beckybl - your boy sounds delicious, what a sweetie. Have a lovely time at the sea.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I so hope for this to be the sign of a fab summer to come.

sleepless - hope your day gets better.

grace09 · 29/05/2009 10:00

Morning ladies! Echo how fast this thread moves - so hard to keep up if you've not been on for a few days!

I was so utterly reassured to hear that many of you don't feel pregnant anymore. My nausea and tiredness literally disappeared overnight last week (14 weeks today) but i was so worried something was badly wrong. So sorry tho for those still suffering, fingers crossed it will pass soon.

Loving all the name ideas - helips charlie is one of our boys names too. We like evie and ella for a girl. Although am positive we are having a boy. Got appointment through for dating scan - i will be 17 weeks so will definitely be able to see the sex. They won't tell you here but surely we'll be able to see for ourselves, do you think?

claire what hospital in glasgow are you?

Enjoy the sunshine folks!

Koumak · 29/05/2009 10:55

ursigurke we too are going for one name only as we did for ds (can tell we are foreigners and the name HAS to be pronounced in 3 languages?.) my dh is really against more than 1 name and found it tricky to agree on names first time round. This time he briefly looked at the name list I gave him and soon as he found one he liked he stopped reading and decided that?s the one thanks and that was it! So yes we have a name already ? Oliver for a boy and Olivia for a girl. Easy. Done. Apparently. . Ds was going to be Dominika if a girl so you can guest what he is called! Before I was pregnant with ds I always thought I was going to name my son Sebastian BUT couldn?t remember when I was pregnant!

helips I love Matilda!!! But dh hates it. And 2 doesn?t sound too early. I potty trained ds when he was 2. I sat him on the potty before bath every night as he used to wee once in the water. Then I just let him run without his bottoms around the house at first and just left the bathroom door open so he could sit on the potty when wanted to. Gave him smarties as reward ? then I ran out ? so did sticker chart ? after long line he could chose a small present ? like 60p car from Tesco etc. by that point he was dry during the day ? although dh insisted on putting nappy on on motorways? After six months got rid of the night nappy as he used to wake up with dry nappy. He did have few accidents but nothing a waterproof sheet and washing machine couldn?t take care off. Might sound easy but he really hated to do poo on the potty at first. He always panicked. But when I noticed him ?doing poo dance? I MADE him sit there and eventually he gave in?

Grace 09 ella was on top of my list couple years ago then forgot about it and when my sister was having a girl I suggested Emma so now cant really use it as v similar.

My legs are starting to swell. They look so fat and are uncomfortable. Otherwise symptom disappearing bit by bit. After being sure that I can feel the baby moving ? its not there anymore!

claired21 · 29/05/2009 11:08

grace - The Queen Mother's... which is closing at the end of the year/beginning of next year! I'm a bit concerned about not having the 20 week anomaly scan so might try to push for it at my next mw appointment on 10th June. Not sure I'll get anywhere but I have been told that the NHS are obliged to provide 20 week scans and you just have to be forceful about it.

My MW said at the first appointment that our health board don't have enough trained sonographers to do anything more than dating scans for 12000 births a year but this should change from about September this year.

sleeplessinthecity · 29/05/2009 11:16

DH always thinks about nicknames and shorterned versions when he picks his.. I LOVE Sebastian...hmmmmmmm and it would be very European too...def going on my list if the alien is a boy. Girls names are harder..DH and I love DD's name but he calls her Junebug anyway, no relation to her name--wierdo..

Glad to hear your symptoms are disappearing koumak...Rem to keep your legs elevated.
I think I'll have this MS for the whole term!

Koumak · 29/05/2009 11:33

sleepless what is she called? if we have same taste in names you might have alternative to Olivia...
was she born or concieved in june then?

pedalmonster · 29/05/2009 12:21

oooh you ladies are making all seem so real!
Went to a Nickelback concert last night (booked MONTHS ago) as it is DH's favorite group. Oh my - my ears are still ringing and poor bump must have been bouncing around in all the vibrations, poor little mite! hopefully the little ears don't work properly yet....! I would not consider myself a "rock chick" at the best of times - but the show was pretty good and fortunatly we are well past the point of standing at the bottom partying furiously. we had seats - nice and close to the loos... but BOY did I look pregnant last night - bump was out in force! (probably trying to get away from the noise!) Someone even stood up for me on the tube!

sleepless I love Junebug.

