Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mumtoo3 · 21/01/2010 14:16

hi everyone

not been on for a while, but now i have had my scan and all seems well with the baby shame i still feel rubbish! but fingers crossed by about 16 weeks, things should improve

stac - when i had my first they picked up a heartbeat at 14 weeks! so they should be able to at 15 weeks

we are planning to go away to Lanzarote for 2 weeks in sept/oct with my family, so not sure how the baby will cope! but the other children need a holiday as well

chat soon x

Spirael · 21/01/2010 15:15

Afternoon all! I hope everyone is feeling well today.

Nothing much to report here, really. I don't feel that pregnant at all, at present! DH and I are both pretty sure I have a bit of a bump (not just because none of my clothes fit...) but apparently no-one else can see it yet. Got lots of comments about my currently thick shiny hair, though. So that's one perk...as normally my hair is wispy and lifeless.

I don't think I've felt any movements yet. I was vaguely convinced I felt something yesterday, but it was just a single muscle twitch in the right area then there was nothing more...so I'm now thinking it probably was just a muscle twitch. Have any other first timers felt anything?

For holidays, DH and I were vaguely working out whether we could get to Edinburgh for a weekend at the end of June to meet up with some American friends who are travelling over then. But I'll be 36 weeks then and we're not really sure what state I'll be in, so I think we've decided not to bother.

However we are still looking at flying over for a 10 day trip to Canada, visiting friends and doing a recce for moving ourselves, in October/November time! That'll be an experience and a half, with a 3/4 month old. I'm really hoping that, at that age, the LO will not quite be teething yet and just sleep through the flight.

Wishful thinking?

stac14 · 21/01/2010 15:59

My nappy brains has seriously kicked in ladies. I thought my midwife appointment was monday but I have just checked and it is 1st february, have already asked my aunt if she could come with me now will need to tell her its the following week lol. Will be 16 weeks then is that too late for the downs blood test? If so then I will need to phone hospital maybe even see if the nurse at my gp practice can do it for them.

wow spireal are you moving to canada? how exciting. Think you will be ok for flight when baby is 3/4 months old, usually bottle nappy change and back to sleep lol

mumtoo3 totally mixed up dates for mw app so I will be 16 weeks lol, your right about the other kids needing hols too but I have decided we will go to haven or something so we're not taking baby abroad this year.

That's part of our problem, we'd go away as a family except DD's 14mths so she'll be a nightmare wherever we go Babies are so much easier!
Great news about your friend!

stac14 · 21/01/2010 16:57

great news bout friend tsc know what you mean bout halfway point, its starting to fly in. Also really want to hear heartbeat as i've been quite sick not eating as well as i could but gp says to try not to worry, easy for her to say lol

Ds was 3 before i took him abroad, which was more to do with money than not wanting to take him. He loved the plan but got quite bored as it was a 4 hour flight. To be honest i am rubbish at flying so doesnt bother me not going abroad lol

OP posts:
orangefizz · 21/01/2010 17:15

hello! had my 16 weeks mw appointment today and heard the heartbeat! Such a reassurance as still not sure whether i've felt movement yet.
Viksam all they do is the usual urine sample, blood pressure, any questions and the doppler! Can't believe next mw appoint not until April!

re hols I think we will be brave and try and go to Northern France in September as would like some sun this year but don't want to fly anywhere whilst preg (i don't like flying anyway, so not worth added stress), but might be crazy with a 2month old,not sure!

TishTosh21 · 21/01/2010 17:32

Hi everyone, not much to report really, guess not alot will happen til the mw app next wed.

Just thought Id let you all know im well

Hope everyone is still enjoying pregnancy.

Aussieng · 21/01/2010 17:45

Hi all - still feeling horrendous. I thought I had peaked and was starting to recover but ms is back with a vengeance - that's green for pukey not envy!

We are heading to Lanzarote mid Feb. Usually we would be going skiing but while I would still happily ski in principle, I just don't have the energy. The plan is then for something cheap and cheerful but with cultural possiblities (maybe Turkey) just before 28 weeks and then the big one - taking the lo to meet the family in Australia over Xmas/New Year. Spirael I'm also assuming that it will be much easier at this stage than say when lo is 18 months or such like. Mad? Moi?

berberis · 21/01/2010 18:11

Hello everyone, thanks for all the skiing advice. We're going to Austria 14th-21st Feb. I am going to take it easy, but the thought of sitting in a cafe for a week not doing anything fills me with dread. I need some proper fresh air and (gentle) exercise!
Have never done cross-country skiing before, but have done red runs at downhill, and have done a marathon, so reckon I can do a gentle outing of x-country or snowshoeing every day!
Already feel desperate for sunshine/fresh air. All central heating/cold air giving me terrible skin (and they said it would get better during pregnancy!)

