FS - please do not be jealous, throughout my 2 HBS I said to the MW that if there was ever a time she would prefer me to go to hospital I would, no questions asked, she said she has had women put themselves and their babies in danger because all they can see is they want a HB and to not have one is a failure. So you have had a baby before, you know you have complications but by planning a c-section you are putting you and your babies health first and that makes you an excellent mother. As long as you and the baby are fine it doesn't really matter which way they come out.

I swear I have put on weight and my tummy is bloated, could be the vast amount of green and blacks chocolate I have been eating since my birthday but I feel a right porker already, would prefer to think it was the bean, might be as it's my fourth I have no stomach muscles left whatsoever.

brightredballoon · 31/08/2009 16:24

I also feel bloated SK. Can't seem to control my sweet craving (I had that with DD too).

I know you have used these boards for years as you said SK but just wondered was it you who posted in SLEEP about your child waking at 5am? I have a rubbish memory but think it was at a time when my DD (born a month after yours) was also waking at 5 ish. I think this is going back over a year ago tho. Just wondered if it was you and if you found a resolution as my DS is now doing this (19 months).

Hope everyone is ok, I think its a bank holiday down south isnt it?

sweetkitty · 31/08/2009 20:15

brightred - no wasn't me I'm afraid, I didn't know your DD is a month younger than mine so 12 months then mine used to wake 5-6 times at night and only a boob would put her back to sleep, we night weaned her at a year and she is a great little sleeper, we had to wake all the girls at 7.30am this morning. Are you Scottish as well then, when you said bank hol down South, DP was off today but not the older two so he did the school/nursery run and said "this is well stressful" bless him and I waited in the car with DD3.

He's bought his own car today, we have the MPV and he needs one of his own now (long story), need to start looking at 7 seaters after Christmas

brightredballoon · 31/08/2009 21:13

Hi SK

I always confuse things! My DD is 3.5 yrs old - a Feb 06 birth (my word you must think I waste no time - a 12 month old and 19month old DS lol

brightredballoon · 31/08/2009 21:31

OMG SK a 7 seater?! Sounds huge but very practical. We will need a car that fits 3 car seats in the back as they seem so bulky we can't fit another in.
Yes I am in Scotland, just by Hamilton - what about you? I am not a native but lived here for nearly 6 years now.

sweetkitty · 31/08/2009 22:05

Brightred - I am trying to work it out so you have a DD the same age as my DD2 (Jan 06) and a DS 19 months so this will be number 3 when my number 3 was born last year DD1 was bang on 4 and DD2 2 1/2, we had to get a CMAX last year but TBH it's not that great, a total squeeze in the back, most of the time I have DD1 in the front on her booster now and two in the back, 3 seats in the back is a squeeze, so mini bus 7 seater is necessary.

You are VERY close to me, I'm in Motherwell which hospital will you be going to?

memorylapse · 31/08/2009 22:21

we hsd a people carrier but got rid last year..because the elder 2 are older they never come anywhere with us!..so we have just bought a citroen berlingo, which has 3 full size seats in the back, sliding doors, ideal for tight spaces and getting car seats out..and a massive boot..I love it..but the kids do joke and say its like postman pats van

ForcesSweetheart · 01/09/2009 00:54

SK & brightred. we really must have a meet-up next time I'm home (my family is all in Baillieston).

Are any of you anywhere near Salisbury? We just moved here from Aldershot a couple of months ago so know no-one yet. Gonna join the local NCT nearer the time in the hope of meeting some other mums!

FarahS · 01/09/2009 09:00

Wow. Hadn't been here for some days cos I thought it was gonna stay quiet for some time still.. Was a nice surprise to see how the list has already grown and you've been chatting away. Can't remember what I meant to comment on what everybody's been saying.

Next time someone updates the list you can add that I'm 25 and this is my first one. Won't update it now so that the list won't be on every other message. :D

I've been feeling horrible. Can't believe I'm only 5+3. I thought proper throwing up phase wouldn't start this earle. Spent the weekend more or less in the toilet.. lovely. Haven't got any appetite what so ever and would just prefer sleeping all the time to avoid feeling sick. I'm really dreading this will last for 7 weeks or more. Anyone else feeling like this yet? Not great combination this throwing up and not eating with my problems with blood sugar. Can't wait to see the MW next week.

