say the sex of the baby but at that stage it's 75-80% accurate. So now we kinda know what we are having but DH (who works with numbers all day) keeps saying 'for every 5 couples he tells one is wrong'

So now we have decided to not think about it and keep an open mind but it's so hard after hearing it at the scan!

Never had this with DD as we did not want to know what we were having although I was convinced was a girl and this time the consultant confirmed my gut feeling too.

Bloody hell I am rambling like a fool. Sorry

TishTosh21 · 06/01/2010 08:17

Me and DP like Dylan for a boy and roxanne or elsie for a girl but the girls names are not set in stone if we find something better we'll take it!

Good luck today stac!

Hello all,

Some really nice names! We've got more inspiration for girls' names.

Boys:
Anthony

Girls:
Elise
Elody
Amelie

We got the added complication of choosing a name that's easy to say in both French and English as I'm French and hubby is British.

Stac - enjoy the scan. Let us know how you get on.

Gibbon - wow, that's amazing about knowing the sex at 12 weeks. Understand you don't want to worry about it too much. I've heard that sometimes, even when revelaed at 20 weeks, they don't always get it right. As long as the baby is healthy I guess that's the main thing.

Kittykat - I know what you mean about telling work. I'm going to tell them next week. Got cold at the mo so not at work but have been wearing loose fitting dresses up to now as I'm starting to show. Feeling really demotivated by work, I keep thinking about the baby all the time

Have any of you decided or thought about where you want to give birth? Although I don't want a water birth (saw this mad DVD about women giving birth in different parts of the world and the thought of floating around in my own blood doens't appeal to me much

GibbonInARibbon · 06/01/2010 09:05

Lovely names raimata

Yes was amazed, he did explain that technically, at 12 weeks, there was nothing really to see as such, it is done by the angle of the genital tubercle.

I am honestly happy either way, healthy baby way more important than gender

CurlyCasper · 06/01/2010 09:06

tish I wasn't looking for "bits" as such, just trying a trick I read about on another site. I would be amazed if it worked, but with a 50/50 chance I'll never know!

I'm a bit superstitious about discussing names, however i am please to announce that my OH and I have finally agreed on a boy's name we both like. We started discussing this in June, well before I was pregnant and had completely opposite opinions on all boys' names so far. (we have a few girls' names). We had talked about finding out the gender to make the whole name decision thing easier, but now I'm not so sure. I think even if we find out I don't want to tell other people. But I'm fickle so might change my mind.

Good luck with today's scan stac. I can't wait for tomorrow, to see how much my baby has developed since the private scan we had at 7+5.

Glad to hear all went well Glastonbury. And well done on the bargain jeans. I was a bit annoyed in Next because the maternity stuff that was left seemed to be buried among all the other sale crap, and I did not have the energy to hunt!

thanks ladies, just wish it was time so nervous
Some lovely names, dp and i have agreed then disagreed for two years while ttc lol.

gibbons was that a private scan were they told you the sex? I would love to know but think i need to wait till 20 weeks

Hows everyone else?xx

OP posts:
GibbonInARibbon · 06/01/2010 09:50

Yes Stac was a private one and as he said was 75-80% so not a given

You ok getting to the scan with the snow? We had snowfall on my scan day funnnily enough

iggypiggy · 06/01/2010 09:52

cassie am with you - am v. superstitious abotu discussing names too - we did talk about it yesterday night for the first time tho!

tish your pic is excellent!

chulita and stac thanks for the comment on the pic - am surprised at quite how over excited I've become about it all after weeks of having my head in the sand

I have also realised that I might need to buy some new clothes... having bit of trouble with wearing my jeans cos the waist digs in when I sit down, so I end up undoing them ...

stac14 · 06/01/2010 10:38

gibbons the main roads are clear so it should be fine, more concerned about dp getting home from work in time so may just go pick him up. Also hoping that because of the weather the anti-natal clinic isnt as busy as it was last time I was there lol (hope that doesnt sound selfish) I read about the private scans being able to tell you the gender due to angle of the genetal nub or something (cant remember if thats what its called) Not going for a private scan just yet so will have to wait till 20 weeks.

iggy I had lost about two stone before I fell pg so have some of my old jeans, luckily they are still too big but hoping they will be better for later on, but think I need to go shopping too. I think its hard to know what to go for with this ever changeable weather lol

Morning all! Gosh there have been a lot of posts recently. Is everyone snowed in??

