lizzie9442 · 21/08/2009 16:21

Thought I would start a new thread for may. Just got bfp and I am really excited. I think I'm due 30th April/1st May but there are so many people on April already. Heres hoping for a healthy pregnancy. I will just wait for lots more of you to join me. xxxx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hophophippidtyhop · 20/09/2009 14:14

Ha, I have been looking at prams, even though I have a perfectly good one in the cupboard! Dying to buy something, but don't really need much. Just feel it's too early, but can't wait to get a few tiny bodysuits, a new sling, top up my cloth nappies, etc.
Both lots of parents know now, and my sister. I've told one person at work who has a ds 4 months older than my dd - his wife is also expecting and again there'll be a 4 month difference between our younger children!

suey2 · 20/09/2009 15:25

I haven't even thought about buying amthing, tbh. It was such a shock to discover all of my materiity clothes when I opened the box to find some bigger bras. Have just put on some jeans from the box: how comfy are they? Feeling a bit bloated so a welcome relief from my others.

I have been pondering about what sex I would like this time around. I don't mind either way, but for dd I think a sister would be nicer than a brother since there will only be 2. It would also be nostalgic to see another daughter in dd's old stuff.

I guess I'll let myself get more into buying stuff after the early scan, booked for 2nd October.

schipo · 20/09/2009 15:37

aha, thanks to all for glossary link, it's all getting clearer now (apart from the bfp?)

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/09/2009 15:51

BFP - big fat positive (result, on a pregnancy test)
BFN - big fat negative.

I have to admit we've already bought a double buggy that was going for a song on eBay. It's ideal for what we need so may as well, even if it sits in a corner til the summer.

We probably won't need to buy much else, we've got a carseat, moses basket, cot and all ds's clothes (although from weaning onwards half of them are probably ruined as I never got the hang of getting stains out using non-bio)

So as long as it's a boy (which I know it will be, because I'd never be lucky enough to have the girl I crave!) then we'll be sorted.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 20/09/2009 16:23

I don't think there's much for us to buy either, we have everything saved from DD. Although if it's a boy I will probably need some new clothes.

I've been debating the double buggy thing and I think I'm going to stick with my current buggy and use a buggy board or something.

pigleychez · 20/09/2009 16:36

Heffa- Ive been debating the double buggy thing too. I too was kinda hoping to just use a buggy board with my current pram. Hows your DD's walking. My DD was walking at 11mths so im guessing my May she will happier walking rather than in the pushchair. Hope so as im soooo fussy with pushchairs/prams. Seen a few doubles I like but they are in the £5/600 range which seems a tad excessive if DD will only be in for a few months.

I have been felling abit sad actaully about not buying anything for this bubba. We didnt find out the sex with DD so bought everything neuteral anyway so dont need a thing. I have tons of white and neuteral clothes too, plus a few boys bits a friend gave me from last time. I really enjoyed baby shopping last time.. Wish I could go and buy everything again for this LO. I may buy the odd outfit though neuteral again as we have decided to keep this one a suprise too.

Anyone else had thoughts if they intend to find out the sex?

babytum1 · 20/09/2009 16:44

Pigley - I've just been discussing with DH whether we should find out the sex of the baby, he's adamant we keep it as a surprise but i'd quite like to know just so i can buy lots of pink or blue stuff!
Already planning in my head what the nursery will look like!
Trying not to get too excited yet as only 5 weeks and first baby - so hard not to though!

babytum1 · 20/09/2009 16:48

For all you second time mums or more - when did you start buying stuff for your first baby?
Did you wait til you knew everything seemed ok or did you go crazy with buying things straight away?!

pigleychez · 20/09/2009 17:14

Babytum1- Dont find out the sex... then you get to go shopping twice!! Once for neuterals then again for pinks or blues! Plus having neuteral things means your ready for the next one!

I think I bought the first thing the day after my 12 weeks scan. A little teddy. I took ages researching everything big before I bought it though. Clothes I started after the first scan, just picking bits up as I saw them.

sweetkitty · 20/09/2009 17:26

Oh prams now you are all talking lol I am a bit of a pramaholic, only thing is I sold my Phil and Teds a few months before we decided to have number 4 so will need another one for sure. DD2 was 2 1/2 years when DD3 was born and the P&T was great even for the 7 months until she refused to go in it and walked everywhere. The thing I like about a P&T is it can go from a double to single depending on who you have with you.

DD3 will be 22 months when DB4 is born so will need a double. I don't really like buggy boards and the way they make your bum stick out when you walk, also as I live in the land of cold and rain I would prefer DD3 to be in a nice seat in a buggysnuggle than standing in the winter. Once DB4 is out the cocoon bit she/(he) can go in the front and DD3 can have a seat when she gets tired.

I have been looking at a iCandy Peach Blossom but at nearly £700 there is no way I could justify it.

