I hope I've done this right - here is the new thread...and hopefully the last in ante-natal

silkcushion · 16/06/2009 22:26

evening all

Insy - congratulations on yr little Bear glad you had him today after me accidentally announcing a birth yesterday. Another excellent hb story - feeling very ready to give it a go myself now

MrsM yr dcs are beautiful. Thanks for the response about the mucous plug.

Hello to everyone else

Booked a reflexology session for tomorrow lunchtime in a desperate bid to get thing going at least by my due date - starting to worry that I'll be the last of us left to go

lauraloo09 · 16/06/2009 22:36

evening all hope you all had a lovely day

mrsmcjnr your DC's are lovely baby is just absolutely gorgeous!

insy congrats on baby Edward and love the nickname Bear

silk I am also starting to worry i'll be the last juner to pop just trying to decide what else i can do to get things going...thing is MW tells me to eat fresh pinapple but although i like the take of pineapple I cannot stand the texture of it in my mouth lol

Well tonight i have had some clear discharge like a sneeze but no big 'blob' or blood tinge to it so assuming it is just normal discharge. Sorry for TMI but just back from loo and was almost doubled over due to a sharp 'stabbing' pain in my ladygarden area and keep getting these pains. As a first timer not sure if this is normal or means anything can anyone advise?

Do we have a post natal thread yet? Or shall I post my questions about infacol here?

I love my little Polly so much. I can't quite believe it.

Tee2072 · 17/06/2009 07:09

Morning all!

I don't think we have one yet, help. There was some discussion about starting one, but I think it was decided to wait until everyone gave birth?

I just spoke to hospital. Adam is off his Oxygen and is doing really well. I am hopeful he'll be home this weekend!!

Naat · 17/06/2009 07:51

Hello Juners
Naat's DH here. She has a little mite that won't stop feeding, so I'm posting on her behalf. She promises to catch up as soon as she can.

Thank you for all the sweet messages, she was very happy to receive them.

It all started Saturday night at 12:04 AM when she woke up with strong ctx and after timming only 4 of them she decided to call the BC. They were lasting 1 min or more and 1 min or less apart.

They told us to go and when we got there they checked us in gave us a room with a pool, and did all the paperwork. When they examined her, however, she was only 3cm dialated.

3rd stretch and sweep of the fortnight and after 1 hr she was 4cm so they started filling the pool. She went in at around 4AM, posted on here and started working through labour. Se was quite in control using HB techniques, but at 8AM when they checked her again she was only 5cm dialated.

They offered us to break her waters in order to speed up the process and we doubted a lot as we wanted things to happen naturally, but the fact that it had been so many hs and that at this pace they could be many more made us go for it at 9AM.

After that things started moving a lot quicker, ctx were much stronger, but still Nat remained quite in control. At 1PM, however, after being in the pool for 9hs and feeling quite exhausted due to the high temp of the water and labour itself Nat started losing it a bit, she got teary and looked completely exhausted. She came out of the pool and tried different positions but she was already too tired and nothing was comfortable for her except for the toilet. So there she went and after her the 2 MWs and myself. She sat on the toilet for a while and then decided to stand up and have me as support to enter the final stage.

After a couple of hrs and having been labouring for 15, Mila's head finally appeared, then's when Nat's mum took over my position of holding her so that I could go to the front and deliver our baby with the aid of the MWs.

At 2.53pm Mila Maunier finally arrived, weighing 3.255kg and measuring 51cm. Nat started bleeding quite heavily (now sitting on a birthing stool) so MWs gave her the shot for the 3rd stage, which was perfectly understandable and we thanked them for it. The placenta came out about 5 mins later, one of the MWs showed it to us and explained us everything about it and we were in awe, of course. Nat had a 2nd degree tear but as it was not a bad one they allowed her to "heal by itself" and not have stitches (she has a needle fobia).

Mum and baby are great, baby is on a mission to feed, which is why it's been so hard for Nat to come and post. She'll give you all more details once she can log on.

Again, thanks for all the messages you sent to her and congratulations to all the new mums that have had their babies these last few days as well.

