Thought I would start a new thread for may. Just got bfp and I am really excited. I think I'm due 30th April/1st May but there are so many people on April already. Heres hoping for a healthy pregnancy. I will just wait for lots more of you to join me. xxxx

Wow, lizzie, I don't know how you will keep that secret for 7 more weeks! Can see your reasoning under the circumstances, but that's really asking a lot of yourself. Very best of luck to you though; I hope you won't have too much sickness to contend with.

I bought some folic acid today, and cancelled my Weight Watchers membership (have just lost a stone and was hoping to lose a bit more, but never mind). Little things like that are making it seem real, and I am getting really excited.

Also found some sort of early nesting instinct that led me to properly clear and dust the top of our bedroom dresser for the first time in at least a year .

I do have moments of worry about my redundancy thing, but the pregnancy has made it seem less of a dominant issue in our lives. I got a bit sad going past my office in the car today, though. I hate the fact that soon it'll be sitting empty, and when I look up at the windows I will know that nobody is in there working away. I've been lucky enough to have a job I genuinely like a lot, and I know that is pretty rare.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 29/08/2009 15:56

I predict that FS's DD will grow up to be a leading figure in the science & medical community.

memorylapse · 29/08/2009 17:58

lizzie..can see why you dont want to tell DH, but 7 weeks is a long time to keep it to yourself.

we are not telling any family, or the kids..until 12 weeks..I know my 5 year old will be so excited but Id hate to have to break the news to her if our little bean didnt stick..Im not afraid to say that Im incredibly anxious about this pregnancy already even though I promised myself that I wouldnt

Bettymamma · 29/08/2009 20:24

Hi - i'm going to tentatively join you all. Tested last Monday and got a BFP. Think I'm due 4th May so...

I have 2 dd's and am slightly nervous of the thought of a boy. Fear of the unknown i guess. I'm VERY slightly nauseous and feel very loving and kind towards everyone at the moment and have just blubbed my eyes out at X factor.

Told my mother the news a couple of days ago (because i was back home for a few days - we live in separate countries, and she said 'oh no you poor thing' and wasn't very happy. Is this the case once people have more than 2 children?? I was quite shocked by the reaction. It's put me off telling anyone for another 8 months!

Bettymamma · 29/08/2009 20:28

i'm so dumb - i was looking at page 1, apologies

brightredballoon · 29/08/2009 21:01

great to hear back from you Lizzie. Good luck on keeping it a secret, due to your previous MC will you get an early scan? That way perhaps it would give you a piece of mind everything is ok and could give the scan picture to your DH?

Welcome Bettymamma, I am sure your Mum's reaction was just because she wasn't expecting the news? I hope she has something nicer to say to you once it has sunk it.

sweetkitty · 29/08/2009 21:14

Evening ladies

bettymamma - hello and welcome and congratulations, yes I have found the same once you are over the regulation 3 children people feel they must make comments, including "glutton for punishment" "nutter" "at it like rabbits" "don't have a telly" "trying for a boy" etc

I was saying to DP tonight that I am not telling until I am 12 weeks as I don't feel up to all the comments yet when every night I will go to bed lie with my hand on my tummy and tell the bean to stick on in there

jan9ne - go on test put yourself out your misery it drives you insane the not knowing or is that just me?

Lizzie - poor you I have only had one mc and know how bad that was, to have 3 you poor thing, have you had any investigations into why you mc? A few people I know on my other thread who had recurrent mc were taking now what was it some sort of anti coagulant and aspirin of something, one woman had had 4 mcs in a row and she had a baby girl all is not lost, I can understand you not telling your DH but it's a long time and you need some support, here we are offered a reassurance scan at 8 weeks am hoping for one again, if you get to 8 weeks and theres a heartbeat you are 90% likely to go on, at 10 weeks it's 99%, might be worth looking into and you can always go private if it's an option at any time from about 6 weeks it's about £80

FS - DD1 and 2 know all about babies too, they used to come to my scans and appointments and would practice their midwifery skills on me, they know some babies come out a special passageway and some out the tummy. I had to go through telling them that the baby in Mummy's tummy had to go back to heaven as it's wee body wasn't strong enough for it so it had to wait for a new wee body, they were fine with it. They don't know about periods though I have only had about 4 in the past 3 years.

