I hope I've done this right - here is the new thread...and hopefully the last in ante-natal

ermintrude13 · 11/06/2009 22:06

Yay for Tee, and thanks Nahui - I will spread the news on the other thread we share!

doris what a cutie, love her expression in the pink stripy suit

Effie hmm, that nurse didn't word that very well, did she! Hopefully she meant well. Anyway, well done you for starting feeding - if you're engorged there are notes earlier in the thread about ways of reducing that to make it easier for babe to latch - and for getting out and about so soon!

daisy sneeze in knickers, yum! Good that you have a date but things might be starting sooner.

night night everyone else, am dog tired and feels like baby is trying to burrow out but without contractions to help the process - ouch! xx

Naat · 11/06/2009 22:07

Update from Tee's DH!

Adam Jacon Fraser born today at 10.3am, weighing 8 pounds and 10 ounces. Mother is fine, father is a wreck. Our son has minor breathing problems so has been moved a neo-natal ward and put in an incubator for a couple of days till he gets up to speed.

Thinking of you Tee, hope LO gets better in no time! xxx

lauraloo09 · 11/06/2009 22:27

naat thanks for the update on tee shame her baby has breathing problems will be thinking of them both...and yet again lovely name combination!

effie thats good that BF has started and you had more cuddles and eye contact with Rupert, nurse really didn't choose her words wisely did she and we'd never get fed up of hearing from you x

Well i've had on and off shooting pains down below today, sometimes the pains really knocked me off my feet iykwim. Got midwife tomorrow at 2.30pm so hopefully they can tell me if i have dilated any and if baby is more engaged...def feels like she was trying to escape today

HEY louise mmmm, to be honest I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing with the gymball

I got it to do some exercises to help spd so just sitting on it helped as it would automatically put my knees lower than my hips, legs very sligtly appart and making tiny little movements rolling back and forth to strenghten my lower abs/pelvic muscles.
Even now I just sit on it when im working on my pc and it's easier to get up from it then my chair.
I do lightly bounce on it as well. not sure why read it somewhere.

For 1st stage of labour and helping with contraction pains you can sit on it and roll/rotate your hips around. You can also get ony our knees on the floor and hug the ball to get the baby is a good position, it's also quite comfortable for your back.
You can jsut sit on it and get someone to massage the lowest part of your back.

There are sites like this one or have a look on youtube.com for "birthing ball" and see how to sit on it and use it properly.

Do be careful though, when I tried one that was slightly too small for me I kinda rolled back on it and almost fell off...

It was really useful for me to have the physio show me how to do the exercises correctly so as not to hurt myself.

Good luck with it :D

silkcushion · 11/06/2009 22:43

congrats to Tee and Blue. Hope Tee's little boy is ok.

Ermin - another burrower here.

Laura - I saw my mw today and she said she wouldn't do an internal or a sweep until I was at least a week overdue. (due the day before you). Mw all seem to have different standards don't they?

After my appt with her at 4pm and me saying I'd had no symptoms I've had non stop painful bh since then and loads of pelvic/rectal pressure. Hope baby doesn't come tonight as I've got the carpet fitters coming in the morning. Shall probably find I just need a big poo instead

Hello to everyone else - must get to bed and try to get at least some sleep after two crappy nights

ps Doris your 3 are gorgeous aren't they?

bunnymother · 11/06/2009 22:43

Evening ladies!!

Lynn - very exciting about tomorrow!!! . Of course, text away and Naat or I will post w your news.

Tee - congratulations on little Adam!!! Another Juner whopper baby! Hope his breathing problems clear up quickly.

Effie - oh dear, v poor choice of words from the nurse, but still, the message was good - your baby boy is engaging more so hopefully lots more wonderful bonding for you!

Daisy - hopefully the sneeze means things are underway!

Doris - what a beautiful baby girl you have - such a precious little face!

I am in for my prolongued pregnancy appointment tomorrow, where I will be offered a sweep. Me thinks I will say "yes please" w all my fingers crossed that this encourages our LO out! Be lovely to have her for the weekend w DH, but clearly she has her own agenda...

