HarryJoesMummy, we've told everyone, I'm rubbish with secrets!

As for what you can can't eat I think it's just blue/soft cheeses, unpasteurised things, raw/rare cooked foods and especially eggs. You can only eat two portions of tuna and other oily fish a week, and no marlin/shark etc as they have mercury in. Think you have to be a bit careful with shellfish too. I think that's it.

Really tired here too, it's hit me like a wall. Which is obviously why I'm still up at 12.40am... Night all x

suey2 · 13/09/2009 05:52

Jatgb no booze! Back on driving duties for, oo, about 18 months if I bf fir as long as last time!

Telling people is a tough one. I told everyone early last time, but this time I am much more reluctant, for some reason. My dad is dying, for one, so I don't want my mum to feel like she has to be excited for me. Otoh, it could give her something to look forward to. I guess it will come out when I go and see them in a couple of weeks, when it's obvious I'm off the sauce.

Work too: I run my own business and I want people to understand if I am being a bitch or not pulling my weight. Again I'd like to wait and know all is ok.

However, I am crap at keeping a secret!

My only real symptom is very sore boobs. I keep imagining nausea, but I think it's psychosomatic tbh: I didn't feel sick till week 8 last time.

Ja9ne everything crossed for you.

carikube8 · 13/09/2009 08:07

Suey2 - one of the reasons DH is so happy about me being pg is knowing that he has a chauffeur for the next 9 months (plus however long I bf for)...typical man!!

MummytoEli · 13/09/2009 08:07

Im desperate to get to the Dr on Wednesday so they can confirm everything is as it should be, Ive had a little abdominal pain today but believe its just wind and bloating, also a little concerned im not sick yet.... which may sound weird but with DS I was sick from the word go, everyday all day for 4mths.

but I guess im just being paranoid?
xx

MummytoEli · 13/09/2009 08:09

Jan9ne sending love, hugs and light ur way xx

Spirael · 13/09/2009 08:13

Hi all, any chance I can join up here? Got my BFP over the weekend and looks like I'll be due next May as well. Stats are:

Spirael - 27, EDD 22nd May, #1

Though the EDD seems to change everywhere I look, that seems to be the middle value. It's also the one my big book of knowledge suggests, so I'll stick with that for now!

sweetkitty · 13/09/2009 08:32

Morning all lovely sunny day here

The food not to eat in pregnancy is a funny one, depending on which website you go to and which country you are in it differs no wonder it is confusing. I did think eggs were fine now as most British flocks are vaccinated against Salmonella although they do say be careful with raw eggs. TBH I am vegetarian so that cancels out a lot of things and I still eat soft cheese as I know from experience you are more likely to get Listeria off a lettuce or a bit of melon than cheeses as the safety for cheese is very good.

Still being hit by waves of nausea but at least it's not being actually sick.

spirael - hello, welcome and congrats

suey2 · 13/09/2009 08:42

Mummytoeli I didn't feel sick until 8 weeks last time, in fact had no symptoms bar sore boobs. In fact, I never threw up.
I can't wait to get back and do a cbd test (agree kaylo). There's nothing like the black and White pregnant to confirm it is real. I've spent a long time in the past staring at tests and seeing a couple of dots, thinking it could be a line, only to be disappointed.
Will book to see the gp when I get back, then start booking my private dr. I had such a hideous experience last time I want an elective cs and a private room. Lucky fir me, dh can afford to pay.

suey2 · 13/09/2009 08:52

Hi spirael! Congrats and welcome.

Sk I did a lot of research the first time round, so am ignoring some of the advice. Eggs I will avoid, just because I can see the risk. I will eat cured meat, medium rare steak (if I know the supplier), unpasteurised hard cheese, buffalo mozzarella, the odd bit of liver etc.

Re oily fish, iirc it is tuna, swordfish, marlin and shark you have to avoid. I ate loads of mackerel last time. I will also eat goats cheese if cooked. ( mmm red onion and goats cheese tart)

Crab if freshly cooked but no molluscs or prawns. ( I went to Maine on hol last time and checked the FDA website first)

Kaylo · 13/09/2009 09:26

Good God I'd forgotton about all those foods you can't eat - luckily I'm not a seafood eater anyway so I don't have to worry about that - I do eat plenty of eggs when pregnant tho, scrambles eggs on toast was my craving ( amongst other weird combinations), sometimes just the toast on its own some days.

