Hello all! Thought I would start this off as our existing thread is full!

OP posts:

Very reasuring to find other people with no symptoms on this thread. 11 weeks but only way you can tell is that I've gone up two bra sizes. Got to wait until 10 of July for a scan but I want to know things are okay now - has anyone got sick of waiting and gone private?

sazlocks · 14/06/2009 19:47

evening all - just back from a fab weekend away with DS and DH. I really wasn't up for going as feeling so rough but as ever the things you don't look forward to often end up being all the better. We went camping and sat by the sea last night with a lovely campfire and a BBQ. Managed to get a few naps in and feel restored and ready to face the week now
Now will read over the thread and try and catch up what I missed.

maygirl · 14/06/2009 21:12

Hi all,
My scan's not until 17th July. Seems ages away as with DS they scanned at 9.5 weeks. Had an argument with lady on phone as she denied they ever offered earlier scans as standard and said has to be after 12 weeks, even though my midwife this time said I could have a dating scan from 8 weeks if didn't want the nuchal scan. Scan booking lady then went on to question over the phone why I don't want the nuchal scan! Sure I should be able to get an earlier one, but it was her first day on the job or something!
Oh well, will just have to sit tight for another month!
Trying not to give into the temptation to go private, would rather spend the £s on a 3d scan later. We had one last time and was lovely, really emotional.
Have a good week girls!

liny · 15/06/2009 09:58

hello!
yes what a fantastic weather this week-end!.
Had a great BBQ last night, ate far too much and spent the night trying to digest... ;-))

Hi Gizzy1973, same scan date 22/06. Just a week to wait now, I'm also doing a NT scan so hope it will all be ok-

enjoy your day!

coffeeicecream · 15/06/2009 10:57

10th July my scan [smaile]

quirkychick · 15/06/2009 11:12

My scan is July 10th too coffeeicecream. I had an early scan last week due to bleeding - but all alright so far!

Good luck everybody with their scans. xx

coffeeicecream · 15/06/2009 11:15

I am 9.30 am it seems such a long time away cant wait what time are you quirkychick

EsmeandDante · 15/06/2009 12:12

Morning everyone!! Hope you had lovely sunny weekends!

I've been away a while and you guys chat so fast!!taken me a while to catch up..

Congrats to everyone with successful scans and big hugs and cuddles to everyone who is having a tough time.

Annie - hope you're feeling better now; I've been off work and antibiotics for over a week for a UTI - so take it easy and get busy being lazy I say!

Quick Q: anybody know when I should expect my first scan date through? I reckon I'm into my 9th week now and haven't heard anything yet. I'm with St Guys/St Thomas.

Has anybody else been having crazy dreams recently? Mine knacker me out they are so wierd. Lastnight I went scuba diving with the baby it involved lots of fish and was a horribly wrong experience...

Right, I'm off to eat apricots while wishing they were boubon biscuits...

CoffeeAndCarrotCake · 15/06/2009 12:38

Just had another look on this thread, and am weirdly really pleased to see we're still there on the end of the list of Jan 2010 alumni! Thank you!

I'm feeling loads better now, and almost ready to try again, much to DH's delight . So, I'll try to catch you ladies up, and when January rolls around you're all juggling newborns, I'll hopefully only have a few smug months left of managing very well with 1 DD before another DC appears and all hell breaks loose....

All the best x

AmyLou32 · 15/06/2009 13:07

Hey All,

Hope your doing well? I'm trying to catch up with all the updates too Well it seems the scan dates are coming through slowly but surely, so I thought I would ask if anyone knew much about Nuchal Scans? I have been invited for one but not until the 11th Aug - which would make me approx 18 weeks by then? All the information I have read so far suggests that the Nuchal scan should be performed between 11-14 weeks? Do they perform them later or do you think this might be a mistake? I have tried to ring the hospital but can't get answer?

I have not had a standard 12 week scan date through yet from my hospital and I am 10+1 today!

totalmisfit · 15/06/2009 13:30

I'm confused now - when i had dd, as far as i can remember the nuchal scan was part of the 12 week scan i.e just another thing they looked for. I was assuming it would be the same now but it doesn't seem to be. Bit worried now as they've only mentioned 12 and 20 week scans and haven't even mentioned the nuchal one.

EsmeandDante · 15/06/2009 13:44

coffeeandcarrot you are so strong!keep us updated and wishing you and your DH all the best!

Amy That sounds like your hosp is being lazy to me. I would either speak to your GP or keep trying to call your appointments dept at the hosp and giv'em hell! good luck...

timmette · 15/06/2009 13:52

Amylou that's too late I believe after 14 weeks the nuchal fold starts to disappear so there is not much they can see - also it is normally done in conjunction with blood tests.

AmyLou32 · 15/06/2009 14:20

Ah thanks guys - that is what I anticipated you to say, but just want to check as this is my first, and apart from some reading I've done, I have noooooo idea what is supposed to be going on! I will keep trying the hospital!

Thanks again

lilacpink · 15/06/2009 14:29

I've just been looking into nuchal etc. tests and made decision to have all the non-invasive tests I can.

I'm having blood tests tomorrow, incl. to test for markers for DS. Then having scan on 6th July, which will incl. measure Nuchal thickness. Apparently all the info goes into PC software, incl EDD, my age, etc. then if a high number comes out, all is ok (low risk). If low number then there are 2 types of tests amniocentesis (fluid) and chorionic vilus sampling (placenta). There may be little time for CVS though as think it has to be done before week 14. My midwife said one in four hundred risk is still considered low. Invasive tests have around one in hundred risk of MC. She said in the area that I live the figure for being correct on the non-invasive tests is around 85% accurate.

