I hope I've done this right - here is the new thread...and hopefully the last in ante-natal

Morning ladies!!

LittleSarah - your photos are beautiful, capturing such a special family time. I am feeling really hopeful that my (albeit hospital) labour will go as well - thank you for sharing. Little Alexander is a gorgeous little bundle, too - you must all be so very happy! Lynn is one of my friends, so perhaps you can find her that way?

Naat - so glad that LO didn't appear when MIL was around. Hopefully the day wasn't too horrendous, and she is gone now! [relief emoticon] Although am worried to hear birthing centre was full!! I was told "that almost NEVER happens" w ours, but am not convinced at all! [worried emoticon]

Bigcar - sounds like everything is humming along nicely w little Edward, too - think we are all hoping to have babies that sleep as soundly!

Daisy - I am also trying to keep our flat in order - do NOT want to go into labour and return to chaos... I can just imagine the shock that teenage neighbour is going to get when one v angry mummy (let's call her Daisy...) sweeps down on him in all her hormonal/territorial fury as he is waking her baby! Just read your latest post - hope you have your baby today!!

MrsMcJnr - ooh, cannot believe your neighbours know they have a v heavily pregnant lady they are disturbing and still keep on "swinging" [shudder] [shudder] Thanks for the extra tips on things for hospital - will pack sick bags and bin liner. Would not be great to pay £50 defoulment fee if sick/leak in taxi!

Thanks for the pointers on copying your notes if you want to keep them!

Lynn - how are you feeling this morning?

June - glad your appointment went well and that you aren't likely to go overdue. Its not great, to be honest. Have upped my water intake after reading your post...

Ermin - steak is the food of the gods, isn't it?

Effie - am thrilled for you at little Rupert's progress - that is just wonderful!!!

Ineed - lovely to hear that things are going so well w little Emily - enjoy your day today! Hope you find a good double buggy, and must be quite exciting registering her birth!

Despite being what I hope is fully / mostly unplugged, no baby and no real symptoms (a bit of cramping and backache, but not enough to be labour). Can't believe I was almost convinced I was having a full moon baby . But WHEN is she arriving?? Esp as, for the first time, her bladder punches last night were actually painful

  • don't be shy little one, we'd love to meet you!

How about Yasmina winning The Apprentice?! I think Kate is the better candidate, so was a bit shocked. More shocked, though, that she is dating that fool, Phillip. And after Yasmina has produced a dreadful food product twice, now, I would never eat at her restaurant. Query how well adviced a restauranter is appearing on a national show producing vile food?? My two pence worth!!

Tee2072 · 08/06/2009 08:30

Good morning all!

Had a good nights sleep, which was wonderful. Feel ready to do some nesting today, as nesting plans for yesterday turned into an all day lie in instead!

effie wishing you lots of baby snuggles.

bunny I agree about Apprentice. I was really surprised Kate didn't win.

june hope your MW is right!

mrsmcJ either report your neighbours...or wait until LO arrives and try to time crying incidents correctly

Everyone have a lovely day and lets have some more babies!!

silkcushion · 08/06/2009 09:23

morning all

definitely going to be more babies today I think - but not mine

Don't agree re the Apprentice I'm afraid - I think Yasmina deserved to win - she has business flair that Kate just doesn't have. Philip is exactly like my exH (looks and acts the same). Quite good looking and can be funny but also a total arsehole when he wants to be!!!

Off to fill the car with recycling and take it all to Tescos. Have to get out of the house as the cleaner is here.

ermintrude13 · 08/06/2009 09:54

Good morning all

Effie such good news about Rupert, that cuddle will have been worth waiting for. And well done for all the expressing

Daisy those cx sound promising, going back to bed is a good idea. Clue: If you fall asleep you're not in labour

LittleS what a cutie, love that yawn! Hope Alexander wakes up and performs for big sis soon. I keep reminding my DC that 'it' isn't going to be doing a great deal of interaction at first; I think they're envisaging a little monkey they can play with straight away!