Off to bed, but will read and post again tomorrow!! Night night lovely Juners!

loooouise · 11/06/2009 23:47

Hey june thanks for that - that 'how to' website is pretty cool. The exercises are v useful for me as baby is back to back, so hopefully this can help me turn him/her around. Much appreciated.

Effie I can totally understand why that would make you and , you poor thing. You don't need insensitive comments like that after all this. Dear little Rupert can't possibly love anybody like he loves his mummy; you are his world!

Doris beautiful pix, beautiful children.

Tee, many congratulations again, Adam is a beautiful name. Hope the incubator sorts out the breathing in a jiffy and he's back in your arms soon. Well done!

Oooh Silk I'll be watching for your post tomorrow...
Bunny, I want a baby for the weekend too!

Morning Juners!

Loouise, I'm on the same train! I'd love baby to come between today and the wkend!

Bunny, fingers super crossed for the sweep to take over and get baby out! Do keep us posted

Silk, ohhhhh maybe that was a sign! Tempting fate with the carpet men might have worked, huh? How's the bump? I was worried yesterday when you told us about the little accident with the boot.

June, I love my birthing ball too it's so comfy and much better than a chair.

Laura, good luck at MW´s appt!!!

Hi Ermin! Hope you had a good rest last night!

Effie, she definitely could have worded it better but the important thing is that Rupert is doing much better and that you'll be able to cuddle him more and be with him more soon

Doris, a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e! So so cute!! DH went all "awwww" on LO I don't think we'll be graduating any time soon, these LOs are too lazy!!

Hi Insy!! Glad you got some help yesterday to help you cope with all. How are you feeling?

Daisy, fingers crossed for LO to come before then!!! I guess you're going to go first then

Hi Dreamy!

Bigcar, thanks for sharing your experience re. induction. I'm so hoping for LO to come before that! Hope Edward is doing well

Oh Choccie, hope you managed to rest after such a hectic day!

Llynn, thinking of you today!!!

Blue, congratulations again!!! Do come back and tell us more

Right, due date today for me and really wishing baby to come as I love the date and it's exactly 6 months before my birthday (I know, I'm odd thinking about these things ) So fingers crossed!

Lovely sun here! I hope you have the same where you are! Have a lovely morning, Juners!

(((waves)))

ermintrude13 · 12/06/2009 09:27

Apparently it's quite common to need a bit of breathing help after C/S, so Tee's little Adam will be right as rain very soon. .

Naat Happy due date, hope the magic numbers work for you!

Choccie hope that bruise is better and that you're feeling OK.

June my sis gave birth over her ball - found it the most comfy and well supported position to push from. I think she had it by the bottom of the bed so gripped onto the bars over the ball and squeezed out her DD that way.

lauraloo and silk, let's hope all that burrowing is doing something useful because it doesn't half feel weird

Hope all goes well for you today Lynn!

bunny I'd definitely take the sweep if offered, hope it's not too uncomfortable to you and that it has some effect.

/big wave to all other Juners on this lovely sunny day.

Nemoandthefishes · 12/06/2009 09:31

very quick post as am snowed under in things I NEED to do.
going in to be induced tonight at 7.30pm so running around like mad woman cleaning up and stripping beds etc

Congrates to the latest babes born...cant wait!! Am so excited and scared and also wondering how will cope with 4 who are 5 and under..eeekkk

lots and lots of labour vibes to everyone else xxx

ermintrude13 · 12/06/2009 09:36

Wow Nemo, how exciting. Mind now, all that rushing about changing bedlinen might bring it on though . Hope it goes really smoothly xx

silkcushion · 12/06/2009 10:08

morning no baby here again. All the activity died down overnight - actually quite relieved as it means the carpets can be fitted now

Bump has a bruise on the top - blends in quite well with the stretchmarks really. Feels sore if I touch it but mw said lo seemed ok yesterday afternoon. She's dropped a bit further into my pelvis too.

