Last chance for a Scorpio, after this weekend they'll all be Sagittarians!

To second pav's experience with weight loss, DD lost more than 10% of her weight after birth, we were kept in for 5 days as a result. I was put on a regime of breast, BM top-up, formula top-up, express (which took hours) and was an exhausted emotional wreck for weeks. MW was round almost daily with those blasted scales. Once I got her up to birth weight again they backed off a bit (I used formula to do this) but I was feeding her constantly and she was SUCH a slow feeder. Once I stopped all the expressing, etc. and felt a bit more human we both seemed to do better.

I reckon that being late, she was just overcooked and too well-fed by the placenta. She looked like the michelin man when she came out, and dropped from 50th to 25th centile, where she has remained since.

So sorry BBL to hear about your pain. I don't have much experience of this, but know those who have. As a mum, you can only do your best and make sure you're still there for your family too. The hormones just now are so toxic that rational decisions are hard. I hope you're ok.

BeckyBendyLegs · 20/11/2009 21:38

Thanks everyone, not sure what is going to happen but haven't fed him since lunchtime have expressed another 30ml this evening which he gulped in about two seconds flat.

Ninjacat · 20/11/2009 21:55

A big hug for you Becky. Please don't beat yourself up. You are a fantastic Mum who gives her children oodles of love and attention. Your kids will have the best possible start in life even if breastfeeding doesn't work out for you xxx

katster37 · 21/11/2009 10:19

Becky I hope you're OK. I know I have NO experience so I really can't help you, but I know my mum and my MIL have both told me that breastfeeding was the hardest thing about the whole pregnancy/birth/baby thing, and told me to be prepared. Neither of them did it, so me and my DH were both bottle fed, and I don't think we're too bad! You've tried so hard, and I think your emotional well-being is far more important to be honest, especially as you have three children to consider. Big hugs.

Hobnob I hope you're OK. Is it 15 days now? Do you have a 'plan'? I really can't imagine how you feel!! I am due today, and feel close to tears!!! When did your other DC arrive?

I am seeing the MW today. I don't know what she will say, really, but I was awake all night worrying that the baby isn't OK, and constantly poking my tummy to get him to move and reassure me that he's still there .

beepbeep · 21/11/2009 10:31

All going ok here, DD1 really taken with Martha - calls her 'Marfa' - and wants to involved in everything - which pretty much includes sitting on my soulder whilst I feed and on Martha whilst her nappies are changed, getting a little much. DS really not too impressed and just ignores her!

First night I was up for most of then she slept7.30-11.30 so managed to get a couple f hours myself. Got out for a walk into Witney yesterday afternoon, bit bizarre going out as a family of 5! Put Martha in the sling and she just slept the whol timewe were out. Put her to bed after feed at 7.30ish, she was quite unsettled 9.30 -2.30 (think I fed her pretty much non stop from 12-2.30) then next saw her at 8.30 this morning! Can't see that continuing mind and bloomin typical that my milk has started to come in over night so didn't sleep very well when i had the chance as uncomfy and having hot sweats - hey ho!

Hope everyone else is doing ok and those still hanging on don't have long to wait!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/11/2009 12:20

beepbeep aw your dd1 sounds adorable. DD is like this with our friend's 3 month old, she is in her face ALL the time, i am curious as to how she will be the new baby! But interested is good!

DH has gone out. Without his mobile phone. And he has gone shopping to goodness knows where to get a present for a friend's birthday. I suspect waterstones, as he lives there, but he is bound to browse elsewhere. But hey, I am only 3 days overdue and could pop anytime with our second child, and a toddler to look after, so its not like I am going to need him for anything serious or anything, potentially .

longwayaway · 21/11/2009 15:06

Grr, Pav. Hope he's back now.

Went for a three mile walk yesterday and just got back from another long walk to the shops with DH. Not sure if it's helping but it can't hurt! Making curry for dinner tonight, too.

hobnob57 · 21/11/2009 15:10

tsk, men, eh?

beepbeep you're doing well! Happy days.

katster DD was induced at 40+13. My mum said I was induced after nearly 3 weeks late, and my sister was induced 2 weeks late so I'm thinking that this family either do massive gestations or don't know how to go into labour.

I'm still getting painful contractions through the night that seem to melt away into BHs during the day, with the odd painful one thrown in. Was hoping to go for a long walk this pm as DD is at MIL's for the night, but it's just started tipping outside . I've been having a constant show since Wednesday - it's hard to imagine it was all there all along. I must be making more of the stuff?!

