Glad I am not suffering alone with obsessions with cleaning. All the way through x factor results and Emma last night I was thinking 'must hoover, must hoover'

No signs except cleaning possession/burst of energy that baby's arrival is near, no BH, nothing. That's OK though as she has to wait until Friday at least- have only three more silversmithing lessons before craft fair in Nov, and two are on this wed and thur. Also, have not got Tens machine batteries. And skirting boards are still mucky in some rooms

Turtle hi again, hope all going well.

Ninja the Alton Towers idea sounds a bit mad to me too, but it depends on how you're feeling and it's hard to compare. If you can find yourself a cafe to sit in for a few hours you'd probably be ok, but if you're having to chase kids around you might be exhausted. Also, not much fun when you can't go on any rides

If you don't go, I'd let DP think it's because of him. Men are so easily pleased like that, it will pay dividends

DH brought up our lack of hospital bag again last night. He is getting worried about it. We have all the baby stuff except nappies, I think, so just need to get my things sorted. I just don't want to do it for some reason - not purely laziness. I think I'm getting scared...

You know your pregnancy notes do people actually bring them with them now when they go places?? Was wondering if the 'carry at all times' was for real or just an accessory??

Another growth scan weds, hoping to be on the right side of 10 pounds!

Need some nice comfy pj's - do I go maternity or just size bigger??

Have a good week, keep those legs crossed..

Ninjacat · 19/10/2009 10:18

Laugs I don't have hospital bag packed yet either. Started a list this morning though so that's a step in the right direction. Also bought nappies as Pampers had an offer on in Sainsburys.
We are just really skint at the moment and am getting a bit scared about having to go shopping. Didn't expect to be quite this skint at this time, grrrr

LissyGlitter · 19/10/2009 10:20

I was lying in the dark having contractions last night, but they never really seemed to get going properly, and then they tailed off.

DP gave me a big talk about how I shouldn't have the baby early as it is no good for a baby to be premature, and he knows it's hard for me but I just need to hold on a few weeks. Like I was having contractions on purpose or something! Bloody men

I think he suspected me because I cheered up so much the more painful the contractions got...

My mum was trying to be helpful last night by telling me she had mildly painful BH for a week before having my sister, and I will know when it is real labour. Thing is, I remember when she had my sister, and she kept going to hospital with false alarms. So there's no point her trying to play the older, wiser woman! I don't think she thinks I remember as I was only 8, but for some reason that is something that has survived in my notoriously sieve-like brain.

Right, back to the stupid assignment. It's not even an essay, it's a bibliography for an imaginary essay. I can see why they have set it, so the 18 year old freshers can practise doing a bibliography, but it is very annoying for those of us who already know how to do it! Really I should be physically in the library, but I am doing as much as I can online so I can sit in my dressing gown having brews and supervising cbeebies watching Annoyed at myself for leaving it till the last minute though. Don't think I'll get a good mark, but it doesn't count towards anything anyway as it is just a practise assignment, so I am struggling to build up any enthusiasm!

Laugs · 19/10/2009 10:22

Those of you who are having scans - is this because everyone gets them or because you are bigger/ smaller than dates? Just wondering as I haven't heard about having another scan (last one was at 20 weeks).

weston I'd just go for bigger pyjamas. Only because I am absolutely sick of maternity wear! I got some in Primark for £7, with a button down top that should be fine for breastfeeding/ skin-to-skin.

I haven't started carrying my notes with me, but I guess I will from about 37/38 weeks. At the moment my notes don't really say much that I couldn't tell them anyway (in an emergency).

i have started carrying my notes, but only because I have a massive handbag that they fit in easily.

scarlotti · 19/10/2009 10:24

I finished packing the towels in my bag last night and then was rewarded with 3 hours of contrations! Have been back to bed now and haven't had any more, but now feel like he's much lower down and sitting squarely on my cervix. Have physio at 11 to get my spd friendly labour positions but don't think I'll be venturing very far otherwise.

weston I've never carried my notes around, unless we've gone somewhere quite far near the time (step sis' wedding at 38 weeks last time which is 3 hours drive away) and then I just put the bag in the boot too!

Laugs · 19/10/2009 10:26

Lissy at your DP thinking you were bringing on contractions all by yourself. If only it were that easy!

Ninja I don't suppose you are eligible for the Sure Start Grant? I assumed we wouldn't be as we weren't last time, and we don't get income support etc, but it turned out we were. It's been a huge help.

Should we have a list from the hospital about what to pack? ie how does everyone know how many towels they need?

skorpion · 19/10/2009 10:38

Good morning!!

