I hope I've done this right - here is the new thread...and hopefully the last in ante-natal

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

morning all just checking in and pains died down overnight, so glad i have midwife appointment today can ask her what all these pains i have been having are and what they mean. Been up half the night with 'visitor' pains so going to speak to midwife about this too - like i said another week of pain and thought of labour with the piles is something I am absolutely dreading now - and I wasn't even worried about labour before

The photos of tee and mrtee's baby are so lovely he is such a gorgeous wee boy

Thinking of lynn and nemo today....and the loverly babies you will have by the end of the day

doris - gorgeous pictures - she looks a peaceful little girl.

erm - at burrowing out. Yours doesn't sound like it needs a signpost.

silk - unbelievable. I've roped in random workmen parked on the street to help me unload my car of plants or IKEA purchases etc. Just looked a bit helpless and explained my predicament and they've come to my aid. How atrocious that they would grumble. Not gentlemen at all!!!

naat - what did the BC say about your waters? Did they think it probably wasn't?

bunny - thanks - any sneezes with you?

mrsmcjnr - thinking of you

I had a second sweep yesterday at my Term+ appointment. bunny - I see your same appointment is called prolonguedpregnancy - it is funny the names they give these appointments for babies that 'go over'. How about 'soon be teenagers' appointments!!! Anyway, in two days my cervix has softened and dilated a bit more and moved posterior....so that is good news. june - the second one wasn't painful either, I had to put my hands under my buttocks and do a pelvis tilt so she could get good access to the cervix, but I actually thought it was lovely as she said she was touching the babies head and I got all emotional.

The odd thing is that after all these miscellaneous contractions and pain over the past month, I have had almost nothing in the past three days, and yet now stuff is happening - more sneezes in my knickers this morning, and lots of pressure etc. How odd.

Oh, we had curry last night and I had a big Gin & Tonic. All it did was send the baby to sleep for the next 12 hours. It did mean I got 8 hours sleep, the first time in over a month, but I was worried that I might be sending the LO to the Priory shortly after birth!

The doctor refused to agree to an induction any later than next Tuesday, so I have four days to encourage this one to come out. DP is insisting he will cancel his trip to London which is really a huge shame. It's hard to explain how important this all was/is. Three separate events, a v. important presentation to a big group of people 2 years in the making, the sealing of a deal he has worked a year on and a dinner with someone who may offer him a job and give us a more exciting solid future. I think I am more pi__sed off than he is, although he just has a 'resigned to my fate' look about him and insisting he stay but I want him to go.

How do I tell the baby to come tonight. Have a long walk planned this evening. I wonder if I could starve him out, make conditions so unpleasant????!!!!!

LittleSarah · 12/06/2009 11:35

Gorgeous photos from Doris - what a cutie!

Congratulations to tee on baby Adam, that is fab news!

And congrats to blueberry, again wonderful news!

Good luck to llynnn and daisy, you girls will have babies soooo soon!

Sorry not to catch up with everyone else, just very tired and busy over here! Got four sets of visitors today, first lot due any minute! One is my mum which doesn't really count but still...

Dh has been totally amazing, getting up with dd, cooking, cleaning and generally being a star. Honestly when he goes back to work I'm slightly concerned I will fall apart!

Alexander very well, still feeding like a fiend and it still hurts a lot on the right side, I'm trying different positions to improve latch but it's a struggle.

Beautiful day here, I hope you guys are getting the same!

Hopefully I will be around more, and posting better, soon!

daisy5 · 12/06/2009 16:09

It's very quiet on here. Is everyone off having babies?

bunnymother · 12/06/2009 16:16

Afternoon ladies!

Back from my prolongued pregnancy appointment. Some of it was hilarious - weigh me, scan baby and hey presto announce "abracadabra, 92% chance she will arrive by spontaneous labour in the next 7-10 days". Not 93%, then? Apparently LO is perfectly healthy and weighs 8lb 6oz, which is average (seems a bit big for average to me!). I was also "swept", resulting in a bloody show (charming!! Apologies for TMI!). Must say that I wouldn't opt for a sweep as a fun way to pass the time, but it was OK. Daisy, I also felt v emotional and excited as the midwife could feel baby's head! She also said my waters are "bulging" and I am 1cm dilated - please let her arrive soon! Booked for induction on Thursday just in case the sweep hasn't worked, although am back in on Tuesday for another. If I am induced, no birthing centre for me!