Welcome Spirael - Wishing you (and all of us) a happy healthy pregnancy xxx

sweetkitty · 13/09/2009 09:29

Suey - I am well was a food microbiologist so know a little bit about food safety, I don't like runny egss anyway so fine with that, unpasteurised hard cheese (parmesan, pecorino, cheddar) is absolutely fine as the process of maturation kills any Listeria or other nasties, it's one like Stilton and Brie that have only short maturations that are the problem but the cheese industry knows they are high risk and does everything it can to minimise it, Listeria is found in the soil so anything that is come into contact with soil could be infected.

I don't eat crab, molluscs and prawns anyway but I think at least in this country they are seen as fine, most prawns are fully cooked. Oily fish doesn't apply to me either. Then there is the whole do I or don't I eat nuts thing, I always have personally as there are no allergies in either of our families.

Whereabouts are you Suey? Anywhere nice so we can get all ?

suey2 · 13/09/2009 09:59

wow sk, you definitely should be the 'go to' on food! I was more responding to the original enquiry on food: I eat everything. Good to hear about the unpasteurised hard cheese: all I read last time was that all unpasteurised cheeses were out! And I love Parmesan and use it loads. Do you know if tallegio is ok?

I am in San gimignano. Feeling a bit low on power this morning, so dh has gone into town. Looking forward to being home now, so I can get organised and get a pg test I trust!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 13/09/2009 10:19

Suey, you can eat tuna, you just have to limit it to two cans or two fresh steaks a week. Good if you're a tuna-holic like me! I ate three kinds of fish yesterday.

You said you were going private, getting an elective cs - good on you for knowing exactly what you want. The plan here is to go in for an epidural as soon as it's established I'm in labour. Did it drug free last time, I felt no rush of empowerment like many women do, it just hurt! So I'm embracing my wussiness and saying "Bring on the drugs!"

Kaylo · 13/09/2009 10:35

epidural
They terrify me! I don't even know why - I'm not afraid of needles cos they stick plenty in your arm in pregnancy anyway. I think it's the thought of me not being in control that freaks me out.

I'm hoping for a water birth at Wakefield Birth Centre this time around. Had 2 hospital births and although they weren't bad, I rarely saw my MW during labour so am hoping at a birth centre it'll be more personalised care.

Quick question about this actually - do I need to see my MW at gp surgery or at the birth centre?

xxx

Plus where is everyone? I'm in Pontefract, West Yorkshire

xxxx

Kaylo · 13/09/2009 10:38

ugh!

taste like I'm chomping on ballbearings today

Meanbeansmum · 13/09/2009 10:57

Jan9ne, so sorry, I really hope they are wrong and that all is ok. (hugs ) thinking of you.xxx

Morning lovely ppl!

I'm only getting mild nausea in the mornings, nothing that cold marmite on toast can't fix.

Oh and I have officially stopped peeing on sticks! Doing a clearblue in clear urine mid afternoon to only get a pregnant 1-2 weeks freaked me out! And I know it's just about urine/hormone concentration but it's not a healthy obsession! I hate those damn clearblue tests. I prefer to look at a normal line lol!

Finalfurlong, I'm still feeding DD about 3 mini feeds in 24 hours. I think we are aiming to wean at 12 weeks after the' baby is in there' scan. We mayt wean sooner or later, the problem I have is that she loves her night boobie and I don't know how to replcae it or settle her when she gets upset. .

Talking about green cheese....I miss it already, I will crave it for months now lol, just because I can't have it lol! It feels strange missing out on my friday night vodka too (I miss that treat).

I'm 5+1 now, this last week has taken sooooooooooooo long! How am I going to wait until 12-13 weeks for a scan????????????

Love to all, sorry for waffling.xxx

AnAngelWithin · 13/09/2009 11:10

heck this is a busy thread already!!!!

anyway! morning all!!

Welcome Spireal.