Ineed I can't remember whether afterpains were worse with DC2 but hated them both times. Less the pain that the sensation that something was still in there - spooky! Paracetemol is OK to take for them isn't it?

llynnn, lauraloo, june and naat it sounds like things are happening for you ladies, fingers crossed they progress. I've had all sorts of strong BH, cramps and pressure down below, and threw up this morning again but it's not going to turn into anything for days if not weeks yet, I'm sure.

MrsMc those who are going into hospital have advised flip flops to wear in the showers too - not always the most hygenic places...

Hope everyone else is keeping their spirits up and not overdoing it.

daisy5 · 08/06/2009 10:10

Ineed - good question. My dd kept sucking on my boob long after it was empty (40-45mins) and I had absolutely no idea that this was happening. I did read later that a breast should on average empty in 15-20mins but that depends on how fast they suck and all mums are not the same. I was not actually producing quite enough milk which is why she kept 'hanging on' for more. In the end, I tried sticking to around 20mins per breast, kept a note of which breast she had finished on and how many minutes in, then would restart on that breast until hit 20mins. Other people may well have better ideas/experiences. I found it hard to know exactly.

bunny - yes, that did strike me as odd that such an exceptional restauranteur could produce food that got so many complaints!!! I thought they both were good project managers silk but did think Kate would win. Totally agree that Philip is really not up to much. Kate must be flooded with offers after the show?!

ermintrude - Contractions slowed around 3pm and I fell asleep. Back to constant BH today but nothing like last night. So back in limbo land. Sorry to hear about the throwing up. I almost did last night too, again.

See ya.

ermintrude13 · 08/06/2009 10:19

Ooh Ineed, just remembered your b/f question. Like daisy says, it's a bit of trial and error and not an exact science. DD would stay on one breast for ages, snoozing during feeding, then whinge till I stuck her on the other one, also for ages. Whereas DS would guzzle furiously for 10 mins and completely empty one side and then sleep. Then wake up and have the other one, which was by then v engorged! If this LO tries to hang on as long as DD s/he might be moved over, because really she was using it for comfort as well as food, but with my first I didn't dare move her off at first.

The important thing is to make sure they get the rich foremilk for calories and the lighter hindmilk for thirst, whether they feed from one or two sides, and I'd agree that the average for that would be about 15-20 mins. Also keep offering it regularly but don't worry if they don't always take it. The pair of you will get into the swing of it in no time

MrsMcJnr · 08/06/2009 10:20

Hey ladies am feeling a bit low this morning, feel like I am no good to man or beast at the moment I am so tired and cumbersome and have been short tempered with my lovely DS I hate the waiting game and though normally I am quite philosophical about being overdue, today I am just fed up ? when is my baby going to arrive?? how are all of you?

Insy ? I didn?t get after pains with DS but I did something to my back and I was in tears through the pain, it was worse than the labour, and lasted for 6 weeks, so hoping to be more careful this time!

Daisy ? early September will be lovely weather-wise try not to think about what your mw said too much. Interesting contractions hope they lead to something!!

Ineedmore ? glad to hear you got more sleep and that you have found some ways to counteract BFing niggles, I had a strong let down too and DS had a bad latch ? oh the joys hot flannels any help with reducing the space-hoopers? Enjoy your first jaunt into town ? let me know how you get on with your double buggy! it?s really hard to tell in the early days when a boob is empty (easier after several months when you could tell by the flaccidness of the boob ), I just let DS feed on the same one until he got fractious or clearly wasn?t getting any; they say that they are never really empty as such anyway.

I read an interesting thing the other day about BFing, it said that it is vital to watch the baby?s chin, if you see a pause at the point of the chin after he/she opens his mouth to the maximum and before he/she closes his/her mouth it proves they are drawing in milk, the longer the pause, the more they are taking.

Bunnymother ? bless, I know how you are feeling!!