Daisy - oh, I really feel for you w your DH's work - what a bind!! I can totally understand how important next week is for you both, but how to lure your baby out?? More curry? I have my fingers crossed for you. Can you refuse to be induced? At my hospital you can, they just put you onto twice weekly monitoring. Then perhaps once your DH has come back from his trip, assuming its relatively short, change your mind about induction and say now you want it? Apologies if I sound horrifically cavalier, but my induction is on Thurs and I was due the day before you... Although of course I am not a Dr and should not suggest things that run counter to professional advice

June - you are not the only one worrying about life w a new baby! I have been watching youtube.com at how to bathe and change babies! Although bet when you hold your LO your instincts take over and many things come naturally.

Silk - love your mum's advice on running commentary - fits entirely w my thinking of respecting and interacting your baby, and am sure that The Baby Whisperer advocates the same thing. Makes perfect sense to me! What are these carpet fitters playing at, the swine! Am also at their attitude and mistaken idea of customer service - completely agree that you should hide the kettle and complain once they are gone. I would hate to have to deal w them!

Laura - you poor blossom, you really are having a tough time w these pains and unwelcome visitors! I hope you have the breeziest of labours and the most delicious of babies to make up for all this!

Naat - hi there! Was hoping your LO would have arrived overnight to fit in w your dates - hopefully this weekend!

LittleSarah - great to hear from you! So pleased that everything is going so well for you and that your DH is doing such a sterling job - don't you just love him all the more?!

Tee - how beautiful is little Adam?! What a chubby little darling - you must be thrilled! Hopefully his breathing improves v quickly and you can take your bundle home.

Loouise - excellent news that things are working out for you staying at your mum's - fantastic!

Hello there all you other lovely Juners - hope you are having nice Fridays w great weekends to look forward to.

silkcushion · 12/06/2009 16:24

I'm not off having babies.

I've spent all day putting furniture back and shifting things around when I really shouldn't have. In bloody agony now - silly silk. MrSilk will give me a bollocking when he gets home

At least the bedrooms look fabulous and lo has also been v v active today

Bunny - how on earth can they tell that level of information from weighing etc? Sounds like a load of rubbish to me. Any estimates to guess the weight of baby is usually inaccurate as well. Last time they said I was having a whopper. She was 7lb 8oz (bang on average)and I was full of fluid. Wee'd like racehorse for 4 days post delivery and had then lost all the baby weight bar 3lbs. It will be a miracle if I can replicate that.

Sounds like yr sweep is maybe getting things going for you though. fingers crossed.

Off to pick up dd now - I'll have a quick peek back later to see if we've any new arrivals

bunnymother · 12/06/2009 17:15

Oh God! I wrote a post, then MN seems to have fallen over and it all got lost! And it was the most wonderfully witty, intelligent post .

Silk - I know - "Bunny, since you have put on 20 kg (OMG!!! ), and your baby weighs X and has good blood flow etc, your chances are 92%". How do you disprove those numbers?? . I have only ever heard of them overestimating the baby's weight, too. They must freak out pregnant ladies all the time thinking they are going to have to deliver Godzilla, and then perfectly normal sized baby arrives! Am VERY VERY cheered to hear that your baby weight went v quickly and will be delighted if I am so lucky! God knows I am so waterlogged that 'twill be like a damn bursting - my feet, ankles, calves (am also channelling Princess Fiona from Shrek), hands, wrists and God knows what else. [unimpressed emoticon]

Now, who knows how to get rid of stretchmarks? I was almost in tears about mine last night, even though DH said they aren't stretchmarks but are love marks caused by our beautiful baby, and that's how he will always see them (could I love him any more???).