So glad the scans are going well, for those who have had them recently. Hoping everything is great for those coming up on scans too. My dating scan (at 13 weeks??) is a week today, I can hardly wait!

Some lovely names been suggested so far. I don't think there have been any that I don't like! DH and I seem to be leaning towards a longer name (three or more syllables!) for our DC, though obviously a standard abbreviation is likely to be commonly used, day to day.

We're still short on boys names though, so I might muster the courage and go post in the baby names area before sticking up an incomplete list here, to see if anyone can give me some more boys name ideas to run by DH!

Chulita · 06/01/2010 11:57

I'm down to one pair of jeans that fit but I really don't want to dig out the maternity ones til I've had the scan (I just hope DD doesn't throw up on them!)
Ack...names, we haven't really thought about them yet. (DH has decided on his but I'm not convinced)

viksam · 06/01/2010 12:58

Ladies! Hi! I lost you all for a bit then when I found you there was some catching up to do. But as usual i am full of myself and my own news............whats new!!
I had my 12 week scan this morning, we had to battle to the hospital in 4 inches of snow, i was worried that the sonographer wouldnt have made it but she did. I had an amazing view of my fit and healthy baby, my nucal measurement was good but have to wait for my bloods to come back in a few days to be completly happy but I have never felt relief like it. The tears were streaming down my face in the scan and once we got out and my husband put his arms around me i blarted like a child, amazing!
Stac When is ur scan.....is it today?? I think we are quite close, I was given a due date of 15th July, so 12+6 today.
Everyone was out in the street when we got back because of the snow so I told some of the neighbours which was nice.
Apuski Where abouts are u now, bristol? Im in Yeovil so not a million miles away. I go to Yeovil hospital and so far have had excellent care from the most lovely people there(I have been under the fertility nurse for some time now and they have been wonderful)
Anyhow, thats enough from me, hows everyone else doing with the snow and the going back to work after the New Year?

viksam · 06/01/2010 13:11

Well if I had read what I should have done I wouldnt have asked stac a stupid question, sorry! Best of luck for this afternoon if im not to late! Hope ur emotions dont get the better of you like mine did. Sorry to be a dufus! xx

kkfairybrains · 06/01/2010 13:37

looking forward to see how stac gets on! good luck if ur not already en route!
re the names im finding it very hard to pick boys names too! so far we have
Girls: Ellie May
Sophia
and i like aaliyah but bf doesnt like it so thats out and i like Leah too
Boys: Sonny (would kinda like to know what people think of this.we like it but not sure if other people might take the micky!)
Dean
Callum
thats what we have so far.well thats my suggestions that he's agreed to he hasn't came up with any as of yet so the list might get a hell of a lot longer!
Snowed here again last night! we'r not snowed in or anything but we'r very lucky to have water cos every1 around us is without it!
hope every1 feelin good today!xx

tjtheminx · 06/01/2010 13:47

Hi Ladies,
I haven't posted in ages but have been keeping up with the posts. Great that everyone has been having good scans etc. It's hilarious that you are all discussing names already. On DS1 my DH refused to discuss names until literally the night before DS was born. ( He obviously had a strategy going on cos although I had a number of names up my sleeve he still got his choice) This time I'll be wiser...I think I have a girls name that we both like but would love an Irish name for a boy. I'm not sure how this would go down with DH though. Loads of my family have lovely traditional irish names but not one person in his extended family has an Irish name ( they ARE all Irish too!)
I feel like absolute crap at the moment which I am taking as a good sign. I'm knackered, constipated, boobs are impressively large ( and impressively painful), I am eating tons of chocolate but don't fancy anything else. Still have gained about a stone and nothing fits. Last time I didn't show till at least 26 weeks and was tiny till the end but I was squeezed into my work clothes yesterday (working at home today still in PJs!)