Yes we will be finding out the sex, have done 3 times before and strongly suspect we will be using the same little pink clothes from last time. First time waited until after 20 week scan then went mad with the pink.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 20/09/2009 17:45

Pigley - DD walked at 9 months and already doesn't like being in the buggy. She climbed out of it at a garden centre the other day. I have a back carrier which she's a bit more resigned happier in so I could use and the buggy. We use a Bugaboo Gecko which I love to bits, so I'd hate to get rid of it. I was planning on the new baby being in the sling for a while as well.

babytum1 - we started buying most stuff at around 7 months, but that's only because we moved house then so we waited until then to buy anything - it drove me mad! I did have lots of time to research though.

Re gender: We found out the sex of DD, I wasn't too bothered but DH was very keen to know and reckoned he felt much closer to the baby afterwards. We bought everything neutral anyway though in case there was a mistake! I think we'll be finding out again this time - gives me more time to stock up on boy bits if needed!

Hollyoaks · 20/09/2009 17:46

First time round the nursery was painted and furnished between 12 and 20 weeks because we were so excited. Probably wont buy too much this time round as have everything from last time. Will probably get dd a bed and make her room pink and transfer the nursery stuff to the box room ready for the baby.

We won't be finding out the sex either, I liked the surprise last time .

suey2 · 20/09/2009 17:51

Babytum I didn't buy anything until I was about 30 weeks, and was reluctant to do so even then. I'm one of those who doesn't like to tempt fate.
Buggies: I think I'll see how I go with my bugaboo with a buggy board: I have tried dd with a board, but she's not into it just now. If she's still not when I am 7 months ish, I'll think about a double: they just look terribly cumbersome.

The first lot of stuff you buy can be quite neutral, as pigley says: it's only babygros anyway at the start.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/09/2009 18:11

We'll definitely be finding out the sex, if we can. I think 5 months is long enough to wait for a surprise! Impatient sod that I am. As I said though, I'm almost certain it'll be another boy. It's weird though, I can't imagine loving another child as much as ds - I'm sure I will but it's hard to imagine now.

I'm pretty sure we will need the double buggy, even though ds will be 2.9 when this baby is born he's a bit unreliable and I wouldn't trust him not to suddenly run away. We have an old pliko P3 travel system with a built-in toddler step, for when the double isn't needed any more.

I started buying things a bit too soon with ds, tbh! got things we wouldn't need for over a year, like a highchair etc, and things that we'd never need, like a nappy stacker!

sweetkitty · 20/09/2009 18:13

This poor baby won't have a nursery either, none of mine had as they have all been in with me for at least 12 months. DD3 went into DD2's old room and DD2 went in with DD1. This time we will have to get another car and an extension!!!

carikube8 · 20/09/2009 18:48

We were very fortunate in that we got a lot of hand me downs from DD's cousins so we really didn't buy very much. Apart from the essential stuff for labour/immediately after birth we really didn't buy anything whilst I was pg.

We now have to hand a lot of the stuff back as SIL is having another baby soon so we will have to see whether we can then borrow it back again or whether we'll need to buy things this time...

Prinpo · 20/09/2009 18:49

Hello all, happy to join you. DC3 due 27th May - just found out today. Couldn't be happier, although feeling a touch nervous as had mc at 11 weeks earlier this year. Still, fingers crossed.

So far we have two daughters, both of whom are desperate for a little brother. DH wants another girl so at least someone will get their own way. I think we'll find out the sex - didn't with number 1, did with number 2 and I preferred knowing.

Nursery is currently world's worst dumping ground so there's work to be done there. At the moment, though, I'm just getting used to the idea and trying to relax!

Best wishes to everyone.

mmmmmchocolate · 20/09/2009 19:18

Hey all, can I tag along? Got my BFP this morning bit of a shock because we only started trying last month! Have worked out my date to the 20th May. Exciting

Hollyoaks · 20/09/2009 19:49

Hi prinpo nice to see you

Hi chocolate us too, one month and bingo. Came as quite a shock.

pamelat · 20/09/2009 19:54

prinpo and chocolate, welcome

May seems very popular

We are definately going to find out the sex. We already have a girl, we found out with her and I just "need" to know.

I am not sure what I would prefer. I maybe have a very very slight preference for another girl, same for DH. His nan (who is 94 so we let her get away with things) says it "has to be a boy or else you will have to try again".

I am starting to go off tea .... I am normally an 8 cup a day girl

pamelat · 20/09/2009 19:56

Us too.

With DD we conceived within 2 weeks of my coming off the pill. 2 months this time but not a lot happening in the bedroom (for lots of reasons) for the first month so no surprise there

I sometimes feel bad that it has happened so quickly. Feel incredibly lucky.

I have a close friend going through her first round of IVF. I have not told her yet. She will find out in a month as to whether it has been successful, fingers crossed.

Haribolicious · 20/09/2009 19:56

Hi All

Can I join too? Am a bit of a lurker but got a BFP this morning, after a suspect couple of weeks feeling really nauseous but managed to hang on a bit to test! This will be DC2 and am very excited due around 16 May 2010.

mmmmmchocolate · 20/09/2009 20:06

Thanks for the welcome I think I know how you feel pamelat. A colleague at work had a miscarriage only a few weeks ago so for that reason i'm going to keep it quiet as long as I can. Congrats Haribo!!

sweetkitty · 20/09/2009 20:30
