What's happened to all the lovely weather? Maybe these babies are staying put till the sun makes a return

Tee2072 · 07/06/2009 18:31

He's gorgeous littlesarah!!

daisy5 · 07/06/2009 18:32

Hello all,

littlesarah - I love your story. That is a lovely homebirth story and what a nice start to life for little Alexander. I laughed when you mentioned getting Mike to do the dishes. I am religiously doing the dishes and tidying the kitchen every night, and charging my mobile and camera etc, so everything is 'in order'. This is not like me, I usually let my mobile run flat before bothering to charge it. I'm pleased you got the midwives you wanted and it all went so well. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your story.

naat - you are having very long and regular contractions. Your body sounds like it is getting nice and ready for some action at some stage soon.

Ineed - as I have a girl and am expecting a boy, I too got sentimental over the clothes, sad they will not be worn again. Some clothes really seem like a part of my daughter and she wore them on particularly special or fun occasions etc. Hope your lovely girl is continuing to do well.

mrsmcjnr - to your inconsiderate neighbours. We have a teenager two doors down who plays drums (loud ones) in the middle of summer with the windows open, so I imagine I am going to have to have words at some stage as I struggle to see how LO could afternoon nap during that! Night time much worse though, so thank goodness it is quite quiet here at night. Poor you honey. I hope you get some sign of action soon.

choccie - hi ya. Yes, you are right, sometimes blackberry's () are a necessary evil.

june - I photocopied my notes beforehand and in hospital kept a little notebook for contractions and to write up their version of the birth story before leaving hospital as they retain notes. I could have asked for a copy afterwards but it takes time and costs and it seemed easier to do it this way. It is nice having the copy, as I've referred to it this time around, and shall leave it in DD's special box for when she is older. Also, when she has children, she may like to refer to it. They always ask questions about mother's pregnancy don't they, and my mother could barely remember.

I wasn't on this morning as for the first time in 3 weeks I slept in till 8.45am!!!!! I couldn't believe it and it was so nice. We went to the park for a swing and a scooter before Sunday roast lunch at a pub. Home and another 2 hour nap, so feeling well rested.

Nothing happening with me - no signs at all. Very quiet - and very few movements....if it gets any quieter I might go in tomorrow for them to check all ok. Seems very odd after the hyperactive day last Thursday when he went beserk. I did ring the midwife about that episode but she didn't seem concerned at all.

daisy5 · 07/06/2009 18:33

hi bigcar , envious you have your lovely baby to cuddle.

dreamydowler · 07/06/2009 18:33

aaawww hes so gorgeous and you look amazingly good considering you had just given birth there is soo much to be said for home births

lauraloo09 · 07/06/2009 18:34

littlesarah your photos are lovely and what a gorgeous boy you have x

OP posts:
bigcar · 07/06/2009 18:44

littlesarah, lovely pics, what a gorgeous young man you have there

june, I didn't get my notes back when I went into hospital, so if you want a copy, I would do it now. You would think they would want everything kept together, but I had green pregnancy notes, yellow birth notes and purple postnatal notes. It's only the purple ones that came home with me.

ermintrude13 · 07/06/2009 18:57

LittleS of course meant to add that I hope your DD is thrilled with her new little bro too

llynnnn · 07/06/2009 19:05

Hi all

Littlesarah - fantastic birth story, thank you for posting it for us all to read. Your pictures are just gorgeous, Alexander is perfect!

June -thanks for finding me on facebook! Also, i brought my maternity notes from dd home but when the midwife care ended and i was passed over to the hv she took away my notes. i was a bit disapointed as i didnt realise they would take them!

Naat - sorry about your other false alarm, it WILL happen one of these times!!

Mrsmcjnr - hope you get a better nights sleep tonight, how awful for you!! hope your ds manages to sleep through it, that would make it all 20 times worse!!

Bigcar - hope your dd gets on well at nursery!

Tee - hope you manage to find a comfortable position to avoid nasty pregnancy symptoms! not long to go now!

Well, i've been having some pains for most of the day, started with period pain cramping this morning, then this afternoon i've had what i think are some irregular contractions??? not sure though, they are like a crampy feeling in my lower back, and lower bump that come quite gentle, get stronger over the next 30seconds or so then fade and go?? does that sound right?? they are really irregular at the mo though so not getting too excited!!
plus i really want to watch the apprentice final first so hope baby holds on for another few hours lol!!

i'll keep you informed!! hope everyone else is well

lauraloo09 · 07/06/2009 20:17

evening all how are you all doing?

