Last chance for a Scorpio, after this weekend they'll all be Sagittarians!

Hmm I don't know whether to demand the SF vaccine now or not... I had sort of decided to not have it, but I am wobbling a bit now... Mainly over my baby getting it over the winter... Oh no, I don't know what to do!!
Been in bed this afternoon - felt like I had a horrid upset tummy this morning, was hopeful it was labour-y type stuff, had back ache, tummy ache, period pains blah blah but an hour in bed has made me feel ok ish again.

Am hoping Hobnob's absence is a good sign....

Laugs · 23/11/2009 17:25

It looks hopeful for her doesn't it?

It's hard to know about the SF thing isn't it? I kept asking my doctor's surgery, but they've only just got it in and I could only make an appointment once I'd had an invitation - so it might be that your surgery has not got it in yet or is still vaccinating people higher up the list?

I'm not sure how much difference us having the vaccine will help the babies. I've asked a nurse and my midwife about breastmilk providing the baby with antibodies and neither of them seemed convinced it would, though that is still what I'm hoping for.

Ninjacat · 23/11/2009 17:27

congrays Stormfly

Kaster I said no to sf jab when offered. Felt if it was not safe for under 6mnths why was it safe days before birth?

I haven't contributed much thus far, but will be hanging around at the end with a few of you others! I am still enjoying not having an external baby - trying to get loads of stuff done first. I think I'll start chomping at the bit come my due date. Then we'll be currying, nipple twizzling and pineappling like mad!

Congrats to all of you who have your babies in your arms!

raggie · 23/11/2009 17:28

Laugs It's a shame but I think you're right - having the vaccine won't help protect the babies but I was more worried about getting it in say Jan or Feb and passing it on/being too ill to look after her.

Like katster said though, it's weird that it seems the vulnerable under 6months old babies will be about the only ones not protected!

scarlotti · 23/11/2009 17:30

Sorry to hear so many of you are utterly fed up - commiserations as I remember the feeling well.

Laugs if I had a pre-baby day again I'd probably do something just for me - get a hair cut/facial/pedicure or something. That's what I now miss. Am enjoying doing all the feeding/changing etc. but I am envying the rest of the family who get to sit and read a book or go to the shops without having to work out feeding times etc.!
Am planning to get my hair cut this week, but will need to work out the most likely time Ioan will be asleep so I don't have to whop them out and feed him in the salon!!

Laugs · 23/11/2009 17:52

Stormfly was that a birth announcement by stealth, or has my sieve-like memory got the better of me?

Thanks Scarlotti, sounds like a good plan. I look and feel like the back end of the bus at the moment, so it might be time for a bit of pampering. How are things going with you?

Raggie I was told the vaccine doesn't cross the placenta, so it doesn't automatically provide immunity to babies. I think it'd be interesting to know if antibodies are passed over through breastmilk at all. I know DD never seemed to get anything while I was breastfeeding, so I don't know why this would be any different (although I am completely unscientifically-minded, so I don't know why I'd expect myself to know!)

tigger32 · 23/11/2009 18:00

Just popping in to say hi!

Looks like this could be it for Hobnob then!
I'm really hoping that things get moving soon for the rest of you.

I am sooo tired today, Henry was really unsettled last night and after a few nights of doing 4 and 5 hours it was a bit of a shock! Also I've done something to my shoulder and am finding it really hard to hold/feed Henry as it hurts so much

If I could have one more pre-baby day I would sleep!

longwayaway · 23/11/2009 18:32

What a vaccine does is induce the body to form antibodies against the flu. Unfortunately for most of us, immunity takes at least a couple weeks to build up, so if you have your baby within a few weeks of getting the vaccine you will not have passed on much benefit. However, you can still pass on antibodies through your breast milk.

Regardless of what you pass on directly to your LO, there's the secondary benefit of being resistant and therefore unable to spread the disease - which goes for everyone else in contact with the baby (and theoretically, the world - vaccines are most effective if everyone gets them). I would have liked for me and DH to get vaccinated weeks ago but I'm still waiting to hear when we can get an appt.

As for why 6-month olds don't get the vaccine, I can only guess that their immune systems are already pretty busy dealing with all the new allergens in the outside world (plus the routine jabs we give them) so doctors are reluctant to pile on anything else.

Comma2 · 23/11/2009 18:57

long They have all unis and pregnant ladies vaccinated over at the east coast, I think. You sure you can't get it anywhere? (I haven't had it either, my doctor has been backwards, but I didn't press it as too lazy to get much involved in entire thing).