Hope info helps, please correct me if wrong. I'm dreading the tests, but have decided that personally I'd rather know.

Amylou I would def ask for earlier tests (incl. bloodtests after wk 10 and before scan) if you want to know.

maygirl · 15/06/2009 15:16

My hospital must be feeling super efficient, just had letters with 20 week scan and consultant appts for September! I have to see a consultant as standard this time as had a c-sec last time.
Had to call and change date for the scan as they'd given me one during hol in US. Now it's the day we get back, last appointment, so we'll both be jet lagged but something to look forward to at end of holiday

AmyLou32 · 15/06/2009 17:10

lilacpink - is the NHS doing that for you or are you going elsewhere?

lilacpink · 15/06/2009 20:55

Hi Amylou my midwife gave me all details and is all on NHS system. She gave me a number to call to book the 12 week scan, and when I did this they already had my details to show I wanted the nuchal part and that I was having the blood test for markers.

It may be different in different areas: i.e. perhaps I'm in a 'pilot' area for this. 3 years ago (same area) I only had 1 scan at around 20 weeks, and any further testing was at my expense. Or maybe in some areas you need to request it, rather than it being offered. I would try to contact the hosp direct first as they've offered you a date already, to ask them to bring it forward. But, do you have an information line for your local midwives? If not, your clinic should be able to provide this (I think). It may help if your midwife had all your information up-to-date on your records, e.g. for the bloodtests for markers mine had to sign a form to confirm that she had explained the tests, then I had to counter-sign.

lilacpink · 15/06/2009 21:04

Amylou I've just dipped into the due Dec thread (I like to see what's coming up!) and I saw someone say "Going to miss the Nuchal fold scan as they don't start doing them here for another month" after the scan "She said although she couldn't say officially, the nuchal fold looked nice and thin" (only a few posts down at the moment). I'd still ask though, just in case it is an option and your hosp just aren't being helpful!

quirkychick · 15/06/2009 21:23

coffeeicecream I'm at 9:10am so we're both early!

Amylou I have booked a private nuchal scan on 14th July. Here it is offered on NHS if you are 40+ and I'm not quite so was given the number if I wanted to arrange a private one. Info says that you have to have scan between 11wks and 13+6wks and I would have to re-arrange if this wasn't the case. 4yrs ago wasn't offered it so don't know if I was too young or the policy has changed. It is combined with the triple test as if you have it separately it can affect the ratios/numbers. Perhaps your midwife/antenatal dept can give you some info. Hope this helps.

AmyLou32 · 15/06/2009 22:34

Thanks lilacpink and quirkychick, I did actually think that it was something everyone had access to, I didn't realise that is was affected by the NHS postcode lottery! I'll be on the phone again tomorrow

Hope you all sleep well (smile)

gizzy1973 · 15/06/2009 22:43

in worcesteshire you have to pay for private nuchal scan if you want one as they dont do them whatever your age

not having it as we cant afford £180 and it wouldnt make any difference either way

Biccy · 16/06/2009 08:48

Hi all
I will have to pay if I want the nuchal scan. Have been told I'll get a dating scan at 11 weeks, and as I'm so paranoid about mc/mmc I think I'm going to wait until I have the date for that, then book a nuchal for after it, then if all is not well at the nhs scan I can cancel the private one... hope that doesn't sound incredibly mercenary.

Am only 8 weeks but ended up buying two new dresses yesterday to hide my swollen tum! I'm sure it's just bloatedness, but am starting to think by the time it goes down it will be replaced by a real bump! Hope I haven't tempted fate by buying a actual maternity dress. I don't think it looks like one... still, couldn't bring myself to wear it today; why am I so superstitious, I know that wearing a dress isn't going to make any difference to what happens... just can't help it! aargh.

helenabeth · 16/06/2009 08:52

Yes - some areas have nuchal scans as standard, but most don't. The window for them is quite short, as someone as already mentioned. For my last two we had private scans done as the first nhs one wasn't until 20 weeks. Am having an early scan on Fri when I'll be 8+2, as my nhs one this time isn't until 15.5 weeks. Think I'll be the size of a house by then! So I won't have a specific nuchal scan, but my midwife will take bloods as one way of getting an indication.

Hope all well. I'm still retching a lot, but not actually being sick. Don't want to tell the boys until I'm further along though.

VivClicquot · 16/06/2009 09:23

Morning ladies x

Dating scan number two for me this morning - am really rather nervous again, especially as DP can't come this time, which makes me think is a bad omen.

Had to tell my best mate last night due to the following exchange of text messages:

BM: Do you know if X can come to your hen do yet? (Which is in Krakow in August)

Me: She's still a maybe as she's just found out she's pregnant - she really wants to come but is going to see how she feels nearer the time.

BM: Bloody hell. Not another one. What is it with your mates at the minute - can't they keep their knickers on until AFTER the wedding? How inconsiderate!

Me: Errrr.....

Oh and I have yet ANOTHER dilemma. Am due to visit my other best mate who lives in Kent this weekend whose 12 week old DS has just developed chicken pox. I definitely had it as a child so should be immune, but am still not sure whether we should go? What say you, oh wise MN ladies?
