Urgh, I just ate a square of dark chocolate, I think I'm going to be sick. Actually sick. My extreme nausea today is not helped by the woman next to me eating meatballs for lunch, why does she always have to eat the most disgustingly stinky lunch? Why can't she ever just eat a sandwich like a normal person? Bleurgh.

bellabelly · 08/03/2010 16:13

Hoorah, my Debenhams purchases arrived today, marvellous! Taking my mind off worrying about tomorrow's 12 week scan.

I am unaffected by the snickers craze - I have never liked them! I do however find myself craving all manner of cake and biscuits but tbh that is not really a pregnancy thing...

IlariaS · 08/03/2010 17:40

hello
just joined the mumsnet. Due on 3rd of September, first child (finally! I'm only 37!).
Glad to hear everybody is feeling better, and sorry to hear about some others with not so nice symptoms.
I'm still a bit queasy, but will not moan as I got through the first three months quite easily in comparison. I'm only a bit itchy and with a lovely acne rosacea, oh well.
Got a huge old duvet which is not that good, so I'm thinking of ripping it apart and use the stuffing to make myself one of those tube pillows. Anybody has any idea of the sizes?
take care all
I.

MudandRoses · 08/03/2010 20:27

Welcome Ilaria, and congratulations! Enjoy your pregnancy; It's such a special time. Somehow harder to find the time and head-space to appreciate it the second time round...

Good luck tomorrow Bellabelly!

And hope you;re feeling better Bessie. I know that feeling. I had it just looking at butter the other day - turned my stomach completely.

MammyG · 08/03/2010 20:56

Hi all - Again thanks everyone for the lovely posts.
Welcome Ilaria - enjoy your first and get pleanty of rest - get some for me while you are at it!!!
Jaysfourth - you brave mad woman! 3 kids camping. Tried everything to convince DH that we should do it this summer and he replied that he was more likely to stick needles in his eyes than attempt it!

I too am unaffected by snickers craving which is just as well as every other kind of choc is under threat with me. Turns out between MS and mystery stomach thing I am still throwing up regularly but for strange reasons have no problem with chocolate, BBQ flavoured hula hoops, Johnny Onion rings and chips! I despair for this poor baby!
Had such a bloat this evening that I folded and put on Mat jeans - aahh the comfort! Now if I actually looked pregnant instead of full of air that would be better.

So where did ye get the doppler? Would be lovely to hear heartbeat. Asked GP about calling in to get it done but she said until almost 15 weeks or onwards its too hard to pick up as my heartbeat would over ride it???

Thanks for tip on spatone Inzi will check it out. My Blood pressure is playing havoc with me. Was very woozy in work this morn took until 10 am to feel ok. Am a teacher so petrified of passing out in front of the smallies although thankfully to date I have never actually fainted.

Good luck tomorrow Bella

ciacia · 08/03/2010 23:40

hi i am new to mumsnet
am due 2nd baby on the 5t september, feels like first time round as my son is now 14!

its nice to read such posotive things. my situation is somewhat complex
(along with all day sickness)
has ment that the magic of being pregnant, seems to have got lost somehow!

sickness seems to be easing slightly this week, happy days! although i am constantly tired i dont appear to be able to sleep for more than an hour at a time, does anyone else suffer with this?

take care

bananastew · 09/03/2010 07:37

The offer wes accepted! Our buyers are cash buyers and our new house is empty so if everything goes smoothly we could be moving in 6-8 weeks! And the biggest bonus is it needs a new kitchen so I get to go shopping for that too!

I do have one problem tho! I know our buyer & she's started asking questions that I don't know how to answer! How much do we pay in utility bills? I have nothing to hide but to me thats like going to buy a car and asking how much petrol the previous owner buys. Its a question thats relative to the indiviual not the property surely. We have an 18 month old baby and I only work 3 days. They both work full time & have no children. I don't really know what I should do! any suggestions??