Trying to decide whether to nest or rest today

Ohh go to go carpet man just arrived

June2009 · 12/06/2009 10:12

Morning! Right, finally managed to catch up a bit...so here it goes and sorry for the ones I've missed out.
Also a bit of a long post, I probably cross posted with a few people by now...

Happy due date Naat hope today's the day for you!

Effie I think I would have felt the same way after the mw's comment but Rupert knows you are his mummy just with the way you smell and the sound of your voice that he's grown with these past few months. The mw probably doesn't know about the worries you had on wednesday that he wouldn't recognise you as his mummy and she just mentionned it because of the positive progress nature of it. Agreed that other words would have been a better choice. Good luck with the breastfeeding and I hope you too get to bond properly very soon xxx

nahui thanks for the updates

Tee missing you on the thread! hope you and Adam are doing good, you must be over the moon and what a cutie!!

snow Good luck with everything, sorry you won't be getting the birth you were hoping for, I think we all spend 9 months getting to grips with what we want, how we want it and then with the babies being late starting to think that it doesn't really matter as long as they're out soon and safely. Keep in touch and let us know!

loooouise have fun with the ball! How's things up north?

bunny Good luck with the sweep, hope it goes well and gets things started for you, mine's on sunday.

silk This could be it for you then Hope you got some sleep finally!

laura good luck with mw appointment this pm, hope you're not in too much pain in the meantime!

erm hope you got some rest last night.

doris What a lovely baby, can't wait for my own :D:D Hope you're doing ok!

insy what did you stock the freezer up with? I'm a bit stuck as I keep coming up with stuff that's more like winter food and not sure whether we will fancy it.
made lasagna and curry so far, and one chicken pie and can't think or agree with dh about what next...

daisy Did this last sweep bring on any more labour signs? I guess they will tell me on sunday what the next step after the sweep is. Fingers crossed for you. the ladies I know who have been induced all delivered three days after.

dreamy I'm still hoping to find more mucus everytime I go to the loo (so...every half hour) but nothing.

bigcar thanks for your input on induction, I was so convinced that the baby would be early that I did not read about it whatsoever.
I must make a mental note not to tell future new mothers that "you never know, baby might decide to come early!"
I hope you're getting on well with Edward and he's fitting in ok with everyone else in the family!

Ineed, blue, littlesarah, helpive and mrsmc (can;t wait to hear your side fo the story when you come back from hospital!), hope everything is going well for you guys :D

choccie and everybody else who has a baby before 21st: What are you getting for father's day gift?

Right, couple of questions for you...

  • Is there a book out there like "babies for dummies?" I got "what to expect", "baby whisperer" and gina ford's controversial book but I guess what I'm looking for is maybe more of a practical book of what to do to stimulate and interact with a newborn when it's playtime to give me some ideas.
  • What kind of alcohol do you buy to take care of the cord? surgical spirit?
When I asked the chemist for the one that was listed in "what to expect" (hydrogen peroxide / "non stinging spray" which I could not find on the shelves) said she didn't know what it is/wouldn't use that on a baby and offered no alternatives (at the time I had a big long list of stuff to get and could not remember why hydrogen peroxide was on my list so did not mention the umbilical cord. I know some books say to just use water.
  • Is there mozzie bites cream for newborns?
  • What on earth is "ointment", is it for nappy rash? Is sudocream an ointment?

Am I overthinking things? Or is it ok to be going over all this stuff in details to be "prepared".
When I was tidying up my desk yesterday I came across dozens of "baby" lists and thought that if this was someone eles's desk I'd probably think they were verging on neurotic :S

There was one more question, clearly one too many for my brain.
I'm off to doublecheck the stuff in my labour bag.

Have a good day and bring on the babies!

june ointment is what you'd call "pommade" or "crème". So I guess Sudocrem could be considered that.