Well for the past hour or so I have had no major cramps just niggles and tightenings as usual but i am constantly going for a wee, I have been around 5/6 times in the past hour, last time i went (2mins ago) there was a tiny amount of mucus but not getting hopes up of anything starting. But even going to loo 2 mins ago i feel like i need to go again!!

I am going to eventually try and catch up but after no sleep last night not sure how much my brain will take in!

OP posts:
LittleSarah · 07/06/2009 20:20

Hello all

Going to try and catch up with you all while the wee man naps!

llynnn - (Where are you on facebook, I had a wee look for you but wasn't sure if I had the right lass). I'll be watching the Apprentice later too, but if you're labour kicks off properly that it definitely the best option!

Ermin - Dd is pleased but he was asleep for the whole time she was here yesterday so she got rather bored! It'll be nice to get her back tomorrow morning and we can all spend the day together.

I wonder how things will be when milk comes through, probably tomorrow. Planning an afternoon out with dh, dd, ds(!) and my sister. I just don't remember weepiness last time but I have a feeling I will really feel it this time, have been feeling quite emotional already!

People do seem to think I now have the 'set' with a boy and a girl, it's funny! I know in an ideal world dh and I would like at least four so we'll definitely be seeing some raised eyebrows next time I'm sure!

Daisy - Girls' clothes seem so much cuter to me now I have my boy. I think back to the boys' stuff I saw when pregnant and they just don't seem to have such a good selection! I think not getting dishes and washing done before bed should almost have been a clue baby was coming as I have been very good at keeping on top of that recently like you.

Bigcar - Good luck to your dd in nursery, my dd is starting school in August and I cannot wait. Got her induction on Thursday and will be getting uniform which should be fab!

Tee - Yay to the Apprentice final!

Choccie - I too cleaned out food cupboards before baby arrived, in fact all the kitchen cupboards, it still makes me smile.

Naat - You poor lamb with all your false starts, that must be very frustrating! I'm sure it means that things are getting ready in there though so fingers' crossed.

Silk and June - You girls are doing some great nesting, well done!

Dreamy - Glad to hear your dd's 18th went so well, what an exciting moment for you all!

Ineed - I'm not surprised you're having to readjust to having a girl when it seemed so certain she would be a ds! I think if this one had been a girl I would have experienced similar feelings as we were so sure of having a boy. Glad to hear the milk is in, mine is on the way I think! I read your post earlier and was wishing someone would give us a few bags of clothes and then my mum said one of her friends has a couple of bags for us!

MrsMcJNr - Your neighbours sound horrendous! Thoughtless, inconsiderate arses! I hope at least you get your baby soon to help some!

I have a good game for those with babies, (so basically for everyone over the next month!); listing what you have learnt that you did not previously know about babies/birth/etc...

Things I'm learning that I did not know/experience last time:

As soon as you take off a boy's nappy he pees all over everything!
It is also far more of a faff cleaning around the male genitalia!
After pains exist and are extremely unpleasant.
Some babies feed for more than 20 minutes at a time and sometimes for up to an hour, no matter how tired you are, no matter that it is 4.30am and they already fed for half an hour at 3am..
Your baby can look like every close relation except you. (Or so they say).
Latching on can be incredibly painful.

That's it for now...

...Except I forgot to mention in my birth story that I actually only had one midwife as the second didn't actually have time to get there! The first was trying to contact her when she saw me starting to push!

June2009 · 07/06/2009 20:26

catching up quickly before i try and get some rest.

mw app. went ok, she couldnt hear the heartbeat properly so sent me to labour ward on the heart monitor thingy for half an hour.
The doctor who saw me after said "you can tell the midwife upstairs the baby is happier than her." so everything is ok.

The mw down in labour ward said I have an "active womb" and fairly regular braxton hicks, 1 every 5 minutes.
She also made an appointment for next sunday and said they'd do a membrane sweep then but also said "you're not going to make it to sunday, not going to go overdue".
There is still hope for tonight then!

They said the ward was v. busy yesterday when I asked about tonight's full moon and were they expecting it to be busier tonight (they laughed at that suggestion).

Dh asked about eating curry and she said that was rubbish but she advised to keep active and drink lots of water (like 3l a day).
Oh well I don't like curries much anyway but we bought 2 pineapples yesterday and dh has been forcefeeding me them since then! They have to be eaten and they are very nice :D

I feel like I need to sleep now, should be getting up for the final of the apprentice and I can catch up properly with our thread after that!

