Aww, your poor DS Kitkat! I had five ear infections the first year I moved here, they are absolute misery for an adult, never mind a little one who can't figure out what's wrong. Can't believe A&E didn't spot that!

Good luck on the labour front anyway, loving the spider story!

And I have a bit of news....ahem....I seem to have lost my mucus plug about an hour ago! The twinges/pains with every step continue. . .hope I will have something to report soon.

Confuzzeled · 21/08/2009 16:05

Just laughed so much at the spider, thats one to tell your lo on their 21st. Glad the docs found the reason for your ds's temp, poor thing, ear infections can be so painful.

Yank, don't they just do that to freak you out. Mine can be still for ages then we get long periods of athletics. Woo Hoo, about yer plug, hopefully you'll start labour soon.

I had my sweep this morning and it wasn't the most successful. The good news is that my cervix is soft and about a quarter forward, so the mw thinks it'll only be a few days. After, I got some crazy pains but they all stopped, boo sucks. My mother has got the train back home and now I'm worried that all my childless friends who can watch dd are out tonight.

Fingers crossed for everyone.

duchesse · 21/08/2009 18:35

Had my sweep this pm and apparently no change from last Tuesday. Midwife reckons this labour may start off like the last three, with waters breaking. Hooray.

monkeyfeathers · 21/08/2009 19:30

I finally had my baby too.

My waters broke at 1.30am on Tuesday morning, so they made me go in to the hospital for checks even though I told them I was most certainly not in established labour. The world's least personable midwife sent me home to wait for labour with instructions to return at 2pm on Wednesday to be induced.

I got irregular labour pains throughout the day and by 4am on Wednesday morning they were pretty much unbearable (despite my attempts with the tens machine).. So we headed off to the hospital where we got a really lovely midwife and asked for an epidural. My contractions were coming all the time, agonizing but not very effective so I was only 3 cm dilated. I got the epidural (which was brilliant, no pain but I could still feel when I was having contractions). The epidural didn't help the already ineffective and slow contractions (baby was OP) and the baby's heartbeat was messing around on the trace. The registrar decided eventually that it was a technical issue rather than an unhappy baby so they gave me a syntocin drip (to go with the saline for the epidural and the IV antibiotics because my waters broke so long ago).

The drip worked but they left me for an hour while fully dilated to give him time to move down and turn before pushing (it also let the midwife get some lunch). I pushed for over an hour and got him nearly all the way but he was not in a good position and I was exhausted so the registrar decided to get out the ventouse. About a minute after he attached it the baby's head was out and the registrar let the student doctor (who would otherwise have done the whole delivery) deliver the rest.

So baby Callum was born on 19th August at 3.29pm weighing 8lb 6oz. He's really long and healthy but they still made me stay in the ward with him overnight. We escaped yesterday afternoon eventually but only because someone senior enough understood how upset I was about being stuck in there. We'd probably still be there now waiting to see a paediatrician otherwise.

So that's my birth story. Written down it sounds like a complete nightmare labour but it was really relaxed and fine. And callum's mark is healing well.

kitkatqueen · 21/08/2009 21:31

Congratulations monkeyfeathers!!

Glad you're all laughing at my spidery misfortune!!

The worst of it I think is that my dp actually guessed from the other room that the screaming was spider related and on walking in the kitchen and finding me half dressed and shaking said in a calm voice "spider down your top? Thought so!"

I swear that guy is part psychic!

Well I just got back from the hospital, my waters are deffo broken and lovely mw gave me a S&S. She's given me until tommorow at 6pm to get the baby out and if I haven't managed to get things going then i'm to report for induction.

So, curry has been eaten, pineapples are next I'm "aggitating" the great expulsion point ( LOL) and if nothing has happened by tommorrow morning I am going to buy some caulopholum, but I will need to check how to spel it 1st

Yank Good luck with your plug going - get your dp to give you a sweep LOL! We can have a race

Pain is good, bring on the pain

kitkatqueen · 21/08/2009 21:36

That should have read caullophyllum off to research now...

Confuzzeled · 22/08/2009 08:43

Good Luck Kitkat, I've got my fingers crossed for you.

I'm super excited because I just had a show, woo hoo, things are happening for me I think. I ate loads of pineapple yesterday and half a dozen jalapino's in my dinner. I'm off to walk sideways up and down the stairs then take dd out for a stiff walk.

It's such a beautiful day today, much needed after days of rain, we're going to enjoy it

Picante · 22/08/2009 09:06

Delayed birth announcement!

Megan was born at 11.13am on Thursday 20th, weighing in a dainty 10 pounds 7 and a half ounces.

With the help of my fantastic doula I managed without pain relief!

She's got red hair which was a shock!

Confuzzeled · 22/08/2009 09:07

Yay, congrats Pic.

