Afternoon All,

I'm struggling to keep up!

I'm sorry about your news Bellepink. Take care.

Good news on the house Bananastew. We moved a few weeks before I was due last time round. Major stress as decorating was delayed and I had to move alone to a B&B as plaster dust was causing me problems (asthmatic). At least you have loads of time and nice nesting to do.

I am off for my scan shortly. Sounds silly but I hardly slept a wink last night as I was really worried. even though i've had a viability scan, I want desperately to know everything's ok, including the nuchal.

Rant alert: I am really pi**ed off at the new maternity policy at work. We are all self employed so no maternity pay for me. We all pay expenses (a percentage of the fees we earn) and a ground rent. These are suspended for 9 months when on ML, but because a girl just resigned at the end of her ML (thus, as some saw it, depriving work of a percentage of expenses), they have changed the policy to say we have to pay ground rent while we are on leave then it is suspended for 9 m when we come back to work. The overall effect is the same, but when you're not working (and earning no £££) you are paying out several hundred pounds a month!! Sorry if that makes no sense, I just needed to get it off my chest. So much for encouraging women back to work...more like forcing us... Oh well, there's always Lotto or Euro Millions...

On a happy note, my trawl for a not too bank breaking holiday has led me to Turkey. There are so many nice apartments and villas to stay in. I had resigned myself to the all inclusive route (which I thought would be nice for Ds what with kids clubs etc) but cannot face it (queues for all the meals... "animators"...chewy meat...blergghhhh). I don't knock it if you have time to choose, but I cannot wait for some sun and lazing around.

Wish me luck girls!

Post later.

Hi all, had my swine flu vaccination on tues. It made me really poorly temperature etc.
I'm still really tired too!! Will be 16 weeks on sunday -when will it end????
Went to mat unit today and heard heartbeat cos i was feeling a bit paranoid after my reaction to the vaccination.

RunningGuerita · 11/03/2010 15:29

Hi, I thought I would introduce myself and join your thread.

I am 12 weeks pregnant with number 1, due 26th of Sept. I have my 12 week scan tomorrow so we're a little nervous about that. But we had a private viability scan at 8 weeks and things looked great then, and yes, there is only one!

I am 36 yrs old and this our first so we are very, very excited and completely terrified.

Things have gone OK so far, I think I've had a middle of the road experience: feel nauseous a lot of the day and evening (like a permanent hangover) but haven't actually been sick so count myself lucky. Am hoping I will perk up eventually! And in the last three weeks, have actually become reacquainted with vegetables!

Lovely to meet you all

bellabelly · 11/03/2010 16:08

Hello all, thanks for all the congrats, made me smile (though still slightly in shock here...)

Bellespink, so sorry to hear that - take care.

Love2Dance hope your scan went well, sorry to hear about your work's new maternity policy, that sounds really crap - am surprised it's legal actually.

Foxyj - hope you're a bit better now.

Welcome Runningguerita am adding you to list and updating my own EDD - same day as you!

MummyFifi · 11/03/2010 17:01

Wow, it's been too long sinmce I have been on here and everyone has such exciting news, Hi to everybody!!!

I just have a quick question for anybody who will listen! I am now 11 weeks and 3 days and have woken up today with VERY sore gums and as the day goes on it seems to be getting worse, my dentist can't fit me in until mid April so for now I am stuck with the pain, has anybody else had anything similar or have any home remedies (not clove oil - apparantly you are not supposed to use it while pg?). Any help greatly appreciated.

On brighter note my scan is in 5 days!!! I am far too excited!!

Lots of love to all the other mums!

RunningGuerita · 11/03/2010 17:14

Find a new dentist? No seriously, one month to get an appointment is rubbish. My filling came out on Monday and they saw me today to fix it as an emergency appointment...

My gums are sore and bleed a lot so I can relate. But not sure what to suggest to alleviate except to be gentle with the brushing and make sure you're using a gentle toothpaste (no whitening stuff) and don't aggravate things with sour food.

Hope it eases.

coppertop · 11/03/2010 17:16

Welcome to RunningGuerita (and any other new people I might have missed).

Love2Dance - I hope your scan went well and you got the results you wanted.

