Welcome stinax and Jan9ne - great to see the list growing so long!

Just changed my position in the list as I think my previous due date was incorrect - it was a few days out on ovulation date before, so hopefully this is more accurate.

hello ladies re due dates, at your booking in appointment they confirm your date on theif magic wheel and it goes on LMP not on when you ov-ed and they don't care about you telling them your cycle either, they then double check it with the first scan and if it's only out by a few days they go byt the magic wheel date, you need an official date for maternity leave etc

Who asked about homebirths, I have had 2, both very good, am hoping for another one but we shall see. My last labour was 95 minutes from "DP my waters have just gone to baby out" an hour of hell thought, I have had

DD1 15 days early 6lbs 3ozs, 4h20m, loads of stitches for 2nd degree tear
DD2 12 days late 9lbs 3ozs, 2h30m, homebirth, not a stitch, bounced back v quickly, best labour
DD3 5 days late, 8lbs 5ozs, 1h35m, didn't even push she came out in 2 contractions, horrnedous afterpains, 2nd degree tear no stitches, lost a lot of blood and felt very worn down for a good couple of weeks

so this time I am hoping to pop the baby out during the Corrie adverts

Hi Sweetkittie,
Re home-birth - did you just tell your dr you wanted a homebirth or your mw? What was the reaction? Was it positive?

Do they give you stuff to soak up all the goo (sorry - can't think of a better way to explain what i mean!) in case you are in the full throes of labour b4 the mw arrives along with all the mess it entails? I was told they give you lots of plastic sheeting and those enormous absorbant pad things?

were your other kids in the house at the time and was that ok?

Thanks,
J

Welcome Jan9ne and Stinax, really glad you are joining the thread.

FS - I have a rough idea when I ovulated but I didn't put that into any calculator I just entered my LMP and on one site it gives me 3rd May and on this site gives me 1st May so I was going with 3rd May. No idea why it varies.

I am concerned today after a really stressful afternoon yesterday and evening and today I have lost my nausea, I know what will be will be, I think I will try and get a Doc appointment this week.

lizzie9442 · 30/08/2009 16:51

When you go to the booking in appointment they give you a due date by your LMP and its exactly 40 weeks from the day of your last period so you could work it out like that xx

sweetkitty · 30/08/2009 16:55

jan2ne - I told my MW at my booking in appt, they were fine about it said I was a good candidate etc, here you are only covered between 39-42 weeks so if you go into labour before 39 weeks you cnot have a HB it's all about cost, they have to pay for the MWs to be on call, just before you reach 39 weeks they send round a HB kit, with the lovely canisters of gas and air, oxygen in case the baby needs it and all the HB kit. They provide some inco pads but not enough, after research with MN I bought some cheap plastic shower curtains and a cheap fitted sheet to go over the bed and keep the sheets in place, also some cheap towels, soft kitchen towel and lots of Boots maternity pads. I never fancied a water birth so laboured on my bed. Afterwards, MWs just pulled the lot off and remade my bed for me, no mess at all. Yes other two were in the house but slept through it all, you have to have another adult there just for the other DC in case they are awake and get distressed or you have to transfer to hospital also better to have a bag packed.

I loved both my HBs but I know I am lucky as I am low risk and having one baby already meant that I was good for a HB.

Jan9ne · 30/08/2009 16:56

Brightredballoon,
i wouldn't worry too much about the nausea - it comes and goes doesn't it. With my first i had days where i didn't feel sick at all and others where i felt awful. I haven't felt sick at all yet. i didn't feel sick til about 7 weeks last time
The first 12 weeks are such a worry aren't they.