PS forgot to say, saw midwife other day and was great to hear heartbeat again, but she said I have low blood pressure so need to not sit still/stand for too long. Better than high BP I suppose. Explains why am craving sugar/a lie down every time I eat a meal.

stac14 · 21/01/2010 18:50

hey ladies

can you tell me roughly when mw should be taking the blood test for downs, I know a lot of you have already had yours but mines not till 16 weeks is that too late?

OP posts:
WhatSheSaid · 21/01/2010 19:18

Stac14 - my mw has given me dates I can go for the Downs blood test and it's from yesterday to Feb 10, so about a 3 week window. I'm 15 wks now, so you should be fine at 16wks. I'm going to go for mine today. I got a low-risk result from the nuchal fold scan of 1 in 585 - low for my age, as the risk based on my age is 1 in 117.

Spirael. you'll be fine flying long-haul with a 3-4 month old, much the best time to fly with them, before they're moving! Everyone will coo over the cute little baby and s/he will still fit in the bassinet, unlike a big toddler who wants to rampage round the plane. I flew long haul with dd when she was 7 months and it was fine. got barely any sleep as I was on my own, but you'll be fine with 2 of you. Wherabouts in Canada are you thinking of moving too?

Chulita · 21/01/2010 20:42

I'd recommend a Baby Bjorn or an Ergo carrier for a LO, especially if you're travelling. DD was an awful sleeper (as in, never slept in pram or car, reluctantly slept in moses basket/bed as long as she'd fed to sleep) but pop her in the carrier and she'd be out within 5 mins. It was a godsend and she still uses it now although I was very to find out today that it now hurts Finlet when I wear the Ergo so she'll have to toddle places now cos she's never been a pushchair fan

Wonderstuff · 21/01/2010 20:59

Hello all, just been catching up, its been ages.
I had my nuchal fold scan on Tuesday which was fab, but did take ages to get measurement, had an inexperianced sonographer, who eventually called in the other sonographer who got the measurement in about 2mins! Exactly the same thing happened with the scan for dd. Was bursting for the loo in the end, then got the letter with the scan date yesterday, helpfully telling me I didn't need a full bladder anyway! Also got date for 20 week scan but dd seems to have half inched the paper before I wrote it down and so going to have to spend hours trying to get through to the hospital to find out when it is (March sometime). Was amazing seeing babs, it kept turning over and rubbing its nose feels a bit more real now.

Have got my dress from funmum.com for the wedding in March. It is lovely and I think I will be able to get away with wearing it with boots for work as well, it is plain black and I will have to get some fab shoes and jewellery for the wedding. I have also got the prenatal yoga dvd, haven't had time to watch it yet though!

Do seem to have a bit more energy than I did and am being sick alot less often, some mornings actually feel close to normal, definitly didn't feel this good last pg so that is v. exciting.

We are going away to Scotland before baby, getting the train up for a long weekend in Aberdeen over Easter. We have friends up there whose lo has just turned 1. We haven't seen them since my friend was about 6 months pg, so very excited. We are also going to go away to France in the beginning of September, we are going with childless friends, I'm not convinced they know what they are letting themselves in for, I know the are thinking about ttc soon, I hope we don't put them off

I found some of my old maternity clothes and they are way to big to fit, which is scary because I have a definite bump and my normal clothes are so uncomfortable. I have 2 pairs of new mat jeans that I am living in atm and am worried that they won't last me! Especially with all the chocolate I've been eating today. My feta cheese and olive fetish is getting a bit out of control as well.

DeeLite · 22/01/2010 07:48

Morning. I have my 16 week MW appointment today and really looking forward to hearing the heartbeat. Pleased to hear they won't be taking blood.

We're going to the Caribbean at Easter for 10 days of beach bumming, BA strikers permitting. I'm looking forward to getting some sunshine as I'm pretty pasty looking now. I hadn't even thought of going away at the end of the summer but may be inspired by all your plans. Both sets of grandparents are in Ireland so we might take a trip there in September.

I've got low blood pressure too, Berberis. I guess it's not too bad but it makes queuing and standing around awkward. I haven't told work I'm pregnant yet either and keep getting stuck talking to people and then having to make a hasty exit because I'm seeing stars. I've got my appraisal in mid-February so am hoping to save the news until then although it depends on what happens with my growing belly.

