New thread for you as it was geting a bit big...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ursigurke · 27/05/2009 19:59

It's a shame that I can't really get involved in that name discussion as it wouldn't make sense to give you any German suggestions. I quite like Colin and Sarah though. The latter is actually on my list of favourites. Just not sure if I like it with my husbands surname which would be the childrens' surname too. I also like rather long names (as the surname is rather short) but my husband seems to hate all my suggestions. So I would like the sound of Addison, can not judge if it is too american.

Weston - I do feel very pregnant and have to stare at my bump in every single window but you can only notice it since about 10 days. But I am completely symptom-free (except the kicking I feel since about a week) so I think you just entered the second trimester. You will see, in a week, you won't look like having had too many pies but really pregnant (and feel like it)

roomac · 27/05/2009 20:04

Weston - certainly going through a feeling less pregnant phase! Tiredness and nausea gone; I have a bump but given that my digestion seems to be getting back to normal it's smaller than it was - I know, I shouldn't really complain . .

hobnob57 · 27/05/2009 20:41

Flip, my bump has SPROUTED today!
Had a hard day travelling so knackered too, and I think bubs is swimming around and I'm feeling it so that's making me feel a bit weird as in almost nauseous. None of those nice bubbly feelings I had 1st time around!

Anyone's skin behaving badly? Mine is so DRY. I told MW I'm itching all the time, but once she found out it wasn't the soles of my feet or palms of my hands to rule out cholestasis, she didn't seem interested enough to offer an explanation. I've also had constant dandruff since Easter and T gel doesn't seem to be touching it...

dorisdaily · 27/05/2009 20:47

hello everyone haven't been on for ages (i was the one convinced I was having twins due to early movement & and mad psychic lady predictions!) I'm not having twins but have the most exhausting week of my life following my nuchal/bloods. My DS risk came out as 1:130 and after agonising over pros and cons for 24 hours was referred to Kings for a CVS last monday - which was awful - then followed by a 4 day wait for results in which time I ended up making myself physically ill with worry. They finally called me friday afternoon halfway through my dds birthday party (14 kids with adults, bouncy castle, jelly - the lot!) and everything was fine I've never been so relieved in my life. So relieved though that I asked the woman to tell me the sex (they know 100% as they have counted chromasones) and now I regret it! I've always been a strong don't find out till the end girl!
Sorry long me, me, me thread!

Tamlin · 27/05/2009 21:03

doris, how stressful - one of my closest friends went through this a few months ago, and it was very hard on her (think her risk was 1:85 from the triple not nuchal, so she was further on than you are). I'm glad everything is okay, and that DD's birthday party wasn't ruined!

Addison is v. trendy in the US right now (my DH is American), I think it's because Madison is wildly popular over there and people are trying to think of an unusual alternative which sounds similar. All I can think of is Addison's disease which is a bit unpleasant (but then, when an American friend called her daughter 'Alexia' all I could think was that it was the clinical name for the inability to read!)

DH and I should probably start trying to sort baby names in all earnestness, I was 38 weeks before we agreed on DS's, and it was a very long and painful process. Was convinced I'd be going home from the hospital with 'Baby Boy W'.

Laugs · 27/05/2009 21:06

dorisdaily I'm so glad you had good news! Yay. I bet you wanted to jump on that bouncy castle.

I'm also not feeling that pregnant any more. I haven't been sick for around a week, though have the odd wave of nausea, oh and I'm knackered! Sleepless I work freelance and have NO work this month , but I actually think that this is making me more tired. Like you say, working, thinking, making decisions is all invigorating. I could just sleep all day.

Ooh... have to go, Apprentice...

dorisdaily · 27/05/2009 21:09

my mum wouldn't let me! I had to stop myself downing a jug of pims though!

Am I the first to know what I'm having?

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/05/2009 21:32

I'm watching the Apprentice and doing a sneeky bit of work on my lappy at the same time.

Addison might be a bit unusual over here. I'm thinking Alan, Nick or Margaret now... or have I been watching too much Apprentice?

weston · 27/05/2009 22:09

can't decide how is going to win the apprentice..think its pretty close this year, kate didn't do as well as would have thought, won't be james, and not sure he would work with the other 3...at least keeps life interesting...

can't believe will be going on maternity leave in only 4 months....time seems to have gone from really slow to flying by now...spent fortune on storage solutions in ikea and need to furnish new room for my dd, get her used to a bed and a new room and potty trained in next few months....or if i wait long enough will she just do it all herself?!

pinkfizzle · 28/05/2009 01:31

Just saying a big Hi to all. Will catch up on thread asap.

I'm an apprentice addict, it is recorded so can't wait to catch up on it.

have not been on much as have been busy at work.
...I spent most of the night writing up a business case to keep someone who is great who I work with (but who is a temp, but happy to work on a freelance basis) instead of having an e/ee dumped on me and am finding it hard to switch off. "Charming" HR want me to get rid of the fab temp and don't seem to listen to reason.