Tee ? you sound on good form today enjoy the nesting.

Hey Silkcushion

Ermintrude ? yup, the shower flip flops are also in the hospital bag (as are DH?s!)

DS playing up, won?t have his nap which means I can?t have my shower yet and we need to be out in an hour feel like it might be a long day?.

LittleSarah · 08/06/2009 10:22

Morning all!

Dd back and lots of lovely cuddling brother time, will no doubt annoy you all with photos of that later!

Like Ineed my breasts are now massively engorged, slightly worried about getting blockages etc as ds sucks away and they seem to be staying huge! Ineed - With dd it was quite obvious when breasts had emptied, went from rock hard and huge to soft and more (sorry!) floppy... as I say that has yet to happen with ds but not sure milk is properly in yet.

ermin - Yes not really much to do with the wee man yet, cuddling is about it! (Poor dd ot liking the crying, or the poo)

daisy - I hope this is finally it for you! Can't believe pregnancy and labour is over for me, dh says it is really strange hugging me now with no bump.

Effie - Fab news about Rupert! I'm so pleased things are getting better for you guys!

Insy and Ineed - Eeek about the after pains eh? I was going to ask dreamy and bigcar what theirs were like after having a few more babies than we have managed so far!

I thought Kate would win at first on the Apprentice but then changed my mind during boardroom when I think Yasmina sold herself very well. Can't believe Kate and Philip though!! Hideous!

Right, off to the beach, but stopping first at Mothercare, need some more bits!

dreamydowler · 08/06/2009 10:25

morning ladies Im still hanging on too although my due date isnt for another week yet so can hardly grumble yet. everyone back to school today so just me and dd age 2 at home which is nice. going to have a quick tidy round to try and keep on top of things and active and maybe take dd to the park for an hour hope we see some more babies soon

roseability · 08/06/2009 11:04

MrsMcJnr - I too am feeling low and teary today. I am 39 + 4 so not even at my due date yet, but my DS was born on 39 + 4 so I am a but disheartened. I am struggling to get through the day with my active 3 year old but at least he has playgroup this afternoon.

So I had two curries this wkend and sex . Last night I was woken by what can only be described as a contraction. I really thought 'this is it' and almost woke DH. I waited for the next contraction but it never came. I did have uncomfortable lower back ache for a while, which kept me awake. I have been having these pains in the night for 2 weeks now and I am exhausted. I am so drained physically and emotionally that it is distracting me from the excitement of the fact that I will meet my little one soon. I presume I will forget all this bit once baby is born!

Hope we have some more babies today

lauraloo09 · 08/06/2009 11:19

morning all - still no baby here and cramps have eased off now Going to take junes advice and go for a long walk today to keep active, and clean my house, and i have already upped my intake of water

daisy shame cx eased off last night, i'm sure it will happen any day for you now x

tee you must be getting excited only 2 days (not including today) to go until your cs! hope you enjoy your nesting!

littlesarah poor dd not enjoying the crying and poo she'll get used to it

mrsmcjnr sorry to hear your feeling low, hopefully you'll feel better soon x

daisy5 · 08/06/2009 11:27

mrsmcjnr - my dd is at nursery this morning and I am still trying to complete my final photography assignment so nipping in to Mumsnet for occasional break. Still very sore and achy from last night.

Just wanted to say, I'm a cranky mum at the moment too, and feel so bad sometimes when she tells me how much she loves me . I can't play any active games or run with her and have to stop and rest. I bet you are a wonderful mother, we just have some moments when we are not our flash-est!!!! I hope some lovely things happen to make you feel better but as you know, it is most probably your hormones playing havoc with your body. Oh, and once we have bubba they will go a little crazy again won't they!! ahhhh!

laura and roseability - yes, too many cramps and pains are tiring aren't they.

daisy5 · 08/06/2009 11:28

mrsmcjnr - I mean, once we have bubba, our hormones will go crazy again.

