Thought I would start a new thread for may. Just got bfp and I am really excited. I think I'm due 30th April/1st May but there are so many people on April already. Heres hoping for a healthy pregnancy. I will just wait for lots more of you to join me. xxxx

OP posts:

sweetkitty · 13/09/2009 19:36

meanbeansmum- Quorn pate is fine, the thing about pate is it's made with liver which has high vitamin A which is bad for developing babes, as long it is in date it's fine

memorylapse - you are right as long as you and your DH want this baby then sod everyone else, kind of hard to take when you are feeling rough and everyday willing the LO to hang on in there to have silly people make comments like that.

I don't know what it is but once your pregnant random people feel the need to comment on your sex life and whether you have a TV or not. Oh I am so dreading all the comments, like meanbeansmum I might not tell my family until Christmas or something.

MinnieMummy · 13/09/2009 19:54

Memorylapse, so sorry you had such a rubbish reaction from your mum, it's outrageous what some people say. We saw my parents today and we didn't say anything, my mum won't be unhappy but she won't understand, she'll be of the 'but you have one of each' persuasion. My dad however willbe thrilled I know so that makes up for it. They go back to Florida in two weeks but they are away for almost a week grrr so I'm not quite sure when we will tell them, would like it to be in person not on the phone.

Felt mostly totally fine today but then suddenly really nauseous early evening, really thought I was going to chuck but fortunately not.

I'm near Oxford!

frazzledoldbag · 13/09/2009 20:15

Hi, sorry to barge in. I'm not pregnant but have 3 children including a gorgeous baby boy born on 20th May this year (due on 16th). Just stumbled on this thread and wanted to wish you all well - hope you all have very happy and healthy pregnancies. May is a fab time to have a baby. I was on the May 09 thread and it was a great support source of support and friendship. Anyway best of luck. Babies are fab! x

Hobnobfanatic · 13/09/2009 21:31

Hi all

Just popping in to say hello! This is a mine of useful info - never heard of preggiepops before! Soooo expensive, though!

I'm almost six weeks now and feel so yucky. With my first pg, this lasted until I gave birth - hope it doesn't go on for so long this time. Anyone found anything else that gets rid of the 'car sickness' feeling? Any tips gratefully received.

Have only told DP - no one else yet. Am hoping to wait until the scan before announcing, but not sure I can hide it that long!

MinnieMummy · 13/09/2009 21:51

Welcome Hobnob, and thanks Frazzled, what a lovely thing to say, am now sitting here feeling a bit weepy!! Must be the hormones kicking in!!

brightredballoon · 13/09/2009 21:56

Hi everyone

welcome to everyone who has recently joined this thread.

Sorry to hear your news SAM
Ja9ne I really hope you aren't leaving as well, fingers crossed for you.

Suey I remember your birth story with your DD, don't blame you for opting for an elective this time. I initially was 100% for an elective as well but recently have been wondering if I should try labour this time.
So sorry to hear about your Dad, is he in a Hospice near to your Mum? I see their neighbours are renovating the house somewhat - hope its not causing any disruption for your parents if your Dad is at home.

Sorry to hear the stories about people's rotten/insensitive/loony families, unfortunately DH's family fall into the bizarre category and mine are all down south so we also don't have local support except some truely wonderful friends.

I'll be 7weeks tomorrow - woohoo!

Aspire2Iron · 13/09/2009 22:39

Hi gang! Signing in again after a week-ish away and have just breezed through the 14 pages since my last post! Wow, we are coming along well! This really is a treasure trove of info and support. What a lovely group we've got going here.

Many blessings to those who have left the group.

Aspire2Iron · 13/09/2009 22:47

Re: responses from loony family members.... when I told my mom I was pregnant with DD, she said, "Congratulations, honey. Say, I did my time, so, just so you know, I won't be doing any babysitting." Thud. Let's see what precious moment she can come up with this time around!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 13/09/2009 23:08

Folks it sounds like there are a lot of toxic parents out there (well, and a few who are just a bit tactless!) try not to let it get you down, a baby is a wonderful thing, they literally breathe new life into families, and make (normal!) people happy.