Do you know apart from 2 months I have been pregnant or BFing for the past 5 1/2 years no wonder my body is a wreck.

I am still taking my preggie multivit and I take calcium tablets, DD3 really took it out me last time compared to the other two

Bettymamma · 29/08/2009 21:32

Hi again Sweetkitty - wise words to all of us. I think i'm going to keep queit to everyone else for the next 12 weeks. 5+1/2 yrs of pg or BF. You must seriously love babies!

Lizzie - i was thinking what you were saying and i reckon you should try to get an early scan like bright red balloon and SK suggested. Wouldn't your dh be more devastated if he didn't know and god forbid something happened - though i'm sure it won't and i'm rooting for everyone on here. Of course it's your choice and you are understandably worried.

brightredballoon - hello, my mum is a little crazy and not fond of babies (but likes kids age 2 to 10 - quote) so we'll see. I should have waited to tell her but that would have been wrong too.

Right off to bed. Nice to have found you all.

ForcesSweetheart · 30/08/2009 00:10

Aww Bettymama, I just saw your profile pics, your wee girl is so adorable!

Dorothy, she says she wants to be a Doctor Football Player.

SK, with all your experience I hope you know I'm going to be bending your ear something chronic when I start trying to bf (as I'll probably face all the same problems as with L!)

Lizzie, I'm with all the others on the early scan. I had one at 5 and a bit wks with L and will be insisting on another early one this time.

Betty, my mum and nana were really unenthusiastic when i told them, coz we all thought I wouldn't be entitled to the full departmental maternity pay package as I wouldn't have been back at work long enough (I only started back June 29th after a 5 yr career break). Turns out the career break doesn't matter, and I will get the works - the family suddenly became much more excited when I found that out! Could she perhaps be worried about whether it'll be a financial strain on you?

memorylapse - dya mind if I ask why you expect tp be induced early? I was last time coz of type 2 diabetes and obstetric cholestasis and ended up with an emergency cs so hoping for planned cs this time.

lizzie9442 · 30/08/2009 07:39

Morning everyone,

Yeah I had early scans through my last pregnancy and that ended in mc so I'm not sure if I want an early one this time as I think I just get more worried. I'm really not sure what to do to be honest. I am taking baby aspirin and pregnacare daily so am hoping it will help. I'm not sure when to tell hubbie though. Do you think I should tell him when I get the scan letter through for 12 weeks? Or should I go for 12 week scan and then tell him when I know everything is ok? Fingers crossed that I get that far. Its quite strange no one knowing it almost feels like its making it go faster all ready which is a good thing. If I tell my hubbie now he will be really worried that I will mc and it makes me worry more which only adds to the stress and it can't be good for the baby.

I do have 3 children already and I had a mc between them and then the last 3 pregnancies have been mc. So I know I'm very lucky to have children and I do know my body can do it but I have always wanted 4.

hope everyone else is ok and the list is growing which is really good
xxxx

Ahh Lizzie I really feel for you. I'm not sure what to suggest now. Just hoping for you that this one sticks and time passes quickly.

ForcesSweetheart - that pic is my eldest a few years ago - i forgot the pic was still on! She's a cutie. Oh - my dd1 had a nightmare with BF (eventually turned out she has a prob with her lip and it joining to the gum) but dd2 fed like a dream AND it didn't hurt. So you never know...

Think you're right about my mum. We live in different countries too which worries/upset her.

Right, early start today. Will check in later.

Kaystar · 30/08/2009 09:37

Morning all,

Lizzie, not really sure what to advise either. I know that I am finding it hard not to tell close friends already, but then that is how I am - have never been able to keep a secret for very long! On the other hand, I can understand that you don't want him to worry. Again, though, then it is a lot for you to be worried about on your own... I really hope you find a way.