The proposed substitute e/ee has really big issues, both personal and performance ones and does not have the right skills at the moment to work with me. I don't want to be 7 months down the line with someone who also is an energy zapper and with a bad attitude, as I figure I will need all the energy I can muster by then rather than do the work of 2 people.

I am so grateful that I have supportive senior work colleagues who also don't want me to be dumped with an HR problem from elsewhere..... I am so glad that I have never given any crap to any other pregnant women I have ever worked with, anyhow enough rambling but I have got it off my chest.

After 17.5 weeks I think my MS has finally improved, but I don't want to jinx it.

Hugs to anyone still suffering with MS.

BeckyBendyLegs · 28/05/2009 06:58

Good morning! Up early because of stupid pregnancy hormones and thought would rather do a bit of work before DSs get up than lie in bed wide awake.

Good luck pinkfizzle persuading your HR department - make them see sense!

The Apprentice was funny last night but I won't say who was booted out. But it is getting quite exciting now.

pavlovthecat · 28/05/2009 07:41

morning! i am up because dh wanted a lie-in .

weston- how old is dd? my dd potty trained herself, We had a potty for ages and she mainly used it to tuck her bears in! She started taking her nappy off and then started to wee on the floor . We brought the potty in to wherever she was, and when she was going to wee on the floor/started to, we would put her on the potty, no forcing. Then she just did it herself one day. She had some accidents for the first few days as she did not always get to it on time, but she wanted to go on it. She did a poo on it very quickly, frightened the life out of her the first couple of times! In no time she was on the toilet, her choice, with a toddler seat, pooing and weeing. For a week or so we took her out with a nappy on, then short journeys we kept it off, then one day we forgot and went on a bit journey with no nappy! She has never had an accident out of the house. We never did the whole 'lets stop our life while we train her' and not leave the house, we did not make a big deal out of her having to do it, but did praise her lots and give her big hugs and claps whenever she went in either the potty or toilet. She does not have a nappy for naps now, but she is not night trained - mainly because she is a milk guts before bed and she has too much pee to hold in. I would prefer her to be out of nappies by the time baby arrives, but whatever happens will happen. HTH mammoth email helps?

Pinkfizzle what is an e/ee? Sounds stressful, I hope you get your temp to stay!

Laugs · 28/05/2009 08:22

My DD is a different story! We have been potty training since - God, I forget... February? She still has an accident nearly every day. I don't know what we could be doing wrong (I don't think we are doing anything wrong! ), like pavlov says we've had a very laidback attitude to the potty: praised successes, just said 'nevermind' to accidents. She's actually really good out of the house, but at home doesn't seem that bothered where she wees! She quite often has naps without a nappy on (not particularly intentional, but she only naps when out in the pushchair) and has never had an accident. DH even forgot to put her in a nappy for bed the other night and she only weed when she woke up in the morning. It seems like when she is playing, though, she gets so absorbed in what she is doing she just forgets about everything else. She's 2 and 7 months, by the way.

pavlovthecat · 28/05/2009 08:29

Laugs - I think thats it, they get distracted, when Dd did wee in the house, it was either she did not get to potty in time, or she was too busy it was too late and she just went where she went! We were also very nevermind about it. Never told her off for weeing on the floor, but always praised to the hilt for getting it right. Its a really individual thing potty training, there is no right or wrong way, or 'right' time either.

roomac · 28/05/2009 08:34

Morning all. With my 2 ds's we left potty training until quite late - 2yrs 10 months - with ds1 this was because of arrival of ds2 and then did same with ds2 as worked so well. Both toilet trained in one week, nights too, with no accidents. Started off sitting them on toilet after every nappy change then in the end they waited to be sat on toilet before they went.

Laugs · 28/05/2009 08:47

Can I add potty training in a week to the list of contraband topics?? {grin]

Tabbykat · 28/05/2009 08:48

Morning all - hope everyone feeling ok.

We are training DD too - she's the same age as yours Laugs. Has managed a record 11 days with no accidents - so pleased! She came in really upset the other day and said she'd done a wet, but when I checked her knickers they had a tiny leak spot on and she'd held the rest of it back, so don't count that as an accident..... not quite brave enough to try leaving pull-ups off at night yet tho as she is still having a tiny bit of milk at night. Think the key is not to make a big thing out of it so it doesn't become an issue.

HOpe everyone is feeling better - time seems to be finally going a bit faster and I'll be 17 weeks this saturday. Seeing the midwife tmrw and hoping DD will be able to hear the heartbeat - she's so excited about the thought of being a big sister!