Nat's DH

silkcushion · 17/06/2009 08:34

Thanks for the birth story Mr Nat. Sounds like she did extremely well. I remember the absolute sheer fatigue and exhaustion of my first labour well (but none of the pain). Mila is a lovely name.

Tee - fantastic news re Adam - hope he's home soon. And hope you are feeling better today - make sure you're taking care of yourself

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 17/06/2009 08:49

Congratulations Naat and Mr Naat! Great name!

Congratulations to Insy too!!

Tee - loved your videos of Adam - what a cutie! Hope you get to take him home soon.

LittleSarah - I'm the same. Emily seems to hold onto her wind and I think I've got it all out, give her a feed and then she chucks up everywhere. I've forgotten everything!

Help - you sound so happy to be a mummy! Fabulous!

MrsMcJnr - Your DC are gorgeous!

Well had a bit of a unsettled night as Emily's nose is still blocked so she finds it difficult to feed. She asleep now, I just wish I could join her but DS is putting a stop to that! It's so much harder with two!

Got the docs later so I'm armed with info Doris - I'm determined to come out with some kind of diagnosis! I'm going to ring the BF counsellor to get them to ring, if I get no joy.

Looks like it might be a nice day, weather-wise. Hopefully DS can kick about in the garden and I can doze on a lounger with Emily....

Positive labour vibes for all you ladies in waiting!

ermintrude13 · 17/06/2009 10:25

Naat, you're a star, well done for managing such a long labour so brilliantly - hope you're able to snuggle up with little Mila and recuperate. And you'll pop the next one out in half the time . Oops, is that your DH fainting clean away? .
Oh, and I had a tiny tear both times and they healed quickly without stitches and were then no problem.

lauraloo and silk I share your concerns! My due date today and no show or contractions or anything. Must remember that 20% of babies are born between wks 41 and 42 and that the due date is a pretty moveable feast. Can't wait to see this LO though, and can't think about anything else, or do much else since I'm so mahoosive. A friend had reflexology at 10 days overdue and her waters broke all over the therapist's floor

Ineed you make sure you get an answer and some help from the doc today. Cry if necessary . Hope Emily's wee nose clears soon.

Where's that Looouise??

Hi to everyone else /waves forlornly

worriedamy · 17/06/2009 10:39

lauraloo- I know what you mean about those sharp shooting pains, feels like the baby is scrapin his nails down the front of my bits, raaaather painful! I do feel a bit redundant on this thread as most of you ladies have either given birth or have done it before, and all have lots of very helpful advise for eachother, whereas I still cant quite imagine this little belly I've got has got a full grown baby in it and it will be coming out soon! I just cant imagine it! Readin the wonderful birth stories helps, but I still cant help feeling its still something that happens to other people and not me! If that makes sense!

zozokat · 17/06/2009 11:05

hi everyone,

mind if I (re) join this thread??

I posted a few messages on earlier due-in-June threads a few months ago. I had a rather late and scrambly start at maternity leave (combo of freelance and part-time work, messy!)

Anyway, I was due last Friday 12th and still waiting sigh

Oh and i'm also getting those sharp pains, lauraloo and worriedamy -- unbelievable! Also my first one so always wondering if its normal!!

off to do a bit of waddling walking and keep things moving ?

bigcar · 17/06/2009 11:06

morning all

congratulations to naat, bunny, choccie and insy

tee, your little Adam is gorgeous, good to hear he's doing well and may be home soon Hope the expressing is going well now.

MrsMcJnr, your two are rather lovely too Does your ds suddenly seem to be huge now your dd has arrived?

doris, nothing wrong with dummies didn't a recent study show they could help to prevent sids? Two of mine had dummies and I thought they were great, why have an upset baby when you don't need to be!

ineed, hope you have much better luck at the doctors today and manage that doze in the sun, sounds heavenly

ermin, happy dday! hopefully not long for you now

june, you have my sympathy, my first 4 dcs were all late, between 8 days and 3 weeks, the memory of that time fades very quickly when you have your lo to cuddle

littlesarah, like ermin, my dd1 also used to throw up after every feed, however well she'd been winded. Hopefully it'll just be a one off for you!

dreamy, how exciting, hope to hear baby news from you soon!

