Morning everyone!
Haven't been on for the past few days because I've had really bad headaches so been unable to read/concentrate. Feeling a bit better today though thank goodness

Becky & Stac - i attended my first pregnancy yoga class last night. It costs £12 for a two hour session but it's totally worth it. Lots of stretching, great chat and a really friendly atmosphere! I'm a member of the Glasgow Club and I know that they do yoga classes but not ones specific for pregnancy, which is a bummer! My bathing costume arrived from Figleaves yesterday so I'm definitely going to Aquanatal on Friday morning. I'll need to check out those exercise classes at the Royal...

I'm 16 weeks + 3 days now and am waiting (im)patiently for my 20 week scan appointment to arrive in the post. I mentioned to the midwife the other day that I hadn't heard from the Southern General yet but she said not to worry, they'll definitely send me a letter. Fingers crossed I don't have to chase it!

Hope everyone is well this morning x

GlastonburyGoddess · 20/01/2010 10:02

uggh. Ive woken up with a cold this morning and feel shite still suffering the headaches, its quite strange we all are, must be quite common but dont remember having headaches with the boys.

Great to hear your all getting your dates through for your scans, I see the mw next week but assuming they'll send a letter through at some point, I expect mine will be in march. Im going to get them to write down the sex (if they can tell) on a piece of paper and pop it in a little envelope-Im not sure if I want to know or not, didnt find out with the boys but think I might like to know this time, although if I do decide to look Im going to keep it to myself and not tell anyone!

Just got off the phone to the midwife, have asked for a physio refferal for the SPD pain, shes shocked that its playing up so early(15wks) but ive been having twinges since 6 weeks and dont want to end up like last time with ds1 where they wouldnt refer me because the waiting time was 6-8 weeks and they said there was no point as I would of had the baby by then. Hoping they'll give me a belt or tubigrip or something.

good on you guys going to yoga and swimming. dont think I could manage yoga with the pelvic pain but am still on the lookout for a swimming costume!

I've had the swine flu jab - feel fine except an ache in my arm for a few days.

I agree its down to personal choice but I feel I'd rather take the chance with the vac than the illness. I know you can die from ordinary flu but swine flu has been shown to be very serious for some pregnant women. There are couple of threads on MN about women who have had terrible experiences with it (not going to go into detail as don't want to upset anyone). Also although it hasn't been deliberately tested on preggos, there were women on the trials who were unknowingly or became pregnant who have been monitored and them and babies have shown no problems.

Also I don't trust the way the media skips from one story of doom to another - Swine flu is just boring for them now compared to the Underwear bomber and Haiti - anyone see Charlie Brooker's Newswipe last night?

TishTosh21 · 20/01/2010 13:42

I hope my mw listens for the heartbeat next week I want to know its still going ok in there!

Quick question...is dying hair during pregnancy ok? Ive already done mine then my sister said I should..is it ok?

Hi Tish I believe that dying your hair is fine medically. I know there used to be some concerns many many decades ago when certain dyes still had very high peroxide and content and such like. I believe that the only concern now is that due to pigmentation changes etc the dye may come out "wrong" in terms of colour etc and you need to be extra beware of prickling scalp etc in case you have developped a skin sensitivity while pg - but the baby will be fine and it sounds as though yours has turned out fine too. I'm desperate to hve mine lightened a little but know I would at the smell currently and given my lovely tummy rash and general moisturiser intolerance at the moment would probably end up with green hair!

stac14 · 20/01/2010 14:16

my hairdresser said hair dying is now fine as the chemicals are totally different than they were years ago. Thank goodness as i couldnt cope with grey roots lol. Hows everyone today? X

OP posts:
Chulita · 20/01/2010 14:44

Grr! 2 days without ms lulled me into believing it was over but no, today I feel absolutely crap
AFAIK hair dyeing is fine as everyone's said, different chemicals these days.

TishTosh21 · 20/01/2010 16:15

Yeah thats what I thought, Ive got the MN pregnancy book and that said it was ok cos the "harmful" chemicals in it are in such small quanitity they wouldnt do anything.

Thanks for reassuring me everyone

berberis · 20/01/2010 16:33

Are people still being offered the swine flu jab? No-one has mentioned it to me yet - neither midwife nor GP. I'm 15+4. I wonder if it's been quietly dropped without fanfare.... Would still have it if that was what recommendation was.

On a totally different topic, there was a thread somewhere on MN couple of months ago about skiing, but cannot find it. We're going next month but am not going to do downhill, as even green runs there could be useless people crashing into me. Am thinking of snowshoeing and/or cross country skiing. Can anyone help? Would this be too much of a strain at four and a half months? Is snowshoeing quite gentle or can tours go v uphill/downhill???