Nemoandthefishes · 08/06/2009 11:29

morning all
another fed up waddler here..having false cx at the minute as I took trio to school and nursery then decided to go to shops to buy the girls a doll each for when baby is born and get some last minute things like sunshades for the car and a couple of baby hats. Someone in home bargains actually asked if I was going to go in to labour as I started to sweat with the pain!!
Not sleeping and just feel like crying all the time..sigh At least have consultants appointment and am praying he gives me induction date for the end of the week xxx

June2009 · 08/06/2009 11:30

Just checking in, still pregnant :D
Are we considered overdue the minute we go past the "due date"?

Thanks for the info re: notes, I'll photocopy them today.

daisy, naat and everybody else contracting ;) : I hope the LO's don't make us wait tooo much longer!

mrsmc and the others feeling down, the wait is quite debilitating isn't it, like being stuck in a twilight.
I go from being excited to quite low (that's been the main theme in my pregnancy).
I hope your mood lifts up today, I usually read/make notes about labour or how to care for babies, it keeps me occupied.
Or dh and I have a game of poker on facebook to keep my mind off it all

I really try and visualise when the baby will be here and how to handle her and what to do with her step by step.
I have taken every new baby accessory/toy out of their boxes, set up the changing table as if I was about to change a nappy and forcing dh to set up the baby seat today.

Have you guys got mirrors set up in the car so you can see the baby in the rear-facing seat? They sell them in Hallfords apparently and the car safety workshop guy recommended them (not go them yet.)

We keep getting phone calls/text/fb messages/emails asking whether the baby is here, I can't decide if it's nice or irritating.

littleSarah Lovely pictures :D I hope you're ok.
It's really comforting to hear yours, bigcar and ineed's birth and breastfeeding stories.
So far the only person from my AN group who has given birth has "had problems" and had to switch to formula.
I have not looked at formula at all so bf had better work out for me!

Did Doris get a chance to post after her birth? I'm afraid I have lost all ability to catch up properly with our thread!

Effie fantastic news about Ruppert being off the ventilator, I really hope you can take him home quickly and this can all be a distant memory.
(Did I mention dh and I were both 3 weeks/a month premature and kept in hospital for three weeks with various problems? We never had any after-effects.)

silk I make a list of other things we neeeed everyday.
On my list today: pampers nappy changing mats, it took dh a little while to understand that they are for me to put in the car in case my waters break .

Well I guess I could always do some work, whatever I do now is something less to stress about fitting in around nappy changes, I should probably be thankful for the extra time.

No doubt I'll be back checking in on the thread every half an hour today!

Take care juners!

ermintrude13 · 08/06/2009 11:38

June most babies are born between 38 and 42 wks, so although you're past your 'due date' after 40 wks that's why they usually give it another 2 wks before inducing.

chocciedooby · 08/06/2009 12:13

Just checking in.
Rubbish nights sleep here. Toilet trip every hour all night long and lo was sticking its feet and hands out all over the place!

My nesting has ended just as I thought. I couldn't find enough things to do/clean yesterday. I have spent all of this morning sitting with my feet up!I actually don't look like Shrek for the first time in weeks.

DH was mulling over all the different times last night that I could go into labour. He is really concerned if it starts around 5pm ish and he is stuck in town in peak traffic and I am at home with the boys. It was decided that I would beg a neighbour (if I couldn't get MIL) to take the boys and then order myself an ambulance. The anxiety of it all is setting in again.

Nemo, Roseability and Daisy - sounds like you wont be long now.

Mrsmc - Sorry to hear you are feeling down. I am on a rollercoaster of emotions as well. Maybe another walk along the beach will help lift your spirits?! Hope you feel better soon.

June try not to worry too much about going overdue.1st babies often do that. The little Minxs

Enjoy your walk Lauraloo. Effie - greast to hear little Rupert is off the ventilator. Hope you get that much longed for cuddle soon

Hi Ermin, Tee and everyone else.