Was at a birthday party with DD earlier and there was a little month-old newborn there, so got a hug, but it was in a noisy and distracting soft play area so not sure how effective that was . She was early and only 5lb-odd, so was probably smaller than the one in my ballooning tummy

Got our childminder/neighbour's leaving do tonight so will try to dance this baby out!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/11/2009 15:28

hobnob have mental images of heavily pregnant woman dancing her socks off on the dance floor!

DH came back fortunately, said he came back as soon as he realised he had no phone on, and still took him 20 mins due to bad traffic and horrendous rain.

He and DD are now at a friend's birthday party. DD looked gorgeous in a lovely mini boden cord green dress with applique on the front, cream tights, cream long sleeved shirt underneath, and dusty pink shoes . I wanted her to wear her green converse which would have gone perfectly, but no, she wanted the pink shoes! But she did let me put her hair in a french plait!

nothing really happening this end. I am very very sore and stiff when I get up from lying down, and belly feels heavy and solid, but nothing much going on, apart from a bit of cervix pain, can't figure out if it means anything or if baby is dancing on it still. Felt faint and shaky earlier, thought it was a'sign' but even that has gone!!!

BBL how are you feeling? How are your boobs?

wook · 21/11/2009 16:36

BBL you have to do what's best for your sanity!
How is expressing? I found it much, much less painful than feeding and managed to give the nips enough of a break to heal up, with the aid of tons of lansinoh.
Very quiet today... lots of announcements to come?
Pav Your DDs outfit sounds GORGEOUS! I cannot wait to get french plaiting!! Also, two plaits, one on either side... bunches... ponytails...

katster37 · 21/11/2009 16:37

PAv any more 'signs'? I have none. It is my due date. Boo. Have had this date etched into my brain for the last 36 weeks, since I found out I was pregnant, and it's just a nothing day! We did go to Pizza Express for lunch and had a big walk, but nothing else. The MW said if I haven't had it by Friday she will make an appointment for the post dates clinic where I will have a scan the following Monday. Is that what normally happens? She said it was to measure fluid levels and check how well the placenta is functioning, which is a bit scary. Oh, and she'll do a sweep next Saturday. Yum.

Reeeally want him to be born tomorrow, as it would have been my Grandad's birthday, who he is being named after. Come on, little one!!

Hobnob your patience levels are amazing. Especially putting up with all the contractions through the night - it's not like you can even store up a bit of sleep... Are you going to be induced do you think? Did you get that scan thing?

BBL I hope you're OK.

Longwayaway I am so sick of curry now!!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/11/2009 16:52

katster It is frustrating isn't it? I found out i was pg when i was 3 wks pg due to immediate vomitting, so feels like I have been pregnant forever. I was also anticipating stupidly that he would follow DDs footsteps and be early, so by the due date, in my mind he was late. So now, i think, not 3 days late, over a week late!!! Fingers crossed he makes an appearance soon, be great to have his birthday the same as your granddad's.

No scan for me. I saw consultant on wed (my EDD) and he just booked me in for induction on 30th Nov if baby has not arrived by then. No scan, no sweep offered. Nowt. He said to book MW appt for next week. I am guessing if she is not present, i will see gp (she is often away). He said if movements stop, bleeding starts, or i become concerned in any other way, call maternity ward and they will bring me in for monitoring.

No more signs. It is rather quiet isn't it?

I am bored. I have had a doze, but pointless. People keep contacting me to find out if i have any news (like i would forget to tell them or something!) so, i got a phone call just as i drifted off, then as i drifted off again, two texts came in! Grr. I think i will go and tidy the kitchen, front room and DDs pigstye bedroom while they are out, then will have a nice lovely home to settle in for x-factor!