Will comment more on your stuff next time now that I can keep up with you lot a bit better.

Anyone living in Manchester/North West area? Or given birth here? I haven't managed to find much info about the hospitals here.

Have a lovely day ladies. hopefully you all have managed to avoid this horrible nausea!

Jan9ne · 01/09/2009 09:26

hi FarrahS,
sorry you're feeling so ill - it's ghastly isn't it. I feel ok. last time the nausea kicked in at about 7 weeks, peaked at 10 and faded by 14. Are you working? I was quite 'lucky' in that i tended to feel worse in the evenings and not too bad in the day at work. Hoping it won't be too bad this time as am still working plus have dd of 19 months.
My only symptom are big boobs and insomnia. It was the insomnia that got me thinking i may be preg. I normally sleep like a log but with dd had insomnia too expecially towards the end but that's to do with feeling uncomfortable more than anything else.
Anyone here from London? I live in the East.

memorylapse · 01/09/2009 09:54

Farah..sorry to hear that you are feeling rotten already..wouldnt it be lovely if we could just fast forward the first 3 months?

I live near Chester but just inside the welsh border..I work in the Manchester area quite a lot though.
not sure which hospital to go for as have not heard brilliant things about the Countess of Chester.

Ive found that the debilitating tiredness has started to kick in..like a hungover feeling..and I feel very vaguely nauseas this morning, went to put something in the bin and last nights spag bol was in there..bleuurrggh

any one been/going to the docs yet? I managed to get an appt for tomorrow because I phoned up and explained about my thyroid..the recptionist actually said to me when she booked the appt "do let us know if you dont need the appt anymore!"

sweetkitty · 01/09/2009 16:25

FarahS - poor you, sorry you are feeling so rough, no real remedies for the MS, just remember to eat little and often as an empty stomach will make you feel worse, even if you cannot stomach anything try to eat something, I have found Dairylea sandwiches and crunchy nut cornflakes were good as they could be made in 10 secs and weren't cooked so no smells, not exactly healthy though.

memorylapse - at the receptionist but I suppose she wasn't thinking it was just that with all the missed appts I think they are trying to cut down, I remember getting an appt through for a scan after I had had the mc too as you are probably aware the whole system is not very sensitive.

I'm not booking an appt until after I have had my 8 week scan, MWs do not see you until about 12-16 weeks here

Feeling rough today but think it is lack of sleep and a cold

FarahS · 01/09/2009 16:43

Jan9ne - I am working but luckily it's very independent and I can work from home if I don't feel like going to the office. I've just noticed that it's better to go and try to work since I feel sick all day and then at least I can try to concentrate on something else instead of just thinking about how sick I feel.

Memorylapse - sometimes you do wonder how people end up working at a surgery when they seem to only know how to say exactly the wrong words to people. I thought when I called that they would congratulate or something but nope.

Sweetkitty - thanks for the tips. It seems though that nothing really helps. I seem to hear everywhere that you can't see MW before weeks 8-12. I'm starting to wonder if they've made a mistake with me. When I called them and told about the BFP they were apologizing that I have to wait 3 weeks before seeing the MW. I don't really trust the receptionist cos once she gave me an emergency appointment to the nurse when it wasn't an emergency and the nurse was horrible to me cos she said I'd taken the emergency appointment without a reason. So I'm really nervous about going to see the MW. What if she'll be horrible to me as well and will ask why I'm there so early when it's only going to be week 6+3 when I go and see her next week.

memorylapse · 01/09/2009 16:43

sweetkitty..only reason I booked really was because of my hypothyrpoidism , my tsh tends to go ga ga as soon as Im pregnant!.also I have kidney probs.other than that..I wouldnt have bothered tbh..but I think my first booking in appt will have to be with a consultant rather than a midwife as it was last time

Did another CBD test today and this time it said 2-3 weeks as opposed to 1-2 last week..dh said he is going to die laughing if the gp asks me to do a test at the doctors, I dont think theyve done that for years though..when I had dd1..I had to wait until I was two weeks late before a test would show..then the test itself looked like something out of a science lab and took half an hour!..then you went to the doctors and they would insist on confirming it with a sample sent off..which took another couple of days!!!..it was agonising waiting for the result!

