Hello all! Thought I would start this off as our existing thread is full!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Good news sazlocks - welcome to 24th Jan!

I can't get over your childminder bethoo, scare mongering like that. I haven't heard anything like that - the latest was 1 in 200 people who seek medical advice, i.e. a lot less than 1 in 200 who actually get the virus as loads of people aren't ill enough to bother calling the doc, and some people get it and have no symptons at all. So, erm, no more deadly than the normal flu we all risk getting every year.

bethoo · 17/07/2009 11:36

Biccy i have tried telling her that bless her. she told me this mornign that she had sterilised her whole house and even sterilised the kids before they came into her house, this was said as i was handing her my snotty nosed cold riddled 9 month old! she is a good childminder dont get me wrong but such a worrybum (said lovingly!), we are different in that i beleive in letting children build defences where as the first sign of illness she is at drs demanding some sort of drug. if my lo has a cough/runny nose/constipation she is calling me tellng me i must take her to gp directly for antibiotics. she has her son on some laxative prescribefd by the dr for his constipation adn recommends i do the same. talk about forcing your beliefs on others. i think she must think i dont love my kids or something! but i am sure i could spot the difference between something minor and something serious, well i like to think i could. but she is good at her job in that she is cautious like that but i find it hard to get it across to her that all is well and no need for nedical intervention for constipation or a runny nose bless her

Afternoon all - I'm updating the list as realised I hadn't put myself on it. My LMP due date is 14/1/10, but by last scan, they say 7th Jan - so that's what I'm putting down here - although I still firmly believe its more like 14th!!

I am feeling exhausted... the boys have only been off school for 2 days. I had been having a nice nap in the afternoon while DS2 was at nursery. How am I going to cope with 6 weeks without napping???
Hopefully the tiredness will wear off at some point, or else I'll be going to bed with the children. I don't think it helps that DS2 still gets up most nights (he's almost 4 now...when will he sleep through?!)

My scan gave me the 18th as my due date... guess I'll have to move out of the popular 24th spot (was the bank holiday weekend to blame there do we think? )
In my head I'm still due 24th. Both my boys were over a week late anyway.

quirkychick · 17/07/2009 17:52

sockmonkey I too am exhausted. I fell asleep on the sofa while dd was playing in the room today and woke up an hour later as she said "I'm hungry, mummy" . Pasta is cooking as I type.

I think we are going to have to reinstate "quiet time" after lunch. So mummy can have a sleep! Trying to catch up with some friends, do some things with dd and get some general stuff done like dentist appt. I hope I start to feel a little more energetic soon.

crumpette · 17/07/2009 19:15

Hello

So I skived this afternoon off work, just went awol after lunch!

Used time to take stuff into hospital where DD spent half the year (toys etc for intensive care and ward) and people were shocked that I am pregnant, apparently I don't look it at all!! !! I thought I was huge! I don't even think they believed me, in fact!

I then went to book my mw and consultant appt as instructed to do at my booking appointment- and the old hag nice lady at the desk refused to book a consultants appointment for me, even though the midwife had specified I had to see one by 20 weeks due to history of cholestasis and pre-eclampsia. So she booked a midwife instead!

Wtf??!! I am so annoyed! Then I booked my scan, she (different lady) said it's policy to not book scans until 22 weeks- got my name totally wrong and was very rude when I told her I am very busy on september 3rd (court case- not against me!! but essential I attend!) aaargh

sorry, vent over! phew! feel so much better now!

lynneevans51 · 17/07/2009 19:15

Swineflu .... just found out that my DSs best friend has swine flu, plus another 5 in his class at school. The BF of DS also has a brother in my DD's class - as a "high risk case" being both pregnant and asthmatic can't wait for school to finish on Tuesday and hopefully keep out of the danger zone!!! As for sockmonkey and quirkychick, I've been exhausted since day 1 pretty much and have to schedule in an afternoon nap every day. How v v sad is that? This week has been particularly busy so I can't wait for the weekend and some imaginary lie-ins.... trouble is DH is out on the p*ss tonight, so I feel I may not get the lie-in tomorrow due to his undoubted comatose state!

lynneevans51 · 17/07/2009 19:19

Crumpette - vent well received. WTF indeed!! Far be it from me to criticise NHS but seriously - some of the staff have such a problem - jobsworths etc. I got my 20 week scan date through and am hols - managed to change it to the following week no problem. Plus because I need a consultant appt - they wrote to me with the date - I didn't have to chase them.... I guess sometimes it just depends on where you are and whether the particular staff member you deal with on that day has any human fibres at all!!

Have a better weekend.

mowmi · 17/07/2009 19:30

Lottie - how was the scan? 13th Jan is my birthday by the way!

crumpette · 17/07/2009 19:31

Thanks! Can your DS/DD skive Monday/Tuesday!??

I think swine flu won't be too much of a problem for most healthy people, if you get any symptoms get relenza asap, but hopefully if you are otherwise fit and OK you'd be alright. Not the kind of stress you need!

The midwife was adamant I had to see consultant as LFTs already dodgy and obstetric cholestasis can cause stillbirth etc etc, so it was quite important- I hate the kind of receptionist who thinks they know more than medical staff and gets off on little power trips!

