Hi all, just popping in to say DS was born on the 20th at 1808 after eating some pineapple the night before.

Went in at 130am and was told my blood pressure was too high so they wanted to admit me to keep on eye on me. Had a show around 12pm on Thursday and was nearly send home as the midwife said i was 'Coping well with the pain'. Did a quick internal and found i was 4cm Dilated so they moved me down to the birthing suite. Thought it was about time to don the TENS machine and after a couple of hours added Gas and Air into the mix.

Kept being told my midwife that it would be hours before anything happened and then at about 4ish my waters broke and there was Merconium in it so they had to move me again to Labour ward, where after they took my gas and air away and i nearly electrocuted myself with the Tens machine for having it so high, Christopher Grahame was born a healthy 6lb 110z.

Haven't slept since, but it is all worth it. Good luck to those of you still waiting.

Hello, the family have left and it is just DH, Isla and I - very peaceful. I have not responded to an e-mail or a text since she was born. In a little bubble. Well, birth story (sorry, a bit epic):

My waters broke on the Wednesday 12th at 5.30pm while I was cleaning out the cupboard (the day before I was 39 weeks) freaked out as thought I was peeing myself for a good while! Headed into the hospital to get checked then home to wait. Two hours later contractions were 2 minutess apart and very full on - I thought there was supposed to be a build up?? We headed into the birth centre which was amazing. By now I was vomiting with each contraction, I got in the pool and the midwife said we would have the baby in an hour - nup. Shift change, next midwife said you will have your baby by 9am - nup.

At 3pm we were getting too close to the 24 hour limit after waters broke so they transferred me to hospital for a drip to speed things up. After 17 hours on gas and air in the pool and being very active, we arrived at the hospital for me to be attached to two monitors and not allowed out of bed - I went for the epidural as could not bear it. By 10pm on 13th was fully dilated and they let me push for 1 hour before we headed to theatre. Ventouse failed so they pulled her out with forceps, very grateful to have narrowly avoided c section. All in all a good experience despite ending up in hospital (DH would not agree as he could see more than I could!). Threw a hissy fit and we managed to leave the same day.

Isla is BEAUTIFUL (my biased opinion). We have been struggling a bit with breastfeeding but things are start to look up the last couple of days - she sleeps a lot which surprised me.

Congratulations on all the births I have missed, will read through the thread now. Good luck to all still waiting - off to the postnatal thread for me!

Confuzzeled · 23/08/2009 21:00

Congrats Quix

Thanks cairns and chrys, I'm just being nervous and super emotional.

I spent my entire afternoon in triage today as my eyes had gone all blurry again.

So in the end it turns out my eye blurs probably don't have anything to do with pregnancy. Bad news is baby's not engaged anymore, he's popped out which can happen when you have too much fluid. It does mean no more sweeps until he goes back in. Looks like I'm going to be pregnant for ever

duchesse · 24/08/2009 10:03

Still nothing to report. Was not expecting to be still here 30 hours later! Am going in for fetal monitoring and a position scan this afternoon.

Chrysanthamum · 24/08/2009 12:57

How frustrating for you Duchesse. With both my other pregnancies my waters broke and I was induced 24 hrs later so I was expecting that to happen this time too. I've got to the stage where I don't even care if it happens while I'm out and about. My hind waters might have gone already but nothing since.
I had a curry last night 3 rspleaf teas today a big long walk and i've just eaten a whole pineapple in one sitting! I mean how committed is that?
Well you hang in there and best of luck.

duchesse · 24/08/2009 13:03

Chrys- how did they induce you? Was a pessary enough to kick start things? Or did they stick you straight on a drip? I just don't understand why I haven't gone into labour yet. It's now been over 30 hours since the waters went.

This baby is just too damned comfortable.

duchesse · 24/08/2009 13:04

And have done all those things you mention, except that it was half a pineapple last night and half just now.

Chrysanthamum · 24/08/2009 13:33

They put me on a drip both times. First time it took a while to kick in, second time it was faster. I thought that was standard procedure within 24 hrs of your waters going. However I think its probably better to go into labour naturally and i hope you do soon. They've booked me in for an induction this weekend but it will be pessaries unless my waters go too.

I'm getting lots of b/hicks again but I'm so tired of false hope that i dont get too excited anymore. Last Thursday my midwife said she bet the baby would be here in 2 days! Fat chance. Although I think she means well and just wants to be encouraging.
Anyway try and rest up a bit. I'm off to brew another r/l tea and rest my big ankles before the school run! I'm finding this all so unglam!

