Oonagh I ordered that changing bag and am excited about picking it up from the post office tomorrow.

Good news on the work for DP becksy. My DH is temping at the mo, and his contract is up on my due date. They promised to let him know by the end of this month if they will renew him. Fingers crossed! Though if they renew him it is straight off to work, if not he gets some time at home with me and LO - a bit torn on what to wish for really.

We were going to go to the seaside for a "last" weekend away but could not find somewhere reasonable for just the one night, and the weather looks like it will be a bit cr*p anyway. Instead I will put the stuff into the hospital bag which I have been putting off. Was in bed from 6.30pm to 6am last night, all well and good but means I feel like all I do is work and sleep (or try to) at the mo.

2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven · 10/07/2009 16:00

Afternoon ladies. Not posted for a few weeks as not much to say really! We were in Cornwall last week so missed the London heatwave, thank God. Was lovely, warm and sunny in Cornwall with cooling sea breezes. Parenting was more like supervising on the beach as the boys just rolled around in the sand/surf like a couple of dogs for the week. Plus we had my mum there to help.

I'm also very ready not to be pg anymore - 37+3 now. Been having lots of cramps and period type pains which I've not experienced before. Could be nothing, could be a long latent phase and then when I get into active labour it could be quick... DS1 my waters broke and eventually I had to be induced at 38 weeks, DS2 was a day or so of pains every 15-20 mins and then 5 hrs of active labour until he was born at 39 weeks. So it's all different every time just to keep us guessing I suppose... Apparently I'm also measuring 2 weeks bigger (since 32 weeks) so fingers crossed she comes a bit early or I'm dreading a big baby!!!

Still not finished the packing although have mainly done the "after" bag - it's just the labour bag to do.

DH starts his new job on Monday, great timing, but much better than no job at all! I'll be surprised if he manages a full week... . He's desperate for a trip to the beach on Sunday (at least 1hr30 from home) and is v. annoyed with me not wanting to venture that far. Tough - don't fancy a mad dash to a strange hospital or delivering in a layby on the A23!

Ooonagh - I concur that all will be fine at 37 weeks and I'm also slightly jealous that you are meeting your little one so soon!

Hope everyone else is doing well - I'm looking forward to hearing someone's baby news soon...

readyfornumber2and3 · 10/07/2009 16:14

Hi all x

I am definately joining you all in the "so over being pregnant club" lol
I am 33+1 and soooooo fed up!!
I am getting alot of niggles although not really bh and am getting the stabbing in the fanjo pains too I got it last time oo and it went on for weeks!

My mum and Dad are legends though and are having DS tonight and if he behaves saturday night aswell so that we can have a rest, I havent slept properly all week due to needing the toilet and not being able to sleep due to period type pain niggles and then having to get up with DS, so it is very much appreciated

I have my next scan next thursday and cant wait to see how big they are estimated at now.

Cant believe that we are nearly there and all the birth announcements will start rolling in in the next couple of weeks

BabyBump2B · 10/07/2009 18:17

Hi all - lost you there for a while but realized I was just being thick and not noticing the link.

Am very at all the BH - nothing here and its actually making me anxious.

Yank I've had a couple of those shooting "electricity" pains down below MW said its when the baby brushes against the cervix. And we used Mineral Mist for one of the rooms in our old house and loved it!

Had a bit of a meltdown yesterday - I'm 35 + 5 and was planning on getting midwife to sign me off on short term disability from work for a month but because of the stupidity of North American insurance companies they won't accept signoff from the midwife!!! And because I haven't had Dr care I can hardly ask my GP to sign me off. I was beside myself. Sadly because DH still doesn't have work we can't afford to be without pay and only government mat leave for any longer than we have to so I have to work for 2 more weeks. I'm devastated - spent almost the whole morning in tears. Aside from all the little things I wanted to do I was just looking forward to a bit of a break before baby arrives and now I'm looking at the reality of maybe 2 weeks off but not getting nearly as much done.

Ok whinge done but it does piss me off that a bunch of rich wankers screw up the economy and its the rest of us that have to suffer.

On the flip side I am so excited about the shower tomorrow - my friends always throw beautiful parties and I can't wait to see what they've planned!

Hopefully everyone has a great weekend

craftynclothy · 10/07/2009 19:20

Evening everyone.

BB2B - sorry you're having to work another 2 weeks. Would it be worth you seeing a gp (might get a sympathetic one)?

No BH's here, at least not that I can notice but at 24 weeks at the 4d scan the sonographer said I was having one so I guess I'm just not noticing them.

Am really sore . Got the spd pain in my pubic bone but it's not in my hips so wondering if baby has moved down a bit and is causing the pain . Also went to loo this morning and was v sore when I wiped...anyway, had a feel (sorry tmi!) and all round my bits felt swollen and some bits really stung when I touched them. Mw advised seeing gp. GP examined me and said my skin has split . She doesn't know why. She's given me Canestan cos there's a 'chance' it's thrush though she wasn't convinced cos I've no discharge and no itching. She did say that thrush sometimes causes skin to crack a little...but mine has actually split. Bit scared it's my previous tear tearing again but mw said that wouldn't happen when I rang to update her.

