kyte I think that's why you and others are very sensible for not going to church in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Insane as it sounds, I do think people regard going to church as different from their usual activities/ duties and something they couldn't miss, even if they are sick. It's probably a great comfort to them at a time when they need it, but not so nice for everybody else.

Speaking of which, a colleague of DH's really annoyed me on Friday. She'd been told if she took any more sick leave, she'd have to explain herself as she'd been off 3 times this year. So her revenge was to come into work, but cough and sneeze very loudly and deliberately all day without covering her mouth. DH sits next to her. She knew DD had been in hospital the week before, which had developed from a cold (she'd even bought her a little present) and is always asking how my pregnancy is going, but she had some stupid little point to prove. She even said to DH "You'll have to stay away from DD mind". How immature and generally idiotic can you be?

I know kyte. She must be at least 30, she has a 13 yr old child.

hobnob57 · 12/10/2009 18:16

Oooh, good luck erika. Is that 5 weeks early? Hope you are both ok xxx

Yes kyte I know it's really irresponsible. I'm just fired up with pg impatience at saving all my appointments for this week once I'd finished work and having all my best laid plans scuppered. Was SOOOO looking forward to osteopath! I'm being really selfish but once I've ranted a bit I'll be fine . I might try to find childcare for DD and go to the dentist myself just to get it over with.

I just hope that I clean my hands thoroughly enough before going for scan/seeing MW tomorrow at the maternity hospital in case I'm carrying infection too. MW on phone didn't seem too phased when I asked.

I've been meaning to say welcome to the newbies and also so sorry to hear tigger's news. Selfish rants are always put into perspective on here by other people's experiences.

BeckyBendyLegs · 12/10/2009 18:20

Ooooh didn't notice Erika's message - I hope you are ok. This might be it

Oh my we're popping off one by one!!!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 12/10/2009 18:23

Does the baby still move when you have contractions, or are they generally still and waiting for the downwards descent ? I can't remember from DD if she moved or not.

scarlotti · 12/10/2009 18:25

Erika how exciting!!!

hobnob I wouldn't worry about the hospital tomorrow, just give your hands a good going over with the hand gel they all have and it will be fine. It's the spots that are contagious until they scab over and you don't have any so highly unlikely you'd pass it on. Can you find someone to cover for your appointments? Shame to miss out if there's any way of sorting them.

As for names, we still haven't decided. Have a shortlist of 2 really. One we both really like but it's very Welsh and DH is worried nobody will know how to spell/pronounce it unless instructed. My attitude is tough, they'll soon learn but he's much more of a thinker and worrier than me!

BeckyBendyLegs · 12/10/2009 18:29

Pavlov I think they tend to be quite still but to be honest I can't remember as I was screaming 'it rude word hurts' at the top of my lungs the last time!!! I'd be a very bad Scientologist giving birth.

BBL I surprised myself, dh and my best f who was with me by not swearing at all until dds head crowned, when I shouted 'insert swear word and blasphemy' , that was it.

I can't remember either.

scarlotti · 12/10/2009 18:40

Ha ha, when we arrived at the hospital I made some sarcy comment about the woman next door making a right racket needless to say I was making the same amount of racket a short while later

I can't remember either about movement, but I think they do tend to slow down a little as you get nearer d-day.

Erica Goodluck and looks like you beat me to it as Just got back from my checkup and i'm already 2cm dilated!! No contractions yet (only stopped my anti-contraction meds yesterday) but it'll be probably (fingers crossed) sooner rather than later! Sorts out my epidural probleme though...by the time I make it to the maternity ward I should be quite far along

So much still to do including babys name although dp thinks weve chosen i'm still not sure!! Found it much harder than with ds1 as I wanted a v short name with the same pronunciation in french/english plus wih no horrible french nicknames. Finally the list had 1 name on it!!!! I mean i like it ut i feel a bit like i'm being forced into it IYSWIM I'd have liked a choice

Trikken · 12/10/2009 19:23

dont think i sweared or screamed, think i nearly cried at one point when the mw told me i wasnt pushing, and when the asked me if i wanted to feel the babies head i said "No just get the baby out!!"

raggie · 12/10/2009 19:31

Evening all 41 messages already!!!!!! What are we like?!