Take care!

LittleSarah · 07/06/2009 20:42

Yay June!

Have put up a couple more photos as we have eyes open for once!

lauraloo09 · 07/06/2009 20:52

june thats good that everything is well and that they believe you wont go over

I am hoping that all the walking and keeping active will help me, also been taking a lot of water recently so fingers crossed. Just taken a raspberry leaf capsual and BH and cramps has started again but i know it wont lead to anything...

All you juners watching the apprentice i hope you enjoy the final and any potential babies wait till after final to arrive , this is the first series that I have not been watching

Hey ladies back after a long walk along the seafront with DS and DH. DS was on reins and loved walking along with his Dad. It seems like yesterday that he was a newborn. Time goes so fast!

Snowwombat ? sounds like you need to try Ermintrude?s stair trick, I?ll let her fill you in have fun sewing those sheets

Happy due date June it?s like everyone forgetting your birthday when it comes and goes without your baby isn?t it?! I copied all the pages I wanted to keep from my pregnancy notes before I went into labour, glad I did as I didn?t see them again. I did write and ask my consultant for a copy of my labour and birth notes so that I had the full picture from DS?s birth and they sent them to me without any issues. DH put the ?buggy hut? up but is now stressing saying that it is not insured and is worried that someone will nick our buggy from it. I really don?t want to have to drag the buggy folded up into the house and leave it in the hall, it looks so horrible but I would die if it was nicked, dilemmas, dilemmas. Sounds like a bit of drama followed by some good news at the MW appointment, glad to hear all is well. Thanks for reminding me to drink water!!

Silkcushion ? thanks for the back up on calling the police we also have municipal rules here about noise after midnight so hopefully it won?t happen again but if it does?.. we still have to go and talk to them or else it will happen again but they haven?t surfaced yet today! Sounds like delegation nesting going on with you, I love it

Looouise ? hello you

Tee ? hey there

Choccie ? so right what you say every evening the baby doesn?t arrive I think ?what do I really want to get done now instead of in 8 weeks time?? and even that is optimistic if DS?s early days are anything to go by!!

Naat ? can?t believe all that action came to nothing how annoying for you but maybe the baby is waiting until there is space at the birthing centre!!

Ermintrude ? you were tempting the hands of fate with that drive glad you enjoyed your steak!

Hi Laura Sounds like you baby?s head is very low!

Littlesarah ? gorgeous photos lovely to see the shawl already in use too was your DD at home too for the big event?? What does she make of her big sis kit? LOL at your list of things you didn?t know, DS was always peeing in my face in the beginning and he was a suckler, I?d be there for hours and hours with him.
.
Bigcar ? what a star Edward is! I remember the first time DS slept for more than 5 hours, I felt like I was on some kind of exhilarating drug but then again that was after weeks, and weeks and weeks of 2 hour sleeps at a time

Daisy ? LOL you sound like me, every night before I go to bed I arrange things in case I don?t see the morning, sounds morbid but you know what I mean your day sounded lovely, maybe your baby is just having a long nap before his arrival do go for a check though if you are worried about the lack of movements. I wrote a diary throughout my pregnancy with DS and have tried to this time too although I haven?t written as much. The day after DS was born I wrote the birth story out in full and I am so glad I did, it?s amazing what you forget!

Llynnnn ? luckily DS?s bedroom is on the other side of the flat so he slept through it all last night, thank goodness, as you say! I think I am getting similar ?sensations? to you, not pains exactly but movements that feel different to previous ones. My lower back is really aching but that could be because I have spent so long on my feet in the kitchen tonight, silly girl. All the very best for tomorrow

Hope tonight?s the night for someone!!

Effielou · 07/06/2009 22:00

Hi ALL

Huge congrats to All the popped mummies and daddies- and hopefully some of you are beginning to pop soon.

Sorry if I'm a bit vague at the mo- but my heads a bit like cotton wool-- with mashed potato as well.

Well the good news is RUPERT IS OFF HIS VENTILATOR!!!yipppppeeeeeeee . Over the last 48 hours he has got better and better. He is now in ambient Oxgyen ( where it circulates in his incubator) and as long as his blood tests remain stable- he will be starting feeds at 5ml an hour- and hopefully I will get my first cuddle soon. He may have to go on nasal cpap- which is a type of ventilation- where it just helps push out the lungs and just aids him a little. He was in 33% oxygen when we left and they need him to breathe n air-- which is 21% so not far to go.