Naat · 12/06/2009 17:18

Silk, tut tut, naughty girl lifting and moving things... Have a rest now, please please please don't do anything else

Daisy, still with my fingers crossed for you so that baby decides to appear tonight! I understand how you feel, your DH has an important week next week. All the birthing vibes going your way so that LO comes ((hug)) Oh, the BC said not to worry, those were not my waters...

bunny, yay! a bloody show!! Hope that kicks things off!! So nice you heard about LO's head being right there!! I'd have shed a tear as well I'm still hoping LO might appear before midnight tonight

LittleS, glad to hear Alex is feeding well, hope you manage to solve the right side so that it doesn't hurt anymore.

Laura, hope the appt went well!

Lots of movements and pressure down there, ctx and cramps but nothing regular so, the usual Let's get some babies out!!!

(((waves)))

Naat · 12/06/2009 17:20

Bunny, what a lovely thing your DH said re. stretchmarks!!!

bunnymother · 12/06/2009 17:36

Naat - I agree, I was really moved. I think DH is a dreamboat - am soo lucky to have met and married him!

Nemoandthefishes · 12/06/2009 17:38

arghh dont knwo why but am in an absolute panic..maybe its the knowing whats coming or could just be the build up of having waited all day.....feel like crying

bunnymother · 12/06/2009 17:43

Nemo - you poor thing, it will be OK. Take some deep breaths. Do you have a hypnobirthing CD? I find that VERY calming, esp when the lady explains how natural childbirth is, that our bodies know what to do and that relaxing, taking deep regular breaths and feeling confident in your body's ability allows it to work more effectively.

Naat · 12/06/2009 17:51

Oh Nemo you poor lamb! Don't panic, it's obviously an emotional day and these last hours are sort of a built-up, but just think about the fact that you'll be holding your tiny little baby in no time! Bunny's idea of taking deep breaths and trying to relax and feel confident is very good. Try it and of course do come back if you need to vent or any support (((hug)))

ermintrude13 · 12/06/2009 17:58

bunny that is a lovely thing for your DH to say, and good job too, cos there ain't a thing you can do about stretch marks except wait for them to fade to white over the years. I haven't had any so far - DH says it's because there was quite a bit of slack to take up . So your DH wins hands down on the scale of lovely husbandliness

Nemo of course you're feeling the pressure. Try to take each moment as it comes and only think as far ahead as the moment you hold your LO. Everything will sort itself out and your older DC will adore their little sibling. Not saying it won't be hard work, but you'll cope. bunny's breathing ideas are good advice. We'll be thinking of you xx

Silk I'm joining Naat in telling you off for moving furniture. You remind me of my nan, who is forever shifting her sitting room furniture around. (Although she's 87 and has arthritis, so the similarities end with the furniture thing )

bigcar · 12/06/2009 18:32

afternoon all

tee, huge congratulations and welcome to baby Adam! Hope his visit to neonatal is a short one and you get home soon

doris, gorgeous photos, your girls are lovely Hope you're managing some sleep now!

effie, so pleased things are going well for Rupert and that things are slowly going back to normal.

lynn, thinking of you

nemo, all the very best for this evening! I'm sure once you get there everything will calm down, the waiting is the worst bit, you'll be holding your lo before you know it

naat, happy dday! With a bit of luck your lo will put in an appearance later today. A friend of mine wanted her first lo to arrive on her first wedding anniversary, we were all quite when he did

loooouise, so glad you're getting on well back at home, how was the reflexology?

silk, tut, tut, anyone would think you were trying to encourage your lo out Make sure you have a restful evening, NO MORE LIFTING!

bunny, just to be different, they really underestimated my los weight! At my last scan, his weight was 7lb 12oz, two weeks later, he was born 9lb 8oz, there's no way he put on that much weight in 2 weeks 92% is a very good number

daisy, I really hope your lo turns up this weekend

littlesarah, good to hear the bf is going well, hope that right side sorts out soon. My dh is going back to work on monday and I am slightly worried as he's done all the fetching and carrying for the last 2 weeks and I've barely lifted a finger! I think it's the not being able to drive that is worrying me most as we now live a 3 mile round trip from the school and I'm not convinced the spd has gone. Oh well, I suppose at least it will be good exercise!