laura and silk, sending positive labour vibes your way

Edward seems to be awake more during the day now which is nice, 3 weeks old tomorrow and people are already saying he's changing! One of the mums at school bought her new twins up to school on monday, they are a week younger than Edward but he looks about 6 months older, they were tiny! Dd3 keeps telling me when Edward is crying (even though he's next to me in his moses basket) she's not happy if he's crying and tells me to pick him up, it's so sweet Will try to put some more photos on later.

waves to all

ermintrude13 · 17/06/2009 11:30

worriedamy first-time labour is always a weird one - it would be a bit odd if you weren't at least slightly nervous about it, really. But I'm sure it helps to read all the different birth stories and how they don't always go to plan - and how overjoyed everyone is, however their baby arrived in the end .

zozokat welcome back. I'm due today but no signs of anything, and I'm grumpy enough not being late at all, so do sympathise with you. My DS was 10 days late and I was very fed up indeed.

The shooting pains could be baby burrowing down and getting ready, or ligament pains, also caused by baby weight. Your uterus will be preparing itself for the big moment all the time.

daisy5 · 17/06/2009 11:35

After a few false starts, Fraser Alistair was born Monday 15th June 2009 at 10:08pm. A handsome chap, he weighs in at a tidy 7lbs 13.5oz (3.56kg) and is 56cm long.

....I made it to the hospital 12 hours before due to be induced so cut it fine!! Fraser not at all overdue looking - covered in vernix. not a big baby either as predicted - i just had lots of waters.

Wow girls - so much action in the past few days. Congrats to everyone - naat, insy, bunny, nemo, lynnn & choccie.

Only had 9 hours sleep over past 3 nights and Fraser dozing off now in my arms so will pop off to catch up on some zzzz's and come back later to catch up with all the news properly and tell my little story.

June2009 · 17/06/2009 11:36

hey worried I'm in the same boat, first timer and sometimes can't quite beleive that there's a baby to keep inside my belly!
I think it doesn't matter how much we prepare for it, it'll still be a shock when we hold the baby in our arms for the first time :D

Have you got family with you like a partner/husband, mum or a sister or a friend who can help you with the newborn or a book to read on how to look after a baby?
I've been reading "what to expect" and the "baby whisperer" which has step by step info on things like how to bathe the baby, change a nappy etc. louise said she found some good videos on youtube as well.

tee thrilled that Adam could be back this weekend, Effie said Rupert might be back this weekend too :D

Daisy how it it going, is the induction today?

Laura I've been getting this kind of pain but assumed it's the baby's head making its way down? The mw wrote in my notes she's 3/5 engaged now.

ermin Happy due date! I'm 41+3 and still not having proper contractions or significant labour signs either, I am pulling my hair out.

I'm getting slightly irritated by non-pregnant folks who come up with "tips" on how to bring labour on. If I had a pound everytime I'd be rich :S

  • "have a curry, she'll definitely come out then". "nooo, but have a HOT one, it works I swear".
  • "have plenty of sex"
  • "eat pineapple"
  • "just think about something else" (??)
  • "book expensive tickets to somewhere"
  • "go for a long walk"
To prize for the most ridiculous one has got to go to Sil: "Try to jump up and down" (she tells me this everytime she sees me)...
June2009 · 17/06/2009 11:45

Daisy WOW, congrats, so happy for you that you avoided induction (and very much hoping that same happens to me ;)
The sonographer told me there was plenty of fluid in there too.
Loving the names you chose as well :D
I can't remember whether Monday was a good day for you with your dh's schedule.
Take care of yourself, get some rest and we'll be waiting for your story when you're ready :D

June welcome to Fraser and well done you for beating that induction deadline! Hope you can get some rest now and we'll hear more from you soon.

the dwindling ladies in waiting bit of the list is getting a bit depressing, but there's still lots of june to go [brave smile emoticon]

lauraloo09 · 17/06/2009 11:48

morning all - got a really good nights sleep last night only up twice and finally woke up at 11.10!!!!

june I have been 3/5th engaged for over a month now so i'm hoping the pains i got last night was baby borrowing down more - I am a bit crampy this morning, maybe if i do housework it will help lol Somehow SIL's suggestion of jumping up and down doesn't really work lol

daisy congratulations on the birth of Fraser Alistair and happy you avoided the induction hope you and baby are keeping well

tee glad to hear Adam is doing much better and that he could be home for the weekend

mrnaat thank you for posting the birth story and what a lovely name you both chose for your baby

mrsmcjnr the photos of your children are lovely!