Naat · 12/06/2009 10:25

Oh daisy don't say that ((hug)) Our brains are mush these days, don't worry

loooouise · 12/06/2009 10:29

June I'd recommend The Rough Guide to Babies. It's not by the same author as The Rough Guide to Pregnancy, which is excellent, but has the same tone; ie informative but non-judgmental/holier than thou.

Things up north aren't so bad, thanks, but it is dull not having any friends around (sigh). I get lots of emails and phone calls though. But I'm getting on splendidly with mum, and as soon as baby's here I'll have a new special little friend!

Good luck tonight Nemo!

ermintrude13 · 12/06/2009 10:33

June you're not over-thinking but you might be over-worrying. I've never put anything on baby's cord stumps and never had a problem with infection. Didn't even bath my babies for about 3 days, when they started to 'open out' a bit and not get so upset about being uncovered. I think that with some things, it might be easier to wait to see if something's necessary and then send DH out to get it - MWs can advise.

Also, I never used nappy creams unless there was an actual rash - no need for 'barrier' creams, whatever kind of nappy you use.

mozzie cream - i think the advice is to use nets and just reduce the risks of bites.

Books - I found Penelope Leach's 'Your Baby and Child' v useful in terms of what to expect when, how to deal with practical things, and just a generally sensible, lovely attitude to bringing up babies and toddlers. You can get early editions v v cheap on Amazon marketplace. But you won't need advice on playing with baby - all the 'round and round the garden' and 'this little piggy' games will come back to you, and you will find playing with their little fingers and toes, tickling under their chins, blowing raspberries on their tummies and doing funny little rhymes with them is very easy - especially when they start to smile. Awww, I can't wait . You'll find out your own ways of playing with your baby don't worry!!

Daisy thanks for updating those lists!

silkcushion · 12/06/2009 10:33

June - you are perhaps overthinking things a little bit

Cord - just use cotton wool and water. With dd it dropped off after 2 days anyway.

Playtime - newborns pretty much sleep and eat and do very little else. imo the only other thing they need is people talking to them. One very good piece of advice my mum gave me was talk to dd even when she was very little. Keep a kind of running commentary going 'now we're going to give you a lovely bath' 'mummy's going to make a cup of tea' etc. I felt a right berk doing it at first but it's really paid off. She's a good talker, bright as a button and very interested in everything (although she may have been like that anyway who knows)

Ointment - sudocrem is an ointment used for nappy rash. It is very drying for the skin so I have only ever used it when vital (on odd days of teething where she is bright red). Healthy baby skin doesn't need anything else on it.

hth

Carpets fitters are here - relly miserable gits they are too. Told me I should have pulled up all the carpets myself before they got here. Did point out that not only had the shop not mentioned it but how did they expect a 9 month pg woman to do all that? They can feck off if they think I'm making them tea/coffee now

Think it will be a nesting day. really really really want to start moving the furniture back into the rooms when they've finished but that would be very silly - so I'll just do a little bit and very slowly

ermintrude13 · 12/06/2009 10:35

x-post silk - glad we seem to agree!

carpet fitters - ours have always moved furniture in and out as well as take out old carpet. cheeky beggars, that should be part of the service. don't they want repeat business??

and don't you dare move it yourself!

silkcushion · 12/06/2009 10:41

ermin - looks like I've x posts with loads of people.

Carpet fitters clearly aren't affected by the credit crunch. I asked if they'd take the old carpets away. The look of shock on their faces was amazing. They said we'll dump it out the front. I pointed out I didn't want the house looking like a gypo campsite and could they please put it in the garage until dh could take it to the tip. The huffing and puffing was unbelievable - he said 'if we have time'. The garage is attached to the bloody house it will take 30 seconds longer. Now I can hear them moaning about the stair gates getting in the way!!! Sod tea/coffee they'll be lucky to get paid at this rate!

Naat · 12/06/2009 10:43

Silk oh my!! The nerve of these people!!! As
ermin said, don't you dare lift anything!! If they continue with this attitude and refuse to provide the service they're getting paid for, maybe you could call the company? Let us know how things go.
