Hello all! Thought I would start this off as our existing thread is full!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
maygirl · 18/07/2009 16:41

Sorry to hear about your grandmother Crumpette.

We had our scan on Friday, and baby looks fine. Just had the dating scan, declined nuchal, and my due date has stayed the same at 26th Jan. Was lovely to see him/her, feels like we waited forever this time for a glimpse!

Had a night out afterwards with DH as mum here to look after DS while we had the scan. We had a chinese then went to a comedy club. Back home at nearly midnight, far too late for me and the bump! Just had to have a nap to recover

Thanks to whoever recommended the pilates DVD, have just got it and looks really good. I liked the abs bit, gave me some new ideas to try. I've been having to make up my own routine for the abs bit at the end of classes at the gym since having to stop crunches, and it's been a a bit random and half hearted!
Good evening everyone.

FlightofFancy · 18/07/2009 17:41

Hi all,
Hope everyone having a good weekend. Just need a bit of help from more experienced people understanding the Down's syndrome results I got in the post today (know that if I was being properly PFB then I'd've phoned midwife and interuppted her Saturday!).
Gives me background risk of 1:785 (which I presume is general risk based on age - 31). Then an adjusted risk of 1:6279. So presume that's all OK?
Nuchal measurement was 1.7 if that help decode the info!
Was suprised there was no covering letter explaining!
Cheers all.

quirkychick · 18/07/2009 18:28

crumpette so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Here is a pre-eclampsia support forum that was recommended on another thread with the NICE guidelines for treating someone at risk here. I hope it is useful. You might want to print it off to show the unpleasant receptionist!

FlightofFancy I think 1:6279 is very low and the NHS only recommends amnio for a definite test with a 1:250 risk or above as there is a risk of miscarriage (with an amniocentesis). This was explained to me by the consultant doing the scan, they should have done the same for you too not just sent you a letter with no explanation. Hope that helps. Congratulations on your results!

sazlocks · 18/07/2009 19:21

Hi all
flightoffancy that risk is extremely low. The background risk (as I understand it) is your walking in the door risk and is based on age. The adjusted risk is your age, the blood results and the nuchal scan results. Sounds great to me - nothing to worry about. My walking in the door risk was 1 in 250 and adjusted was 1 in 7300 ish. Very unhelpful to send that in the post with no explanation.
Crumpette sorry to hear about your grandmother - that is tough on top of everything else.
maygirl congrats on your scan

I am also exhausted - not helped by running around after my gorgeous 18 month old all day. Musn't grumble too much as after getting up with him at 6.30 I did get a further 2 hour kip when I put him down for a nap at 9 am - YAY. I am finding work, toddlerdom, pregnancy exhausting and lynneevans - I hate the world as well ! very bad tempered which is nice to be around !
Happy weekend y'all

bethoo · 18/07/2009 20:31

maygirl once you start doing the DVD you will become addicted as i do it most night and the lasy who does it has a calming voice and is not patronising like some can be. it is really good, and i actaully think that is can already see a difference in my arms and thighs!!! good luck and it is really fun to do

somewhathorrified · 19/07/2009 11:01

Got told yesterday but a mate "wow, you've definitely got good bump going there!" no hiding it anymore . Doesn't help my body image when my MIL says "I didn't show 'til I was 5 months gone on my first" ...well bully for you. Am totally amazed at change in body size in 6 weeks...size 10 to size 14+, 36b to 36E. It's all so demoralizing, I'm sure I'm gonna end up the size of a house, I already feel like a beached whale and OMG I started to waddle! what the hells that about?

Sorry just needed to vent.

crumpette sorry to hear about your grandma, I've just been to DH's grandmas funeral. The (obvious) news of my pregnancy absolutely made Granpas day and everyone was genuinely enthusiatic about it. Might have something to do with the fact that me and grandma shared the same name.

Liskey · 19/07/2009 14:11

somewhathorrified I've gone from a 34B to 38D - no bump as yet though - and I've been out and bought a maternity swimsuit but haven't tried it on yet. I was amazed at the change in bodyshape as well couldn't believe it! DH was of no use saying "Oh thought you'd changed a bit" A bit! I'm sure your not waddling really - just getting ready early?