OP posts:

daisy, huge congratulations and welcome to baby Fraser Glad you beat the induction deadline!

Tee2072 · 17/06/2009 12:06

Congratulations daisy and welcome Fraser! Love the name...its my surname.

loooouise · 17/06/2009 12:12

Triple congratulations! Much popping of champagne corks to you busy ladies.

Hooray Daisy!!! Congratulations and hello darling Fraser. I'm so so so happy that you avoided the horrid induction, you were so patient waiting so long. I hope you're cuddling and enjoying the love.

Insy salutes to you and kisses for your little Bear - I can see Bear sticking for life! (But Edward is lovely too!) Hope you're getting some rest now, your birth sounds heroic.

Naat, I think it's lovely your DH brought Mila into the world. No, darling you brought her in, but it's lovely he caught her and said hello! Well done for battling on so long and congratulations on a little girl and a lovely name.

Ermintrude still here , basically symptomless. Happy due date to you!

June thinking of you too - do you have another sweep today?

Laura - my 'friends' have come back for a visit, so it now looks like I'm going to have all sorts of havoc in the front and back bedroom too! OOOOOh, they hurt.

Silk hope you're bearing up....

Ladies with babies pls wait for us! It's really great hearing about your early days, so don't go off on another thread just yet. Plus I think I'm going to be last and will have no one to announce too [selfish emoticon]

Off for another friggin' clary sage bath...

dreamydowler · 17/06/2009 12:22

hi everyone wow so many new babies congratulations to all our new mummies. Ive just got back from the hospital. Ive been getting really strong contractions every 10 minutes today and was given an internal examination this morning and found to be around 2-3 cm dilated so have come home again to labour some more at home. Im hoping they will pick up but could be in for a long painful day and night. Will try to keep updating throughout the day hood luck to everyone else still waiting to pop

silkcushion · 17/06/2009 12:51

Gosh lots of posts

Congratulations Daisy and hello to Little Fraser

Dreamy - blimey you've been contracting for 2 days now - so much for the theory that the more babies you have the quicker it is.

Looouise/June/Zozo - it's really not that long since I was a first time mum and I remember it all feeling completely surreal. It is impossible to imagine having an actual baby. It's also very hard to focus on anything other than the impending birth and how that will go. But as the other mummies on here have shown as soon as yr lo is out nothing else matters. In the last week before I had dd I was utterly convinced labour was starting everyday. We're so immobile and fed up it's natural to obsess about every bit of discomfort or a twinge.

I am trying desperately hard to not think anything might be happening and to distract myself.

Ermin - thanks for the reflexology story. She's coming to my house at 1.30pm so maybe I'll get the towels out rather than flood the lounge floor. Can't remember whether I said but did this last time. Same lady, she rang me back last night at 9pm and asked whether it worked with dd. But how can you tell? I might have been going into labour anyway. Of course if I have this baby tonight you'll all be looking up reflexologists in the morning

Hello to all the mummies - hope you have lovely days with yr babies

I've just baked some blueberry cookies - wish I could share them round (just what you need whilst trapped bfeeding) and it would save me eating them all

zozokat · 17/06/2009 12:55

Daisy, congratulations!! and so good to hear he's healthy and not 'overdue looking' and no induction! fabulous and hope your early days go well?

June, Worriedamy I have also just invested in some baby books (better late than never) got 'what to expect' UK edition hoping it will give me a good general guide. Of course it will arrive next week when (crossed fingers) I won't have time to read anything

June i agree with you about these labour-inducing suggestions from everyone and i've gotten really sick of curry and other hot foods (weird as i normally love hot food but force-feeding is not helping!) um, jumping up and down, really?? that doesn't sound very safe (i assume we're supposed to hold the bump?)

Lauraloo I've also been 3/5 engaged for over a month -- maybe it feels like 'burrowing' but no downward movement is actually happening

Obviously i've joined in again during a very exciting time, hope all new mums and babies are doing well catch up again later!