I am sooooooooooooooo annoyed!!!!!

phew, sorry again! Meanwhile- shockhorror- there is no food in the house!! Can you believe it!? not even crumpets!!

crumpette · 17/07/2009 19:36

mowmi 7th Jan is my bday, the day after my EDD- am wondering if I am going to have the most painful birthday ever......

quirkychick · 17/07/2009 20:39

crumpette I have a history of pre-eclampsia and dvt, my lovely gp referred me to antenatal clinic and consultant from 6wks. If they won't listen to mw what about trying your gp? I have been seen at clinic twice at 6wks and 12wks this time following scan. Will have scan at 20wks+clinic and small baby scan (ie to check growth) at 28wks+clinic. Each time I see a nurse/midwife and a doctor on the consultant's team. You definitely need to make a fuss! Good luck. FWIW I was told I have a 20% of pre-eclampsia recurring.

crumpette · 17/07/2009 20:47

Hi quirkychick thanks, I thought I was being irrationally moody and irate but she was so rude to me and completely refused to book the appointment which had already been requested, in my notes, by a lead midwife at the hospital! I heard pre-eclampsia only happens in first pregnancies, but then heard that's a myth and it can easily recur, and often does, and cholestasis apparently always recurs which is worrying..

hmphf

crumpette · 17/07/2009 20:53

ok..deep breathing.. am over it!

ClaireDB · 17/07/2009 22:34

I look like I've got a beer gut. I'm actually looking forward to getting a bit bigger so I look properly pregnant!

crumpette: could you go to a different hospital if they treat you like that? I got a choice of 3. Suppose it depends on your area though, it's all pretty inconsistent, and confusing.

The real reception woes were in suite 8, I think, the antenatal/early pregnancy part. Joy.

Excellent news that scan was OK lottie- if you had somebody called Jesus doing it he is brilliant at finding the sex.. yay so it could be a girl and a boy? How cute!!!

I went to St Thomas's last time but as I'm so much closer to Kings now I think I will stay there.. hmmmm

Haven't told any of my family I am pregnant. I have to go to a funeral next week as my grandmother, who brought me up, died this week suddenly so I am dreading seeing everyone. I have nothing that will fit, and hide it!!! Someone is bound to say something... may not be the best time to announce it!

Crumpetter sorry to hear about your loss and i would say a big gathering like that is always a good time to share happy news and can make the day easier iyswim

Liskey · 18/07/2009 12:34

Sorry to hear that Crumpettte - my Gran died when I was about 6 weeks pregnant - we found out the week before she was terminally ill. Really sorry to hear that.

I got my NT results through as 1-50,000 so started telling people at work now. Those who know about the mmc last year are really pleased for me - I think the others are worrying about how the team will cope as we've lost various members of staff over the last 3 months.

I've updated the list as my due date is now the 13 Jan.

Having an awfully bad hormonal day today. I struggled with this in my last pregnancy. Basically seem to hate DH and kids - everything they say and do I literally want to scream at them and find I'm fighting some kind of onset of Tourettes Syndrome!!! Want to swear uncontrollably as some kind of way of expressing anger. Even though I know the feelings are completely irrational, it just doesn't help feelings of intense anger. V tearful also once anger subsides.

Does anyone else ever go through this? Am I completely mad?

crumpette · 18/07/2009 16:18

liskey what fab results, they make my 1 in 33000 look worrying!

hmm the general plan was to not tell my family at all (long story, they think I should be completing high flying career and doing it all the right way round, they disapprove of babies in general and were really mega-useless when DD became ill earlier this year, to the point of saying they wanted her to die, and I was selfish as a parent to consent to supposedly life-saving treatment)ehem, sorry!! so I decided that it may be best if nobody knows and then we go and visit after he/she arrives! It makes funeral-wear all the more problematic!

Had a bit of a rubbish year thus far, makes me wonder what's next...!

Went shopping today- kingston (?) miles away from here but DP has friends there and I really couldn't face central london, and was completely shocked that there is not a single place there that sells maternity clothes! Their H&M has practically a single rail at the back, and er, that's it, in the whole place!

Ended up getting a stretchy black dress (non-maternity but in a department store sale!) as my suits aren't going to fit, not even with the assistance of scary-spanxesque-tights. It has a lot of pleats going down from the waist so it hides it suprisingly well, and will should fit later on as well.

I think it's a bit informal but may have to do as am expanding daily.

lottie are you definitely off to zurich next month?

am trying to persuade DP that with the whole rubbish year and horrid events thus far, and with small screamy baby set to arrive in Jan, we should really go on holiday somewhere. He, however, has become convinced I will get swine flu and die or we shall be quarantined in another continent! I am hoping to just book something with neither his knowledge nor consent so he can't say no! Any ideas on where would be 'safe'?

crumpette · 18/07/2009 16:20

sorry lynneevans x-posted, yes I find myself hating DP all the time, and my colleagues, and hospital workers, etc etc. However I do think my hatred is rational!!

I'd blame the hormones!

lynneevans51 · 18/07/2009 16:37

Crumpette - for the sake of others like me who have joined rather late - can I be really nosy and ask for more details on your awful year, DD illness etc? I know you've referred to it in recent posts but struggling to get to grips with it all - sounds pretty horrendous....