I like to watch the credits at the end of a TV show and quiz DH "ooh - what about Davina? OOhhh what about Tarquin?" some of the names are hilarious, but some are getting added to the list.

forgottonyrnamealready (btw great idea!!) I love Emma, Evie, and Eden. My friends little girl is Evie but pronounced Evvie (they are greek) and I love it!
For boys I like Ross but it will always be associated with "friends" now - and I also like Rhett but DH says it is too complicated. Lee is also nice - nice and non-committal.

EasyEggs · 29/05/2009 12:34

Blimey, I'm not around for a few days and you chat so much there'sa new thread lol!!

Well I have had a quick looky at posts but don't seem to be able to retain any info so I have no idea who has been doing what, so apologies for seeming to ignore any news

BT still haven't got their heads out their bums, won't beback online until at least next week and I am not a happy bunny. Currently at sis house as dp doing more painting and with any luck some unpacking too

Got mostthings dome now. All bedrooms are carpeted and paited and sorted out so at least I can hide upstairs lol!

Dd has been a total nightmare though. Poor little mite has ear infection in BOTH ears so has been a whiny clinging limpet since Saturday. Great timing and not very helpful in the getting the house sorted stakes. And she has been awake almost all night everynight and I am totally exhausted. I hope she is better soon.

Sounds awful too but I can't wait for the ds's to go back to school next week! They are totally manic and hyped up about moving that they have been such hard work.Or maybe that's just me not having had any sleep

Anyway I best go, lunch to make and kids to look after. Take care ladies and hopefully I'll be back soon. I miss mot being able to see how you're all doing.

xxx

Trikken · 29/05/2009 12:38

My son's second name is sebastian. Am thinking of Theo for a boy but already have a Toby, so the two T's might get confusing. plus going off Theo cos dh said it would have to be Theodore and I dont like that so much. Anyone think of any other boys names that would go? Have already picked our girl's name out.

pedalmonster · 29/05/2009 13:12

Trikken if you are looking for names with T I like Troy or Trent.
I also like Matthew, Benedict... what about Leo?
My friends daughter is Bendedicta (we call her Binka) she is 14 now. God I am old.

Tamlin · 29/05/2009 13:16

Great minds... Sebastian's our top boy name pick at the moment, but I'm still trying to talk DH into Matilda - I like the thought of having a Mattie, and the Hilaire Belloc poem always makes me laugh. We settled on Polly for a girl with DS, but now we think it's too close to DS's name - plus, another mum from my toddler group wants Polly for HER unborn child and she's due before me!

helips · 29/05/2009 13:25

Ooh trikken i love the name Theodore! Unfortunately we can't use that name as a friend has called her little boy that and I don't want to copy!

grace09 my niece is called Evie, lovely name and also like Ella too. Loving all this talk of names, it's so exciting, and agree that boys names are definately trickier than girls.

Thanks for the potty training tips koumak I was thinking about sitting ds on the potty everytime I change his nappy to see if he does anything, like the idea of sitting him on it at bathtime as he does normally wee in the bath!

pedalmonster · 29/05/2009 15:51

just checking in to say have a great weekend, ladies! I'm off on holiday next week so will try to find you when i return - goodness only knows how many threads will have been created by then!

Best of luck with all the scans going on.

mmmm like the idea of potty training on holiday - will give it a go!

scarlotti · 29/05/2009 16:15

Just a quick hello and to wish everyone a nice weekend.

pedal I chose holiday as we were in a static caravan so lino on all the floor and easy clean for messes, plus time for washing!
Helips Ds' nursery sits them all on the potty when they nappy change and it seems to be a great way to start things off. Gets them into the idea of what to do.
Sticker charts are great for rewarding any successes and we also had a potty book which helped reinforce the idea of the point of it all.

Good luck with it all!

ursigurke · 29/05/2009 17:36

Koumak - We too think it would be a big plus if we could find a name which we can pronounce in several languages (even if we will go back to Austria in a couple of years). Olivia is on my list of "incredibly beautiful names but not with that surname". My husband thinks it is stupid to consider the surname as nobody ever uses them... his nickname (used by all his friends from school and university) is made from his surname btw.
I really like Emma too, it is one of the names we both find nice. Ella could be a nice alternative.
Having read about Theo and Leo I remember that there were a few nice short versions of longer names for boys in my book (I forgot the other examples) but I didn't like the long names and I'm not sure if I would be happy just with the short one. But I do like both a lot, especially Theo.
I have to say, all of you seem to have great name taste!

beepbeep · 29/05/2009 17:49

Koumak & Ursigurke - a friend needed a name to suit different languages as she is hungarian, they chose Samuel and now he's just 'Sammy'

I am getting LOADS of headaches, some which have turned into migraines and feeling really dizzy alot (I fainted in Sainsburys cafe yesterday - very embarrassing!), think may be low blood pressure and the heat but may book doc appt next week as not seeing MW for another 2 weeks.