MummyFifi - I don't know of any remedies but hope someone else can help you. It sounds awful.

Bellabelly - Congratulations on the twins!

Nothing new to report here. Still feeling sick. Still feeling tired. Still waiting for my scan next week...

Hope everyone else is okay. xx

bellabelly · 11/03/2010 17:28

Mummyfifi - had a hygienist appt 2 weeks ago and she said salt/water mixed together (warm water if poss) v good for soothing sore or bleeding gums in pregnancy. Does your dentist know you are preg? You should be a priority really because it can cause havoc with your teeth. Make sure you're on their cancellations list in case an earlier appt becomes free.

Updating list again - had left myself on twice - doh!

caprica6 · 11/03/2010 17:42

Hello, is there room for another newbie?!

This is my first pregnancy, due on 22nd September and it's still not quite sunk in yet. We've got our 12 week scan tomorrow which is also my 37th birthday so it will be the best present to see what's going on in there.

We've not told many people but if all goes well tomorrow we will be spreading the news this weekend, then I think it may start to feel real!

Hope everyone is doing well and coming out of the nausea phase to something a bit more "blooming" - that's what I'm waiting for!

coppertop · 11/03/2010 18:41

Welcome to you too, Caprica. There's always room for more newbies.

Good luck with the scan tomorrow. x

weirdbird · 11/03/2010 18:55

Hello all,

Another newbie here, I am 13 weeks and due on the 12th Sep. Had my 12 weeks scan last week and all ok.

I can't believe how many people are due in Sep!

I joined the antenatal club on here for my last pregnancy and there were about 20 of us!

This is my 3rd so everyone pretty much knows that I am pregnant, cause my bump popped out ready formed at about 8 weeks and my bust has already gone up 3 cup sizes (which is kinda hard to disguise!)

Oh and I live next to Heathrow, in case anyone else is near here!

comixminx · 11/03/2010 19:17

Gosh, what a lot of activity on this thread! I suppose it's as we're getting to our scans and beyond, and it's all feeling much more real...

I have bought a belly band and some belly belts, thanks to MN advice. I'm still not quite big enough in (many of) my normal trousers to need the belly belts apart from in odd moments, but they're there for the ones that are getting tighter. I almost feel weird that I don't need them very much yet, at 15+ weeks - like I should be bigger - so I have to remind myself that my sister didn't get very big in the early stages! I can see and feel a little bulge but it's still not that different from actual tummy bulges, alas...

My iPhone app tells me that the baby is somewhere around the size of a navel orange! Heh.

ooosabeauta · 11/03/2010 20:54

Is there any room for just one more to join you? I'm due on 23rd September, had 12 week scan last week and was looking at the October board before then!

Am very excited but trying to contain myself for a bit longer. Already had three mums at toddler group asking me in indirect but quite obvious ways about whether I'm expecting. My tummy's huge already...

ArcticFox an indication of how useful our Moses basket was, is that it has been sitting in the nursery as a big basket for all of ds's outgrown clothes since the start. Quite an expensive basket!

Love2Dance that policy sounds awful - what if you don't go back to the job? Surely it's not right to be paying for the grounds' upkeep (sorry if I've misunderstood) if you're not even getting maternity pay from them? Sounds very unfair.

MammyG · 11/03/2010 22:10

Oh good God I need more hours in the day!! For sleep that is! I thought second time round was tiring but third time round is ridiculous. There is no rest whatsoever! I keep promising myself that I will get to bed early but I am only just finishing up work now and still have everyones bags to pack for tomorrow. Plus boys sick - again! Hmmm beginning to feel like their is not going to be any let up! Will just have to run away so! Me, the sun, bed, no alarm clock and no to-do list! Bliss

Welcome to all newbies - lovely were are getting so busy! Great to have so many to moan share with!

weirdbird · 11/03/2010 23:18

ArcticFox - See I used our moses basket lots as she slept in it downstairs during the day and then at the foot of our bed at night, I have done the same with DD1 and DD2. In fact I splashed out on a new one with DD2 as we had been given one by a friend with DD1 and it was a bit tired by the time she had finished with it.