You're right, sweetkitty, that doesn't seem to be be the right due date for me - when I put it in again, the conception date that came up seemed a few days too late given my ovulation day. So here's an updated list with a new due date for me

Bettymamma, I'm sure it is just because your mum is in another country and that always makes it harder. I am in the same situation, but my mum is coming for a visit in a few weeks time, so we've decided to tell them then - mainly as they really will notice that I am not drinking alcohol... My mum is also "not keen" on small babies (finds them boring compared with children), but I'm hoping that a first grandchild will change that

Jan9ne · 30/08/2009 10:13

Hello everyone,
i messaged a couple days ago to say i couldn't face testing. Well, still no period and still haven't tested. I am now 2 days late - cycle is generally 30 days. I had one 31 day cycle in the last few months and one 35 day so i am going to wait til i am past that day.
Have been feeling v tired and had to go to bed early last night with terrible headache. not a headachy person unless i have been on the sauce! I got bad headaches during first pregnancy so could be a sign.... I'll know for sure i'm pg when (if) i get itchy nipples!
I really feel i am going to get af any minute. Was completely convinced friday and said to dh i could def feel it coming. I normally have snotty discharge (sorry tmi!) b4 af too but d/c quite light. Last pregnancy was also convinced af coming and i didn't get a positive until a week late. Is first response a good test to use?
Everyone here sounds v nice. Sorry that my msge is all me, me, me! I'm not telling anyone else you see apart from hubby and i don't want to go on too much. Not telling friends/family til after 12 week scan if i am lucky enough to fall. xxx

memorylapse · 30/08/2009 10:42

Lizzie..If I were in your shoes..I would tell DH...what ever happens..you will at least have DH supporting you..and you want him there sharing in your 12 week scan..if you are very worried..you could always go into the scan first..then DH could be called in afterwards.

memorylapse · 30/08/2009 10:48

Forces Sweetheart..I was induced last 3 times because I have big babies and had shoulder dystocia with ds which was horrible..so induction at 38 weeks is usually planned..ds2 still managed to be 9lb 7 at 38 weeks..

Jan9ne · 30/08/2009 11:34

Oh my Goodness! I caved in and went and bought a cheapie Boots test and, guess what, it's positive! I'm in shock - i was 90% certain it was going to be negative. Wow. This means i will be due 5 may. I'm 37 and have a dd of 19 months. Not telling anyone apart from dh of course until after first scan so if you don't mind me joining your gang and ranting occasionally i hope that's ok

lizzie9442 · 30/08/2009 12:07

ForcesSweetheart · 30/08/2009 13:29

Anyone know why different sources give me different EDDs? The due date calculator on here says that with a conception date of 10th Aug (day I know I ovulated) that my due date is 2st May, but Ovusoft says with ov date of 10th Aug my due date is 3rd May. Which should I be working on?

ForcesSweetheart · 30/08/2009 13:32

sorry that should say 1st not 2st!

Jan9ne · 30/08/2009 13:34

Thank you! Congrats to you all too! I'm so excited! Trying to temper it tho, will worry about m/c and all the other stuff but we all worry about these things don't we. Hubby really wants to tell his family but i am saying no. Last time they drove me mad around my due date - asking if i had any twinges etc. Thought i was going to go crazy. Adding 8 days to my edd when we tell them so that by the time they start driving me mad the baby will (hopefully) be here.

Anyone going for or have experience of a homebirth? I want a homebirth this time. Could have easily had dd at home - it was a very quick and straight forward birth. The worst part was hanging around all day waiting for the dr to check her before they let us go. so i'd love to hear any pos or neg home birth exp

Stinax · 30/08/2009 14:13

Hi everyone and many congratulations.

I couldn't live without mumsnet during my first pregnancy so I'm back 5 years later with my second. I tested early (I like a drink and the odd ciggy so I thought it was best to know asap so I could knock them on the head). I tested positive last Saturday but I'm only 4+3 and it feels like a life time already lol, May just seems sooo far away! Looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming months.
