OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Ninjacat · 28/05/2009 09:17

That's 6wks off!

katster37 · 28/05/2009 09:37

Your 20 week scans are all so soon!! Mine's not until 15 July, when I'll be 22 weeks.... Really wish it was sooner but my hospital don't do them until 22 weeks for some reason. Seems soooooo far away.

Ninja really love the name Sally - it works so well for a child and for a grown woman. Alfie is cute too - I have taught an Alfie who was really sweet.

BeckyBendyLegs · 28/05/2009 09:54

Do you freelancers find it hard to motivate yourself to work when there is a sofa / bed / duvet within reach? I've really struggled at times over the last few weeks. I'm also worried about how work will be after a six-month break.

Laugs DS1 sounds like your DD. He was a nightmare to potty train. He took to the potty in a week and I thought 'yeah, cracked it' but then after about a week of success he started to have an accident every day / every other day and it went on for months. I talked to the Health Visitor, I was desperate. We tried potty charts, a few smarties for each day without an accident, we tried everything. It was like he didn't care at all whether he was wet or dry (the poo accidents were a nightmare - esp the ones in public. Then one day he just stopped having accidents. The next battle was going from potty to toilet but that's another story! DS2 in comparison was a dream to potty train. So I don't think it is anything to do with the method - some children just have a hard time with change.

Laugs · 28/05/2009 10:26

Lovely names Ninja. My DH is off to Glastonbury, but I couldn't face it this year.

Becky I probably have not been very consistent with DD in terms of rewards ie I did a potty chart for a while, but kept forgetting about it; I gave stickers a few times but ran out and didn't replace. I think I secretly believe I shouldn't get into a reward culture (god, that sounds twattish!), so I've just done it half-heartedly rather than not at all. That's just like me; no strength in my convictions!

It's just got to the point where it's fairly normal to be on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor and doing a load of washing every day. Actually, I'm not really desperate - which perhaps is making it worse for her to get her head around it? Hopefully she'll learn in her own time. Luckily she does prefer the toilet to the potty so, fingers crossed, when we finally get there, that should be it.

BeckyBendyLegs · 28/05/2009 10:53

I've just been to see the midwife and heard the heart beat! Yeah! I can't help it but I get really nervous when they get that thing out to hear the heart beat just in case they can't find it. The DSs came too and they were fascinated when blood was taken. DS2 says he wants a brother and DS1 says he wants a sister!

Laugs good luck - I am sure she'll get there. I never thought DS1 would but he did. I thought I'd forever be peeling off wet jeans and pants off him and moping the floor.

Sally is a really nice name. Sally Cinnamon - isn't that an old Stone Roses song? I loved that song. Alfie is hugely cute. A friend of mine has just named her new baby Alfie.

BeckyBendyLegs · 28/05/2009 10:54

PS Would love to go to Glastonbury. Might just about make it to the Cornbury festival, which we used to live across the road from, but that's about it for me and festivals this year.

skorpion · 28/05/2009 11:21

Laugs - we're going to Fairport Cropredy Convention this year, third year running. It's not far from us, just the other side of Banbuty, and it's a lovely festival. My in-laws are going with us, as they are huge folk fans. I'm looking forward to a three generation festival next year

skorpion · 28/05/2009 11:21

That's Banbury, btw. Brain ain't what it used to be...

lemontop · 28/05/2009 11:36

lemontop I've been feeling much less pregnant recently although my bump is definitely there. I got offered a seat on the train today so it must be pretty obvious. Yay!

I was pretty nervous before I saw the midwife yesterday so hearing the heartbeat was very reassuring. 22 week scan is on 6th July which is ages away. However I think I've definitely started to feel the baby move and I know it's not just wind anymore. Double yay!

lemontop · 28/05/2009 11:53

Sorry I didn't mean to address that ^^^ to myself! The doziness is definitely still with me.

ruddynorah · 28/05/2009 12:00

ok i'm joining the thread..

i'm due 7th novemeber so i'm near 17 wks.

have had scans at 8 wks, 12 wks and 16 wks. all fine. been wary of joining thread though to to previous mmc and subsequent molar diagnosis.

i have 1 dd, she just turned 3 last week.

no bump as yet, just have a hard tummy.

so hi everyone!

pedalmonster · 28/05/2009 12:04

Oh My! You ladies are hilarious with the names. Pavlov I am just the same, can't remember who I am replying to, opened the washing machine about 4 times this morning to get the milk out....and started folding washing from the washer/dryer that had not actually been washed yet. Luckily DS's jeans were still sticky with baked-bean juice or I would have probably put everything back in the cupboard!
Have been having a good chuckle at Ptolomy or what ever it was - wasn't that Hamlets Alchemist? And Sally Cinnamon - oh no! Silly Sally Cinnamon comes to mind... you could do Cinamon Sally which would be like Pepermint Patty from Peanuts? Sally Pebbles is very very cute though, sweet. You could always call her a more "normal" name and use cinamon or pebbles for a nick name? Sorry, just my conservative opinion. Would never want to call my child something that people would say "what? How do you spell that? How do you say that?" so I like the traditional ones I'm afraid! Although I do secretly like Persephone for a girl...!
So, Dorisdaily are you going to tell us if it is a boy or a girl - or did I miss that bit?
I Love Addison, that is super cute

eeyore2 · 28/05/2009 12:09

Hi ladies,
Just wanted to update my due date, which is now 8th November. Hope you are all well. We are going on holiday on Wednesday, so excited! My morning sickness has subsided a huge amount and I am feeling so much better.
We have decided (provisionally) not to find out the sex of the baby when we go to the 220-week scan. I don't really know why, just a gut feeling I have. Has anyone else made this decision? And for what reasons?