Spirael · 22/01/2010 09:43

Thanks for the comments about flying long haul with a few month old baby, I feel a lot more confident now about attempting it then! We were debating whether to leave it until the following summer, when LO will be around a year old, but I think that in this case going sooner rather than later is better.

We're planning on moving to Ottawa, WhatSheSaid, which is where our friends are based - which'll make moving a touch easier as we can stay with them for a bit. Also has everything we're looking for in terms of amenities and job opportunities. Might end up over in Vancouver though, if DH can get a transfer from work!

Very jealous of your Caribbean trip, DeeLite! I've visited the Caribbean a few times and love it out there! I hope you have a wonderful time. Which island(s) are you visiting?

My 16 week appointment is two weeks today... Seems like ages away! Not got my next scan until early March, either. So at the moment it's all pretty uneventful, really. [twiddles thumbs]

stac14 · 22/01/2010 11:15

hey all, hows it going? I'm in the same boat as tish and spireal as nothing seems to be happening at the moment. I have mw 1st of feb which seems ages away lol. I suppose this is the limbo stage. Anyone had lower back pain? Got up today and mine is sore not sure if i've twisted it or if its constapation. Sorry for tmi x

Hi Everyone,
Got my two horrid days over with at work and now its my day off. I have a massive thing about eggy bread at the moment, do u'll think its safe. I dont call it my day off anymore its my 'eggy bread day'!! Sado.

For those of you who are going abroad before u have the baby, are you worried at all about food out there? My husband was hospitalised in Turkey due to gastro, wasnt a good experience and I think its scared us both a bit.
We would really love a sunny holiday but need to go in feb half term. any ideas anyone?

I have my 16wk app on tuesday but know what you mean spirael I feel almost completly normal, a bit tired and as if i have put on some extra weight, constipated and a bit of stomach ache now and again but that really is it. Isnt it wierd. People keep asking me if i 'feel different'.........i just dont, is that bad, do u guys??

viksam · 22/01/2010 11:27

Hey stac was writing my msg so didnt read urs til just. I did have a bit of back pain yesterday but i think it was all the crappy meetings i have been sitting in lately. How u doing otherwise? Is ur house back to normal yet? Im thinking of having a conservatory fitted but the upheaval puts me off even though we could really do with the extra space!

Chulita · 22/01/2010 12:34

stac, I've got bad back ache and viksam I'm having croque-monsieur for lunch so yea, I'm sure eggy bread's alright!

WinterMadness · 22/01/2010 12:41

I don't look pregnant today. At all. No bump. Yet on Wednesday I had a definite bump. What's going on there?!?!

Off to 16week appointment now (although I'm actually 17 weeks tomorrow!)

TishTosh21 · 22/01/2010 13:01

Hi everyone my mw app is next we'd which seems to be coming round fast now. I get that too winter some days is a definite bump and others it's gone, I put it down to being bloated more than the baby though.

viksam · 22/01/2010 13:53

Well my eggy bread tasted really good, i do it really well done to be sure its cooked. Its such comfort food, i love it. Just had a go at my doppler, found heart beat straight away this time, hurrah. When ur feeling so normal its good to have that reassurance.
I just dont look pregnant at all just a bit fatter than normal. looking forward to looking a bit more prego i must admit. Deelite how did ur appointement go? What did they do?
Spirael wow, its brave of you to be moving, where are ur family? Have u been planning it for long?
We have some friends moving to Oz and I think we will go see them. They go mid feb so we could go before the baby is born, how late can you fly??

stac14 · 22/01/2010 14:06

Thanks ladies for the reassurance think the back pain may have been the way I was lying as its kind of focused on my right hip now

viksam its not recommended to fly by 32 weeks but I think it depends on the airline, how long the flight is etc, when you planning on going to oz? Also love the idea of a dopler but I would probably be totally hooked.

winter and tish I have days like that, friends have said I look pg then other days I seem to look flatter, maybe its were the baby is positioning itself at the time

deelite lucky you for the carribean, i've never been further than the canaries lol more because I hate flying

Last night I had a little prod just above my pubic bone and felt a little bump, then it moved away, do you think it was the baby? I'm not feeling movement but I will be 15wks tomorrow so shouldnt be long.

OP posts:
TishTosh21 · 22/01/2010 14:58

stac I've read that by 14 to 15 weeks the womb is now above your pubic bone so it could have been the baby. I'm sure I felt a hard lump there this morning when I was half asleep and then it moved away but as I wasn't really awake I can't be sure maybe I dreamt it
