Hi there

I have been on the July thread, but it moves so fast and as I don't have time (or energy being so sleepy), I can't keep up with everyone who is on several times a day! If anyone else wants to join me in a slower thread to share how your pregnancy is developing, feel free!

Happy New Year from me too!

Does everyone know when their first scan will be? I haven't heard yet and am flying off to germany to see in-laws in a week. Was hoping to get a positive scan result before going. As it is I'll be turning up much fatter than they've ever seen me before and it's going to be pretty obvious.

Fingers crossed it's all Christmas over-eating and not twins. I couldn't cope...!

WestYorkshireGirl · 03/01/2010 17:10

My letter came about 4 weeks after I had seen the midwife a few days before Christmas and it's scheduled for 7 Jan (exactly 12 wks) . I chased it though as I needed to check it didn't clash with work things - I phoned the midwife who had seen me and she called back.

I'm just over 11 weeks, due end of July and due my booking in appointment with Midwife on Friday 8th. Haven't heard anything about my scan yet, does Midwife arrange this or will I receive a letter?

Hi everyone

mrscrocoduck · 04/01/2010 19:15

laursapoops your midwife will (should) explain all at your booking in. The purpose of the appt is for her to fill in a booklet of info about you and your health, etc(your maternity notes) which you'll keep throughout the pregnancy until birth. She should then pass this on to the antenatal dept at your local hosp who process it and (in the case of where I live) contact you about arranging the dating scan. Not sure if they'll rush yours through or not considering you're already 11 weeks. Hope so! I hate waiting. Plus i think the dating scan is time sensitive if you are planning to have the nuchal translucency test (where they measure the depth of the fluid behind the baby's neck to establish likelihood of downs).

Wow - must try to be more succinct!

GhoulsAreLoud · 05/01/2010 08:31

Hi everybody and happy new year!

Had a great xmas, new year was quiet, for the first year ever I went to bed before midnight! Was planning to stay up but PIL came for NY and went to bed at 10 - I didn't fancy staying up while DH drank so went to bed and he celebrated with the dog!

Good luck to those with upcoming scans.

I had to go shopping yesterday as the bump has landed! Am only 14 weeks but definitely have a bump - in theory I should be able to use my maternity clothes from last time as DD was born in August, but I showed so much later last time that most of my maternity clothes are summer things!

In other news, I told my manager and childminder about the pregnancy and they were both happy for me (despite me worrying about it!) Still not sure if people generally at work might be a bit miffed about me going off so soon (only been back at work 4 months).

Keep trying to remind myself though that they are reducing their staff by 15% over the next 3 years so it's probably better for me to go now while there are more staff then in a couple of years. Doesn't stop me being paranoid though! Is anyone else worried about work?

WestYorkshireGirl · 05/01/2010 16:56

Ghouls good news about the reaction from your employer. I have told my immediate boss and she was fine about it (think she knew it was on the cards considering my age and the fact I've been with the company 4 years so a good time to have a 'break'). I'm more worried about letting someone else do my job and how they will run my team. I've invested a lot in my career and it's important to me so I feel a bit funny about letting go of it for a while!

Been trying to think about how much time to have off. We get 7 months full pay, then I think I can have statutory for a few weeks after that. If I then use 20 days of my holiday I could go back p/t for a bit so would finish at the beginning of July and go back sometime in May '11 which sound reasonable.

Been also asking my Mum about her pregnancies for my booking in appt as I understand it's useful for the midwife to know. My Mum had one baby 6-8 wks early who survived, then one still born at 7 months and then I came 3 wks early. So, I guess this maybe indicates babies come early on my side. Does anyone know if the father's side affects it much?

Also been also looking at maternity clothes, but it's such a nightmare as I am quite short and need petite lengths - there doesn't seem too much about and then I get confused with all the 'on bump', 'under bump' 'side fastenings', 'pull up' styles! Where do you start?!!!!

OP posts:
GhoulsAreLoud · 05/01/2010 19:58

Hi WYG - that sounds like a good period of time off. I was lucky to have 13 months off with DD (6 months full pay, 3 months statutory and the rest unpaid/6 weeks annual leave).

I'm not sure we'll be able to afford that this time around though so I may only be able to take 9 months off but I think it should be ok as I only work 3 days a week from home.

I found maternity trousers a nightmare last time and just wore my normal jeans most of the time - I have ordered some over the bump jeans this time though, as I had one pair of under bump ones last time and they kept slipping down.

I think it's definitely worth telling the midwife about your Mum's history - I haven't heard the father's side being of relevance before but it could be.

tobago04 · 05/01/2010 20:08

Welcome laursapoops
I had my booking in appointment today,it was a different one to the one i had last time but she was lovely and really took her time,
she said i was 12wks today but i did'nt think i was that far gone, anyway i asked if you could her the heart beat yet and she said maybe if i'm 12wks,so she had a listen and you could hear it straight away! So i must be at least 12wks she said.
It's made it seem really real now and i got quite excited
She said i should get a scan date in the post in the next week or so,can't wait.
Glad everyone else is ok,and work have been good about it ghouls and wyg

Laursapoops · 06/01/2010 11:57

Thanks guys

Got my scan date through in post, next Friday and SO nervous! have first midwife appointment on Fri, having read your post tobago04 I think I'll ask to hear heartbeat too, am looking for some reassurance!

tobago04 · 06/01/2010 12:31

Thats great laurapoops,it was lovely hearing the heart beat, although she did say not to worry if it could'nt be heard,
also they like you to take a wee sample to every appointment,so might be an idea to take one,you can get a pot at chemist for a few pence, apparently they don't give them out at the doctors any more, how tight is that?!
Anyway hope all goes well for you

WestYorkshireGirl · 07/01/2010 10:00

I have my scan this afternoon which am excited about, but started bleeding last night and getting mild cramps. I have read this appears fairly common, but am still a bit anxious...