Is anyone else really feeling it move now? This one is definitely more wriggly than the last one - sure it must be a boy!

katster37 · 28/05/2009 08:54

Morning all,

Weston I also feel decidedly less pregnant. So much so, that I convinced myself there was something wrong! I am still being sick though, but my bump is getting smaller!! Which I am sure must be due to the fact that, ahem, I am no longer constipated, which is a huge relief, but I would like a bump!!

Dorisdaily how awful that you had to go through that. I bet you are so relieved now though. I had to have an extra scan at 13+3 as the baby's heart rate was a bit fast at the nuchal scan (all completely normal now, and turns out it wasn't v high in the first place...) but the sonographer told me the sex at that scan. I hadn't thought they could tell that early and really didn't want to know, actually, but when I said 'you can't tell this early!' he mistook it for 'tell me what it is' and blurted it out. Also felt really disappointed that I knew, as we had both wanted it to be a surprise on the day of the birth...

Laugs · 28/05/2009 08:55

All you London ladies, have you ever been to a bar/ club called Floridita's? If so, how dressy is it? I am going there on Saturday for a hen night and have nothing to wear! I've only bought maternity jeans and I get the feeling it's not really a jeans kind of place.

I might s-q-u-e-e-z-e into a stretchy LBD which will cling in all the wrong places!

Oh, at DD's nursery they told me they'd been speculating whether I was pregnant for quite a few weeks. I'm only 14 weeks pregnant. I must be huge

pavlovthecat · 28/05/2009 09:00

My brain has fried. I keep forgetting things. instantly. 3 times I have gone to respond to a point on this thread, and as soon as I have scrolled up, I have forgotten who posted and what I was responding too . I am finding it hard to actually string several thoughts together into one, they keep breaking up, but I have read that this seriously poor memory and concentration is a common symptom of hyperemesis, its really bad. I keep walking into rooms and forgetting what I am doing there.

Even as I type this, I was going to respond to a point, and I now have to scroll back down to check it again. If I had not written the above, I would have forgetten it instantly as I had been meaning to write it for days !

tabby i think I am having a boy, on the basis that this baby has been a right royal pain the ass, in only a way males can be

katster37 · 28/05/2009 09:00

Laugs do you mean the salsa place on Wardour St? I am sure I have been there wearing jeans. I have been, and I always wear jeans, so I can't imagine I wasn't wearing jeans!! I think from what I remember it's just a nice bar, not too posh or anything. But don't hold me to that...

Laugs · 28/05/2009 09:02

Apart from my bump, I really don't feel that pregnant now. Have to keep on reminding myself. I'm glad of it though! When we start feeling regular kicking that will be a real reassurance. It's a bit annoying, as now I actually quite fancy drinking and feel like I'm missing out. I think I will allow myself a glass of wine on saturday night.

DH and I are still trying to decide whether to find out the sex or not. I'm leaning towards 'not' because we didn't with DD and it was nice having a surprise, but then it would also be good to be able to prepare her for what's coming

Laugs · 28/05/2009 09:04

Yes, it's a salsa bar, so that must be the one. Oh good, jeans it is then!

skorpion · 28/05/2009 09:04

pavlov - pmsl at Ptolemy. We're thinking Bernard. If it's a girl.

browntrout - I've found a great cordial - morello cherry from Blossom Cottage. You can get it supermarkets. It's really good, as I cannot drink water on its own anymore.

Went on a long bicycle ride last Saturday. I think I may have overdone it. I'm used to long cycling, as we did a lot of touring, but I suppose my body has other stuff to direct energy to now. I would definitely like to continue cycling, well at least as long as my belly doesn't get in the way, but will take it easier.

I have also noticed my nipples itching. Is this normal?

Ninjacat · 28/05/2009 09:16

Oh gosh this thread moves like wild fire, it's so hard to keep up.

Doris What stress! Just what you don't need.

Laugs I'm freelance also. Had 6wks at the start of pg and now finding it very hard to catch up financially. I find it difficult to chase work as well because you don't know what's around the next corner and networking is just too exhausting.

Talking of exhausting omg I never thought I could get so tired so easily. Luckily I've been able to employ dp to work with me this week (amazing teacher, very big build, naughty boys turn to pussy cats before him) so workshops are going better than expected but I have to go to bed for a couple of hours when I get home.

ursigurke I'd like to hear some German names. I have a few German friends and I like all their names (Birgit, Sabine, Romy and Noah)

Some how we have agreed to names already but I expect it will change when we see the baby.
For a boy Alfie Zuki Fox (Alfred was my father and grandfathers name - dp will only agree to Alfie)
For a girl Sally Pebbles or Sally Cinnamon

I'm off to my first Antinatal Class at the
hospital today. Ohhh it's all very real now, just wish I could get my head around it. Have 20wk scan on 30th June - day after we get back from Glastonbury so think I will be very tired but just trying to put it to the back of my head.