Chulita · 20/01/2010 16:56

at you going skiing berberis, I struggle up the stairs so forget the Alps. Good on you for having the energy though! I've only been skiing once but there wasn't a thing about it that was gentle! Now trying to convince DH that it's worth doing...

berberis · 20/01/2010 17:19

I know, chulita, am shocked too! We booked it ages ago before I got pregnant. Would much rather be lying on a beach for a week!
I reckon I need to get some kind of activity sorted, because everything else is out - apres ski, saunas, jacuzzis, hot springs, everything!

Buckler · 20/01/2010 17:54

Hey July buddies just to say i has 12 week scan yesterday and all good nearly 13 weeks now yaay.

stac14 · 20/01/2010 19:03

berberis i would double check with mw, i have only been once also but spent most of the time on my butt lol. I havent been offered the sf jab since i was seven weeks, maybe as tsc says they are fading it out

Know how you feel chulita ms has lulled me into a false sense of security every so often only to come back with a vengence, such a nightmare heres hoping it buggers off soon

Fab news about scan buckler its great to see baby isnt it?

Great news buckler

Emster30 · 20/01/2010 20:42

Berberis we went skiing in Finland a couple of years ago and I had a go at cross country - I had a group lesson one afternoon, and then the next afternoon (had downhill ski school in the mornings) met up with some of the people from the lesson to go on a trip. It was great fun, skiing through the pine trees in the forest and stopping at little cafes for hot chocolate. It was really good exercise so you'd need to take it fairly easy and avoid overheating, but the risks of falling over are minimal so I reckon it would be fine for pregnancy. Just make sure you keep hydrated.

Holidays aren't really appealing much to me at the mo - no booze, no dangerous sports like skiing or scuba diving, have to be ultra careful of the food, no saunas/spas...

viksam · 20/01/2010 21:56

Hi Guys,
Interesting all the holiday talk. My husband would love to go skiing again but I wont touch it with a barge pole at the moment. Having said that and reflecting on the last time I went the cross country was OK but still had some tricky bits, but I am a complete beginner, what level are u at burberis? I have to say I probably wouldn't risk it but thats just me, overprotective and paranoid! I would take a few good books and enjoy the views on the gondolas and enjoy the swimming while everyone else is skiing. If i remember rightly they are not out for hours anyhow as its so knackering.
I would really love a holiday in the sun, we have Feb half term off but there isnt really anywhere hot then that I would deem safe. I have been to Egypt a few times and absolutly love it but not too keen at the mo, am i being stupid, what are u'all doing for holidays this year?
Hope everyones headaches and MS is staying away!
My 20 week scan is on the 24th Feb a day before i am actually 20 weeks, cant wait, got MW appointement on Tuesday looking forward to that too, anyone know what they do at 16 week appointment?
xx

GlastonburyGoddess · 20/01/2010 21:59

Ha, after moaning that I hadnt heard about 20wk scan, got a letter later this morning, problem being it was for 26th feb at 9.30am! considering hospital is nrly a hr away! rang up and they managed to bring it forward to tuesday the 23rdyay.

berberis good for you @skiing, have a great time, whereabouts are you going and for how long? would love a holiday but can face being pregnant with ms, spd pain and two children already so were going to wait till sept then go off for a short break in devon or somewhere fairly localish.

Emster30 · 20/01/2010 22:03

We are hoping to get away somewhere before the baby comes - we were planning to go away at the end of April over our wedding anniversary, just take the car to France and see where we end up, but now DH has just accepted an internship in politics that is going to be super-busy just before the election so I think that's out! Hopefully we can get away in May sometime.

WhatSheSaid · 21/01/2010 02:07

We're going away for 5 days end of Jan and then for 5 days mid-Feb - with friends first time (12 of us! and the only child is dd) and family second time. Just to cheap holiday homes about an hour away from us. Will be our only holidays this year I think - bit skint for anything else.

Chulita · 21/01/2010 08:54

We're not doing anything holiday-wise this year, DH is on an intensive course and hardly gets any time off. I don't think he'll even get paternity which sucks. I think we'll just have our anniversary night away in June as long as MIL can babysit DD. I've found a posh hotel though so it'll probably cost close to a cheap holiday

WinterMadness · 21/01/2010 10:40

snap - we're not doing anything either but then that's nothing new. My husband's a workaholic and it's a nightmare trying to get him to even take leave from work. Even when he's off he's still surgically attached to his blackberry and the laptop usually get brought out on days off. Not bothered really I've got used to it over the years!

I'm going to see a lady about volunteering at sure start today (I want to be a primary teacher so looking for as much experience as possible) and weirdly I'm getting a bit nervous! Feels a bit like I'm going for an interview, lol.

Looking forward to mw appointment as I'm hoping to hear lol's heartbeat

stac14 · 21/01/2010 12:32

we're not going away either, a friend is a travel agent and has found a deal of 4 nights for £160 for the 5 of us in september. But i just feel it would be too soon to be travellin with baby. So not sure if we are going away this year either. Moneys also tight. I have the mw on monday and i hope to hear the heartbeat, they can hear it at 15wks cant they? Hows everyone today? X