May67 · 24/08/2009 16:05

Haven't managed to get on here sooner but just a quick update - Isla Rose was born on the 13th of August weighing 6 lb 6 oz after a 2 and a half hour labour ending in a wonderful water birth! No stitches this time and established breastfeeding from day one! Can't believe how lucky we are, she is an angel. Lovely to read everyone else's stories and good luck to those still waiting.

merryberry · 24/08/2009 16:36

Leo James BabyYanknCock born at 1116 today weighing 8lb 6oz. He disengaged during labour and was born by cs. Both are doing fine, baby feeding well and he has a full head of hair. Just spoke to Yank and she is so happy to not be pg anymore, and thrilled with the little one.

Congratulations

Also from me, congratulations May on Isla's arrival!

BabyBump2B · 24/08/2009 18:42

Congrats all round to Longtalljosie, kitkatqueen, josiejo79, Yank and May!

craftynclothy · 24/08/2009 18:56

Congratulations to all the new mummies

ScummyMummy · 24/08/2009 20:07

Welcome to Isla and Leo! Well done, May and Yank.

Confuzzeled · 24/08/2009 20:45

So who's left?

I'm getting some strong feelings that could be the beginning and I'm off to eat my curry.

duchesse · 24/08/2009 21:58

You could end up giving birth before me Confuzzeled if you're getting twinges now...

Confuzzeled · 24/08/2009 22:17

Aaaaah Duch your back. I thought you'd have popped your sprog by now, hurry up woman

I now have a very sore back and getting big tinges in my lady bits. I was holding a friends newborn for ages today and I think mine got jealous.

I'm off to bed, if this is it then I need some sleep. DD has already had night terrors tonight and I'm worried she's either picking things up from me or we're just going to be unlucky that she has a bad night the same night I'm in labour.

I hope you start soon and baby just pops out. I read the other thread and the doctor sounds like a total cock, if baby's fine, was he just trying to get you to stay in hospital?

Good night

kitkatqueen · 24/08/2009 23:57

Hello everybody,

Congrats to everyone!!!! Hopefully the rest of you are popping as we speak.

Heres my very condensed birth story...

After my waters broke and nothing happened it all looked horribly like I was going to have a totally managed birth on syntocin where I wouldn't be allowed to leave the bed and was being encouraged to seriously consider an epidural, baby had turned since my waters broke to posterior and my bp had shot up to 145 over 95.

All of that changed because I happened to get a change of midwife (end of shift) who found that my waters hadn't gone properly and believed I could get the baby out by myself without the drip.

She broke my waters and let me stomp about the hospital through the night bringing on my contractions. Everything just fell into place as though it had been planned ds turned in the last ten mins and I pushed him out in about 5 pushes - no real damage to me and exactly as I would have planned it if I could have done.

Just feel incredibly blessed in comparison with how it could have been.

Thanks for all the handholding

KKQxxx

Confuzzeled · 25/08/2009 01:52

My waters have broken.

duchesse · 25/08/2009 04:39

Good luck Confuzzeled!

Nothing much happening here. I went to bed, cx from last night stopped again.

ScummyMummy · 25/08/2009 10:36

Good luck confuzzled and duchesse,

Chrysanthamum · 25/08/2009 12:33

Congratulations Yank and good luck Confuzz and Duch. My priming /induction is Saturday and Sunday. Any ideas what it entails or how long it might take? We need to sort childcare out. My other births were induced via the drip but that was because my waters had broken unlike this time.
My bump is still high so i'll probably hang in there until the end - this is all so unpredictable!

rightbobbydazzler · 25/08/2009 18:06

who actually is left now.. why am i always the last to leave the party? my due date today scoffing pineapple, long walks STILL no signs come on baby....

well i've had a rough guess going from the original list please add onto or happily delete if you know more!

I'm still here, my due date is tomorrow and I'm not getting any signs. I'm booked in for a sweep on Monday but I do hope things start sooner than that

Chrysanthamum · 25/08/2009 22:01

Hey that's still a lot of people left not just me. I had another juicy pineapple this afternoon but nothing doing! Taking my son to school and back is starting to drive me nuts as I get all the "still here?" "Going to be a big baby" comments Its well meaning but a bit annoying. I turned down a sweep but maybe I should have gone for it. My induction starts on Saturday anyway so hopefully I'll have the baby by Monday. I'm starting to feel like I'll be pregnant forever!
Good luck everyone else still hangin in there patiently