Crumpette my DH is also now panicked about swineflu - as is my twin sister. I think I'm the calmest one around who keeps saying its normally mild and I'd get antivirials is I got symptons. doesn't help DH is downstairs blowing his nose (loudly) as he has a streaming cold (no temperature though). I was very relieved whn I got the scan results through as I'll be 36 when the baby comes along.

crumpette · 19/07/2009 14:38

hello, thanks re my grandmother- it's just really bad timing! She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about 6 weeks ago I think, so it wasn't unexpected but was very very fast. lynnevans re my DD, I wasn't going to post it again as I will depress everyone(sorry!)but she died in April aged 14 and a bit months. She was in hospital for over 3 months beforehand, she caught a virus (flu symptoms) from DP, then suddenly developed liver failure (which is extremely rare but occasionally a virus can attack the liver or other organs), she had a liver transplant, it failed after 2 weeks, she had another one, it went pretty badly and she ended up brain damaged and in a lot of pain afterwards but she survived until she suddenly deteriorated over a few days in April and ended up back in intensive care and diedshe was my best little friend, really clever and sweet and happy

Anyway yes so this year has been v bad thus far! However on a positive- I have no swine flu symptoms as yet!!

flightoffancy as sazlocks and quirkychick said that risk is very low indeed so it's a fab result

crumpette · 19/07/2009 14:45

Having psychoanalysed myself today I think the reason I am dreading my grandmother's funeral sooo much is that people will start talking to me about DD which I can't handle at all just yet, so am plotting ways of not going! As they live hours away from London I am thinking of just going to the service and not the tedious reception bit afterwards saying we have to drive back early.

Oh- also on the bump front, I wore maternity jeans today (eek) and had a visible bump. It seems to really depend on what I wear! Also extreme expanding going on in the chest department, have gone from 32c to 34/36dd aaaah! I think my breasts are confused as there is already milk there. They didn't grow much with DD at all until they became enormous after she was born, so I wasn't expecting this just yet...

crumpette · 19/07/2009 14:47

sorry, tmi!

FlightofFancy · 19/07/2009 14:58

Thanks all - glad all positive! To be fair to midwife/docs I got results by post as had blood taken for test at hosp rather than in normal midwife appt as booking in was about 3 days too early for her to take blood. Was veh impressed by 3 day turnaround for results though.
Started to tell people and amused/annoyed by mixed reactions - what's wrong with a good old fashioned 'congratulations'!! (and why does everyone feel they've got to have guessed already - it's not against the law to be suprised

Liskey · 19/07/2009 15:01

I'm so sorry about your DD Crumpette - thats just the most terrible thing.

Your plan for the funeral sounds like a good idea - especially if your family aren't too good supportwise. Please take things easy on yourself and get your DP to give you a RL hug {{{{{hugs}}}}}}

quirkychick · 19/07/2009 15:09

Oh, crumpette how sad! Be gentle with yourself, especially at a funeral. I think leaving afterwards would be a good idea, you are much more hormonal when you are pg too.

crumpette · 19/07/2009 15:11

yeah I think the least time spent with 'the family' the better! Thanks for hugs it was all really horrendous but I don't think it has sunk in yet

What I don't get is why everyone feels the need to ask ''was it planned?'' when I say I am pregnant. Like, why are you asking?? Does it matter?? Are you going to judge me for planning it after this year's events or are you going to think am irresponsible if I say it wasn't planned? aaah!!

Sorry, but really, that's what I get asked all the time. Is it just me!?

alibobins · 19/07/2009 16:34

So much going on with everyone this thread moves so fast.
Got loads on my mind as Dd was diagnosed with an auto-immune condition two weeks ago and treatment involes weekly methotrexate injection and 3 days a month steroid infusions its attacking her eyes and she could lose her sight

On a happier note I felt a really strong kicks last night so at least little one is okay only 4 weeks till my next scan.

quirkychick · 19/07/2009 18:29

alibobins best of luck for you and your Dd! It is always hard when Dcs are ill, especially when it is potentially serious.

crumpette with Dd I kept being asked if it was planned as we are not married, even though I had relocated from London to be with Dp and we had been together for 5yrs. Even comments from parents of children I taught saying they hadn't thought I was maternal - why I worked with small children and obviously I was going to discuss my fertility/sex life at the classroom door! Some people are just rude/nosy.

sazlocks · 19/07/2009 18:59

Evening all - I have started us a new thread off as this one will be full v shortly.

alibobins sorry to hear about your DD hope you are bearing up ok in the circumstances.

Crumpette I have started a thread in pregnancy about all the mad things people say when you tell them you are pregnant - its hilarious some of the things people have had said to them.

somewhat I am well and truly abandoned to maternity clothes. What a relief although slight horror as I am sure I didn't show until late August last time !

lynneevans51 · 19/07/2009 20:02

Sazlocks - struggling to find the new thread you've started off.....?

Crumpette and Alibobins - Jesus Christ!! Puts everyone else's pg woes into perspective. Keep strong.