Well, it's my first Monday on mat leave. What does one do with oneself? To be honest our house is such a tip that all I think I can do is sit in the middle and cry. What to do first?!? Thank god there's MN!

Actually I'm fibbing, I have of course my neglected book-keeping to do.

Turtle - welcome back. I hope you are well.

Tabby - I'm glad you survived Friday. I think it was Ninja that said that this is the begining of the process - let the healing begin. All the best.

Wook - you're always welcome around here, I think my house would satisfy even the most rampant cleaning urges. Any advice on hoe I get some of those myself?

I also have an apple shaped bump! It's been like that for ages. I just thought it's because she's lying on one side. And my belly button is still in.

Thanks for all the advice about bras, I'll get measured in M&S in a couple of weeks I think.

Well, I better go and do some work. The whole idea of having six weeks off is to catch up on things, right? Good day everyone, xx.

Oh dear...its getting closer..
My cleaning obsession seems confined to the kitchen...the sitting room is just a disaster with all of DD's toys etc. My fairy is coming to do some ironing and some hoovering for me later....I also have to look after next door's hamster for the week as its half term...I have no idea..Don't even like little mousey type things..But couldn't say no as they may be the ones we have to take DD to if all hell breaks lose..Long story about my mum and her NOT being able to make it here in time due to her bunion op...

I live in tracksuit bottoms..don't know about you lot..but anything else is just uncomfortable.. I also don't leave the house much..thats bad isn't it..

Thanks Scarlotti, I'd forgotten about towels..after those maternity pads, nothing seems to fit in my bag..Packed newborn babygros and 0-3 month baby gros..DD didn't fit into the newborns last time...WIll post again as DD is now pressing all the buttons...ciao=

skorpion · 19/10/2009 10:43

Oh, about Christmas presents. I'm going down the culinary route. Planning to make chocolates, almond biscotti and a mean Polish spice cake as presents. And Kyte's cookies look great, too. Too skint to buy presents and I really do hate spending money on things people may just find useless. I may do some handmade cards, too.

LissyGlitter · 19/10/2009 10:44

I haven't packed any towels tbh. The hospital will have plenty I'm sure. Last time I ended up wearing hospital gowns for the labour and birth, and hospital supplied net knickers and pads all the time I was there. They gave us stacks of nappies for free (reps from various companies I think) and the hospital supplied a big bottle of head to toe johnsons for washing me and DD. Most of my bag went unused, i just wore my own pjs once I was mobile and dressed DD in her own babygros once she was allowed to wear clothes (she was jaundiced, so was sunbathing in the nude under a lamp most of the time!) I did end up having to sellotape nursing pads to my boobs using that dressing tape as my bras were so ridiculously small once my milk came in, and otherwise the milk dripping was annoying, but that was just because I hadn't yet got round to buying any bigger bras.

I just found it a lot easier to use the hospital stuff, less for DP/my mum to take home to wash. The ward would have been doing massive washes every day anyway, so a few more towels wouldn't matter.

I have packed everything else you are meant to, but not stressing about it as I know the hospital have spares anyway.

weston · 19/10/2009 10:51

laugs i just got extra 32 and 36 week growth scans this time around because my bmi was too high to start with , quite nice in a way cause i do think not having one post 20 weeks is too long a gap

turtle23 · 19/10/2009 11:03

To those who haven't packed bags due to laziness/not wanting to admit it/whatever...just make sure that you have a small bag with money, hand fan, flip flops (seriously),a few drinks and some snacks.(and maybe small thing of antibac wipes) People go into hospital all the time without being able to grab their bags and hospitals are set up for this. You will be so very grateful of these few things though...trust me..
I too am sitting here thinking I should be spring cleaning but ending up MNing eating KitKats..

Sleepless ARGH! with your hamster talk
you have reminded me of my horrible dream last night, that I gave birth to a rodent type creature, which I wondered what to do with and how to feed for so long that it expired and lay on the floor with its mouth open and four yellow rodenty teeth bared!!!!! after which (in my dream) I started to cry as I knew I would have to start trying for a baby again and face all those ttc/mc/pregnancy ordeals once more. Then I woke up and realised I was in fact still pregnant, with what felt like a baby as opposed to a rat, huge relief.
What on earth????????!!!!!!!
I don't think I want to analyse this dream much!
I blame ds for coming and sleeping in our bed every five minutes throughout the night!

NInja hope scan goes well

Weston I agree with Laugs Primark, one size up, cheap and fab- great button up PJ tops for bfing and a fabbo pair of slipper boots with faux sheepskin for £3.50 which I have lived in since.

Just got GTT results over phone and all clear so am going to eat enormous piece of shortbread to celebrate!