Frazzled, thanks for the message. You'll have us all snivelling at this rate! I cried at an advert the other day, my hormones are sending me daft!

HarryJoesMummy · 13/09/2009 23:46

Hi all

Thanks for the info on the food - it is all starting to come back to me. I have spent all day thinking about how different it will be this time round from when I had DS1 - no more sleeping when the baby sleeps and getting away with slobbing in PJs all day!! I have also started thinking about what new maternity clothes I "need" - someone slap me, I am not even 5 weeks yet!

Kaylo and Spireal - we are all quite close, I am live just outside York and work in Leeds. I am considering the maternity hospital at Malton though, as had such a bad experience with the midwives in York DH, although I will probably end up in York as Malton is a loooong way to travel when in pain!

I am at all the negative reactions to pregnancy news - I cannot imagine being anything other than excited when someone announces they are pregnant. I hope you can all see that bringing another life into the world is an amazing thing to do and we should all be proud of ourselves for giving up our bodies for 9 months+ and then taking on responsibility for looking after another human being (or 4/5 other human beings in some cases!)

I have no symptoms apart from tiredness and sore boobs - I had to ask DH not to touch them last night because they were so tender . I didn't have any sickness until week 11 last time, and then threw up constantly until week 14. The only thing I found helped were some tablets I got from Boots that were called Dextra or Dextrase or something similar - they came in three or four flavours and were basically glucose tablets so they helped keep sugar levels up. I found that if ate three or four of them, I could keep down a bowl of weetabix or some porridge. Hope that helps - I am off to stock up tomorrow!

Work tomorrow [sigh]. I don't think I will be able to concentrate. I am already planning when I am going to start my maternity leave....!!

Night all x

suey2 · 14/09/2009 07:17

brightredballoon have you namechanged? Were you on my an thread? Name starting with L? Yes, the renovations have caused my ma a lot of stress at not a good time. Dad is in a nursing home now as it takes 3 people to move him and he is doubly incontinent. He has now told evryone it is time to go and keeps getting infections. One of them will kill him; for him it will be best, so I hope it happens asap. Poor bastard. He can't even speak most if the time.

I am so shocked to hear about dp and dpil reactions. Don't they know it is never a good time to have a child? For me at 39 years old we are financially good, but if you read the papers and some consultant obstetricians I am extremely selfish since my age means I am more likely to be a burden on the nhs, and my baby is much more likely to be disabled. Fuck em I say, I couldn't care less. I have a nasty, mad mil, but it doesn't affect me since she seems to despise my dh too. She will not be the first to know.

Kaylo · 14/09/2009 08:09

Morning Girls - Happy Monday

Frazzled Thank You for the nice things you said - you really will have us blubbing!

Hobnob I too was hoping to keep pregnancy a secret until after 12wk scan - but I was ill at work last week and my colleagues guessed, I would have denied it but I'm well crap at lying! Got to tell the managers today tho - NOT looking forward to that, at all!

RedBalloon - Hope you're well chick

Aspire Did you go anywhere nice? lol at your mum, my mum also said something similar to that - she is now my childminder!

JATGB You're totally right - children are a blessing.

HarryJoesMummy How close are us 3? Literally train rides away thats all. Is it Malton that only open their maternity ward 6 days a week due to staffing?

Suey Who cares what the cons obs say? Like you said, it's never a good time to have a baby, bugger em! We do what we like - and they get paid enough to care for all mums2be.

I've also been looking at maternity clothes, and baby clothes. Luckily I have some of both already, and we got given a huge box full of white baby stuff - although DH is all for going out and buying pink stuff. He is absolutely convinced it's a girl, and I agree with him fwiw.

All this and I'm only 4+4, I think

Got to go do the school run now

xxxxxx

Morning all...
Anyone else having freaky dreams at the moment? I thought this wasn't supposed to happen until later in pg (as it did for me with DD) but the last two nights I have had some very strange dreams and have woken up feeling exhausted. Fortunately DD gave me a lie-in until 7.30 this am

And quite right JATGB - children are such a blessing so [blows raspberry] to anyone who makes toxic comments....