hobnob i am so impatient on your behalf! you poor poor thing.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/11/2009 16:53

i meant fingers crossed for your little one! i am sure it would be nice for mine to have the same birthday as your grand dad's too, but thats not what i meant

katster37 · 21/11/2009 16:58

Pav it's strangely quiet, isn't it? I feel like we're the last ones standing!! I'm with you on the tidying + X Factor thing! I am practically insisting we eat off paper plates at the minute - cannot stand to use any crockery or anything that could be a mess for more than a minute! DH is asleep. It's not him that was awake half the night... But maybe he'll need his energy tonight when I go into labour! (yeah, right!). At least you have a date, I suppose? Although that seems ages away. Just realised it's actually Christmas soon. The whole thing had passed me by! Think everyone will be getting something that is sold on amazon this year! Oh, and don't get me started on the phonecalls/texts. I am becoming seriously p*ssed off now. Didn't reply within an hour to one, so got a subsequent one saying 'I am assuming, since you haven't replied, that you are in labour!!' I am thinking of putting my FB status as saying my phone has broken. Is that naughty?!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/11/2009 17:01

lol, you should do it! If we turn our phones off though, people will worry, if we don't answer, we must be in labour!

Also, now, everytime DH phones anyone they assume it is with news and get all giggly and laughy and excited down the phone...no, i am just phoning to find out what time the party starts this afternoon....

oh best run, i can hear the sound of a cat trying to be sick...if it is on my new carpet i shall skin him alive!

hobnob57 · 21/11/2009 17:29

Just had a rather short walk in the rain. Was pretty painful actually, but then I found out when I got home that the pain was probably due to an imminent BM . Ah well, better out than in, as they say.

Still getting really random contractions. I think they're triggered when I move in certain directions, hence getting them at night when I'm probably moving in bed. And then there are the totally spontaneous ones. But none as sore as the ones I get when lying down grrr.

I'm really torn between trying to be active and spur things on (hard when it's dark and the heavens have opened) and feeling like curling up on the sofa for a doze. I'm also ravenous. Not a sign of imminent labour, I fear

pav my DD went off to her party today with a french plait in her gorgeous blonde hair. I love girls

scarlotti · 21/11/2009 17:32

Sending you all labour vibes. I was so convinced Ioan would be early he felt late at my due date - it's so frustrating. Hope it starts happening soon

hobnob57 · 21/11/2009 17:36

Just realised I've been on maternity leave for 6 WEEKS .

Good Lord, let's sort this out!

claired21 · 21/11/2009 17:45

You're not the last ones standing, I'm still here! Just with 8 days to due date and nothing to report. Absolutely nil, nada, zilch. Very few BH's, hardly any cramp pains, no shows, no colossal poos, no backache and no leaking waters. Bored!

I did clean my blinds today, amongst other housework. Possible sign of nesting instinct which might lead to something? Clutching at straws??

I have definitely reached the fed up and feeling huge stage today. So depressing to think I could have another 22/23 days of this.

Anyone have any good news?

longwayaway · 21/11/2009 17:58

I had a show today... after some fun time with DH Not sure if that counts? Been crampy ever since.

OP posts:
hobnob57 · 21/11/2009 18:08

Awww longway I hope this is good news for you! I've been having a show for 4 days now, but it was sweep-induced so I wouldn't regard this as normal

Good luck if it all kicks off!

EasyEggs · 21/11/2009 18:08

Sorry no time to catch up atm.

Just to say Charlotte Victoria Louise, well Lottie is what she will be called, arrived Thursday at 4.09pm weighing 7lb 13oz

very cute, likes to sleep in the day but not at night and came home today. The other lo's love her, all except youngest ds, 13m, who just keeps trying to hit her. Hoping he will be used to her asap!!!

Will try getting on when I get 5mins peace and will post birth story on postnatal.

Good luck to all those still waiting

longwayaway · 21/11/2009 18:30

Congrats EasyEggs!! I tried to convince DH at one point that we could have a Charlotte and call her Lottie but he wasn't having it. Hope your 13-mo comes around soon

hobnob yea, this show wasn't exactly, er, unprovoked so I'm not getting my hopes up.

OP posts:
helips · 21/11/2009 19:09

Oooh congrats easyeggs, Lottie is a lovely name, in fact we nearly called dd that but decided on Amelia at the last minute (although I think even now dh would prefer her to be Lottie!) she just looked more like a Millie to me! Looking forward to reading your birth story when you get a chance!

Sorry to all of you overdue and fed up, hope things get moving tonight and hopefully there will be a few more birth announcements before the weekend is up!

Laugs · 21/11/2009 19:34

Congrats EasyEggs and welcome to baby Lottie! Hope you get some sleep soon

Just to let everyone else who's still waiting know that I am too, it's just my mum and dad are up to help out. Now I feel like it would be really convenient for everyone if I went into labour tonight. I'm doing my best...