I am soooooooooo grateful to you all for all the lovely messages and my status feeds getting to you-- Its really helped in this tough time. xxx love you all.

Off to produce some more "home brew" and hopefully he will be taking it from source soon xxxx

Good luck to all you juners xxxx PUSHHHHHHHH!!!!!

lauraloo09 · 07/06/2009 22:03

effie thats wonderful news about rupert being off the ventilator here's hoping you'll get a cuddle soon still thinking of you, family and of course lovely baby rupert sending love and hugs xx

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 07/06/2009 22:13

Effie - that is fabulous news so hope that that cuddle isn't far away

Just had 3 thoughts when I was in the bath:

  1. make sure I put bin liners, thick bath mat, sick/nappy bags and a loo roll in the car in case my waters go or I am sick on the way to hospital

2)wear flip flops to hospital, my shoes got ruined last time by my waters breaking as I opened the door to the labour ward

  1. should I lay out an outfit to wear? decided that was a step too far
insywinsyspider · 07/06/2009 22:27

littlesarah fab story, lovely to hear it all went well, after pains are said to get worse with each baby mine were horrible both times so not looking good, and you?re reminded me of boys peeing! I?d forgotten that, you?re right every time you take their nappy off and usually over their clothes!

june mw kept my previous notes, was told this time to photocopy them if I wanted an antenatal record, wish I?d had that advice before so I could have compared this preg to others ? I think we can get copies for a £10 charge ? something to do with admin under data protection? tee weirdly all our projects at work are subject to 28 yrs retention period, maybe it?s a weird legal figure??

ineed I think its perfectly natural to feel strange that you haven?t had your little boy, I have to admit I?m hoping to be in your position and have an unexpected girl (I don?t know what I?m having but am feeling slightly ?resigned? to having another boy ? that sounds rubbish but I swing between being disappointed about never having a dd and excited about having gang of boys)
I remember vividly milk coming in being a v emotional time too!

naat shame the contractions came to nothing but it was meant to be, baby is waiting for space at the birthing centre I?m sure

Hi to everyone else ? nothing happening here, finding more jobs to do half heartily and thinking that fathers day would be a lovely time for lo to arrive so sacking off the 18th as my due date and aiming for the 21st instead?..

insywinsyspider · 07/06/2009 22:32

x-posts effie fantastic news, sounds like your little man is getting stronger every day x

mrsmcj I remember changing my 'outfit' before heading to hosp with ds1... not sure I laid it out tho

daisy5 · 08/06/2009 02:23

Just a quick check in. mrsmcjnr - I forgot to say that I can't help but wonder if my mw is a little overconcerned about the prolapsed cord, as I can see no other literature that mentions this concern (about being 'free'). She she has had a bad experience with this, or the hospital has recently or something!! Your walk along the beach sounds nice. We just paid off the rest of the holiday...so looking forward to Spain in early September. I've just repacked my hospital bag and realise I shouldn't be taking my nice Ugg slippers, but I can't find my cheapie ones. You are so right....I need my flip flops instead....shall put them in now. Thanks.

littlesarah - the pictures are gorgeous. Alexander is gorgeous, love the name too. I have struggled to get too excited about boys clothes. It doesn't help that I'm not the biggest fan of stripes.

effie - so pleased for you. What a fantastic step forward for Rupert. You must be so excited about that first cuddle.

Have been having contractions since 11:30 and they are 5-8mins apart but not many are that strong (not needing TENS yet), so I'm not sure if this is 'it'. May go back to bed and keep an eye on my watch while trying to get a little more sleep.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 08/06/2009 07:16

Just checking in for babies.... I think we're going to have some today...

Much better night with Emily. We both got a bit of sleep and she fed okay. She's gulping air when she feeds and I think this is because my let-down is quite strong and my boobs are like space-hoppers so she finds it harder to latch. Seems to be fine if we feed laying down so off to do that in a mo.

We're registering her birth today and braving a quick wander round town to check out the double buggy...

Congrats to you Effie - I bet you are so desperate to cuddle your little man. I hope he continues to improve at that rate and that you get to do that today.

I agree LittleSarah - Afterpains are a killer. Apparently they are much worse second time round as your womb is not at 'full-match-fitness' after the first time so your body has to work a bit harder to get it all back in, as it were. Latching on is painful too, though mine is easing off a bit as my nipples are toughening up.

One quick question as I didn't really get this far BFing DS, how do you know when you've emptied a boob?

Hopefully more Juner babies to come today.

Love to all xx