Kaystar · 01/09/2009 18:12

Sorry to hear that you're sick so soon, Farah. I've read that ginger helps and the article suggested nibbling on ginger biscuits. I've been putting powedered ginger into lemon tea in the mornings as have been feeling a little not quite right when I wake.

Nice reaction from the receptionist memorylapse I wasn't sure what to expect here (I live in Sweden), but it all seemed to go okay and I was given a time in October, in my 10th week. DH and I have also been invited to a group appointment next Tuesday to discuss food, exercise, alcohol and such things with other couples at the MW centre.

sweetkitty · 01/09/2009 22:23

I am having a heart attack now, I swear I look about 4 months gone, usually I have a flat tummy, wee bit wrinkly after 3 kids but flat but since last week I have looked so bloated and fat I feel like I have put on half a stone, it may be all the chocolate I am eating then tonight DP says "maybe it's twins" so so so not funny

kaystar - are you married to a Swede? doesn't Sweden have a fab healthcare system? What took you to Sweden? (SK is ashamed that the only knowledge she has of Sweden is Ikea )

memorylapse - no no tests at the doctors, I so remember my first appointment when I was pregnant with DD1, it was all new and I was all excited and they were so so, I said "don't you do your own test?" they said "oh no we take you word for it, the tests you buy are much better than our tests ), we will book you in for a 12 week scan and the MW will see you after that, we don't tend to see you until after 12 weeks as things can sometimes go wrong I was totally deflated.

Ginger did nothing for me either, I tend to lose my appetite completely and all food makes me ill thinking about eating it, I will only eat to stop my tummy rumbling, think last time I was only actually sick twice and it's always after brushing my teeth, when I am early pregnant brushing my teeth makes me gag and want to throw up. I also tend to lok horrendous all throughout pregnancy am still waiting on this pregnant glowing woman thing.

ForcesSweetheart · 02/09/2009 00:10

Farah - sorry you're feeling so icky. I don't think my sickness started til about 7 or 8 weeks last time, and I had the luxury of just slobbing out on the couch as I wasn't working. Won't have that this time.

memory - I got my first hospital appointment through the post today. I had a telephone consult with my GP as soon as I got my bfp as he needed to make an urgent referral to the diabetic ante-natal clinic. The letter says "clinic reference - dating scan clinic" so I'm really crossing my fingers they'll give me an early scan again. I had my first when I was about 5 and a half weeks with DD because of the higher risk of problems with diabetics, and will be 6wks exactly when I go to the hospital on Monday.

SK - at twins! Do you have any in your family?

Kaystar · 02/09/2009 06:40

Yep, am married to a Swede. We've been here for just over a year and a half and I love it. Was living in Denmark before (where we met) and it is a definite improvement here imho! I didn't know too much about Sweden either before I came here... But now I know that the world's largest Ikea is located just outside Stockholm

So far I'm liking the Swedish system - everything seems to be free and I get 15 months of maternity entitlement, but I think I can use some of it now and some up until the child is about five years old. Plus DH gets a minimum 3 months of paternity leave (mandatory!) and can take some of my 15 months. It seems really flexible.

I feel the same as you though sweetkitty, all bloated and I am sure I look like I've put on loads of weight. Will just blame overeating on our honeymoon in July if anyone comments!

Fingers crossed that they give you the scan ForcesSweetheart

FarahS · 02/09/2009 09:30

Kaystar - I like Sweden! I'm actually Finnish myself so have been to Sweden lots when I still lived in Finland. Finland has a similar system to Sweden and I'm a bit bitter that I won't be in the system when I have the baby. Every mum gets a package of baby clothes, small bath tub, nappies etc. AND every mum gets a pay during the maternity leave whether they have worked previous to the leave or not. Plus everyone gets a monthly child benefit money per child of about 100 pounds til the child is 18. Here I won't get any money from anywhere.