We have Matilda on our girls list, also Eliza, Tabitha, Amelie and Emmeline amongst others (both our 2 have quite old fashioned biblical names, not on purpose, just names we liked), boys names are more of an issue, I like Seth, Sydney and . . .can't think of any more. DH like Jonas but think then the DCs names would all be VERY biblical! I also wouldn't personally use a shortened version of a name as the real name if you get what i mean, my thoughts are that if it has the full name they can use what they like. Matilda would prob become Tilly or Hilda, Amelie & Emmeline would be Millie. I've thought of a few names i liked and then disregarded them cause of the longer version!

Off to finish cooking a chicken and leek pie x

Trikken · 29/05/2009 18:06

ooh sounds nice beepbeep!

weston · 29/05/2009 18:22

boys names are soo much easier to pick than girls!! we even gave our daugher a boys name...charlie...

if having a boy def going with Leo..of course bound to be a girl..george mabe

Tamlin · 29/05/2009 18:29

Ursigurke, I have a friend married to a German bloke, and their children are Konrad, Veronika (Nika) and Kiefer. All three are easy for English speakers as well as German (I really like Kiefer, actually!)

helips · 29/05/2009 19:13

beep beep sorry to hear about the headaches, I suffered quite badly with them when pregnant with ds, really horrible, hope you feel better soon.

Tried ds on the potty once he had woken from his nap and he cried! When he has sat on it before he has had a nappy on and he doesn't seem to like to be naked on it. His willy seemed all squashed and I'm wondering if the potty is too small or uncomfortable. Shall I just leave it a while or try again, don't want him to develop a potty phobia!

Spent this afternoon at the beach with ds and friends eating icecream and building sandcastles, had such a lovely time. Also, ordered 2 isabelle oliver dresses so all in all a great afternoon!

Got a massive craving for burgers at the mo so we are going to have a BBQ tonight, can't wait, my mouth is watering at the thought of a juicy burger or two, yum yum

Have a nice evening/weekend everyone!

hobnob57 · 29/05/2009 21:31

Sorry not enough time to catch up on everyone today, but hope you enjoyed the sunshine!

It was my day off today, so we had a fab day involving park, friends, new fangled paddling pool and Granny so all in all a perfect day

Enjoy the weekend - looks like we'll be shivering in an easterly wind whilst you lot bake

Ninjacat · 29/05/2009 21:32

I have had a headache for 3 days now. Feel very low with it but it's good to know I'm not alone

pavlovthecat · 29/05/2009 22:11

i have had a horrendous unbreakable headache too. wonder if its the weather. It is very humid here, my feet feel hot and itchy too - anyone else have that? (I actually had swollen feet last weekend until my lovely friend got a bowl of ice cold water for me, love!)

scarlotti · 30/05/2009 08:22

What a great start to the morning - ds slept in until 7:40! It's been a 6am start some mornings this week. Couldn't have come at a better time as dh is away this weekend so am up both mornings.

Lovely sunny day here so looking forward to getting out and about.
hobnob dh has headed back homeward so will be sharing the easterly wind - I thought it was supposed to be good with you too?

Hope everyone has a lovely day

pavlovthecat · 30/05/2009 19:19

Scarlotti - Must be in the air, DD slept til 7:45am too. Mind you she did not go to bed til 9pm, although that does not usually change her morning start time .

DD is throwing a strop, has been throwing lots of them today. She is not happy that I won't let her watch peppa pig, even though she always does. She threw an epic tantrum today when we went out for bbq by a lovely stream on the moors. She was playing in the stream lots, and we asked her to get out, as she had been in the sun too long, she needed some shade. She bit me, then she spat at me, and yelled at me, shouted at me so angrily. I made her sit there til she apologised. She has been upset ever since and right now she is screaming for her dad who is out.

I have had enough of her today. Its the first time she has ever actually ruined a day out. I hate being so upset with her, but I really want her to go to bed and I know this is going to be traumatic

Sorry for the rant, had not even meant to do that