Laugs ooooh, hair cut and shops (though not much joy heavily prgnant, but still better than with babes), book, nice long dinner and movie with dh. Sleep! I know its useless to say as you may not be tired (yet), but do get all the sleep you can.

hang in there, overdue ladies! It'll start one way or the other soon and the wait will be completely forgotten.

raggie · 23/11/2009 19:50

Good to hear thoughts about antibodies through breastmilk, thanks longwayaway. The woman who jabbed me said about 3 weeks for full resistance to build up.

Thanks for the tips on what to do while waiting - I think a haircut is definitely in order for me. And if I book one, maybe it means she will come and spoil it! Every way a winner!

longwayaway · 23/11/2009 20:07

Oo I need a haircut too! Also a pedicure wouldn't be a bad idea, seeing as I can't reach my toes at the moment

OP posts:
katster37 · 23/11/2009 20:22

I had a pedicure when I was 37 weeks, in the hope that, as I was definitely having my baby at 38 or so weeks (), my feet would look gorgeous. Now they are looking in need of a spruce-up.

What have people done re hair dye while pregnant? Last time I went to the hairdressers (in August I think ) she refused to dye my roots!!! So I thought I would wait. As such, my roots are about 6 inches long!

Laugs · 23/11/2009 20:27

All these suggestions are really cheering me up, thanks! Have a tiny bit of work to do tomorrow and then I plan to spoil myself while DD is at nursery.

PreggoK8 · 23/11/2009 20:31

Congratulations you ladies who've sprogged
And I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for those of you who are still waiting that things progress soon, and that this is it for hobnob BBL, I know what you mean about brain problems. When we were registering Joe, the woman asked me for my date of birth and I started giving my DP's! He had to correct me and I went a bit red and said I sorry, the birth must have given me brain damage! I got the impresseion she was used to that kind of thing though.

Some more good news, DP proposed last night!! We'll be announcing it properly once we pick the perfect ring together. I'm managing to have a big beaming smile on my face even thought I only had 3 hrs sleep and feel like cack.

Sorry to be a bit thick, but can anyone point me in the direction of the postnatal thread that everyone's on? Thanking you. xx

LissyGlitter · 23/11/2009 22:17

I dunno if i mentioned on this thread our dilemma about Emmelines middle name...well, a decision has been made, she is Emmeline Christabel Petra. She is doing brilliantly, feeding like mad. Ooh, and she is waking up for a feed now, so I had better go!

longwayaway · 23/11/2009 23:31

Congrats, PreggoK8!! That's very exciting news

BeckyBendyLegs · 24/11/2009 07:58

Preggo that is lovely Many, many congrats.

Look under 'being a parent' and 'post natal threads' and you'll find the November 09 one.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 24/11/2009 08:19

this is for all those waiting for babies especially the late ones!

ESPECIALLY hobnob if indeed you are still waiting (hope not!)

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 24/11/2009 08:20

preggo congratulations, it is very romantic!

sleeplessinthecity · 24/11/2009 08:38

Laugs get a massage, go to sleep, get a haircut and mani and pedi and do things for yourself..BE SELFISH...there is no time after that..don't feel guilty about it..JUST DO IT!!!
that goes for all of you..

Going to post some pics I think so look out for Charlotte soon..All the exhaustion is so worth it.

Have a good time folks..enjoy

katster37 · 24/11/2009 09:20

Yay, Preggo, congratulations!!! How lovely. Aaaaw!!

Sleepless, I actually think I am going to take your advice. I am normally too tight to go for manicure-type things (have done it once, the day before my wedding) but I am thinking, 3 days overdue, sod it!! Thank you. And there is a really nice cafe opposite, I may sit there and drink nice coffee, eat cake and admire my nails. Yaaaay, I have a plan for the day, instead of my usual (analyse every twinge, get excited get miserable, wallow in self-pity, google 'first signs of labour'). God I am a saddo.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 24/11/2009 09:29

oh katster that sounds nice! I am getting my hair cut! A day of pampering for the late ladies! There is a Thornton's cafe next door, you have put the seeds in my brain. Hair cut, followed by a large mug of hot chocolate with the works! Mmmmmm. Enjoy your manicure .

BeckyBendyLegs · 24/11/2009 09:30

Boo! Just thought I'd poke my head around the door - your babies are being very stubborn aren't they? I remember what it is like: DS1 was 12 days late. I thought I was going to be pregnant for ever but I wasn't - he's six years old now.

katster37 · 24/11/2009 09:53

I feel kind of resigned that I will end up being induced now! But surely a lot of babies must come naturally between 40 and 40+12? I hope so.

Pav mmmm, Thornton's cafe! Do they still give you a choccie with your drink? Yum.