FS - You were supposed to just call you're GP to get the referral? I still don't really understand the UK system and I've got a similar situation to yours and will need a referral ASAP. I just thought that cos they gave me that MW appointment for next week I'll just talk about my problem there and maybe she'll talk to the GP or tell me whether I have to call the GP or how I'll get the referral.

I can't stand ginger either at the moment. I'm like what Sweetkitty said she was before.. I can't stand any food at the moment and only eat when I feel like I can't stand the hunger anymore. I'm just worried I'm harming the baby cos I can't stand vegetables or fruits at the moment. I guess I'll just have to talk about this to the MW next week as well.

memorylapse · 02/09/2009 09:50

Farah..wow thats a quick referal, your gp is very efficient

Im off to my appt now..bit worried as I had a slightly snotty looking discharge this morning..sorry if tmi..I can remember having something similiar in later preg but not this early

Jan9ne · 02/09/2009 10:00

Hello! I have enjoyed reading everyone's messages.
Kaystar, i am feeling very bloated too. Not really eating any differently to normal though.

Kaystar, my brother lives in Stockholm with a Swedish girlfriend. He's lived there for years. Lots of their friends have kids and i have to say the swedish maternity/paternity is excellent. I like Sweden - it has a very equal society.

i am a bit worried as i have no symptoms at the mo apart from bloating. I did another test just to be sure yesterday!

Farah i went off vegetables with my first pg and had a terribly sweet tooth. DD is absolutely fine - a very healthy toddler who has never been to the dr apart from for her jabs.

Someone reassure me about my lack of symptoms - so worried about m/c.....

Jan9ne · 02/09/2009 10:02

memorylapse - i had snotty discharge yesterday - i think (i hope) it's normal. Let me know what your gp says

sweetkitty · 02/09/2009 10:44

FarahS - oh don't worry about the not eating fruit and veg, I have been the same too, from now on the baby gets first dibs on everything so it will get plenty of what it needs to grow, remember to take a pregnancy multivit and everything should be fine, you would have to be at the point of starvation for the baby to suffer, they are the ultimate parasites, they rob our brains of essential fatty acids, they rob our bones of calcium, they rob our blood of all the good nutrients too, they little darling even send out hormones to make us sleepy so we don't expend energy that they need, hence we feel awful for the first 12 weeks as that's their most rapid growing period when all the hormones are flying about. I take a Sanatogen multivit and omega 3 and a calcium tablet as I have been pregnant and BFing for so many years I think I need the extra.

Remember ladies we are growing a whole new person from scratch, might not look like we are doing much when we are "resting" but our bodies are working very hard inside so we must look after ourselves and rest. Here endth sweetkittys lesson

I have no symptoms as well yet, I do know some lucky beggars women who feel no different whatsoever, but I know what you all mean worrying time for us all.

memorylapse · 02/09/2009 12:02

just back from the gps..lovely lady doctor, very kind..she has taken a urine sample, and a swab in case I have an infection, she said the discharge was probably nothing if Ive had no cramps or bleeding..when she took the swab, I was pleased to see no evidence of blood, or even a discharge. Ive got to have my thyroid and kidney function checked and I already have an appt with the midwife for next week..policy in Wales is early ante natal care..I will get an early scan at around 10 weeks it seems

sweetkitty · 02/09/2009 17:09

memorylapse - seems they are going to take care of you, I am at the opposite end of the scale, I think they see me every 6 weeks, don't want to know etc I suppose I shouldn't moan that I am low risk. We only get one scan here usually about 16 weeks, they will not tell you the sex, no nuchal fold scan nothing. Apparently it's because there is no money for sonographers although last time they were talking about bringing in 2 scans. We will probably pay for a private one at about 22 weeks and find out the sex, I'm far too impatient, I know it's another girl though but it means we can get organised with names and everything else.