Going to have a quick tidy upstairs now as feel like a lazy moo today.

lauraloo09 · 08/06/2009 12:26

oh cramping has came on again but i know it wont lead to something

Come on babies lets make an appearance soon

OP posts:
daisy5 · 08/06/2009 12:36

me too laura - this permanent cramping just aches and aches.

lauraloo09 · 08/06/2009 12:38

daisy it's a total pain in backside all these cramps and twinges def think these babies are playing mind games with us!

OP posts:
silkcushion · 08/06/2009 13:02

I'm joining you all in feeling a bit bloody miserable and disheartened (I'm not normally such a misery sorry)

Not really having any signs yet either. Baby felt like she was burrowing down when I was in bed last night but no cx.

Am actually feeling fed up. The house couldn't be more organised. The washing and ironing is all done. my task list is all ticked off nicely. Dd is in nursery - I could get her early and spend the afternoon doing something nice but feel too miserable and don't want her to have a crap afternoon too

Someone kick me up the backside please and tell me to get over myself (I'm only 38 + 3 so have no right to grumble)

lauraloo09 · 08/06/2009 13:06

silk i feel exactly the same as you so going to try and go for a walk to cheer up...I am also 38+3 so like you a feel terrible complaining esp when there are overdue ladies here but every twinge and cramp feels like it will start and when it doesn't i just feel low

OP posts:
silkcushion · 08/06/2009 13:08

you're probably right Laura - getting out in the fresha ir for a walk would be good for lifting our moods

loooouise · 08/06/2009 13:35

Hi girls, just registering my misery with yours

What with late babies and fascist nationalist thugs winning seats in parliament, it's a rubbish day! (and I'm in bloody Yorkshire too, am usually proud of my Northern roots, but not today...)

39 + 1 today and very similar symptoms to daisy rose and laura.

Sorry you're feeling crap june and mrsmcjnr, sending you +ive vibes.

Lovely photos LittleS (Alexander is gorgeous, but more maddeningly, so are you!)

Wonderful news from Effie.

Babyfather and I have finally cracked the names, am so relieved that he likes my choices. I'm actually quite looking forward to seeing him on the post-natal ward, he's clearly very excited.

Also, an old schoolfriend is unexpectedly in town so tonight I am going out for a drink! Woo-hoo!

insywinsyspider · 08/06/2009 13:51

bunny I was also surprised at Yasmina winning the apprentice ? although I think Kate dating Phillip might show her lack of judgement!

ineed enjoy your first trip out with double buggy fwiw and what I can remember I don?t think I ever knew I?d emptied a boob, ds would either just come off and finish (went from hungry sucks where you can see him swallowing ? just behind his ears ? to lazy comfort sucks) or if he got frustrated I?d put him on the other boob as well. You just need to have confidence they are getting everything they need I think, all seems very hazey now I think about it

mrsmcj I can completely empathise with being tired and cumbersome, dh has been working on boys sleeping till 7am and they are now going 7-7 which is fantastic (not necessarily asleep but happy to stay in bed) but I?m up and down in night like a yo-yo, I slept for about 3 hours and tossed and turned the rest of the night ? feeling very short tempered today, ds?s asleep and I should be sleeping but can?t settle and I?m not even over due!! You are not alone, this time is exhausting

june I have one of those mirrors, found it very reassuring, although sometimes just put ds?s in the front seat as we can turn the air bag off, found it less distracting to be able to peak at them rather than crane neck to look in mirror (and sometimes stuff dummy back in )

silk and laura I?m 38+4 today and will join you in the grumbling corner, I have no twinges what so ever though, just feeling fed up!

I?m just about to sit down and put some notes down for my birth plan on the back of my maternity notes, what has everyone done/decided about 3rd stage? I?ve had 2 managed 3rd stages but now wondering about natural 3rd stage I just don?t really understand pro?s and con?s