Picante · 22/08/2009 09:12

Pic on profile!

YanknCock · 22/08/2009 11:04

Congrats Picante! She's lovely!

I managed a walk to the shop and back last night, but today every step is so painful and twingey! I want to go to the zoo and DH is quite reluctant.

So the plug went yesterday, was a yellowish snot-like thing, and now this morning am having loads of EWCM, taking me back to my TTC days. Have had what I think are a few very mild contractions or maybe just braxton hicks that have gotten a bit more painful.

Tired of waiting, really hope he comes this weekend. 39+4 today!

kitkatqueen · 22/08/2009 11:24

My blardy contrax stopped. I don't want to be induced!!!!!!(

Got to be back at hospital at 6pm to report for induction.

SmallScrewCap · 22/08/2009 11:41

Oh good luck kitkatqueen. You never know, they may start up again, and you might not get very far into induction before your body says "Oh yeah, this is what we're supposed to be doing" and starts to take the lead.

YanknCock, me too. I see that you've had a recent diagnosis of pre-eclampsia as well - me too! I'm finding it quite hard to be active/have sex/long walks etc - it seems to be a fine line between triggering labour off and making pre-eclampsia worse for potentially 2 more weeks.

Had lots of pains yesterday so tried the warm bath thing to see if it would answer whether I was in labour one way or another. I also treated myself to some lovely grapefruit & geranium bath oil, which was lovely, but a little bit TOO oily and I couldn't wiggle my bumcheeks back up the bath to get out. In the end I had to grab the taps and the shower curtain to twist round to sitting and get out. Not a sausage after that!

duchesse · 22/08/2009 12:22

At this blinking rate I'll be the only one left on this thread... Surely there must be someone due late in the month who won't pop before me? Surely?

rightbobbydazzler · 22/08/2009 12:24

huff puff moan grumble im SO fed up of carrying this baby now i feel like a whale i can't sleep ive got heartburn 2 other kids under 3.5 its too hot my clothes are too tight no signs of labour due date three days away and veering between tears and a full on tantrum.

thank you - just needed to vent.

congrats for all the new babies and good luck to you kitkat.

waddles off to fall on sofa again.

VJaybigpants · 22/08/2009 14:22

duchesse I'm still here, I am having no labour symptoms what so ever!!!!!!!
righbobbydazzler I will ditto your vent

ScummyMummy · 22/08/2009 14:51

Aw, kkq- hope the contractions come back. Still a little while till 6. If not, as SSC says, it may be it doesn't take too much to kickstart labour. Good luck.

Sympathies to all those overdue- that was me 9 days ago and I don't envy you all the worry about when on earth things will start. But they really really will start soon- never fear!

kitkatqueen · 22/08/2009 16:05

I just ate my 1st ever ( and last ) Madras. Dp just joined me to share the birthing experience by eating a tikka. I think my eyeballs are going to explode...

no contrax...

Confuzzeled · 22/08/2009 16:35

Oh kitkat, I'm sending your baby GET OUT vibes.

kitkatqueen · 22/08/2009 16:38

Thanks confuzzeled, but at this point I don't think i'll be able to see him when he pops - i've melted my eyeballs....

cairns · 22/08/2009 16:42

Just popping in to say good luck KKQ, one way or other you'll meet your new little bundle v v soon.

Hope all goes well, and that your contrax start again soon. If not , I was induced (and really didn;t want to be) and it was a lot better than I expected in the end, in fact was better than DS1's birth as it was quicker and not any different pain wise.

VJaybigpants · 22/08/2009 16:49

Lol KKQ at melted eyeballs, you are a lot braver than me, I had a curry last night, nearly went for a korma cos I'm such a wimp but went for a medium veg curry, which I know wasn't hot enough

Confuzzeled · 22/08/2009 17:11

Kitkat, have you tried - this

BabyBump2B · 22/08/2009 17:11

Oh KKQ - you crack me up! hope the melted eyeballs lead to a baby evicton!

Congrats Picante! We were surprised by the mop of thick red hair on our DD too!

kitkatqueen · 22/08/2009 17:17

Thanks cairns x

I was induced 1st time and it did not go too well. 2nd time pineapple - out like a shot. 3rd time they tried to induce me twice both failed and I managed to get it going by myself...

Am a bit worried they may jump straight to drip because of failed inductions last time...

vjay this was deffo hot! had a 3 chilli rating. If you want to try the experience it was an asda take home bag( ok probably not the hottest in the world but i'm a novice too). Good luck with the eyeballs tho - I keep getting the urge to wash mine in milk nah probably wouldn't work. I'll text heinz if and when I pop hopefully she will have time to pop on here and announce for me.

Off to get ready now...

Byeeeeee!