I am seeing the midwife tomorrow so hopefully will have a scan ( am 12+1 today I think) I am also having a CVS on Friday which I am dreading. Don't even want to talk about it actually. Just want it over with.

Irishfairy · 06/01/2010 17:09

Hi all... Happy New Year!

I was in Ireland over the holidays so didn't have a chance to post but have been keeping up. Glad to hear lots of you got your scans. I had mine just before Christmas, the hospital had actually cancelled all appointments because of snow but because I was going to Ireland the next day they took me, everything looked great, it was so amazing seeing the little one waving and kicking. Got to show the pic to family and friends over Christmas which was lovely! Now looking forward to 20 week scan on Feb 19th.

I have had the digging in waistband too on all my jeans, leggings and tights so have bought a pair of maternity leggings and tights from Mothercare so far.
On the other hand I've actually lost about 1 and half kilo since getting pregnant but didn't have any MS and have been eating like a horse! Don't know if it's something I should worry about or not, could be the no alcohol I suppose.

We've a huge amount of snow here, I didn't have to go to work today but since I can walk there I do tomorrow How's everyone else getting on?

Wonderstuff · 06/01/2010 17:41

Hi all
Have been away for ages, between moving house, christmas, getting stuck in the snow and going back to work things have been a bit manic. Missed my booking in appointment due to the snow and haven't had time to register with GP practice near the new house so goodness knows how long I'll have to wait!
Snow day today, my dd has decided she won't nap so is tired and tearful.
I have a days intensive driving booked for tomorrow and a driving test on Friday - goodness knows if it will happen!

Buckler · 06/01/2010 17:52

Stac how did you get on? Two more weeks to go till mine. Thanks everyone for being o welcoming not sure i wanna be added to the list just yet supersticious still after losing the last two.
Does anyone else get pain in their tummy high up when they have constipation? Sorry for being a bit gross.

Hope everyone is good

viksam · 06/01/2010 19:03

Hi,
Stac where are u? Hope everythings ok!
Talking about the list, can I be added. Im rubbish on the computer, I couldnt even download my scan photo on to here
Buckler I dont get a pain high up, just general pains and hope its constipation, it is a bit disconcerting i must admit.
God Wonderstuff u have been busy, hope ur taking it easy in between everything.
Irishfairy That was excellent you getting ur scan before xmas, I was really hoping i would but no such luck,it is amazing, how lovely to be able to show ur pics to ur family too, 19th Feb doesnt sound too far away, i guess mine will be first week in March, which sounds ages away!
I seem to be hungry every two hours! But cant eat the whole of a big meal, is that wierd. So i leave it, then im hungry again in a few hours, my husband is just about to make curry and im really hoping i can get through more than a few mouthfulls!

DeeLite · 06/01/2010 19:03

Happy New Year Everyone!

I had my scan just before Christmas and everything seems fine with the little beanie. We told our families at Christmas. Everyone was so happy for us. It was really lovely to have such good news to impart. I've now told some close friends who are preggers too but don't have many good friends living close by to me so will tell people as I see them over the next few weeks.

I felt great over Xmas and thought I was over MS but went back to the gym for the first time in months on Tuesday and was sicker than ever all day afterwards and am feeling pretty grotty today too so that's the end of vigorous exercise for me. I'm a bit depressed about it because I was a very keen runner and really miss it. I'm also piling on weight because I always eat loads but used to be fairly skinny because I took loads of exercise but am now eating the same but completely sedentary and bloating up. I've gained 8 pounds in 13 weeks .

Anyone successfully managing exercise?

Wonderstuff - Best of luck to you for Friday. I was supposed to have my driving test before Xmas but it got cancelled because of the snow. I'm going to wait until I have a bump for a new date as I'm hoping that will win me some kind of sympathy vote .

Emster30 · 06/01/2010 19:12

Great news from all those scans! Hope stac's went OK.