MammyG It can't really get overridden by your heartbeat cos its to far away. You do have two arteries running either side of your abdomen that are easier to find but they are more of a whooshing sound than a thumping sound. So I don't think its unusual to not be able to find it but I found mine at 13 weeks and Jaysfourth at 11 weeks!
You can get them off the internet. I borrowed mine off a friend.

Welcome IlariaS and good luck Bellabelly!

mellymooks · 09/03/2010 08:01

Morning all!

Bananastew I don't think you have to tell them anything about your bills! But you could say exactly as you've said above, that your lifestyles are very different so therefore their usage and yours will be very different.... seems a bit if an odd thing to ask. Great news though I hope it all goes through swimmingly. We're getting a new kitchen too though ours seems to have become more epic than we envisaged with walls coming down and floors coming up, think me and my girl will run away while it's all happening and leave the other half to deal with the mayhem!!

We told our daughter about the baby after the scan and showed her the pictures, she seems to be taking it on board well so far and keeps talking to my tummy and giving the baby "noses" soooo cute!

Have worked out that in total I only have about 36 actual working days left before I can stop work!! It's worked out well for me as my new leave year starts in July and I have to use all my leave before I go on mat leave which basically means I get to take the whole of Aug off as leave and then start mat leave in Sept hooray!!!!

LadyRabbit · 09/03/2010 12:05

Bananastew Congrats on the house move! Me jealous. I want a new kitchen too. But have to sort out the baby's room first and the garden. The problem with an old house is that you finish one thing and then something else needs doing... maybe I should just convince DH we should move....Spring does that to me, I'm one of those fools in the queue at B&Q on Easter Monday.

Just had my NT scan. Everything was totally normal, baby was moving like mad. My risk adjustment is really low now which is fantastic and, although it's still a bit early, and the sonographer said they were only 80% sure, my certainty I am having a son was confirmed!!! So excited, wouldn't have minded either way but was so convinced it is a boy we were really struggling for girl's names. I was so nervous about this scan, and today is the first day I've allowed myself to celebrate.

Hope everybody else's scans are going well and morning sickness is subsiding.

Bessie123 · 09/03/2010 15:44

Ladyrabbit - that's very early to find out, how exciting.

Great news that all went well

and congrats to bananastew on the house

bellabelly · 09/03/2010 17:09

Just a quickie from me before I dash off to pick teh boys up from nursery - scan today was ok but they couldn't do the nuchal bit - have to go back on Monday to see the consultant for that. But the main news is... it's TWINS again! [faints]

Ladyrabbit, glad yours went well, that's amazing that they could tell you the sex this early. I was too much in shock about the twins thing to even ask for a hint about gender.

Jaysfourth · 09/03/2010 17:25

Bellabelly oh lord! I cant remember, and not sure where on the thread it says, do you have twins and another? i say it again, oh lord!!!

BUT great that all seems well, hope the further tests go well, not too long to wait- two sets of twins, cool

Ladyrabbit, i am guessing if you found out now you will more than likely take the opportunity to confirm (further)at 20 week scan!? I say, as i was talking to a new mum today who had been told (all along) she was having a BIG BOY... she had an average girl glad scan was good though.

Bananastew, congratulations on the house, its great when it runs smoth, i hope it continues for you. I agree with Melly also, no need to tell them about the bills tell them what you told us, it will then be up to them to manage it themselves!

MammyG i got the doppler from eBay, it was only twenty quid, and i have to say i was skeptical about finding the heartbeat so early. I did hear my own heart beat so when i heard the babies i knew it wasn't mine as it was a lot faster and totally different. I also heard a lot of whooshing and 'movement' type sounds, didn't want to put the damn thing down!!
RE Glastonbury and camping, we are hiring a motorhome, so we have all mod cons, not sure full on hardcore camping with three (young) kids and six month pregnant would be a good idea! I just want them to experience the festival, there is SO much laid on for the kids i doubt we will even get an opportunity to see any of the big acts!!

foxyjbro99 · 09/03/2010 17:25

OMG bellabelly!!! What are the chances of that? Are twins in your family?