Spirael · 14/09/2009 09:25

I'm not on the latest list, I'll add myself if that's ok? Found out earlier that my husband can't read charts, so my date is actually a touch later than I originally stated!

Spirael · 14/09/2009 09:33

Wow, we are all quite close together, Kaylo and HarryJoesMummy. We might have to arrange to meet up at some point! As a first timer, I'll be relying on your knowledge and wisdom!

I haven't been to the Wakefield Birth Centre myself, I was just researching it (and various other places) online. Nothing like being over prepared, after all.

On a mostly unrelated note... I called my doctors surgery this morning to get my first midwife appointment, and the earliest date they could offer me is the 29th September. That's over two weeks away!

Is it normal to have to wait so long for the first appointment? I thought this was just a booking in appointment anyway, that I'd have to make another appointment after that to actually extract any useful information?

It's a bit worrying really, as I'll be half way through the first trimester at that point. If I didn't have you ladies and my big pregnancy bible, I wouldn't have a clue what to eat or not and could have been doing all sorts of damage before I got any 'formal' advise!

Kaylo · 14/09/2009 09:55

Ooooh, bessie we're due date twins

spirael a meet-up sounds like a great idea!!

Dear lord there are 40 people on that list!!! We're a BIG happy group

xxx

Kaylo · 14/09/2009 10:05

Just called the gp reception for a booking-in appnt with my mw, "nothing available at the moment, can you call back in 4weeks? Or should I ask Mandy (my lovely mw) to call you?"

I told her to get Mandy to call me!!!

Call back in 4 weeks indeed!

I'll prob be 6 weeks to delivery by the time they fit me in!

xxx

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 14/09/2009 10:24

Spirael, I wouldn't expect too much of your booking in appointment, I went there with loads of questions last time and not many of them were answered, plus she wouldn't discuss the birth at all (mind you they wouldn't for the rest of the pregnancy come to think of it, maybe it was just my weirdy hospital!)

Honestly if you have any questions before your appointment we'll do our best to answer them, I have a copy of What To Expect When You're Expecting on my shelf! Or there are a good few midwives on MN too, you could always start a thread directly asking them something.

Yes I've been having weird dreams too but it's not that unusual for me. Oh god last time, I dreamt I was pregnant with a litter of kittens and all sorts!

samandsophsmam · 14/09/2009 10:35

Hi All,
Lots and lots of news to keep up with! And lots of people on this thread..... am having trouble but think I will get there in the end.
Does anyone feel like they are going to get their AF like all the time? I feel may be it is in my head. Why am I more worried about this pregnancy when the other two were fine? Just can not make myself out!

I just dropped my DD1 (2.11 years) she was ok last week for her first two sessions today she was a screaming wreck. She tried chasing after me. I wanted to cry. Not sure I can take the stress. Is this normal or pregnancy hormones!?

LuckyC · 14/09/2009 11:08

Hi to all new people on the May 2010 train. I am afraid I haven't read all the posts, so am a bit behind, but hope all's well with everyone.

Advice please! The nausea has kicked in in a big way. Bleeeuuuurrghh. Throwing up. Feel exactly like I was out drinking tequila slammers until 4am.

What do the May 2010 experts recommend?

Thanks all!

carikube8 · 14/09/2009 12:08

I've just been to buy lots of cans of ginger beer as that was all I fancied drinking and at least ginger is good for calming stomachs...

Divvy · 14/09/2009 12:22

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 14/09/2009 12:58

I just passed my driving theory test this morning, yay! It's taken me ages to get around to learning so quite pleased.

Booking-in appointments - I don't think I had one until about 8/9 weeks, and then no scan till about 15 weeks first time around, it was very annoying.

Going to see my GP this afternoon to let him know so hopefully will get an appointment quickly!

LuckyC · 14/09/2009 13:02

TwentiethCenturyHeffa well done! need to do mine soon