I can't believe erika is off to hospital too! Good luck erika

I have been having braxton hicks all evening and someone at work today told me my bump looked a lot lower - maybe mine is beginning the descent already...! Maybe we will all be early - our babies are as impatient to chat to the world as us...?

No, I am sure I will be here til the bitter end (of November) although it would be nice to go into labour now and get to start my mat leave early - still just under two weeks for me and I am feeling so exhausted.

Who is still working on this thread now?

raggie · 12/10/2009 19:35

Oh and congrats to you to maman2tom...that's what I meant about us all being early!

sleeplessinthecity · 12/10/2009 19:41

Good Luck Erika and maman!!! oh my oh my....is it the boys that are turning up early???????

How exciting.

Trikken · 12/10/2009 19:43

seems so, we need a girl to come along soon!

sleeplessinthecity · 12/10/2009 19:45

Ps I only swore once during the pushing stage..it just takes AGES

EasyEggs · 12/10/2009 19:46

Omgoodness! A new thread and 2 imminent arrivals, wooohooo!!

Just a quicky to add to list and I'll be back for the gossip later

erika good luck - keep thinking of Bryn and you'll keep going

raggie I'm still at work and should be until 30 Oct. Although when I mentioned that to my midwife she didn't look convinced that I'd make it there, but I'm having issues with blood pressure at the moment so I think that's the main reason. I feel fine so I'm just trying to keep as much maternity until after the birth as possible.

We've told everyone, including parents, that they will have to wait until the birth to find out any names. Everyone is just too happy to share their opinions on what's a good or bad name. And I'm one of the worst culprits for 'knowing a girl at school with that name who was horrible'

I'm a bit sad today as I asked my midwife what it would take to have a home birth considering my blood pressure and she smiled very nicely and said it would have to plummet now until the birth! But she added 'there's always next time' so there goes that plan.

More babies on the way! I got a few alarmed looks in ASDA today. DP had nipped for a fag, and we just needed some nappies, so I was pushing a sleeping DD around in her pram, but kept getting pains (I'm still apparently just having BH and a strained muscle though, don't get excited!) and stopping to lean on the pram.

Ooh, and you all probably have worked this one out, but the swimming baths works wonders! DP wanted to take DD, but I wasn't keen, given that I'm in so much pain lately just walking, but DP persuaded me, I dressed in a vest top and leggings as i have no swimming costume that fits, and as soon as I had got in the water I felt like a new woman! I can't swim anyway, but just standing and moving about in the water was amazing. I paid for it after though, BH have hardly stopped and everything from my boobs to my knees hurts!

The best bit of swimming was being able to carry DD about and play with her, as I am so stiff out of the water I am no use to her, poor thing. Earlier today she ran off in the supermarket, and I was so glad I had DP with me as I had no chance of catching her. She has been playing up today, everything she said seemed to start with "I want..." or "I can't..."

MIL has told me to choose a second hand double buggy with a budget of up to £90, so I am going to have a poke about on ebay and see what is for offer. I wasn't going to get one, but DD is still prone to running off with no warning, or throwing herself to the ground, as well as still having the odd nap in the pram, so I think it could be a good idea.

Just adding myself in. Wow - two more in labour!!! This thread is moving so quickly!! Erika really hope everything's going smoothly

FairyBex what did your MW say about when you work until? I am working until 7 Nov and MW said to work as long as poss so I don't get bored I was rather hoping she would say that the 7 Nov was far too late, thus giving me an excuse!! I am quite excited that I am interviewing for my own mat cover this Friday though!

Laugs am for you at that horrid woman at your DH's work. What did he say? What a horrible woman.

I am seriously stressing about this oblique position that baby is in.... APparently is quite rare and not v good... I want him to be normal!!