Congratulations, how exciting for the whole family! I can't believe you'll have a ready made family of 4 in just 2 goes!! Well done you
xx

LadyRabbit · 09/03/2010 17:27

Wow bellabelly!!! Double congrats are in order. I think you need a lie down and a snickers... not surprised gender wasn't on your mind.

I'm aware it's really early for an indication, but I knew from a doctor friend that it is possible, especially if it's a boy, so we asked. It's to do with the angle of their bits, apparently. However, my gut instinct notwithstanding, I am prepared to be surprised. It's less likely to be a girl if you're told it's a boy, but possible it's a boy when you've been told a girl. (Friends of mine had exactly that happen and their little lady is actually a 5 year old bruiser of a little lad.) Something to do with boys hiding their parts on occasion....

bellabelly, having done it before, did you have any inkling at all you were carrying twins again?

LadyRabbit · 09/03/2010 17:31

sorry, x-posted Jaysfourth - yep, definitely not going all blue just yet, and am still going to think of a girl's name too. Really couldn't care less what sex as long as baby is healthy but for some reason from the off I've been calling baby him, dunno why!

bananastew · 09/03/2010 19:34

Oh my goodness!! More twins! exciting and scary all at the same time! How old are your twins now!?

patito · 09/03/2010 20:55

Congratualtions Bellababy, two sets of twins on thread, thats great.

Had rountine MW appointment today, but things here (I actually live in Spain) go so slow. Had scan last week and was told possibly 15 weeks. MW still hasn´t got results back from hospital, so waiting for her to call with results sometime soon!! Otherwise all OK, heard heartbeat again.

Ive felt like Ive actually gone back a couple of weeks, with return of tiredness and constant hunger. Had a couple of dramaqueen emotional days also.

Good to hear your news on house Bananastew not having so much luck myself, desperate to move before next baby arrives but just cant find anything suitable, well thats afforbable anyway.

Bellepink · 09/03/2010 21:12

Hi ladies

I am off the list now (have been since a few weeks ago but haven't posted) but I wish you all the best for happy and healthy pg's xx

MammyG · 09/03/2010 21:42

Bellababy Flamin Nora!!! two sets of twins - you really are having a big adventure! Im in awe and must admit the smallest bit jealous! Am eldest of 6 and would love big family but DH having none of it. All a bit civilised for my liking - twins would have been such a bonus. Anyway Well done you and take extra care of yourself. How old are the boys? And is your DP over the shock yet?

Jaysfourth am in inspired - going doppler hunting. Would love to hear heartbeat myself.
Bananstew - Yipee on sale and finding a new house! would love to be kitchen shopping! I wouldnt say too much about bills what you said about lifestyle is loads.

Im still throwing up at least once a day but the upside is its over really quickly - much better than feeling queasy for hours. My little man had me up all night last night cause he kept hearing noises!! (ya - mom crying in her room cause she wasnt getting enough sleep!!) Was like a zombie this morn.
So cool that you can tell the sex early! I was so sure that I was going to find out at 20 week scan. I have two boys and just didnt want any apathy at the birth. If it was another boy wanted to be equally as excited as I was for others. But tbh have been thru so much past few weeks I just want my baby happy and healthy now and doesnt seem as pressing to know anymore. Still loads of time to decide. Trying to imagine me only woman in the house tho!! (I am a realy girls girl!)
Cutest thing tho - havent told boys about baby. But they are obviously picking up on things cause yesterday after story time eldest told me he would like a sister and both boys together said they would like a girl called Lucy! How dotey is that!

MammyG · 09/03/2010 21:43

Bellepink - just saw your post. So Sorry. Mind yourself. x

MudandRoses · 09/03/2010 22:03

Sorry to hear that Bellepink Hope you are feeling ok. Take care.

Swordfishtrombones · 10/03/2010 12:28

Hello Ladies

Goodness - what a lot to catch up on!