Jan9ne · 30/08/2009 16:59

Thanks for the info sweetkitty. Hopefully they'll let me as my first labour was quick, uncomplicated with no tearing. I love the idea of being able to get into my own bed with the new bubba straight away with dh and dd next to us!

sweetkitty · 30/08/2009 17:05

Jan9ne - that is the best bit, using your own toilet, having a bath in your own bath then getting into your own bed with all the family plus last time I had SIL and a friend here too and spent the mornign after she was born in bed with magazines, breakfast and tea, great service

Jan9ne · 30/08/2009 17:15

Sounds lovely Sweetkitty! I also like the idea of not having to walk to the labour ward and stopping every minute with massive contractions (i insisted we park in the street rather than pay extortionate parking fees!!!), not having to hear other women in labour AND not thinking i was going to pass out from the intense heat of the ward! We are a 5 min drive from our hospital so i could get there really easily if there was an emergency.
Did your partner need to know how to deliver a baby just in case?
I live in london so there's a possiblity of the mw getting caught in traffic!

sweetkitty · 30/08/2009 17:34

One of the oncall community MWs lives about 5 mins away, one of the lovely things is she knew me, knew the family and all about my previous labours and my requests, when I phoned the number to tell tham I was in labour she phoned me back and said "Sk do you need me now" I said "yes" and as she knew I was fast she and the other MW came straight away, that's another thing you have 2 MWs with you at all times just for you not running between 4 labouring women

littleowls · 30/08/2009 17:50

Hello all and congrats! Can I join the list too? i'm 31 and my edd is 5th may and this will be no1. I'm feeling a little bewildered but also extremely happy as this was our first 'go' at TTC after getting married on 19th July. Honeymoon baby!! Glad I've found this site to answer lots of questions and offer support x

lizzie9442 · 30/08/2009 18:11

Littleowls - congratulations!! A honeymoon baby wow, what a lovely tale to tell LO when they are older.

Jan9ne thanks for sympathetic words. I think its because I had a stressful couple of days I haven't been as focussed on feeling pregnant like I have been, in a way its been a good distraction as it seems such a long time until first scan/12wks.

I will post on exercise forum (if there is one?) but does anyone cycle and do you know if safe to do so still?

No homebirth for me as I have had two complicated births but reading yours SK sound fantastic.

memorylapse · 30/08/2009 22:12

I would love a homebirth.

Im frantically symptom checking at the moment..

Jan9ne · 30/08/2009 22:38

just watched 'Outnumbered'. Love it!!

Jan9ne · 30/08/2009 22:40

memorylapse - what symptoms are you looking for? i have none at the mo and am starting to feel a bit worried. I feel totally fine....
Mind you some people have no symptoms do they?

sweetkitty · 30/08/2009 23:02

littleowls - welcome and congrats, but a word of warning I joined MN way back in 2004 when I was pregnant with no 1, I am still here and very much addicted it so sucks you in there is no escape, but seriously over the years I do not know what I would have done without it, fantastic support, laughs and friendship will keep you sne on this rollercoaster that is pregnancy and beyond.

brightred - I don't know personally about the exercise I cannot do anything when pregnant but one woman on my last antenatal thread cycled right up to the end practically

memorylapse - not a symptom here yet either!

memorylapse · 31/08/2009 10:44

Jan9ne..I usually have very very tender boobs within a day or so of missed period and also the sickness tends to kick in very quickly..and by 5 weeks..Im usually very sick..saying that..in theory going by my longest cycle..the last day I could have had my af was yesterday so maybe just a bit early for symptoms..I know it sounds daft by in a way..the more unpleasent symptoms kind of reassure me that hopefully bean is sticking.

memorylapse · 31/08/2009 10:46

Little owls..congratualtions on your honeymoon baby..how lovely

ForcesSweetheart · 31/08/2009 11:33

Congrats littleowl, and welcome!

I'm so jealous of those of you planning homebirths, I'd give my right arm for one - but with the diabetes, cholestasis, group B strep, previous cs etc etc etc there's no hope in hell of them ever allowing that. I wouldn't even get to have a mobile hospital birth as I'd be strapped to so many drips and monitors and chances are end up with an emergency cs again- hence going for a planned cs this time.

Only symptom I've had so far is the sore pelvis after doing a lot of walking. No nausea yet thankfully. I don't know how I'll cope if I get that again this time. With DD I wasn't working so could lie on the couch watching daytime telly and feeling sorry for myself when the nausea started. Now I'm working full-time in a stressful job I won't have that luxury!