Edward's had sooooo many pooey nappies today, it's hard to believe something so small can make such a big mess so quickly Good job I remembered to buy more nappies today! He's still feeding really well thankfully and I'm loving all the cuddles. Make the most of them while they are little ladies, they grow up way too quickly

hope to hear plenty of baby arriving news over the weekend! Waves to all

chocciedooby · 12/06/2009 19:27

Hi everyone. Sorry have not been keeping up with the thread. Internet was down all day and it was also a busy day running the kids backwards and forwards to birthday parties etc.

June - I have bought DH boring Fathers day gifts - trouser hanger from M & S, a book light, large bar of choc, and some cuff links....all form the kids of course

As some one else said about the books on parenting, playing with los etc. A lot of it will come naturally and easily and newborns really dont do much for a while. I also agree with taling as much as possible to los. I have done this with both DS's and they are both mini chatterboxes .

I used Sudcrem on dc's and found it great but not on very newborn. They really don't seem to need anything. The sudocrem is great if you think they are getting a rash and I found good old vaseline great for putting in the creases of their legs to keep things from drying out.

Will have to check back on other posts to see what other questions you had, sorry.

Nemo - good luck with your induction

Tee - Love your sons name! Well done you and I'm sure Adam will be out of the care unit very soon for lots of mummy and daddy hugs and kisses.

Naat - hows it going? Happy due date Lets hope things start moving for you soon. Exciting times

chocciedooby · 12/06/2009 19:37

June - Cord Care - I used cool boiled water and cotton wool for ds's. I did have problems with DS1s cord getting very badly infected after hospital but it was not normal and I will never know how it happened so please don't let this one off scare you.It was also cleared up wihtin days of using a special cream

Silk - Naughty naughty you moving furniture around . Those carpet men sound like they were complete idiots! How could they be so rude???Whatever happened to some good old fashioned customer care, a smile etc????

laura - I am so sorry to hear you are still suffering....It did take me a week to get better from "friends" but then it was all over. I do hope they are gone soon (((hugs))).

chocciedooby · 12/06/2009 19:46

Well my day was busy again. I had my OB appt (last one before due date) this morning and was disappointed when he told me that he is actually away next Wed,Thursday and Fri
I had a suspicion of this weeks ago and when I asked the secreatry I was told "No not all, all he is here". I know none of us know exactly when our babies will arrive but I wish they had been up front with me. I feel silly saying this but when you are paying a lot of money to have a private Dr at your birth you really expect him to be there under most circumstances. I now feel a bit let down and scared of the stand in dr. My dr was brilliant before when it came to aftercare, stitches etc. Thats why I have gone to him for the 3rd time.

Bottom line is - I want to have this baby this weekend or next weekend and not inbetween for fear of the unknown

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 12/06/2009 20:57

Oh chocci- take heart with the fact that going on curent arrival dates for babies on this thread you he should be back in time to deliver you more seriously I can completely understand why you are disappointed, but don't get too worried about what may never happen.

Nemo- bit late but good luck for tonight!! will be thinking of you...

Silk- you ARE very naughty, you need to rest as sod's law says that the more you do and more knackered you are means that LO wil think that's a perfect time to send you into labour!!!!

Bigcar- I can't believe I've had dh at home for a week already, feel like I've been tied to the sofa for most of it! and I'm beginning to get more worried about how I'm going to cope when he goes back to work... particularly with the pre-school run!!! (actually worried doesn't realy cover how I feel atm, although my mum said this evening they're looking at holidays and she has blocked the week off to make sure she's there for me awwwww!)

Bunny- my stretchmarks are known as tiger stripes, and like your dh my dh sees them as a badge of honour

I've had all the mn time Annabelle will allow and need to resume my place on the sofa (not as great as it sounds I was reduced to Jeremy Vile this morning as I could reach the remote control!!!!) and Little S I'm with you all the way with nips that are shredded (although my Left is worse than my right!) I'm dosing up with paracetamol etc just to make the latch easier, and it is happening just not as fast as I'd like.

Got to run

((((waves)))

Naat · 12/06/2009 21:36

Update from Tee's DH! (Took the liberty to put her nickname and not her name)

All is well with Tee, no issues. Diabetes is under control and she is able to walk ok. In order to get Adam back home three things need be to ok, 1) his breathing 2) blood sugar level and 3) feeding. He has an IV in his belly button and no food, only glucose via IV. Hopefully it will only take 3-5 days for his breathing to be fine.