But I think its one of those things that until the baby arrives you just don't know what things you will find useful and which you won't

I had 2 with severe reflux so both hated the bouncy chair, anything bouncy, anything where they had to lie on there backs, so a lot of the basics that other people say are invaluable, I have never gotten any use out of.

Love2Dance · 11/03/2010 23:31

Thanks for the supportive messages. Scan went fine (i.e. little one's heart still beating), although the little rascal wasn't cooperating (cue 20 min walk and guzzling of sugary, fizzy drink on sonographer's orders). Still being a lazy bean later, but scan image enought to say nuchal fold looked thin. Blood tests will tell me more in a few weeks.

BellaBelly forgot to say earlier many congrats! My friend had twins thinking she was carrying her third, now they have 4. Not quite as amazing as the chances of your situation though.

Welcome all newcomers.

This thread is EVER so long. Shall we start a new thread? Whad'ya say? Has anyone else done it yet? Hang on, I'll check...No. right: how about DUE SEPTEMBER 2010: SECOND TRIMESTER ALREADY! Hope to see you over there...

RunningGuerita · 12/03/2010 15:30

Hello everyone again.

We had our 12 week scan this morning with combined blood tests and everything was fab. Bean was a mexican jumping bean, they logged everything they were looking for and our odds reduced drastically based on measurements and bloods (am 36.5yrs so they were very high going in). We're thrilled :-) They put me at 21 Sept but happy to stick for end of the month.

bellabelly · 12/03/2010 18:36

Brilliant new Running! Come and join us on the new thread here...here

MummyFifi · 16/03/2010 21:35

Hi everybody! I had my first scan today it was amazing!!! Like nothing I have ever experienced, both DH and I cried pretty much as soon as our little plum came up on screen! Definitely only one in there and it has everything it should have and nothing it shouldn't!!! It moved about so much, like a little ballerina! No idea if it's a boy or a girl yet though and my new due date is 30th September so clinging to Due In September by my finger nails!!! Hope everybody is well, much love Fifi and Plum! xx

LucyLG · 17/03/2010 07:12

Hi girls I'm new to Mumsnet, due 19th September and am just starting to let myself get excited after previous disappointments (been trying 4 years to get this far!)

Has anyone got a good pregnancy and birth book that they can recommend? My mum gave me a great one she used when having me, but it is over 30 years old and although I realise the basic process hasn't changed much, there's a lot in there about 'confinement' that just sounds so old-fashioned!

I'm also finding the NHS one that was in the Bounty pack a little condescending as well, and would prefer something that had a bit more information and a little less advice in there.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

JodeyLea · 17/03/2010 12:28

Hello all.

Haven't checked in for a while but all is well and seems this forum is getting bigger and bigger which is great.

Denise Van Outen launches her new maternity range this month at very.co.uk so looking forward to seeing what's available. Have bought my first pair of maternity (under bump) trousers from next but they are a little bit big for me at the mo but my regular work trousers are such a squeeze and the next size up is too baggy at the crotch area. Not a pleasant look!

Went back to the gym this week and feel totally shattered! When will this energy bost kick in? 13 weeks now!!!

I have just decided (a little bit late) to start keeping a weekly diary of my progress. Thought that when the little one is older, he/she may like to read it. I'll try and keep it going through their first few years too. Anyone else keeping a diary?

HellysBelles · 25/03/2010 13:49

Hi everyone

Hope you're all well! Just checking in, been a while.

Bump just starting to show so to make up for feeling sick all the time I splashed out on a pair of maternity jeans - they're so comfy! These are the ones, went to Pretty Pregnant in Battersea and the staff there were really helpful. (They look better on than in the pic).

Also spotted these tankinis at JoJo which look good for the summer and are on offer, so snapped one up too ... just need some sunshine now!

A friend recommended the Bugaboo Bee pushchair, I thought they were too expensive but just looked and they're on offer in John Lewis. How soon is too soon to start buying things for first baby?

We're not going to find out the sex, but I guess I may change my mind closer to the time!

Is it me or is everyone pregnant right now? Lots of announcements lately from colleagues and friends due September time! There must have been something in the water/bubbly over Xmas! Definitely creates a good feeling of camaraderie though!