Firstly, I'm so sorry Bellespink . I hope you are okay, and wish you all the best for the months to come.

Congratulations to Nandos and to Bellabelly! Two sets of twins - wow! I'm hoping you still have a double buggy and two lots of everything in a small size

Great news about your move bananastew - I hope it all goes quickly and smoothly.

Welcome IlariaS and ciacia - I have updated the list below.

Ilaria - You might have already ripped open your old duvet, but if you are thinking about a homebirth then I would recommend keeping it for covering the floor so it's a bit softer on your news. I used an old duvet and it was really useful. Otherwise, if you make a pillow make sure you can prop your knees and your arms on it in bed. They need to be quite long to get comfy.

No news from me other than [shhhhhh whispers] I've stopped feeling sick . Does that mean I have to start eating less cheese or can I keep on going with that do you think?

ArcticFox · 10/03/2010 12:59

Wow- loads of new people!!

So today I ventured to the baby superstore. Was completely flummoxed. There was so much choice; about 40 different types of cot and 50 types of pram/pushchair. That's before I went anywhere near the bouncy chairs and slings.

How am I supposed to decide what to get?

We are really space constrained so need to really focus on the essentials, but I'm getting so much conflicting advice about what I really need.

I wish there was an independent book just on stuff and what you should consider when deciding between eg. cot plus moses basket, cost plus moses carry cot, all three, just a cot etc.

Any other first timers similarly confused or am I just being stupid?

mellymooks · 10/03/2010 13:19

You're not being stupid articfox there is so much choice out there, we spent ages researching and debating about what to get first time round.
For us our absolute best buy was a cloth hug a bub sling, loved it, no straps to dig in anywhere, spreads the weight really evenly and can fit anyone regardless of their height/size which was important as my partner 6ft4!!

That was also major consideration for us when buying a pram, we wanted to find one that had a decent height adjustment on the handles so that it didn't kill my partners back to push it.
We ended up getting a Quinny Buzz travel system. In hindsight though I wouldn't have bothered getting the carrycot part as we hardly used it, as the baby was either in the sling or in the carseat slotted into the pram body.

Having said that I plan to use the carrycot beside our bed this time rather than the moses basket, which drove me mad the second DD started moving about even slightly as the wicker creaked and was really annoying!!

Though if it's anything like last time we'll probably end up co-sleeping a lot out of sheer laziness and ease of lying down breast feeding!!

We bought a cot but she didn't go into it until she was about 9 months old, but is really handy to have and everyone's different you may end up having your little one in the cot much earlier. Moses baskets are not essential but are handy for moving about the house, if you're really pushed for space though you may just want to get a cot and use your carseat downstairs or as we did just had big cosy squidgy rugs and blankets on the floor for the baby to loll around on and when she was about 3/4 months got a little bouncy/rocker chair.

Everyone will have different advice but in reality you need very little at the start, one thing I wouldn't have been without though, if you're planning to breastfeed was a breastfeeding cushion, makes all the difference and frees your arms so you can read/workremote/eat choc etc!!!

Actually that's my absolute top tip: when breastfeeding make sure you have absolutely everything you need within arms reach: phone/mobile/water/snacks/remotes/MN!!!!

I am seriously rambling ;)

ArcticFox · 10/03/2010 14:03

That's really useful Melly- thanks. I think i'll try to do without a moses basket and just either have the cot in our room or use a carry cot. I wasnt sure if babies could sleep in a carry cot overnight or if they were just meant to be for occasional use (so much to learn, you see!)

I dont think co-sleeping is an option as both Dh and I are real "thrashers"- freqently hit each other in the head, and Dh has been known to put a pillow over my face (allegedly it was an accident).

"Downstairs" isnt a problem- we live in a 2 bed apartment, all on one level, so it's not too difficult to carry things between rooms as needed.

Right- next stress. Where to position cot so not in direct line of air con vent!!