OP posts:
tobago04 · 07/01/2010 13:25

Hope all goes well wyg,at least it's good timing with your scan and it should put your mind at rest,
I've got mine next Wednesday, can'nt wait!

mrscrocoduck · 07/01/2010 15:07

Thinking of you wyg. Hope all goes well!

I've finally been given my dating scan date, 22nd Jan. Bit miffed as the letter took over a week to reach me (darn snow) so I couldn't book a scan for before I go away next week to visit ILs. Now have to tell family about it without a positive scan to confirm things. That makes me a bit nervous and I don't feel like I'll be able to celebrate properly. No chance I can't tell them though as I am the size of a house...! And when I don't join in the (hearty and frequent) drinking questions will most definitely be asked.

Anyone else had to tell people before their scans?

lifeistooshort · 07/01/2010 18:16

WWG how did the scan go? I did have mine on Monday and all was well but they did find an area of bleed by the sac and warned me I could bleed.

Also worried about telling work. I managed to get that promotion, but have only had it two minutes and I need to tell my manager next week (it is so obvious I can't pull the bump in but with the freezing weather and layers, perhaps it is not too visible).

I have also had to buy a few maternity clothes as I didn't manage to loose the weight I put on with DS so some of my maternity clothes are too tight

WWG again I would definitely tell my MW about your mum's history. Obviously you are not your mum, but you never know. My mum and grand ma have a similar history to yours and my DD tried to escapte at 32 weeks. DS was about two weeks early so I do think it might have an effect and you should know the signs so that if things happened you could run to hospital to get the steroid injections

I hope everyone is fine

I have been battling a cough/cold/chest infection for more than 10 days. Absolutely exhausting.

WestYorkshireGirl · 08/01/2010 10:36

Not good news, I'm afraid. Bleeding didn't get any worse through yesterday and the scan - just brownish and light. Went for scan and they couldn't see anything so did an internal one. Saw a normal size egg sac, but only a very small foetus - about 2mm which represents about 5 weeks. Obviously this didn't fit with dates so they told me come back on 18 Jan for another scan, but it looked like the foetus had died around then and my body hadn't caught up yet. My m/f said that she was a bit suspicious when I told her my nausea and sore boobs had got a lot better last week. I was obviously very upset at the hospital, but still didn't know if anything would happen.

The cramps got worse and my 6.30pm the blood started to gush and the miscarriage happened. It was a lot more painful than I imagined and a lot more messy as I passed some quite large bits of tissue and blood. Was up most of the night till 3am when passed something quite large. Since then the pain is less severe (more like a heavy period now as opposed to contractions every 10 mins or so which were unbearable last night). Feel completely washed out, drained and upset. DH has been wonderful making hot baths and generally looking after me.

So, I will be leaving this thread which is a shame. I wish you all the very best with your July babies and hope you will have healthy and successful pregnancies.

Hope you manage to get lots of rest.

Take care of yourself xx

lifeistooshort · 09/01/2010 13:36

WWG I am sorry to hear your sade news, you must be very upset. Please take good care of yourself and rest and I really wish you better luck next time (if you are brave enough to try again)

WYG - I'm so sorry for your loss.

I feel a bit guilty about moaning in light of WYG's news but I fear I must. Is anyone still having problems with morning sickness? Or 24/7 sickness as it is more accurately described? I'm now 12+4 and was really hoping it would pass but it's as bad as ever (the nausea) and with more actual vomiting. Has anyone been to their GP to get anti-nausea medication? Does it work? I'm emotionally drained from all of this now.

lifeistooshort · 11/01/2010 17:37

skihorse

I have no experiende of MS but yours sound bad it might be something gravidas (can't remember the exact name). It wouldn't hurt to see you GP I guess.

How is everyone else?

GhoulsAreLoud · 11/01/2010 20:30

Hi Skihorse, I don't have any experience but hopefully it will ease off soon. I know they say 2nd trimester it should get better so maybe when you get a bit further in to it?

Lifeistooshort, glad your scan went well and congratulations on your promotion

What are people on this thread doing regarding 20 week scans and finding out the sex? Our scan is 18th Feb and after feeling really strongly about not wanting to find out with DD I now find I feel just as strongly that I do want to find out this time. So I think we will definitely find out.

Other than that, not much to report from me - I am already in maternity clothes and only 15 weeks. I don't think I had a bump last time until about 20 weeks! My stomach muscles are clearly shot to pieces!

lifeistooshort · 11/01/2010 21:40

Thanks Ghouls but the promotion is a bit of a wonky promotion with no announcement and no extra pay rise (just the extra workload and responsibilities!). I am telling my boss the news tomorrow. I think he will choke in his tea...ah well

I have been in maternity clothes for ages...

Re 20 weeks scan I am not to sure. With DD and DS we did find out. With this one I am wondering if we should have a surprise (one of life's rare surprises left) but I am not sure I will actually manage to resist especially as I usually like to plan ahead...

Ghouls any luck with hypno yet? I haven't done anything yet...need to pull my finger out!