Effielou · 12/06/2009 21:56

Hi All

Congrats Tee on baby Adam-- sending all the fab vibes and messages I had from everyone and MASSIVE ones from me!! He will be fine- but its the most scariest time ever. Lots of big cyber hugs and kisses. Adams baby cyber chum is sending his hugs to him as well. xxxxxxx

Hope all is well and inductions and due dates are exciting for you all-- your nearly there girls.

Rupert is even better today-- hes in a cot and out of the incubator- his oromorph has been reduced and hes tolerating feeds and trying more BF- so we are nearly there xxx

lots of love to you all xxxxxxxxxx

lauraloo09 · 12/06/2009 22:00

evening all hope everyone is ok.

Well mw appointment was horrid. baby is ok and induction date set for 2nd july please please pray i dont go 2 weeks over as DH can't change holidays and i'll be on my own with newborn straight away So bring on the curry, walks and sex to hurry this baby along - I dont like pineapple so unfortunately i can't have that

The mw gave me aromatherapy treatment for my horrid friends so fingers crossed it works. As she was making the 'potion' she left the room door open and there must have been another mw seeing someone and didn't bother to close their door too and i could hear her saying to the patient that she had miscarried it was the most horrid thing i have had to sit thro, eventually i closed the door to the room i was in, there was no privacy for the patient whatsoever. It all brought back the memories of the mw telling me that i was miscarrying back in october it was horrible

OP posts:
Effielou · 12/06/2009 22:00

Tried to see a pic of Tees baby but can'y find it but bet hes really gorgeous xx

daisy5 · 13/06/2009 07:00

Good morning ladies,

Woken by contractions this morning at 5.00 but I think they have stopped now and so back to being grumpy and tired.

laura - sorry to hear you are in pain. I have the same problem with dh and work. Both my last midwives have said 'raspberry tea', 'keep active' and 'sex' as the most important things to get things going. I hope your friends go soon

tee - I hope Adam makes all the progress needed and you are soon home with him.

choccie - I can see exactly what you mean. You don't really want the tension of worrying/wondering if the baby is going to come on any of those three days. If it is any consolation, all the dates that I thought I was coming on, it never happened!!!

bigcar - Edward sounds a healthy and happy chappy. You must be a bit of a parenting pro though I suspect

silk - step away from the furniture.... and you will not get hurt!!!

effielou - great news about Rupert's improvements.

littlesarah - your dh is being fab by the sounds of things. He reminded me a little of Lawrence Fox (actor) in the picture. Hope the visitor's didn't leave you too shattered!

bunny - I almost cried when I read what your dh had said . Don't pay any attention to what they say about weight. I have heard all kinds of stories. The last prediction, with private specialists was out by more than 2kg!!!! Thanks for your ideas re:induction. The problem is also that if the LO hasn't come by Monday evening, there would be such a high chance that it would come Tuesday or Wednesday that I doubt I could convince him to leave me.

doris - I became a Countdown fan during breastfeeding. It really does introduce you to the full spectrum of the television offering!!!!!!

june - I agree with erm - the great thing about playing with your baby is that this is where you get to be 'yourself' with 'your' sense of humour and fun. Books may give you some ideas, but just be creative and enjoy all the little silliness. Babies start to smile after just a week or two or three (my memory is fading) and it's great fun trying to coax those giggles out. Sit back and enjoy that part.

erm - thanks for induction thoughts. In some respects I am very happy to be induced as I am so worn out and at least know there is an end date. Also, I am so on the brink of giving birth, and my last birth was so quick, that can't help but feel it would go well.

Right, as contractions have definitely stopped, I'm crawling back to bed.

Naat · 13/06/2009 07:14

Daisy my fellow contractor Up since 2am here! Strong ctx, light ctx, strong ctx, light ctx This is so confusing! I finally got up at 6 and asked DH to have a shower with me as I was slightly fed up and almost teary... Bless him, he just got up and came with me

Hope you manage to get a few more hours of sleep before starting your day. Fingers super super crossed for you for LO to decide to arrive today

xxx