Hawkmoth · 10/07/2009 19:35

That sounds nasty crafty. Could it be the extra moisture down there? I got quite sore at the top of my leg last week, and the canesten cleared it up - it must kill other sorts of fungus (YUCK!) as well as thrush.

My feet have cracked - looks like someone's been at them with a cheese grater. This didn't happen until after birth last time, so I'm a bit knacked off - especially as I can't reach to put the cream on myself!!!

I'm having the shooting pains as well. Also can really feel baby pressing down from time to time. I'd like to think this means I won't go massively overdue but it probably means nothing.

CoonRapids · 11/07/2009 19:55

Hello - not posted in a while as we were away on a last minute holiday. Weather was a bit rubbish but we had a great time and caught up with some friends hadn't seen in ages. We were up and down cliff paths and went swimming with the dcs so felt good that had managed all that at 36 wks! Feeling tired now though...

Happy that we now have a room for the baby though, having done loads of work to clear out the study. It even has new carpet and is painted. More organised than we were the last 2 babies! Dd is very cute going into baby's room and commenting on all his bits and pieces and giving him some of her toys.

kitkatqueen · 11/07/2009 20:09

Ok things are getting a little bit unfunny here I am now 34 weeks. I have been getting BH on and off since Monday, I have now had continuous (if erratic in strength) contractions since Thursday morning.

Spaced between 3 and 10 mins and after 3 1/2 hours of monitoring last night the hospital can't decide if i'm going into labor or not. They sent me home only because I live less than 30mins away and can get back quickly. Every 5th or 6th contraction is too strong to talk through and I would like to get off the rollercoaster now.

They have said that if the contractions get any more regular any stronger or if I even start getting worried for any reason then I have to go back.

If I even sneeze then thats it, I get a really strong contraction straight away. I've never had this, I was late with the last 2, induced with the 1st and i've always had to walk like mad to get labour going.

They have said that if the baby turns up early then he will be classed as having 2 risk factors (grp b strep + prem) and will be kept in for a week be given antibiotics as a matter of course and will probably need to be tube fed.

It could just stop. I am literally keeping everything crossed that it does.

Heinz - i'm deffo starting to think that the monty python sketch could be me...

Advice needed - anyone.. cheer me up?

OonaghBhuna · 11/07/2009 20:13

Im getting the stabbing pains aswell, very painful indeed.
Crafty- that sounds really sore. I hav had nipple thrush the whole way through and it drives me insane.

Had my pre op appointment at the hosp yesterday, only had to wait 2hrs! Despite the long wait i met with the anesthetist and one of the mws who will be with me in theatre so they are organised. It took me an hour getting home due to bomb alerts in Belfast. It was a very long afternoon.

Two good friends have given me loads of boy clothes so I feel very priviledged that I dont really need to go out and buy any clothes

I have been swimming 3 times this week, its fab and the kids love it. I am going to miss the swimming as I am sure it will be a while before I am able to go in again.
Getting nervous but very excited about Tuesday!!!

OonaghBhuna · 11/07/2009 20:17

Kit Kat- try and rest if you can and if you have any queries phone the mws immediately. Keep timing the BH they could stop. With DD2 I had really strong BH for hours and then when I went to bed they seemed to stop.

Try not to worry you live close by to the hosp and you will be in good hands if you need to go in.Baby will be ok.

Thinking of you X

kitkatqueen · 11/07/2009 20:28

Thanks, Oonagh - Tuesday is a good day to be born btw - its my birthday. x

OonaghBhuna · 11/07/2009 20:34

Well an early happy birthday to you Its also Bastille Day! So have had lots of fun discussing really obscure french revolutionary names!

Fingers crossed for you, update us if you can.

ScummyMummy · 11/07/2009 20:43

Hope you're ok, kitkat. Agree with really resting up. Did they give you steroid injections?

A French revolutionary name would be great, Oonagh!

kitkatqueen · 11/07/2009 21:13

Hi scummy, no steroids - they said they need me back at the drop of a hat if anything changes - ring to warn them and get straight in the car....

still getting them now..

ScummyMummy · 11/07/2009 21:38

Could you take a couple of paracetamol and go to bed and sleep, d'you think? Or are they getting closer together/more painful? When I had my 34 week bleed scare they said that if the baby was born it would be only just preemie and likely to be fine, though possibly in need of some special care for a short while. They did give me steroid injections just to be on the safe side though and they need to be given 24 hours apart, so perhaps they think the likelihood of everything calming down is in your favour if they didn't stick you there and then?

kitkatqueen · 11/07/2009 21:55

I hope u r right about the steroids - it seems the same as yesterday - similar frequency etc, no real change. I'm thinking warm shower paracetamol and bed, my mum has taken all 3 kids for the night and part of tommorrow so I'm hoping a bit of proper sleep and peace and quiet might help.