welcome ruddynorah pls add yourself to the list! No bump yet? Are you one of those skinny mummies?

pedalmonster · 28/05/2009 12:14

eeyore OMG lets hope yr baby comes OUT before the 220 week scan - can you imagine how huge it would be if you were preg for 4 yrs!
Nope - we are definitely finding out - need to plan logistics of shared room vs own room for kids, names, clothes (can a girl wear blue?) etc etc.
Think it is a boy and also mad psychic motherinlaw said it was a boy (thanks - keep your weirdo opinions to yourself, Nan!)

ok added myself to list.

yes no bump yet. just a hard tummy from under boobs down. i'm still in normal clothes, jeans do up fine etc. boobs have grown though, from D to DD now need E!! quite surprsied as my stomach is in no way toned or anything. was worried baby was tiny but measurements at 16 week scan were fine, slightly bigger than my LMP dates IYSWIM. so who knows, it'll probably all hang out in the next couple weeks.

skorpion · 28/05/2009 12:22

pedal eeyore at the 220 scan. Gosh, we're in a good mood today!

ruddynorah welcome to the thread.

We're going to find out the sex. Not really sure why, impatient I guess...

I think I've popped out a bit, too. I'm hoping that's it, not the jaffa cakes

Feeling generally much better, full of energy. That is until 7 pm every night, when I just neatly fold myself on the sofa and try hard not to fall asleep.

Ninjacat · 28/05/2009 12:50

220wk scan. Oh my gosh I'm feeling pretty huge but maybe not quite elephantine yet.

Thank you all for the lovely comments about the names.

BeckyBL Yes Sally Cinnamon is a Stone Roses song which is why DS wants it (does that give away his age?). Think we have settled on Sally Pebbles though.

My Mum is running a festival cafe so dp and I have agreed to work for her over the summer.
We are doing 8 festivals in all with ds (12yrs) in tow. By the last one (Bestival) I will be 31wks so could be utter madness or just a very chilled summer. I think I'm most looking forward to the Mosely Folk Festival (Beth Orton and Saint Etienne), it's a dry festival so I won't be the only sober person there

Quick whinge - woke with headache and still can't shake it. grrrr

Laugs · 28/05/2009 12:53

eeyore we didn't find out the sex last time because we liked the idea of a surprise when the baby was born and someone saying "It's a ...!" I was glad we didn't, I felt I hadn't got ahead of myself by planning her name/ wardrobe/ career before she was even born. We might find out this time, which would be for the practical reason of preparing DD for the new baby only. Everything else can wait, IMHO.

skorpion · 28/05/2009 12:56

ninjacat that sounds like a perfect summer.

Laugs · 28/05/2009 13:12

er did I say I wasn't getting desperate re potty training? DD has been home for half an hour and weed on the carpet twice! Plus, one accident at nursery (which is rare these days). We are going away for the weekend tomorrow and I thought I'd already done today's load of washing. Grrr....

Ninjacat your summer sounds great. Does your mum need any more help??

Tamlin · 28/05/2009 13:25

I'm resigned to having two of them in nappies - I use cloth, so I suppose I'll just be doing a load every night rather than every two nights. DS does use the potty sometimes (and then does a little victory dance around the contents) but I just don't trust him enough to put him in underpants when we're not at home - also (she confesses) it's actually very convenient having him in nappies for long car rides...

I was really glad we found out the sex with DS - the hyperemesis was quite hard on me and I was having real trouble bonding (partly because it felt more like some Biblical affliction than a pregnancy!) Once we knew that there was a BOY in there, it did help, somehow. Plus, there was a lot of chaos immediately after his birth - I haemorrhaged badly, they had to take extremely nasty emergency measures, and there was absolutely no time for a loving shared 'Ooh, it's a BOY!' moment in all of it. I'm glad we got the surprise earlier, when we could savour it together.

raggie · 28/05/2009 15:04

LOL at BeckyBL thinking of naming DC Alan, Nick or Margaret. Not Howard though? Porquoi?

eeyore2 · 28/05/2009 16:00

at '220 week scan'! Luckily I am not actually pregnant with a baby elephant.

Rudynorah, I also have a very tiny bump. Someone at work asked me today how far along I am (16+4) and when it was normal to begin to show. I haven't put on much new weight at all but I have changed shape and have a little, hardish, sticking out tummy - but it is really only visible to those who know me well. I have bought some maternity clothes mainly because I am excited and couldn't resist and also wanted to get some more comfy and less constricting jeans, but realistically could still fit into my old jeans if I wanted to. I keep thinking about the women I saw going for their 20 week scans when I went for my 12-week one, they seemed so huuuuuge and I would have a long way to go in just 3 weeks if I was going to look like them!

scarlotti · 28/05/2009 16:11

ruddynorah welcome

I had someone be surprised that I was pregnant today at work as they didn't know. They don't see me that often but still, they must have thought I ate cakes by the bucket load as I definitely am showing!

We're finding out the sex for practical reasons too mainly, am also quite taken with seeing what it's like to know as didn't know with either of the other two.

As for potty training, we waited until we went away on a caravan holiday as I work full time so thought it would be easier. Ds was 2 and 9 months. Nursery had sat him on the potty whilst they did nappy changes but we hadn't really done anything at home. Took him shopping for big boy pants beforehand, told him when we went that he'd need to use the potty and within 3 days he was dry. I think it went so well as we waited but also as I explained what would happen and when.
He's not dry at night though (now 3and a half) but I've been told that night time dryness comes down to bladder maturity. he's just started saying he doesn't want a nappy at night so we'll see ...