Jan9ne, fingers crossed for you. x x x

I have managed to push a piece of toast and a banana down this morning. I don't (or haven't in the past anyway!!) suffer actual sickness, but I do get low blood pressure and faint a lot and get dizzy, which I really don't like!!

I am on betablockers for migraines, so I have come off them. It says not to come straight off them on the box, but the do said it would be ok as i'm on 80mg dose?

I can't remember what to to about my booking in process. I might just book in to see the doctor anyway to confirm about the beta blockers and then she can start the ball rolling?

sweetkitty, parmesan is ok to eat then is it?? I have started making my own pesto recently and use parmesan in it, I was thinking maybe I had to find an alternative??

MummytoEli · 13/09/2009 11:11

I love listening to everyones different experiences!! meansbeansmum I know what you mean about craving things u cant have... mine is soft serve icecream mmmmm i want it so bad Im from Australia m i the only one?? xx

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 13/09/2009 11:24

Kaylo I wouldn't mind going down the waterbirth route but because I'm "high risk" (ie fat, nothing else wrong with me) they don't generally offer any of the usual choices. I will ask though, you never know!

memorylapse · 13/09/2009 11:25

Ive only just got up..which is so unlike me..but I feel exhausted..and already am dry retching..DH bought me some twinnings ginger and lemon tea yesterday, had some then panicked because its got other herbs in, so wont drink anymore..Im about to phone in sick to where im working today as Im just too poorly..dont think Ive got the energy to get dressed let alone go out the front door.

Its a beautiful day here..looks like we are having an indian summer

AnAngelWithin · 13/09/2009 11:30

aww memorylapse, hope you pick up soon. The fatigue is the worst thing, especially with other kids to run round after!!

pigleychez · 13/09/2009 11:32

Goodness me! I cant beleive how quickly this thread is goes. You chatty bunch

swallowsandamazons - So sorry.

Welcome to MummytoEli, Anangelwithin, Spirael

I think there must be something about the just past a year phase!- Lots of us on here with 13/14mth olds.

Jan9ne- I agree what memory said that scans this early arent always perfect. Fingers crossed everythings ok for you.

I am in West Sussex.

Been trying to pack as we are off on Holiday tomorow. Just up the Great Yarmouth for a week, No exotic holidays for us any more
Say trying as what I put in DD takes back out!

Went to a family party yesterday which was nice. One of my Aunties guessed! I was thinking of telling her as we only see her occassionally as she lives abroad and is currently suffering with Cancer so we are never sure when/if we will see her again
Any she asked me.. I was soo shocked.. Its not that obvious already is it! She said she just had a feeling and saw me holding my cousins 4mth old and DH give me a little smile. She was so happy for us and said I was Made to be a Mummy and a natural which nearly made blub!

MummytoEli- I never knew about the soft icecream untill a preg friend mentioned it recently. I ate with dd
Thankfully I dont like much of the forbidden stuff so it doesnt bother me too much.

Kaylo- I too would like a waterbirth. I wanted one with DD but things werent to be Not sure if I would be allowed one this time with the comlications I had with DD. Note to self... another question to ask at booking in appointment!- Gonna be there hours!

DD woke at 5.30 this morning but DH being the star he is got up with her and took her downstairs to play and went back to sleep till 8

AnAngelWithin · 13/09/2009 11:46

I have never really fancied a waterbirth, but I did have my last 2 at home. Not sure if I will be allowed this time seeing as its #5!

chalkeyb · 13/09/2009 11:58

Wow - I go away for a weekend and come back to 3 new pages to read!

So sorry swallows

Jan9ne - thinking of you and fingers crossed.

Welcome to all the new mums to be - as a first timer this thread is wonderful for learning more and having questions answered.

I have now got my scan date through but its not for another 5 weeks; also still no word from a midwife yet. I don't know if I'm just being impatient but I want things to be arranged - it makes things seem a little more real!

memorylapse · 13/09/2009 12:25

well ive broken the news to my mother because of the sickness..and she has ranted at me down the phone saying how could I be so irresponsible..she said she is sorry but she is not happy for me at all..and she thinks its the most ridiculous thing we could have done because we dont own our own home ..we live in a private rented house, its a beautiful old farmhouse with an acre of land..does it really mattter if its not ours??!

really upset by her reaction tbh