Uki · 12/07/2009 01:50

KitKat take it easy, hope it all settles down. Seems werid to me that they didn't give you something to settle contractions, I can't remember what they gave me exactly, just 2 tiny tablets but it did the trick, as they were worried about me going too early and i was 36.5 weeks. enjoy having a night off

maybe you do just get more BH 3rd and 4th time round, I had more this morning with lower back pain, and now stopped again.

seems we are all a little over it and anxious at the moment, I'm trying to get even more organised, not really happening though

readyfornumber2and3 · 12/07/2009 08:51

Hope you are feeling better KKQ and that having some time off from the kids has helped Have the contractions calmed down any?

Oonagh Glad you are getting excited about tuesday cant wait to hear the official announcement

Hi to everyone else, hope you are all ok x x

I never had BH with DS but I am getting them everyday now this time! They arent painful more of a nuisance really, the worst part is the back ache that I get with them (Though that could be from the sheer weight of my bump lol)
I had to have a warm bath last night to ease my back and thankfully its fine this morning.

Hawkmoth · 12/07/2009 09:20

Thinking of you KKQ and hoping things settle down for you.

kitkatqueen · 12/07/2009 11:04

Uki, I have no Idea why they didn't give me anything to slow things down, tbh I really wish they had. Things do seem to have slowed down a little this morning- although i'm still getting tightenings they are slightly further apart and a little less intense, so I am really hoping its a good sign.

I'm going to spend the rest of today doing as little as possible in the hope that it will all stop . Last night if I even sneezed I would get an instant v strong contraction that I couldn't talk through and the next 3 would be rapid and intense. Anything energetic like walking or bending was a definate no no!

I've decided i'm going washables with this one so any advice on newborns and washables would be good right now I've bought 2 packs of disposables to hopefully get us past the meconium stage - I think I can still get more motherease nappies cheap (not sandys) ( i picked up some more the other week for 33p each ), but I'm not sure how good they will be on a little one and I don't have any wraps below a ml so deffo need suggestions.

Thanks for al the messages, I'm feeling a bit more positive this morning

Hawkmoth · 12/07/2009 19:10

After being totally baffled by washable nappies - I just bit the bullet and bought 20 bumgenius birth to potty! Obviously not for use in the first week!

BabyBump2B · 13/07/2009 02:49

KitKat - how are you doing?

Nothing new happening here bebe wise but my girl friends threw the most wonderful baby shower for us yesterday. We all spent the day hanging out in the sunshine with amazing food and all the kids. It was so hot I ended up in the paddling pool with a friend's 1 year old which was hilarious!

Wr're going washables too - bumgenius - we bought a large lot with another couple to keep the cost down. Their daughter is 4 weeks old and they find that she's still a bit too small for them. Her little thighs are still so slim that they tend to leak a bit so they're still using disposables at night. I guess we'll see if DD is a chubby little thing then we can use them right away.

martinemorris · 13/07/2009 11:11

Hi ladies,

Just to let you know I have a date for my CS, baby is coming on 28 July.... Feels very odd knowing the date!! Hopes everyone is well....

craftynclothy · 13/07/2009 11:13

KitKat - hope you're ok and things have settled down.

Oooh nappy chat

Well I'm a fan of 2 parters. Found it difficult to get on with pockets and I think it was because dd was a skinny little thing .

My "got far too many" newborn stash is as follows:
nappies:
2 Itti Bitti D'Lish Snap-in AIOs
a few Mother-Ease Sandys
3 Jimmy Riddles
a couple of unknown wahm nappies
1 baby beehinds hemp
1 baby beehinds bamboo
1 mamabless hemp (don't really like this one)
1 MEOS (don't really like)
2 popolini one size (don't really like)
1 Wonderoo pocket nappy (got this to test whether they were any good to stock in store and it was the only pocket we got on with)
1 Bumgenius pocket nappy
1 precious nappy bamboo
1 precious nappy microfleece (bought these at a local baby show - it's a local company and thought I'd give them a try)
24 terry squares
um...there may be more
wraps:
1 precious wrap (got at the local baby show)
2 Mother-Ease wraps in small but think they might be a bit big at first
2 one life
2 little lamb
5 pairs of wool longies (knit by mum in my hand-dyed yarn!)

I'm also crocheting a soaker and mum has started knitting soakers too .

ScummyMummy · 13/07/2009 13:18

Ooh- so we've got two more almost definite birthdays now, Martine, what with Oonagh being due tomorrow and you on the 28th. So exciting. You guys are in the vanguard- 2nd and 3rd babies after Michaela's little Nathan. I wonder how he's doing?

Hope you're feeling ok, Oonagh. Lots of love to you- can't wait to hear that your baby is here.

Have things calmed down for you, kitkat? Hope all is well.

I'm v tempted by washables this time round too. Worried that this is because for the first time in many many years I do not have a washing pile though! That, plus they look ever so cute and colourful, the new generation of reuseables. The great washing basket emptying phenomenon is purely a result of the unusual and temporary situation of me being home with not much to do other than clean though and maybe washables would be a last straw type disaster once partner and I were both back to working full time and living in a pigsty again. Is there anyone on here on the, ahem, messy side, who has used them successfully?

Glad your shower went well, bb2b.
